There are plenty of sales going on right now for PC hardware across across the internet, but we're here to highlight a few that caught our eye, from super-fast graphics cards to high-end monitors.
Cost-effective solid-state drives and cheap monitors are also on sale, but those looking for a 4K television are in luck.
Since there are so many deals at the moment, feel free to share what you've found in the comments!
The GTX 1080 is still a beast of a graphics cards and the Gigabyte version can be swooped up for $50 off its list price. It's overclocked right out of the box (1771MHz in OC mode, 1797MHz in OC mode) and features a triple fan cooling design.
Dell monitors may not be the cheapest but they're known for their sleek design and high quality panels. This particular model--the S2716DGR--packs in a high native resolution of 1440p while offering a 144Hz refresh rate. GSync is the cherry on top that makes this monitor an attractive option for $130 off its original price.
If you've been eyeing a new CPU but are been on the fence, this deal might be worth jumping on. AMD's Ryzen 5 1500X is a four-core and eight-thread CPU clocked at 3.5GHz with plenty of room for overclocking given the right cooling solution. The offer knocks off $20, which brings it down to the price of the Ryzen 5 1400.
Lenovo's LI2264D could be a great solution if you're in need of a decent and cheap monitor, since it's $70 lower than the list price. It's not the biggest display at 21.5 inches with a 1080p resolution, but it's equipped with an IPS panel, meaning you'll get high quality color reproduction.
The K70 Rapidfire from Corsair comes equipped with Cherry MX Speed mechanical switches; they have an actuation point of 1.2mm and travel distance of 3.4mm, which makes them one of the fastest switches. The K70 also comes with full RGB backlighting, a brushed aluminum base, and a detachable palm rest.
There are many extended mouse pads out on the market, but few are as cheap as Corsair's offering at the moment. This mat covers plenty of desk space and gives your keyboard and mouse a sleek cloth surface to rest on.
These ADATA solid-state drives seem to be on sale quite often, but that doesn't mean they're still not worth looking into. With the promo code, you can snag the 256GB version for $90. It's a SATA III drive that offers sequential read and write speeds of up to 560MB/s and 520MB/s, respectively. The 512GB version is also on sale for $142.19 if you use the same promo code.
This 4K television from LG is going for $250 off the list price, but this particular sale is $50 cheaper than what most other retailers are currently offering. It's one of the more cost-effective ultra-high-definition solutions, especially for its size at 55 inches.
Square Enix's Final Fantasy VII Remake is moving forward, but under a new development setup of sorts. Gematsu reports that the publisher said recently during a livestream event that the project is now being made internally at Square Enix instead of with the support of external help.
Additionally, Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII main programmer Haoki Hamguchi is now leading development on Final Fantasy VII Remake for Square Enix.
"I've taken charge on the development side for Final Fantasy VII Remake," Hamaguchi said during a livestream for Mobius Final Fantasy, for which he is the project lead. "As for the whole story, (it's a sensitive topic, but) until now, development was moving forward with external cooperation, but the company has decided to shift to an internal setup, including mass production and quality, because we want to control everything, including quality, on a stable schedule. (I won't be leaving Mobius Final Fantasy.)"
Final Fantasy VII Remake is coming to PlayStation 4, though a release date has not been announced. Keep checking back with GameSpot for the latest.
It looks like the first of June 2017's PlayStation Plus games have been revealed.
The official PlayStation Turkey Twitter channel tweeted a picture of the PlayStation 4 games Killing Floor 2 and Life Is Strange that references PlayStation Plus. The tweet was removed, but not before NeoGAF was able to capture an image of it.
So it looks like Killing Floor and Life Is Strange could be June's free PS Plus games on PS4. There should also be freebies for PS3 and PS Vita, though these were not referenced in the PlayStation Turkey tweet. Given that it's the end of the month, we would expect Sony to make an official announcement very soon, surely this week.
Since it's the end of the month, don't forget that now is your last chance to grab May's PS Plus freebies before they return to their normal prices. You can see a rundown of all the titles here.
We will report back with all of June's PS Plus free games when they are announced.
Shenmue III developer Ys Net today posted its latest monthly report, confirming that the game won't be at E3 2017 next month and revealing a new character for the much-anticipated title.
"While our schedule has yet to be finalized, we will be devoting June to game development and as a result, will unfortunately not be participating in any game shows," the studio explained. "On the other hand, we look forward to bringing you our monthly updates and hope you do too!"
E3 2017 runs June 13-16 in Los Angeles, though things actually begin on June 10 with the start of EA's events and then continue on Sunday, June 11, with briefings from Microsoft and Bethesda.
The new Shenmue III character is a buff-looking with long hair and suspenders. "Where will this person show up, I wonder?" Ys Net asks in this new Kickstarter video.
Microsoft's new console, Project Scorpio, will launch in China later this year.
During a local event recently, Microsoft confirmed that the super-powerful system will be released in the country before the year is out. The system is also coming to the US and other markets this year.
That Scorpio will launch in China this year is notable because the Xbox One came to China in 2014, some time after the system launched in the US and other regions in 2013. At the time of its release, the Xbox One was the first next-gen console to launch in China.
During the China announcement event this year, Microsoft called Scorpio the "most powerful game console ever," one that is 40 percent more powerful than any other console available today.
Scorpio--or whatever name Microsoft ends up giving it--will play all Xbox One games. These will "just perform better," Microsoft said.
Microsoft also confirmed that the Forza Racing Championship event will come to Shanghai's ChinaJoy event this summer.
With E3 coming up soon, we expect Microsoft will announce many more details about Scorpio soon. Keep checking back with GameSpot for the latest.
Blizzard is aware of the feedback surrounding Overwatch's loot boxes, for the Anniversary event and in general, game director Jeff Kaplan said in a forum post recently. He did not mention any particular issues specifically, but he said Blizzard is looking into what can be done to respond to the feedback.
"I just wanted to acknowledge that we've been following the threads about the loot box rewards as they pertain to the anniversary events, other events and loot boxes in general," Kaplan said. "The feedback and suggestions have been helpful to us. We had a really great discussion yesterday about the feedback we've been hearing this week. While I don't have any immediate action items to report, I thought it was important for you to know that we are listening."
Kaplan said he welcomes the community to continue to talk about loot boxes, as well as other rewards and Overwatch cosmetic items.
Some have been critical of Overwatch's existence as a premium game that also has microtransactions, in particular the loot box system that gives you random skins and sprays, among other things. Players can purchase loot boxes with real money, though the rewards are still random.
For more on Overwatch, check out GameSpot's breakdown video above that covers the shooter's first year. The game's Anniversary event is going on now, featuring three new Arena maps and new skins, among other things, while a Game of the Year edition is available now.
How do you feel about Overwatch's loot boxes? Let us know in the comments below!
Writing on Twitter, Xbox boss Phil Spencer said it's "just the start" for the Xbox One program, but "early signups and feedback have been really strong..."
@LordRutger@majornelson I'm glad you like it. Just the start but the early signups and feedback have been really strong, thanks for that.
Xbox Game Pass arrived last week for Xbox Live Gold members with a 14-day free trial. The official launch for everyone is slated for June 1, so there is not much longer to wait.
For $10/month, subscribers can play more than 100 Xbox One and Xbox 360 games (via backwards compatibility) on Xbox One as much as they want for as long as the title is available. The catalog will be refreshed on a monthly basis as a small number games are added and others removed.
The new Prey was released at the start of May, and now one retailer has it for $20 off.
Target in the US is offering the game this week for only $40 on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. The PC edition does not appear to be discounted. The sale period runs May 28-June 3.
"It opens with a poignant, thought-provoking premise, but fails to follow through until the end, when it claims a revelation it doesn't quite earn," reviewer Tamoor Hussain said. "Its gameplay falters out of the gate, eventually maturing into something worthwhile, if a bit familiar. As an homage to System Shock it's competent and at times even enjoyable. However, Prey fails to distinguish itself, and next to immersive sim contemporaries such as Dishonored, it feels stagnant."
As promised, Warner Bros. today released a new Injustice 2 trailer that shows off the fighting game's upcoming DLC character, Red Hood.
It's a pretty fantastic trailer, showing off the gun-toting Red Hood's skills and abilities, his general dexterity, and what looks like his super. Take a look at the video below.
"NetherRealm has delivered a fighting game that can be enjoyed by new players and pros alike in ways that go beyond pure competition," review Peter Brown said. "It's a bar that every fighting game should meet, but one that has up until now seemed out of reach."
Eagle will join the roster as the Microsoft-published title's 29th character in June. The character will arrive sometime after E3, community manager Rukari Austin said on Twitter.
Via the Killer Instinct Wiki, Eagle is the older brother of another playable character, Thunder, in the comics.
The announcement today came during the 2017 Combo Breaker tournament. He joins the roster as part of Killer Instinct's Season Three
Killer Instinct is a free game, but you can get all the Seasons 1-3 DLC characters, including Arbiter from Halo and Rash from Battletoads, together in the game's $40 Definitive Edition.
The initial box-office numbers for Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales--the new entry in the series since 2011--have come in, and they may not be what Disney would have wanted.
As reported by Entertainment Weekly, the film made $62.2 million for the Friday-Sunday period, with estimates for Monday, which is Memorial Day, boosting the number to $76.6 million. Dead Men is the No. 1 movie of the weekend, but it's the second-worst domestic opening for a Pirates movie since the original, Curse of the Black Pearl ($46 million), back in 2003.
A lower box office number for Dead Men is no surprise, as the series has been falling off in terms of opening-weekend revenue for a while now. 2006's Dead Man's Chest opened with $135.6 million, with 2007's At World's End debuting at $114.7 million. 2011's On Stranger Tides made $90 million in the US for its first weekend.
Rounding out the top five movies at the US box office this weekend were Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, Baywatch, Alien: Covenant, and Everything, Everything. Some other notable takeaways include Beauty and the Beast zooming past $500 million in the US, pushing Disney's total domestic box office
Elsewhere in the top 10, Fate of the Furious became the sixth movie to cross the $1 billion mark internationally, while the Emma Watson-starring live-action version of Beauty and the Beast has now earned more than $500 million in the domestic market. This brings Disney's 2017 domestic earnings past $1 billion, which is pretty incredible considering it's only May.
Here is a rundown of the May 26-28 US box office numbers, with the Memorial Day weekend numbers (May 26-29) in parenthesis:
Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales – $62.2 million ($76.6 million)
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 – $19.9 million ($24.2 million)
Baywatch – $18.1 million ($22 million)
Alien: Covenant – $10.5 million ($13.2 million)
Everything, Everything – $6.2 million ($7.8 million)
Diary of a Wimpy Kid: The Long Haul – $4.4 million ($5.7 million)
Snatched – $3.9 million ($4.9 million)
King Arthur: Legend of the Sword – $3.2 million ($4.0 million)
What's next for Atari's mobile game RollerCoaster Tycoon Touch? Today, the publisher laid out what's coming to the game in the title's 11th update, which is out now--and it does quite a lot.
Some of the new features available in Update 11 include the ability to visit your friend's parks and take screenshots of your park and then share on social media with a built-in screenshot tool called Photo Booth. You can use the camera "freely," able to take shots from "any position and under any angle." There are filters and stickers as well that you can use to customization your shots.
Visiting friend's parks happens with RollerCoaster Tycoon Touch detecting which of your Facebook friends have the game. Once you connect with a friend, you can see how much progress they've made and compare it your own, while you can also gift friends cards, which in turn boosts your progression.
Today's update also adds more peeps to parks. The previous cap was below 500, which was in place to help keep the game's engine running as best as possible. But now, Atari has implemented a new engine that makes the game run "much faster," so parks can now have "thousands" of peeps while maintaining good performance.
Finally, RollerCoaster Tycoon Touch's Update 11 should improve overall simulation. According to Atari, "All the simulation mechanisms are now working with a lot more accuracy, and players will enjoy experimenting with park layout and see very clearly the effects of all their changes."
RollerCoaster Tycoon Touch is the latest evolution of the classic park sim series. Launched earlier this year, the mobile game has been a big hit, hitting No. 1 in the free-to-play App Store charts (for a period of time) and subsequently picking up more than 6.2 million downloads and hitting 500,000 daily active users.
