Get Call Of Duty: Black Ops 4 Free With Purchase Of Select Items At Newegg

By Chris Reed on Oct 13, 2018 12:28 am

As you've probably heard, the hot new game right now is Call of Duty: Black Ops 4. It's now available and comes with a multiplayer mode, three sprawling Zombies maps and, for the first time, a battle royale mode that bears similarities to PUBG and Fortnite. If you're considering buying Black Ops 4 on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, or PC, you might want to take a look at this deal from Newegg. If you buy select items, you'll get your copy of Black Ops 4 for free.

Like most offers that promise to give you a $60 product for free, you'll have to take it with a grain of salt. Not all of the items are being sold exactly at the manufacturer's suggested retail price. Some of the prices have been ratcheted up--but not as much as you might think. You'll still save a nice chunk of change compared to buying them separately.

You can find the full list of select items here. They mostly include hardware accessories, like three of the new color designs for DualShock 4 PS4 controllers. You'll get a free copy of Black Ops 4 for PS4 with purchase of the Sunset Orange or Berry Blue models for $90 each, or the Blue Camouflage design for $100.

Also included in the promotion are a wide selection of headsets. The cheapest eligible headset is the Playtronics Rig Flex LX headset for Xbox One that comes in black or white for $70; it comes with an Xbox One version of the game. Moving up the headset price scale, the new Turtle Beach Elite Pro 2 headsets for Xbox One and PS4 come with the corresponding version of the game. They haven't been marked up; they still sell at their MSRP of $250. PC gamers can get their free game with the purchase of World of Warcraft: Battle for Azeroth Collector's Edition for $140.

You can find the full set of eligible items here. It's not always obvious which version of the game comes with each item, so make sure the right one is in your cart before checking out. As for the game itself, take a look at GameSpot's Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 early review impressions to see if this year's installment lives up to the hype.

Destiny 2 Wanted: Gravetide Summoner Bounty Returns For Week 6

By Chris Pereira on Oct 13, 2018 12:28 am

One of the many things that is shuffled as part of Destiny 2's weekly reset on Tuesdays is the slate of bounties offered by Spider in the Tangled Shore. One of these in particular is quite desirable, as it offers Powerful gear as a reward. Unfortunately, the weekly reset hasn't done the greatest job of keeping this fresh as of late, as this bounty is once again Wanted: Gravetide Summoner. Here's what to know before diving in.

This marks the third week in a row that a bounty by this name has been available from Spider. Last week's instance of this, despite being the same target as the week before, was actually different. It still tasked you with completing an Adventure on Titan, but the Lost Sector that you explored for the boss was different. This week, however, we're back to the same Adventure and Lost Sector as two weeks ago.

To start things off, you'll need to take five Ghost Fragments to Spider to buy the bounty. This unlocks an Adventure on Titan, specifically on The Rig. Start it and make your way through the Lost Sector until you get near the end. Here, you'll find your target, Gravetide Summoner, but it will be immune to damage. In order to kill it, you'll have to first deal with the ogre.

This has a lot of health, but you can speed things up by killing special thrall enemies with yellow health bars that periodically attack you. Taking these out grants you a temporary buff that causes you to deal more damage to the ogre. With the ogre down, finish off Gravetide Summoner to complete the bounty, which gets you some Powerful gear.

While this activity may not be fresh, what is new is the latest Ascendant Challenge. This presents you with a new Ascendant Realm area to tangle with; it amounts to some careful platforming and a boss you have to kill, but the associated bounty from Petra offers another piece of Powerful gear.

Destiny 2: Forsaken Will No Longer Require Buying Old DLCs

By Jordan Ramée on Oct 13, 2018 12:24 am

Bungie has announced that, starting October 16, the Destiny 2 Expansion Pass will be included in the Forsaken expansion for free. The developer hopes this convinces more players to take the plunge and try Forsaken, as you need to complete Destiny 2's first two expansions--Curse of Osiris and Warmind--first.

Currently, the only way to get everything you need to play Destiny 2's newest expansion is by buying the Forsaken: Complete Collection, which includes Destiny 2, Curse of Osiris, Warmind, and Forsaken for $100. With the new deal, you'll get all of that for $60.

Acknowledging that players who have already bought Forsaken have already paid for Curse of Osiris and Warmind as well, Bungie outlined a series of rewards for anyone who's already bought Forsaken prior to October 16. If you've already purchased Forsaken--or buy it before October 16--you'll be awarded a unique Emblem and Shader, as well as the Knife Trick and Coin Flip emotes, and several consumables.

No Caption Provided

This bundle of special rewards will go out to all "Forsaken Veterans" in December. The Emblem and Shader will remain exclusive to players who buy Forsaken prior to October 16, but the two emotes will be made available on Eververse at "sometime in the future." The consumables can be found in-game right now.

In our Forsaken review, GameSpot senior reviews editor Kallie Plagge gave the expansion an 8/10, writing, "There is a lot to do in Forsaken, so much so that it can be difficult to see it all. That also means that, for the average player, this expansion has a much longer tail than previous iterations of Destiny 2. The variety and flexibility of activities established in the base game still work to make grinding a good time, and Gambit adds a consistently entertaining mode to the roster. The endgame, while difficult to reach, is also where the most satisfaction can be found."

Destiny 2 is available for Xbox One, PS4, and PC.

Netflix's Haunting Of Hill House Is Worth Seeing Through To The End

By Michael Rougeau on Oct 13, 2018 12:19 am

Horror movies often save their biggest scares for the latter half, building up tension before exploding into all out terror. Extrapolate that over 10 hour-long episodes, and you have Netflix's newest horror show, The Haunting of Hill House. It makes for some fantastically scary final episodes and a relatively slow early half. If you can get invested in the Cranes' family drama, it's worth sticking through.

That family drama can at first be hard to follow. The Cranes are a big, unhappy family, and The Haunting of Hill House jumps frequently between their childhood and adults selves. That means there are young and old versions of Nelly Crane (Violet McGraw/Victoria Pedretti), Luke Crane (Julian Hilliard/Oliver Jackson-Cohen), Theo Crane (Mckenna Grace/Kate Siegel), Shirley Crane (Lulu Wilson/Elizabeth Reaser), and Steven Crane (Paxton Singleton/Michiel Huisman), not to mention their father, Hugh Crane (Henry Thomas/Timothy Hutton), their mother, Olivia (Carla Gugino), and various other characters like Hill House's dual caretakers, the adult characters' various spouses, and more. Especially at first, it can simply be hard to follow which young character corresponds to which adult character, despite the show's sometimes half-hearted efforts to give them similar mannerisms or otherwise connect the young and old versions visually.

The Haunting of Hill House follows the Cranes throughout their strange, cursed lives, from the moment they move into Hill House--meant to be a single summer spent remodeling the house so they can sell it--to, in some cases, their bitter ends. Hill House's first victim (among the Crane family, at least) is the mother, Olivia, whose mysterious death haunts the family for the rest of their lives. In the present, they wrestle with another death while fighting with each other over hurts both petty and real.

If you stick with it, you'll eventually connect the dots, although stretched out as it is across 10 episodes, the drama can still be exhausting. That's in large part due to the show's structure. It's not just the constant jumping between past and present; the show also likes to show us only bits and pieces of events, deliberately keeping us in the dark until it feels like making certain reveals. The season's first half also repeats itself constantly, as each episode covers the same series of events from a different character's perspective (and remember, there are a ton of them). That makes for lots of repetition, glacial pacing, and an overall feeling of treading water.

No Caption Provided

The upside of that is it makes each episode's one or two really solid scares all the more startling. And halfway through the season, when all the characters' storylines catch up to one another and they finally come together, things pick up considerably. Around the same time, the scares get more intense, with the greatest jumps coming late in the season. If you're in it just for those, you might find it taxing to sit through the early episodes. That said, there's plenty more to appreciate about the season as a whole.

Take the house itself. Hill House is very well designed, with multiple set pieces within the structure that will quickly jump out and lodge themselves in your imagination. There's the red door that's always locked and can't be opened with any tools or force, and the red room behind it that seems to be occupied, though that's clearly impossible. There's the iron spiral staircase with the Chekhov's gun of loosely tied hemp ropes ever present tied around it, the eery statue gallery the characters barely acknowledge--like it's totally normal to have a room full of creepy sculptures in the middle of your home--and the dumb waiter leading to a secret basement that's not on any floor plan.

No Caption Provided

By the same token, Hill House is full of strongly characterized spooks, ghouls, and specters. There's the Bent Neck Lady, a floating ghost who appears to Nelly in her bed as a child, and elsewhere later in life. There's the Bowler Hat Man, an impossibly tall Slender Man lookalike who rhythmically taps his cane despite floating above the ground. There's a gnarled old lady who seems tied to one bedroom, an ephemeral girl who lives in the woods and visits to play with Luke, and the manipulative 1920s flapper girl. And there may or may not be a zombie in the basement.

The Haunting of Hill House is a horror movie in slow motion. It has too many characters, and gives too few answers. But it's also an atmospheric trip through one family's life, with a long, detailed view of the traumas they experience at the hands of a single haunted house and the ghouls that inhabit it. Even though it's slow at the start, it's worth seeing through to the end.

The Haunting of Hill House is streaming now on Netflix.

Where Is Xur Today? Destiny 2 Xur Location And Exotic Items Guide (Oct. 12-16)

By Chris Pereira on Oct 13, 2018 12:09 am

The weekend is upon us, which for Destiny 2 players means that Xur--the mysterious merchant who's here to either delight or disappoint you--has arrived. He's got another slate of Exotic items for sale, which you have a limited time to buy. Here's where to find Xur and what he's selling for this week.

Xur's Year 2 appearances have seen him return to his same old locations, and this visit is no different. Right now, you can find Xur on Titan. Head to the The Rig landing zone, turn left, and make your way through the open building. Once you reach the next wide open area, turn left again and drop down one floor. You'll find Xur hanging out in a building, as seen in the map below; you can also watch our video above for guidance on how to reach him.

In terms of items, it's the standard lineup: one Exotic armor for each class, and one Exotic weapon. The weapon is Tractor Cannon, the Portal gun-looking shotgun that prevents affected enemies from using abilities and makes them take more damage, especially from void. More entertainingly, however, it also blasts enemies backwards.

No Caption Provided

For armor, Titans get the Synthoceps gauntlets, which increases how far you can lunge with a melee attack and provides you with more melee and Super damage when surrounded by enemies. Hunters can pick up the Gemini Jester leg armor, which provides your dodge with some added perks: it disorients enemies and causes their radar to disappear temporarily. Warlocks can grab the Sanguine Alchemy chest armor; this buffs your Rift to provide you and allies with some enhancements. This includes being able to see your radar when aiming down sights and visual markers being placed on powerful enemies. You might already own this armor, but bear in mind that these are Year 2 versions that feature more perks than the versions from Year 1 you might have.

  • Tractor Cannon (Exotic Shotgun) -- 29 Legendary Shards
  • Synthoceps (Exotic Titan gauntlets) -- 23 Legendary Shards
  • Gemini Jester (Exotic Hunter leg armor) -- 23 Legendary Shards
  • Sanguine Alchemy (Exotic Warlock chest armor) -- 23 Legendary Shards

Alongside these specific items for sale, Xur offers the Fated Engram. This is expensive, at 97 Legendary Shards, but it guarantees you a Year One Exotic you don't already own, so it's a good way to fill out your collection, provided you can afford it.

Although this week didn't bring with it much in the way of new content, aside from the latest Ascendant Challenge, there is a lot coming soon. Tuesday, October 16, will see the release of the first of two big updates launching for the game this month. This patch will coincide with the debut of Festival of the Lost, Destiny 2's Halloween-themed event, as well as the next instance of Iron Banner. Unlike the first instance of the multiplayer activity after Forsaken's release, this one will have easier bounties, and each one will offer a piece of Powerful gear as a reward. For more on what's new in the world of Destiny, check out our guide to the latest weekly reset.

Another Fortnite Weapon Has Been Temporarily Removed

By Kevin Knezevic on Oct 13, 2018 12:05 am

Fortnite: Battle Royale's Guided Missile is causing problems again. The weapon, which was initially Vaulted back in April due to balance concerns and brought back several months later after being heavily modified, has once again been temporarily removed from Fortnite, this time due to a bug.

Developer Epic Games announced on Twitter that it was disabling the Guided Missile while it investigates an unspecified issue. The studio didn't elaborate further on the reason for its removal, but according to Fortnite Leaks, it seems players have discovered a way to exploit the Missile while consuming Shadow Stones, allowing them to use weapons while being invisible.

Shadow Stones have likewise been the source of some headaches for Epic since they were introduced at the start of Season 6. These, too, have been removed from the game several times already. Consuming one allows a player to assume a shadow form, and they normally would not be able to use any weapons while in this state, although previous bugs have allowed just that. The stones were finally re-enabled last week alongside the game's 6.01 update.

Epic hasn't provided an estimate for how long the Guided Missile will be disabled. Typically, the developer is able to resolve these types of issues fairly quickly, but as the Shadow Stones have indicated, there's no telling what other issues may arise.

While the Guided Missile may not be available in the game right now, a new type of vehicle will be soon. Fortnite's in-game News feed has teased the arrival of a vehicle called the Quadcrasher, which will be able to drive through structures. The vehicle will presumably arrive as part of next week's update. Meanwhile, this week's 6.02 patch added the Quad Launcher, a new weapon that can fire four rockets in quick succession.

Why Some In The NBA Are Betting Big On Competitive Gaming

By Sam Leichtamer on Oct 13, 2018 12:00 am

Competitive gaming is by no means a new phenomenon, but only in recent years has its potential been so widely recognized. Thanks to bigger prize pools and improvements to streaming, the scene is continuing to grow. With those larger audiences comes expanded levels of interest from investors--and among those taking a close look are individuals from a place you might not expect: traditional sports.

In the latest episode of GameSpot Chronicle, which you can watch above, we chat with a variety of individuals who believe in the potential future of competitive gaming. That includes Sebastian Park, the vice president of esports for Clutch Gaming and the NBA's Houston Rockets, who thinks it can become a top three sport in the world.

We also spoke with Rick Fox, the former Los Angeles Lakers player and current owner of esports team Echo Fox, and Kirk Lacob, assistant general manager of the Golden State Warriors, an NBA team that's invested heavily in esports. Along with Park, they talk in the video about the continuing investments that are being made to help competitive gaming reach its potential, both in terms of increasing production values and improving things better for players.

"Esports is 24/7, 365 days," Fox said. "And we're building an industry and building on an industry foundation that's been laid long before I showed up. But what I'm hoping to do is add value to this community of esports by delivering on the same passion, the same energy--and there are no off-days."

We've previously looked at how the esports scene has changed fans' lives; for even more, check out our Chronicle episodes charting the path from streamer to star and examining the effect of gaming on the brain.

There's More To Assassin's Creed Odyssey's Ending Than You Might Think

By Jordan Ramée on Oct 12, 2018 11:56 pm

The Assassin's Creed franchise has always been a mixture of three different stories. There's the present day narrative, the historical Assassins vs. Templars story, and also the tale of Those Who Came Before--the Isu--and the creation of their Pieces of Eden. Prior to Assassin's Creed Odyssey, the franchise wove together these three narratives into one playable story across each of its games, but Ubisoft's newest title splits its campaign into three separate parts.

As a result, beating Assassin's Creed Odyssey's main campaign--Kassandra or Alexios' story--and watching the last cutscene is not the end. Kassandra and Alexios' quest does conclude, but the ending to both the present day narrative and the Isu story can only be unlocked by completing certain optional quests. In total, there are three "final" cutscenes in Assassin's Creed Odyssey, and the optional two are fairly easy to miss. Read ahead to make sure you don't.

The rest of this article delves into several of Assassin's Creed Odyssey's mid- to late-game features and missions. If you haven't at least finished Episode 7 of the game--you'd have unlocked the "Legend in the Making" Achievement/Trophy--then turn back if you don't want to be spoiled. If you're at least at that point, don't worry. We won't be going into detail about what Odyssey's three endings are or the serious lore implications some of them have. This is just a guide for how to reach those endings.

First Storyline - Odyssey

This is the first storyline you unlock in the game, and probably the first you'll complete. The game's main story--as it primarily focuses on Kassandra and Alexios' quest to reunite their family--is called Odyssey, and it's the only mandatory narrative you need to complete to beat Assassin's Creed Odyssey. Doing so will cause the game's credits to roll.

The Odyssey storyline can end in several different ways depending on your actions throughout the game. Who you saved, which targets you killed, and what dialogue options you picked determine one of nine different conclusions to Kassandra and Alexios' story. However, if you want to know what happens to some of the other characters--both during ancient Greece and in the present day--as well as how Assassin's Creed Odyssey ties into the rest of the franchise, you'll need to finish the two optional stories.

Second Storyline - Hunt The Cult Of Kosmos

You'll discover the Cult of Kosmos relatively early into Odyssey's storyline, and from there it breaks off into a separate questline called Hunt The Cult Of Kosmos. Snippets of this storyline will interweave into Odyssey throughout the rest of the game, but to complete Hunt The Cult of Kosmos, you'll need to do a lot of optional assassination missions.

Completing Hunt The Cult Of Kosmos unlocks an extra cutscene that completes the present day narrative. Layla and her companions' story is left fairly open at the end of the game, so if you want to see what happens next, you'll have to finish Hunt The Cult Of Kosmos. To do that, you'll need to kill the leader of the cult, who's known as The Ghost of Kosmos.

Getting to The Ghost is not nearly as straightforward as the game's other targets. There are eight branches of cultists, seven of which have six members while the last only has one. You'll need to follow clues to discover the identities of every low-ranking member, find each one, and kill them; that's the only way to learn the identities of the Sages they serve. Each of the eight Sages hides a clue to The Ghost's identity, so once you've dealt with them, you can go after the cult's mastermind.

You will need to be a high level--somewhere between 48 and 50--and carry very good armor and weapons to deal with some of the cult's strongest members. Because of how long Hunt The Cult Of Kosmos is, there's a good chance you complete the other two storylines first, but the order doesn't matter. Some of the cult's members are relatively weak--between levels 15 and 20--so you can start hunting for their identities while completing the other two storylines and return later to kill any high ranking cultists after Kassandra/Alexios has grown stronger.

Third Storyline - Between Two Worlds

The final cutscene is unlocked by completing the third narrative, Between Two Worlds, which only becomes available once you discover the lost city of Atlantis during the Odyssey storyline. Between Two Worlds is the shortest storyline in Assassin's Creed Odyssey, but it's arguably the hardest.

To complete it, you'll need to overcome four mythological creatures in the world. Three of them--the Minotaur, the Cyclops, and Medusa--are some of the game's hardest boss battles. The fourth, the Sphinx, is a series of challenging riddles. You'll start Between Two Worlds about three-quarters of the way through Odyssey, but you'll probably still need to level up a bit before taking this storyline on.

You definitely want to complete Between Two Worlds, though. The four mythological creatures represent some of the most fascinating side quests, amazing fights, and clever puzzles in the entire game. Plus, the cutscene you earn for completing the storyline provides both answers and further questions to the Isu, the Pieces of Eden, and what might be included in Assassin's Creed Odyssey's upcoming The Fate of Atlantis DLC.

7 Best Anime You Should Be Watching This Fall (US)

By Jordan Ramée on Oct 12, 2018 11:43 pm

The fall 2018 anime season is underway, and there's a bunch of new series airing on Netflix, Amazon, Crunchyroll, Funimation, and HIDIVE. Here are our seven top recommendations you should add to your queue.

Of all the anime this season, Bloom Into You is the must watch. This love story between two high school girls also addresses the pressures of living with low self-worth and the struggles of understanding asexual love. Despite the heaviness of the story's drama, there are both brief snippets of hilarity and quiet moments of internal resilience that draw you into the changing dynamic between the second-year student council president--who can't escape her dead sister's shadow--and the young first-year--who dreams of falling in love but doesn't feel the emotions that manga and music say she should.

Animated by Troyca, Inc--the studio responsible for the spectacular 2017 anime Re:Creators--and featuring music by Michiru Oshima--who's composed music for anime like Fullmetal Alchemist and video games like The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess--Bloom Into You might be the most gorgeous anime this season, both to watch and listen to. The series is exclusively airing on HIDIVE in both Japanese and English.

Zombie Land Saga is about an ordinary high school girl who leaves her house to start her first day of school--only to be struck and killed by a passing truck. She wakes up 10 years later, revived as a zombie by an eccentric young man who wants to manage an idol group entirely composed of the living dead. The story mixes together idol tropes and common zombie story stereotypes to create something truly bizarre, but it's all surprisingly fun to watch. The series airs in English on Funimation and in Japanese on Crunchyroll.

A bit more somber, Iroduku: The World in Colors is a series about a teenage witch, named Hitomi, who's colorblind and lives in the year 2078. That is, until her grandmother transports Hitomi 60 years into the past to 2018. Now lost in a world she doesn't completely recognize and lacking the know-how to complete certain tasks--like needing paper money to pay for things--Hitomi struggles to find the teenager who will one day grow up to be her grandmother so she can go home. The anime is already setting itself up to explore similar themes to what we saw in 2016's Orange. Which isn't surprising, as Yuuko Kakihara--who worked on the script for five of Orange's episodes--is the writer for The World in Colors.

This season also features a few new isekai--stories where a normal person from our world is transported to another--but the one you want to watch is That Time I got Reincarnated as a Slime. It's pretty much exactly about what the name implies. A dude from our world dies and he's reborn as a cute little blob of sentient goo in a fantasy world of dragons and goblins. The series is a little weird at first, but stick with it--the manga that the anime is based on goes to some charming places. The show is airing in the original Japanese on Crunchyroll and in English on Funimation.

Ms. Vampire who lives in my neighborhood is a cute story about a doll-loving middle-schooler moving in with a centuries-old otaku vampire who looks to be no older than a high school first-year. The first episode tackles the "but where are the parents" problem that most anime have with a humorous twist, and flips the regular person meeting a vampire dynamic by having the normal girl be the strange one with habits that are difficult to comprehend. The first episode of Ms. Vampire who lives in my neighborhood possesses tremendous comedic timing and plays off your expectations of slice-of-life tropes in pretty hilarious ways. You can watch the anime on Crunchyroll.

Golden Kamuy returns on Crunchyroll and Funimation with a second season, continuing the adventures of our favorite band of ridiculous treasure seekers who are racing to find certain escaped convicts who have strange tattoos all over their bodies. When combined, the tattoos complete map that leads to a massive pile of gold, which pretty much everyone in the anime wants for themselves. Golden Kamuy's first season aired this past spring, and ended fairly abruptly in the middle of the anime's story, so it's good to see the show continue again so quickly.

Castlevania is also getting its second season this fall. Once again, the anime is exclusive to Netflix, but that also means you get the whole season up front. Capturing the aesthetic of the video game Castlevania: Symphony of the Night, Castlevania the anime portrays the bloody tale of Trevor Belmont's quest to defeat Dracula. Castlevania delves into murder, gore, and heroes and villains that are both right in their own way and also deeply flawed. Think Berserk or Devilman Crybaby. Castlevania can be unsettling at times, but the show captures the essence of the Castlevania video game because of it

The full list of anime series and movies that have been confirmed to premier this fall on Amazon, Crunchyroll, Funimation, HIDIVE, and Netflix are listed below. We'll update the list if additional titles are announced.

Black Panther 2 Brings Back Ryan Coogler As Director And Writer

By Jordan Ramée on Oct 12, 2018 11:41 pm

Marvel has signed on Ryan Coogler to write and direct the sequel to Black Panther. Coogler is currently in the midst of developing Wrong Answer--which stars Black Panther's Michael B. Jordan--and executive producing the sequel to Space Jam.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Coogler is aiming to start production on the sequel as early as next year--sometime between late 2019 and early 2020. Marvel has not yet announced a release window for the movie. Currently, the only MCU films on the horizon are Captain Marvel, Avengers 4, and Spider-Man: Far From Home.

Black Panther focuses on the the titular hero, a fictional African prince and superhero who must prove he has what it takes to be king of his country, Wakanda, and a symbol for the rest of the world. Starring Chadwick Boseman as T'Challa, aka Black Panther, the movie was a massive critical and commercial success, earning more than $1.3 billion worldwide.

It comes as no surprise then, that Black Panther is getting a sequel. After Black Panther's debut, Coogler and his creative team didn't sign on for anything, and instead took the time to make the best possible deal with Marvel they could.

Black Panther was one of our favorite movies of 2018. In our Black Panther review, Michael Rougeau wrote, "Black Panther is a top tier Marvel movie with all the humor, style, action, passion, and fun that the MCU has come to embody. Black Panther is a cultural event that's going to be hard for Marvel to top, no matter how many worlds Thanos conquers later this year in Infinity War."

Sea Of Thieves Update Adds New Quests; Here Are The Patch Notes

By Jordan Ramée on Oct 12, 2018 11:41 pm

Rare has announced a new update for Sea of Thieves that adds a new type of quest to the action-adventure pirate simulation. Update 1.3.1 also patches some of the game's bugs and makes quality-of-life improvements.

The new type of quest is called Cargo Runs and completing them allows you to rank up in the Merchant Alliance. The mission parameters are relatively simple. After selecting a Cargo Run contract, you need to find the cargo in question, obtain it by whatever means you deem necessary, and take it to its destination. You're rated on speed and how well you handled the goods, so if you want the best possible reward, you'll need to travel as fast as you can while also being careful to not damage the cargo.

Update 1.3.1 makes several other changes to preexisting features and mechanics. The new Cargo Runs are now always included in Athena's Fortune voyages. From now on, rowboats will take more damage from Gunpowder Barrels, and you'll be able to push your rowboat if it happens to get stuck under an environmental obstacle. It's also much more worth your time to pursue Skeleton Ships, as the reward for defeating Skeleton Captain-led ships has doubled.

Call Of Duty: Black Ops 4 -- Every Multiplayer Map Confirmed (So Far)

By Jordan Ramée on Oct 12, 2018 11:38 pm

Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 launches with 14 multiplayer maps. There's already a 15th map scheduled for November as a post-launch expansion, but it will be free for all players.

Right now, players have access to Arsenal, Contraband, Firing Range, Frequency, Gridlock, Hacienda, Icebreaker, Jungle, Militia, Morocco, Payload, Seaside, Slums, and Summit. Four of the maps--Firing Range, Jungle, Slums, and Summit--are all from previous Black Ops games, but with a visual upgrade. In November, the Call of Duty classic Nuketown, also remastered with upgraded visuals, will become available. Treyarch hasn't announced how map updates after Nuketown will work, but they'll probably be a part of paid DLC expansions.

According to Forbes, the 14 original maps are described as follows:

  • Arsenal: Hostile covert ops on a manufacturing facility of a powerful North American military defense contractor means someone may have stolen the keys to the castle.
  • Contraband: Surveillance of an international arms smuggling operation has uncovered this shipping hub on a remote, uncharted island off the coast of Colombia.
  • Firing Range: US Forces gear up for red team/blue team combat exercises in this Guantanamo Bay military base.
  • Frequency: A covert listening station deep in the mountainous region of Hunan Province is being used to track strategic targets across the globe.
  • Gridlock: A Japanese metropolis whose city center has been jammed up by a bank heist gone wrong.
  • Hacienda: A lavish vineyard estate situated on a quiet lake in the Spanish countryside, home to a high-ranking crime syndicate boss.
  • Icebreaker: A long lost Nuclear submarine in the Arctic houses a uranium supply which a Russian unit has come to salvage.
  • Jungle: The heat is on as Cold War forces collide in the sweltering depths of the Vietnam jungle.
  • Militia: Anti-government extremists backed covertly by a Russian cell are stockpiling weaponry in a remote region of Alaskan wilderness near the Bearing Strait.
  • Morocco: Rebels in a small Moroccan village are using government military supply planes as target practice as they fly over the surrounding Sahara Desert.
  • Payload: A defensive ICBM launch facility deep in an Icelandic mountain range has been infiltrated by hostile forces attempting to steal a nuclear warhead.
  • Seaside: An anti-government protest in this quaint coastal Spanish town grew out of control and forced a military shutdown.
  • Slums: Street battles rage in head to head heat through the center of a run down Panama neighborhood.
  • Summit: Cold War surveillance is at its peak above the clouds in the mountaintop listening post in the Ural Mountains.

These maps do not include the ones exclusive to Black Ops 4's Zombies and Blackout mode. In Zombies, IX and Voyage of Despair are the two maps for the new Chaos storyline, while Blood of the Dead is the map for the Aether storyline--which continues the overarching narrative from the previous three Black Ops games. Blackout launches with only one map, but it's the biggest one the Call of Duty franchise has ever seen.

Be sure to check out round-up of everything we know about Call of Duty: Black Ops 4. The game launches on October 12 for Xbox One, PS4, and PC. There are numerous editions available for pre-order.

Tactical FPS Game World War 3 Releasing In Early Access Next Week

By Jordan Ramée on Oct 12, 2018 11:36 pm

The Farm 51 has announced that the first-person shooter World War 3 will release in early access on October 19. The game costs $28 USD to download and play. We've reached out to ask about European and Australian prices.

World War 3 takes tactical, modern day combat and puts it on a global battlefield. Where Halo is sci-fi, Battlefield has destructive environments, and Call of Duty fantasizes high-speed combat, World War 3 is aiming for a more authentic experience. Your character can't perform superhuman feats and the ballistic system for each gun behaves as it would in the real world. You'll have to be careful and rely on your teammates if you hope to win matches.

Multiplayer matches host 64 players at a time, and the tide of the war will have your team constantly switching between attacking enemy positions, or defending your own. So far, World War 3 has two modes, Warzone and Recon. In Warzone, you travel to real-world locations--like Berlin and Warsaw--to engage in massive battles where your team will need to respond to multiple threats while planning your own attacks. Recon mode is much smaller, tasking squads with securing "high-value targets in hostile territory" where individual decisions have a more immediate impact.

World War 3 launches in early access on PC. The Farm 51 is also considering bringing the game to consoles at a certain point, but nothing has been decided yet.

Acclaimed Hellblade: Senua's Sacrifice Is Getting Xbox One And PS4 Physical Editions

By Jordan Ramée on Oct 12, 2018 11:35 pm

505 Games has announced that Hellblade: Senua's Sacrifice will be getting a physical retail edition. Coming to both Xbox One and PS4, the physical edition will be available on December 4.

Originally releasing in 2017 as a PS4 console exclusive, Hellblade eventually launched on Xbox One in 2018. The game was then ported to Oculus Rift and HTC Vive, and if you already own the game on PC then you'll unlock the VR version of the game for free.

Hellblade: Senua's Sacrifice was one of our top 10 games of 2017. The game puts you in the shoes of Senua, a Pict warrior who's traveling through a long-abandoned Nordic land. Her journey forces her to confront her guilt-ridden past that takes on the form of literal enemies, spectral remnants, and vivid hallucinations. Hellblade forces you to undergo numerous trials--ranging from harrowing fights to perspective-bending puzzles--and captures the surreal experience of someone suffering from poor mental health.

In our Hellblade: Senua's Sacrifice review, GameSpot editor Alessandro Fillari gave the game an 8/10, writing, "Hellblade's most notable achievement is the handling of an incredibly sensitive subject matter within an engaging and well-crafted action/adventure game. At its heart, the story is about Senua's struggle to come to terms with her illness. In the process, she learns to find the strength within herself to endure, and to make peace with her past. And in a profound and physical way, we go through those same struggles with her, and come away with a better understanding of a piece of something that many people in the world struggle with."

Hellblade: Senua's Sacrifice is available for Xbox One, PS4, and PC; and can be played in VR on Oculus Rift and HTC Vive.

Attack On Titan Event Coming To Crunchyroll's Anime Mobile RPG

By Jordan Ramée on Oct 12, 2018 11:34 pm

Crunchyroll has announced that DanMachi: Memoria Freese, a free mobile RPG that uses characters from the anime Is it Wrong to Try to Pick Up Girls in a Dungeon, will have a limited-time Attack on Titan event. The event is exclusive to North America.

The event incorporates lines spoken from the original actors from the Attack on Titan anime. You'll be able to have characters from both Titan and Dungeon team up together as they defend Orario from a Titan's attack. The event launches on October 30 at 7 PM PT / 10 PM ET.

In DanMachi, you build your team from an assortment of Dungeon's characters and battle your way through an ever-changing dungeon that's different depending on the time of day you play. The game's original stories are created by Dungeon's writer Fujino ÅŒmori, and the anime's original cast voice their characters in the game. As a Gacha game, players spend currency--virtual or real--to unlock new characters to fight with and items to use.

No Caption Provided

Is it Wrong to Try to Pick Up Girls in a Dungeon tells the story of Bell Cranel, a young solo adventurer who one day discovers the goddess Hestia in a dungeon. He pledges to serve as a part of her Familia and works hard every day to both serve his goddess and become worthy enough of catching the eye of Ais Wallenstein, a famous adventurer he's in love with. The original Japanese version of the anime can be watched on Crunchyroll, and both the Japanese and English versions are available on HiDive.

Attack on Titan is in the midst of its third season. In the anime, giant and seemingly mindless Titans roam the Earth for people to eat. The only defense against these Titans are giant walls that keep the monsters out, and the Vertical Maneuvering Equipment that allows soldiers to zip between buildings and trees at dizzying speeds to reach the Titan's only weak point, the neck. Attack on Titan is streaming in Japanese on Crunchyroll and in both Japanese and English on Funimation and Netflix.

DanMachi: Memoria Freese is available for both iOS and Android. If you're looking for more anime to watch, be sure to check out our fall 2018 anime guide.

Call Of Duty: Black Ops 4 Early Review, Release Date, Blackout, Zombies, And Everything We Know

By Jordan Ramée on Oct 12, 2018 11:21 pm

Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 is out now, and it continues the franchise's history of explosive multiplayer, first-person shooter combat. Old mechanics and features return, such as the fan favorite Zombie mode, but the game implements several changes to the Black Ops formula. We've compiled everything we know about Black Ops 4 below.

Black Ops has a pretty lengthy history. The first, releasing in 2010, takes place during the Cold War in the 1960s, switching between CIA operatives Alex Mason and Frank Woods. 2012's Black Ops 2 moved the story to 2025, following Alex's son, David Mason. 2015's Black Ops 3, continued the previous game's journey into the future and followed operatives in 2065.

The first Black Ops featured the first playable protagonists in a Call of Duty game to speak during gameplay, and not just cutscenes. It's sequel introduced the Grief and Turned variations to Call of Duty's Zombies mode. The third game was the first Call of Duty title where Activision and Sony's partnership created limited-time exclusive DLC content for PlayStation consoles.

What Is Black Ops 4?

Black Ops 4 is the seventh Call of Duty game developed by Treyarch, one of the many video game companies under the Activision umbrella. The game is the first Call of Duty title to lack a traditional single-player campaign, instead including individual missions that each focus on the backstory of one of Black Ops 4's multiplayer Specialists. The feature is similar to the Operator missions from Rainbow Six Siege, but are more story-driven and tie together in an overarching plot. The missions take place between 2025 and 2065, making Black Ops 4 a sequel story to Black Ops 2 and a prequel to Black Ops 3.

Release Date/Day One Update/Preloading

Call of Duty Black Ops 4 launched on October 12 for Xbox One, PS4, and PC. The game has a fairly large Day One update, so be sure your system of choice has enough hard drive space. The game comes with special Deluxe, Digital Deluxe, Pro, and Mystery Box Editions, all of which are detailed in our buying guide.

Review

We have not yet published a full review of the game, but you can check out our thoughts so far in our Black Ops 4 early review impressions piece. In it, Kallie Plagge offers a look at each of the three main modes and says, "As a continuation of the Black Ops subseries, Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 both benefits from and is limited by its past. Its standard multiplayer mode feels only tangentially related to what came before, rather than explicitly building upon it, and the bigger changes lose impact as a result. Zombies, too, mixes old and new; it's overflowing with content at launch, offering a brand-new story and a continuation of the existing one."

Multiplayer, Maps, And Specialists

For the first time in a Call of Duty game, Black Ops 4 ditches health regeneration. Firearms employ both hitscan and projectile damage, instead of just the former in the game's new ballistics system. Predictive recoil patterns and weapon customization return. Together, it makes for a more tactical experience that promotes teammates working together instead of playing as a lone wolf. Several classic Call of Duty modes--including Zombies--return in Black Ops 4, but the game also features the series' first battle royale mode, called Blackout.

Black Ops 4 launches with 14 multiplayer maps--Frequency, Contraband, Seaside, Payload, Hacienda, Gridlock, Arsenal, Icebreaker, Morocco, Militia, Jungle, Slums, Firing Range, and Summit. In November, the Call of Duty classic map Nuketown will launch for free, making a total of 15 maps in the Black Ops 4 base game. More maps will launch later as paid post-launch DLC.

Just like its predecessor, Black Ops 4 will feature Specialists in multiplayer. Each Specialist has their own unique loadout and is designed to handle specific tasks. There are 10 in Black Ops 4, six of which--Ruin, Prophet, Battery, Seraph, Nomad, and Firebreak--return from Black Ops 3. The other four--Recon, Ajax, Torque, and Crash--are completely new to the series.

Blackout

Blackout incorporates all the hallmarks of previous battle royale games. Up to 100 players drop onto a map and have to battle it out until only one player or team remains. Weapons and equipment can be scavenged from buildings, and vehicles can be found on the road and used to cross the map more quickly. The safe areas where players can survive gradually shrinks over time, forcing the survivors closer together into more hectic firefights. The mode can be played solo, or in squads.

Blackout is a little different from games like PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds and Fortnite. For one, the map in Blackout is fairly large and encompasses a wide variety of different terrains and landscapes instead of focusing on a single theme, like a forest or desert. Blackout is the largest battlefield seen in any of the Call of Duty games, incorporating numerous landmarks and Easter eggs from past titles. There's also a slight PvE element to Blackout, as computer-controlled zombies wander around certain areas of the map. Killing them lets you earn special loot items from Call of Duty's Zombie mode, like the Ray Gun and Cymbal Monkey.

Zombies

The cooperative Zombies mode returns in Black Ops 4, but this time it features two separate storylines for you to play. The first, titled Aether, follows the reestablished Zombies storyline from the first three Black Ops games. The second, called Chaos, features new characters--Scarlett, Stanton, Diego and Bruno.

Exclusive PS4 Content

Like the Call of Duty titles in recent years, Black Ops 4 will have content that's exclusive to the PS4 for a limited time. This exclusivity period includes all seasonal events, new Specialists, and post-launch multiplayer maps. However, instead of the PS4 having a two-to-four week head start on the other system, the console will only have exclusive access to post-launch content a week early.

Johnny English Strikes Again Review: Quintessentially English

By Oscar Dayus on Oct 12, 2018 11:20 pm

For an action-comedy film, Johnny English Strikes Again contains remarkably little action. Some would argue it also contains little comedy. As much as I love this franchise (and other genre spoofs like Spy and Austin Powers), it's hard to vouch for this threequel when the plot and many of its jokes are exact copies of those seen in the movie's two predecessors. Thankfully, some excellent performances and a handful of laugh-out-loud moments rescue this from being a complete English cock-up.

Strikes Again sees Johnny (Rowan Atkinson) once again brought out of retirement to aid Her Majesty's Secret Service in its fight against a cyberterrorist threat wreaking havoc with the United Kingdom's infrastructure. He's joined by old friend Bough (Ben Miller) as they investigate the source of the attacks, and over the film's 88-minute running time the pair bumble their way through London, southern France, and northern Scotland with all the glamor and style you'd expect from a James Bond wannabe. In response to the cyber-threat, English eschews technology for fear of being tracked, so MI7's smartphones and hybrid cars are out, and trusty old handguns and Aston Martins are in. But the film mostly foregoes action and fight scenes in favor of contrived slapstick, to mixed success.

Along the way, Bough and English must deal with a hapless Prime Minister (Emma Thompson), femme fatale Ophelia (Olga Kurylenko), and Silicon Valley billionaire Jason Volta (Jake Lacy). While Thompson demonstrates her acting pedigree with a nuanced performance far better than her lines should allow and Kurylenko does her best with a thin character, Volter is totally listless as a villain. He intends to control the data of the world's 12 major nations, but quite why he wants this information is never revealed, and in any case a plot surrounding a G12 summit surrendering control of the public's browsing history doesn't make the most riveting framework for a film produced, at least in part, for children. It's The Phantom Menace's separatist trade agreements all over again.

Lacy does little to help Volter's abstract, anaemic threat. His performance is neither intimidating enough for us to take him seriously as a villain, nor over-the-top and camp enough to be a great comedy baddie, and this makes the inevitable victory for English feel like a dud moment. That victory is painted as a win for tradition, physicality, honor, and integrity over technology and data and other such modern phenomena, and this is a theme revisited time and again throughout the film. Strikes Again attempts to make a point in its finale--computers are bad, kids--but the effect is dulled by English's heroic moment relying on not one but two pieces of modern tech. You know, to defeat the Zuckerbergian tech giant. Combined with an extended, over-explained VR sequence and a lengthy scene featuring English dancing to Darude's Sandstorm, Strikes Again screams of a mid-life crisis writing room desperately attempting to remain relevant.

Thankfully, Atkinson is on fine form, and his outstanding performance consistently entertains, despite the dated jokes he has to play with. You can often see the punchlines coming a mile off, but when you have possibly the best physical comedian since Charlie Chaplin, it's hard not to laugh anyway. He perfectly walks the line between dramatic gravitas and slapstick silliness and carries an otherwise poor film entirely on his back. Thompson's scenes are also worth remembering, as she does her best impression of a head of state desperate to retain control in the face of chaos, but this is home territory for Atkinson, and he takes full advantage.

Kurylenko and Miller are underutilized, however. Ophelia has plenty of screen time but few memorable scenes or lines, and Bough never quite achieves the same chemistry with English the pair managed in the 2003 original. As a result, English's character isn't examined as closely as he is in either of the previous films, despite some half-hearted attempts to show him as a more fleshed-out character than he might initially appear. There is potential there, but a throwaway misogynist comment about Bough's wife is not the way to realize it.

All of this leaves a film that feels like a missed opportunity. Strikes Again simply isn't as funny as its predecessors. It presents a boring villain, asks us to care about data privacy, and relies on tired, cliched jokes--surely comedy has surpassed laughing at an old woman with thick glasses who can't drive?

Despite its numerous problems, I enjoyed Johnny English Strikes Again. It has moments of great comic timing from Atkinson, some good old fashioned acting from Emma Thompson, and a consistent sense of style--crucially, it grasps that being a spy is cool, and doesn't hesitate to show us so. And what's more English than looking cooler than you are?

The GoodThe Bad

Atkinson is a master of physical comedy, and he's in fine form here

Old, cliched jokes that have been done before and whose punchlines are telegraphed

Emma Thompson works wonders with an average script

Boring excuse for a villain delivers no sense of danger or fun

Some genuinely funny moments, and English remains cool despite his failings

Familiar friends return, but their relationships are underdeveloped

Plot is an insipid mess and major characters' motivations are never truly believable

Destiny 2 Weekly Reset: Xur Location, Festival Of The Lost Details, Ascendant Challenge, Nightfall

By Chris Pereira on Oct 12, 2018 11:06 pm

Some major changes are on the way for Destiny 2 later this month--Sleeper Simulant is being nerfed in Gambit--as is the Halloween-themed Festival of the Lost event. In the meantime, we have the latest weekly reset, which doesn't bring much in the way of new content. It does, however, mark a refresh for activities across the game, offering a variety of new ways to obtain Powerful gear. Here's the lowdown on what's new in the reset this week for Forsaken owners, including the Ascendant Challenge, Spider's big bounty, Eververse's store update, the Nightfall, and more.

Where Is Xur?

We've reached Friday, which means Xur has appeared. This week, he can be found on Titan, and he has the usual assortment of Exotic gear for sale--one weapon plus three pieces of armor (one per class). The highlight of the bunch is the shotgun Tractor Cannon, which, while not a new item, is great fun to use. You can get the full rundown in our Xur location and items guide.

Festival Of The Lost Detailed

Ahead of its launch on October 16, Bungie has provided details on what to expect from Destiny 2's first-ever Festival of the Lost event. In addition to the rewards and masks you can get, the company revealed that Powerful gear will be up for grabs as part of a murder mystery involving Master Ives. Daily bounties will offer Fragmented Souls, which can be cashed in for masks and a new auto rifle, while there will also be a brand-new activity called the Haunted Forest. You'll face increasingly difficult enemies in what sounds like a Horde-style mode with a 15-minute time limit. Additionally, if you're at the level cap, you'll get a bonus Bright Engram (with new items inside) each time you fill the XP bar, and new cosmetics will be for sale at Eververse.

Iron Banner Returns Soon

Festival of the Lost and the new patch aren't all that's launching on October 16. That also marks the start of the next week-long Iron Banner event, which features some revisions over September's instance. Most notably, you'll find bounties are easier to complete, and each one will offer Powerful gear.

Ascendant Challenge

Another new Ascendant Challenge--possibly the last original one we'll see for now before they begin to be recycled--is now available. The portal is located in a Lost Sector, and inside you'll have to deal with a gauntlet of enemies and (of course) some platforming. You'll need to use a Tincture of Queensfoil in order to see the portal, and be sure to grab the bounty from Petra before starting. The chest you receive at the end is nothing special, but the bounty itself offers Powerful gear.

Spider Bounty -- Wanted: Gravetide Summoner

For the third week running, the big bounty offered by Spider--the one that offers Powerful gear--is Wanted: Gravetide Summoner. But whereas last week's repeat of this did at least take you to a different Lost Sector, this one brings us back to the same one as two weeks ago. Take five Ghost Fragments to Spider to pick up the bounty, and you'll receive an Adventure on Titan's The Rig. Kill the boss in the Lost Sector to complete the bounty and earn Powerful gear.

Nightfall

As is typical, the Nightfall has been refreshed with three new choices of Strikes. You can pick from Warden of Nothing, The Corrupted, and The Pyramidion; all three have a recommended Power level of 540. Whichever you choose, there's a piece of Powerful gear for completing it. If you manage to do so while achieving a score of 100,000 or more, you'll also receive another Powerful gear.

Eververse

A new set of bounties are available from Eververse, most of which reward you with varying amounts of Bright Dust. The cost of these bounties varies, but as always, the most expensive one gets you the most Bright Dust for your investment--provided you finish it. This week, that bounty is Herosim in Battle (complete five Strikes from the Strike playlist), which will net you 150 Bright Dust upon completion.

The Rise of the Challenge bounty is available, which offers a Prismatic Facet as a reward. If you have a Facet on hand (or are willing to spend some Silver), you can activate the Matrix, which has a new set of items. Here's what's on offer:

  • Guardian Angel (Exotic weapon ornament for The Chaperone)
  • Death to Kells (Exotic ship)
  • Dragonfly Regalia Vest (Legendary Hunter chest armor)
  • Dragonfly Regalia Helm (Legendary Titan helmet)
  • Dragonfly Regalia Bond (Legendary Warlock bond)
  • Atlantis Shell (Legendary Ghost shell)
  • Astera Blade (Legendary ship)
  • Here I Stand (Legendary vehicle)
  • Jade Rabbit Projection (Rare Ghost projection)
  • Awkward Greeting (Rare emote)

Petra

Petra's location has rotated again, and we're back to the most pleasant of the bunch. She's in Divalian Mists, right next to the Dreaming City's landing zone. You'll want to speak with her to grab the Ascendant Challenge bounty, as well as The Orange Engine, which lets you do the mission of the same name. War for the Dreaming City has you again complete eight daily bounties for Petra during the week, and Gateway Between Worlds has you take part in the Blind Well. All four of these reward you with Powerful gear.

Clan Bounties

New clan bounties are now available. The weekly ones offer the biggest clan XP rewards, with Blindsight (completing the Blind Well at Tier III or above while in a fireteam with clanmates) offering the most. You can also pick up Band of Adventurers (complete three Adventures with clanmates) and House Advantage (complete Gambit matches with clanmates). Those ready to dive into the Raid can also taken on Summoning Ritual, which asks you to complete the challenge of the same name. Complete that, and you'll net yourself some Powerful gear.

Vanguard Strikes

The Vanguard Strikes playlist again has the same weekly challenge, which asks you to complete three Strikes while using the same subclass element as one of your Fireteam members. Do that for a piece of Powerful gear. You may want to consider picking Solar, as that lines up with this week's modifiers, which are as follows:

  • Solar Singe -- Solar damage increases slightly from all sources
  • Blackout -- Enemy melee attacks are significantly more powerful, and radar is disabled
  • Brawler -- Melee abilities deal more damage and recharge much faster

Daily Heroic Story Missions

Completing three daily Heroic story missions during the week will net you a Powerful gear, making it worthwhile to replay some old missions. These feature the same modifiers outlined above for the Strikes playlist, and you'll have five different options with varying Power levels:

  • Looped -- 280 Power level
  • Chosen -- 280 Power level
  • Pilgrimage -- 360 Power level
  • Ice and Shadow -- 360 Power level
  • Nothing Left to Say -- 500 Power level

Gambit

Head over to The Drifter in the Tower for a new set of bounties. The most important of the bunch to grab is the weekly one, Might of the Traveler. This has you do certain things--cast Supers, defeat enemies with Supers, and create Orbs of Light--to earn progress. Complete the bounty for a piece of Powerful gear.

Currently, we're in the midst of the Dreaming City's three-week cycle, so the special Primeval needed to begin the Malfeasance questline is not as likely to show up in Gambit (though it can still spawn). However, Bungie recently said it will soon make it spawn more often.

Flashpoint

The current Flashpoint is on Titan, which is where you'll also find the current Heroic adventure (Siren Song). Complete the Adventure for a piece of Powerful gear, and finish the Flashpoint--by completing Heroic adventures, Public Events, and Lost Sectors--for another.

EA Teases Command & Conquer Remaster For PC, And There Won't Be Microtransactions

By Jordan Ramée on Oct 12, 2018 11:05 pm

EA has announced that it is considering a PC remaster of some of the Command & Conquer games. Command & Conquer Rivals is still scheduled for mobile platforms, but EA wants to respect the long-time fans of the franchise who played the original games on PC.

"Following the reveal of Rivals, we heard you loud and clear: the Command & Conquer community also wants to see the franchise return to PC," wrote EA producer Jim Vessella in a Reddit post. "And as a fan of C&C for over 20 years, I couldn't agree more. With that in mind we've been exploring some exciting ideas regarding remastering the classic PC games, and already have the ball rolling on our first effort to celebrate the upcoming 25th Year Anniversary."

The original Command & Conquer first released on PC in 1995 and celebrates its 25th anniversary in 2020. Vessella's post hints that EA already has something planned for the anniversary in the works, but whether or not it's a remaster of the original game remains to be seen. Vessella's original post implies more than one of the Command & Conquer PC games will be remastered, but did not reveal if each title would be released separately or in one collection.

In the comments section of his Reddit post, Vessella wrote about definitive details about the remaster if it does come to be, focusing on answering people who wanted to know if the game would have loot boxes or purchasable time savers. "We will not be adding any microtransactions to a C&C Remaster," he wrote.

Every Command & Conquer game, from the 1995 original to 2012's MMO Command & Conquer: Tiberium Alliances, is playable on PC. Even without counting spin-offs, there are nearly a dozen games.

Here's When You Can Play Destiny 2's Festival Of The Lost

By Steve Watts on Oct 12, 2018 10:51 pm

Bungie is rolling out Update 2.0.4 for Destiny 2 soon, alongside its seasonal events and a new Iron Banner. In an update, the studio has outlined its release plans so you can schedule your playtime down to the minute. Almost. Eyes up, Guardian.

On Tuesday, October 16 the event will begin. First at 7 AM PT / 10 AM ET, Destiny 2 maintenance will begin, but it won't be accompanied by downtime. Companion features might be unavailable, but at this point you should be ready to download the update. At 9:45 AM PT / 12:45 PM ET, anyone who hasn't installed 2.0.4 will be kicked out and taken back to the title screen to prompt them to install it. Then at 10 AM PT / 1 PM ET, the maintenance will be over and companion features will be reenabled.

Once you've downloaded and installed version 2.0.4 you should be able to dive right into the new events. Those include a new Iron Banner event and the annual Halloween-themed Festival of the Lost. Iron Banner has been revised with easier bounty requirements for more plentiful rewards, and the whole event will overlap with Double and Triple Valor periods to get more Masterwork Cores.

Festival of the Lost will also be handing out Powerful gear like candy corns. It offers a Horde-like PvE mode, a special quest-line to solve the murder of an old cryptarch, and a new type of currency (Fragmented Souls) that can be traded in for masks and a very thematic auto rifle called Horror Story. You can also earn Ephemeral Engrams with their own new rewards.

Bungie also recently announced plans to tweak the drop rates so you get duplicate Exotics less often. For some help finding gear in the meantime, check out where to find Xur and what he has in stock.

New Red Dead Redemption 2 Screenshots Show Off Gun Customization And Dead Eye System

By Kevin Knezevic on Oct 12, 2018 10:42 pm

With Red Dead Redemption 2's release date quickly approaching, Rockstar has shared some new details about its highly anticipated western game. In particular, the developer has provided closer look at weapon customization as well as the Dead Eye system, showcasing both features with a handful of beautiful new screenshots.

The first batch of screens, which you can see below, shows off some of the firearms you'll be able to wield in Red Dead Redemption 2. Rockstar says these are more than 50 weapons in the game, each of which can be customized not only in terms of its performance, but also its looks; you'll be able to upgrade your guns with new types of metal, engravings, and other components like barrels, grips, and sights.

As we recently learned, Red Dead Redemption 2 features weapon degradation, meaning your guns will eventually jam and misfire if you don't clean and take care of them regularly. Upgrading to a reinforced holster will also help prevent your gun from degrading, while opting for an off-hand holster will give you the ability to dual wield guns.

The second batch of new screenshots provide a better look at the improved Dead Eye system. This allows players to temporarily slow down time, making it easier to target enemies. Rockstar says the system "gradually expands and becomes more sophisticated over the course of the game," eventually allowing you to fire at multiple targets and even freely shoot in slow motion. You can check out those screenshots below.

Red Dead Redemption 2 launches for PS4 and Xbox One on October 26. The PS4 version will feature a handful of timed-exclusive content, which will debut on Sony's console 30 days early. The following month, Rockstar will release the game's online component, Red Dead Online, as a beta. We don't yet know what to expect from it, but the developer warns that players may experience some teething issues at launch. You can learn more about the title in our recent Red Dead Redemption 2 hands-on impressions.

Spider-Man: Far From Home On-Set Footage Reveals New-Look Spidey Suit

By Dan Auty on Oct 12, 2018 10:40 pm

Marvel's Spider-Man: Far From Home is next summer's much-anticipated sequel to the Marvel blockbuster Spider-Man: Homecoming, and it's currently in production. Following the on-set images of Jake Gyllenhall as the villainous Mysterio earlier this month, some new behind-the-scenes material from the New York set has emerged.

The footage shows Spidey doing what he does best--swinging around the city. Of most note, however, is his new-look suit. While there have been rumors that he might wear his iconic stealth suit from the comic books, this one seems to be a variation on his classic suit, but with black sections instead of the familiar blue, plus a cool white spider on the back. Check it out below:

Spider-Man: Far From Home hits theaters on July 5, 2019. Tom Holland is back as Peter Parker, and the cast also includes Michael Keaton, Zendaya, Marisa Tomei, Cobie Smulders, and Samuel L. Jackson. Homecoming's Jon Watts is returning as director.

While specific plot details are still under-wraps, we do know that the movie will start immediately after the events of Avengers 4, which arrives in May. Last year, Marvel boss Kevin Feige spoke about how the film will kickstart the next phase of the MCU. "So much happens in [the third and fourth Avengers movies], as you can imagine, and so much is affected by it, that we felt what better person to hold your hand and lead you into the next incarnation of the MCU, in a grounded, realistic manner, than Peter Parker?" Feige said. "So, coming out two months after Avengers 4, [that's what] much of what the next Spider-Man film will be about."

In related news, production has now wrapped on Avengers 4. Last week, Captain America star Chris Evans posted an emotional tweet, which suggests that this could be the last Marvel movie we see him in.

How To Download Fortnite Android, Which Is Now Open To All

By Kevin Knezevic on Oct 12, 2018 10:21 pm

Epic's hit battle royale game, Fortnite, made its long-awaited debut on Android earlier this summer, but up until now, it has only been available to users who received an invite for the beta. That has changed, and now all Android owners can download the Fortnite beta even without an invitation, provided they have a compatible device. Here's how you can jump in.

Unlike most other games available on Android, Fortnite can't be downloaded through the Google Play store. Epic had previously announced that it is bypassing Google's app store and offering the game to fans directly through its own website. If you want to download Fortnite on Android, all you'll need to do is go here on your phone and scan the QR code when prompted.

As previously noted, Fortnite won't be compatible with all Android devices. You'll need to have a "recent high-end Android smartphone" in order to run the game. Fortunately, there's a fairly long list of supported devices outlined here and on Epic's FAQ page, and even if you don't have one of the phones listed there, you may still be able to run the game if your device meets the following recommended minimum specs:

  • OS: Recommended Android 8.0 or higher, 64 bit
  • RAM: 3GB or higher (Recommended 4 GB)
  • GPU: Adreno 530 or higher, Mali-G71 MP20, Mali-G72 MP12 or higher

Part of the reason Epic is skipping Google Play with Fortnite's release is to bypass the 30% "store tax" applied to all purchases. The developer also says this move allows it to "bring its games directly to customers," but it isn't without some drawbacks. Namely, it leaves the game susceptible to security risks, while some Android apps that promise free V-Bucks and other cheats are actually phishing schemes.

Fortnite is currently in the third week of Season 6, bringing a new set of weekly challenges to complete across all platforms. You can find tips for all of the tasks available thus far in our Season 6 challenge roundup. Completing these earns you Battle Stars, which in turn levels up your Battle Pass and unlocks special cosmetic items and other rewards, such as the new Pets. You can everything that's up for grabs in our Season 6 rewards gallery.

Netflix's Daredevil Season 3: Release Date, Review, And Everything We Know So Far

By Meg Downey on Oct 12, 2018 10:15 pm

The third season of Netflix MCU darling Daredevil is on its way and bringing with it a whole slew of faces both old and new as Matt Murdock's story enters a new, brutal chapter. You can read all about it in our Daredevil Season 3 review.

Murdock's live action road has been anything but easy. He's had two solo seasons and a starring role in the Defenders, which teamed him up with his fellow Netflix heroes Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, and Danny Rand. During his time in the spotlight, Matt has faced off against the Kingpin of Crime, Wilson Fisk, Frank Castle aka The Punisher, ex-girlfriend Elektra, and shady occult syndicate The Hand. He's fallen out with his closest friends, Karen Page and Foggy Nelson. He's lost his law practice--hell, he may even legally be considered dead.

The end of Defenders left Matt in a bit of a tricky position. After he saved the world from the Black Sky and The Hand, an entire building was dropped on him, which left his entire team and all his friends assuming he hadn't survived the fight. Danny Rand loosely picked up the slack left in Hell's Kitchen in Matt's wake while everyone else grieved and moved on. Little did they know, however, that Matt had actually been rescued from the rubble and taken to a convent to be nursed back to health.

So, yeah. There's a lot going on. Daredevil's life has never been what you'd call easy, but coming into Season 3, he's playing a whole new ball game. But, at the very least, we do have some idea of what we should expect.

When is it coming out?

Daredevil Season 3's Netflix release date is October 19th. Like every other Netflix MCU show, Daredevil Season 3 will be primed for binge watching, so clear your schedules and get ready for a midnight sprint to the finish line.

Who are the villains?

We know that fan-favorite Wilson Fisk (Vincent D'onofrio) is making his return after spending Season 2 in jail, so expect a major showdown there. But we also know he won't be coming for Matt alone. At New York Comic Con, it was finally confirmed that Wilson Bethel would be playing Benjamin "Dex" Poindexter, AKA the infamous Bullseye, one of Daredevil's most lethal foes over in the comics.

Season 3 will be an origin story for Poindexter, Bethal said during the Daredevil panel, and feature his slow decline from FBI agent to full on super villain.

What is Fisk's plan?

After being sent away to jail by Daredevil in Season 1, Fisk is harboring a personal vendetta against everything Matt Murdock stands for. His plan in Season 3 is to ruin the Devil of Hell's Kitchen from the ground up by smearing his reputation and making the public see him as a murderer and a monster. To do this, as we've seen in the trailers, Fisk will be using Bullseye, dressed in a replica Daredevil costume, running around New York committing crimes.

Who is Sister Maggie?

Matt's life was saved by a mysterious nun we now know is Sister Maggie, played by Joanne Whalley. We know from the comics that Sister Maggie is actually Matt's long lost mother who divorced Matt's father and was taken in by the church, though it's not yet clear whether the show will keep her backstory the same. Maggie became a nun and lost all contact with her family, meaning we can expect she and Matt's reunion to be strained at best.

Where are Karen and Foggy?

They'll be here. Karen was featured in The Punisher Season 1, and has since been slowly convincing herself that maybe, possibly, Matt is alive. Foggy has been working for Jerry Hogarth and appeared in both Jessica Jones Season 2 and Luke Cage Season 2. He, however, is much less convinced than Karen that might might still be kicking around.

Where is Claire Temple?

Claire, sadly, will not be around. After a prominent feature in Luke Cage Season 2, Claire is taking a break from the complication of superhero life in New York City--and actor Rosario Dawson has no real plans to return to the MCU any time soon.

What about Frank Castle, Elektra, and the other Defenders?

Cameos from the other corners of the Netflix MCU are still up in the air, but probably unlikely. Elektra is still, officially, "dead" from the finale of Defenders--though she is known for her affinity for resurrection, so there's still a chance. Frank has had very little to do with any of the Defenders at all since his appearance in Daredevil Season 2, so he probably won't be coming back. Other cameos from Matt's superheroic teammates aren't entirely out of the realm of possibility--but we don't have much reason to hope for them right now.

What's going on with Matt, really?

After his near death experience, Matt isn't having a great time. Remember that aside from his super senses, Matt's still just a normal guy--this means no healing factor, no super strength, and no super speed. He's been hurt badly and is in the process of trying to recover. After (or, knowing Matt, during) that recovery process, he's going to go back to wearing his plain black suit and mask from Season 1--while Bullseye co-opts the red devil horns this time around.

Is it based on any comics?

From what we can tell, Daredevil Season 3 is going to be borrowing elements of the "Born Again" story arc which took place in the early '80s between Daredevil #227 and #233. It also looks like it's going to use some of the early Bullseye stories from issues like Daredevil #284 "The Outsider" and Daredevil #191 "Roulette."

Though, as with any MCU adaptation, these versions of comic book story lines are probably going to be heavily modified to work in the live-action universe--so don't expect a one-to-one translation.

PS4 Flash Sale Is Now Live On The PlayStation Store

By Chris Reed on Oct 12, 2018 09:46 pm

It's been a while since the last one, but this weekend Sony is running a flash sale on the PlayStation Store. That's in addition to the standard weekly sale that's also going on now (and the PS4 deals available elsewhere). These deals are available for everyone, regardless of whether you have a PS Plus account, so check out the list of discounts and see if you can find something you want. They go back to regular price on October 15.

On sale for $45 is Shadow of the Tomb Raider, Lara Croft's latest outing that emphasizes some of the best parts of the previous two entries--namely the combat and puzzle tombs, with adjustable difficulty settings for each. Racing game fans who wish they could play the Microsoft exclusive Forza Horizon 4 can pick up The Crew 2 for $36 this weekend instead. It lets you switch between land, air, and sea vehicles as you race across the US.

Assassin's Creed Odyssey might be all the rage right now, but you'll probably want to play through Assassin's Creed Origins ($30) first. That way you'll see the beginning of the present-day story line that continues in Odyssey. And a pair of boundary-pushing RPGs are also on sale, with South Park: The Stick of Truth ($15) and South Park: The Fractured but Whole ($21).

It's not just blockbuster games that are on sale in this weekend's PS4 flash sale, either--some excellent smaller titles are also represented. You can pick up Donut County for $10 if controlling an all-consuming hole sounds appealing. Dead Cells is a stylish roguelike side-scroller that's on sale for $20. And if you want to put your platforming skills to the test, try Guacamelee 2, which is currently down to $16.

You'll find more of our picks below, or you can feast your eyes on the full set of flash sale discounts here.

The World Ends With You Is Not Its Best On The Switch, But You Should Still Play It

By Randolph Ramsay on Oct 12, 2018 09:45 pm

The Nintendo Switch library, that increasingly comprehensive repository of the gaming hits of yesteryear repackaged in shiny new forms, added another classic to its arsenal this week with the re-release of The World Ends With You. This latest version of one of Square Enix's best RPGs comes with motion controls, a two-player co-op mode, and a brand new story scenario, but unfortunately, nearly everything that makes this experience unique to the Switch is either unnecessary at best or poor at worst.

You can read more about our thoughts on the game when it was released in our original review, but as this Switch port is essentially the souped-up version of the game's mobile release, it doesn't include any of the original's innovative dual-screen combat mechanics. While the original had you controlling two characters simultaneously across the DS' screens (a real mindf***, but amazing when it finally clicked), the Switch version reduces that to one character, with the second essentially becoming another weapon in your arsenal.

In theory, because of the way attacks are performed using the Switch's touchscreen, that brain breaking capability the DS version had is still present as you juggle multiple weapons (including your partner) to string attacks. Weapons and abilities--called pins in the game--require different movements such as quick slashes, taps, directional swipes, and more, to activate. And in practice, frenetic slashing and tapping on the Switch's screen seems to work just as well.

What doesn't work well, however, is the Switch's Joy-Con motion controls (there is no option for a standard control scheme). Those same slashes, swipes, and swirls that you could easily pull off using the touchscreen can be executed by hand movements with the Joy-Con in your grip. As you'd expect, controlling The World Ends With You in this way is imprecise, with commands you feel like you're inputting not being recognized and others you sure you're not performing getting executed. For a game where battles can involve the use of multiple weapons against half a dozen foes or more, this inconsistency is frustrating, making The World Ends With You really only appealing to play while you have your Switch undocked. If you do decide to play with Joy-Cons, the game also allows a friend to take over control of your in-game partner during battles. But again, those same loose controls hinder the combat experience, meaning it's not a mode you're likely to come back to very often.

That's not to say, however, that The World Ends With You on the Switch is a misfire. On the contrary; for a game that was released more than 10 years ago on the DS that has teenagers using cutting-edge tech like flip phones, the game still feels remarkably relevant and exciting, featuring one of the best narratives in games. For those who have never experienced it before, The World Ends With You is set in an alternate version of Tokyo's hip shopping district of Shibuya, where recently deceased teenagers work as teams to complete a series of challenges in order to get a chance at coming back to life. At times dark but always hopeful, The World Ends With You has a gripping narrative whose themes of identity, independence, and our value to each other still resonate strongly today. It also helps that the game's art style and presentation generally hold up, and it doesn't hurt that The World Ends With You still has one of the best game soundtracks ever (no arguments please).

So ignore those Joy-Con controls. Ignore the two-player mode if you wish. The World Ends With You may not be showing its best form with this Switch version, but it's still the same core experience at heart. And that makes it worthwhile playing for the first time, again.

Red Dead Redemption 2 Weapon Customization Detailed

By Steve Watts on Oct 12, 2018 09:44 pm

Red Dead Redemption 2 looks to be a shockingly precise cowboy simulator, right down to some survivalist mechanics like hunting and dressing appropriately. All a real frontiersman needs is a horse and a trusty rifle, and Rockstar has taken the wraps off of your weapon selection in the upcoming game.

According to the official site, RDR2 has more than 50 weapons, each with customization options and ammo types to help determine stats like accuracy, range, and damage. Weapons will level up the more you use them, and they'll need to be kept oiled and cleaned to stave off degradation. You can customize with barrels, grips, sights, and scopes for performance, along with visual flourishes like selecting your metals, woods, varnishes, and engravings.

The visual elements like metals and engravings can be customizable per component of your gun, and you can pick a different engraving on your trigger guard, barrel, and frame for a truly unique look. Ammo types like split point, high velocity, and explosive can be used in a pinch for tougher enemies. A good holster will help prevent weapon degredation, while off-hand holsters let you dual wield your weapons. Finally, your horse's saddle will store your weapons, so you'll have to select which weapons to take on your person when you tie up your horse.

No Caption Provided
Gallery image 1Gallery image 2Gallery image 3Gallery image 4Gallery image 5Gallery image 6Gallery image 7Gallery image 8

Rockstar cites a handful of examples of how various weapons can deal with different situations. The Bolt-Action Rifle is best for long-range combat against multiple targets, while the Pump-Action Shotgun is best suited for close combat against hearty wild beasts. A Double-Action Revolver works well if shooting from horseback, while a Sawed-Off Shotgun is better if you're limited to one hand while the other carries a lantern. The Varmint Rifle is best for small game since it will do the least damage to their skin and meat. And the Springfield Rifle is ideal for one-on-one confrontations at mid-range. And those are just a few of the examples.

The new Dead-Eye system helps you make the most out of every shot, and progresses to become more powerful over the course of the game. It will let you auto-select targets, manually place multiple shots on the same enemy, fire in slow motion, or pinpoint weak spots on enemies.

Red Dead Redemption 2 hits on October 26. Check out some of the most surprising details we know about so far while we wait to explore the Old West.

Skull Trooper, Fortnite's Popular Skin, Hits The Item Shop Alongside New Challenges

By Tamoor Hussain on Oct 12, 2018 09:39 pm

Update: Epic has recognized that there was some confusion surrounding Fortnite's new Back Bling challenges. In a post on Reddit, it explained that some changes will be forthcoming in the 6.10 update launching next week, adding, "The goal with the Ghost Portal challenges was to provide you with a way to earn a cool Back Bling through your normal play."

In the meantime, a Skull Trooper event has kicked off that makes the new cosmetic easier to get. From now until Sunday, October 14, at 8:59 PM PT / 11:59 PM ET (4:59 AM BST), you'll be able to earn the Back Bling by playing in 20 matches. However, you'll need to own or buy the Skull Trooper outfit on the item shop to qualify for this event. If you go this route, the challenges will complete automatically and award you the Back Bling next week, presumably once the patch arrives. The original story follows.

Alongside Fortnite's 6.02 update, developer Epic Games has dropped in a few new cosmetics to the game's shop, and some accompanying challenges that will unlock a special Back Bling. On the skin side, it's a popular returning outfit that comes just in time for Halloween season.

The in-game shop now has the Skull Trooper (Male) and Skull Ranger (Female) skins. The former is 1500 V-Bucks, while the latter is 1200 V-Bucks. The Skull Trooper is a returning skin, except this time it can be customized to have a white or green. Those that already had the Skull Trooper skin can also pick a purple look. The Skull Ranger, meanwhile, is completely new.

On top of those to there's the Skull Sickle Harvesting Tool, which will set you back 1200 V-Bucks, and the Crypt Cruiser Epic Glider for 1200 V-Bucks. However, if you want that Ghost Portal Back Bling you'll have to do five challenges. In the tweet below you can see a character outfitted with all the new goodies. Notice that the new Back Bling emits ghostly apparitions of other skins, which is pretty cool.

Although the challenges for the Back Bling are going to be quite a time investment, you'll also get some experience points and Battle Stars along the way. You can see the challenges, as well as the new cosmetics, below. These are separate from the standard Week 3 challenges, which include one that has you complete timed trials.

Skull Trooper Challenges

  • Complete 7 Daily Challenges (7)
  • Play Matches (50)
  • Play matches with at least one elimination (14)
  • Search 10 chests in a single match (10)
  • Deal damage to opponents in a single match (1000)

These won't be the only new challenges for the week, as the usual weekly set is expected to arrive tomorrow, October 11. While we'll have to wait until then to see exactly what players will need to do to get their hands on the Battle Stars, leaks have provided some indication of what the challenges may be.

Fortnite Update 6.02, meanwhile, adds a new Limited-Time Mode called Disco Domination to the game. In this, players travel to dance floors around the map and then, as you can probably guess, dance. This raises a disco ball over the dance floor, which, when it reaches the top, indicates a floor has been captured. In turn a progress bar appears and the first team to reach 100 percent capture stat on this bar wins. You can find out more about Disco Domination, as well as the new Quad Launcher weapon, in the Fortnite 6.02 patch notes.

Fortnite's Ghost Portal Back Bling Is Easier To Get For A Little While

By Tamoor Hussain on Oct 12, 2018 09:26 pm

As part of a recent update Fortnite developer Epic Games introduced Halloween-themed cosmetics to unlock. The coolest among them is the Ghost Portal Back Bling, which emits ghostly apparitions when equipped. However, players complained that unlocking it was too difficult and, in response, Epic has made it easier for a limited time.

As detailed on the Fortnite subreddit and on Twitter, from October 12 at 10 AM ET / 3 PM BST / 7 AM PT until October 14 at 11:59 PM ET / 4:59 PM BST / 8:59 PT, simply playing 20 matches is enough to get the cosmetic. You don't have to win, as merely taking part in 20 matches is enough, and next week the challenges attached to the Back Bling will auto-complete and the item will unlock. However, this is only available if you already own (or purchase) the Skull Trooper skin.

The original method required players to complete the Skull Trooper Challenges, which involved finishing seven of the Daily Challenges, playing 50 matches, getting at least one elimination in 14 matches, searching 10 chests in a single match, and dealing 1,000 damage to an enemy in a single match. Understandably, people felt that this was asking a lot.

In addition to the Ghost Portal Back Bling, Fortnite's in-game shop now has the Skull Trooper (Male) and Skull Ranger (Female) skins. The former is a returning skin that has been much requested. It costs 1500 V-Bucks and has color customization options. The latter, meanwhile, is a new skin for the female character model and is available for 1200 V-Bucks. The Skull Sickle Harvesting Tool will set you back 1200 V-Bucks and the Crypt Cruiser Epic Glider is priced at 1200 V-Bucks. You can see all these cosmetics here.

Epic Games has revealed a new vehicle coming to Fortnite soon. The Quadcrasher is described as being useful for players who want to "charge the boost to crash through structures or get some air," which we imagine is pretty much everyone.

Fortnite's Season 6, Week 3 challenges have unlocked and you can use our breakdown to see what they are. The most difficult among them involves completing time trials, but we've done the legwork to find the trials so you don't have to. Check out our time trial location guide for all that information. Fortnite is now in open beta on Android, which means you can download it without an invite, however you'll need to go through Epic to get it.

What Are Fortnite Challenges For Week 3? Timed Trials, Hit Player With A Tomato (Season 6)

By Tamoor Hussain on Oct 12, 2018 09:17 pm

Fortnite: Battle Royale's challenges for Week 3 of Season 6 are now available, which means it's time to get back on the grind and get those precious Battle Stars. Here's what's on tap for this week if you're interested in quickly leveling up your Battle Pass.

In the free to everyone section, this week's challenges involve reviving a player in five different matches, getting one Damage Trap elimination, and starting the multi-stage challenge by searching a chest in Lonely Lodge. That's all self-explanatory, though the Damage Trap elimination may take some perseverance.

In the paid Battle Pass section, there's some trickier ones, the first of which is a multi-stage challenge that begins with visiting Risky Reels and Wailing Woods in a single match. On top of that you'll need to hit a player with a Tomato from 15m or more away, eliminate an opponent in 10 different matches, and complete timed trials. Take a look at all the challenges for Season 6, Week 3 at the bottom of this story.

No Caption Provided

As a refresher, completing these challenges reward you with Battle Stars which, in turn, level up your Battle Pass and allow you to unlock the sweet, sweet cosmetics for your character. Challenges are available in two sets, with one for all players to do and another just for those that have paid for a Battle Pass.

These aren't the only challenges that are available to do this week, as developer Epic Games has also rolled out a set of Halloween-themed unlocks to acquire. While the Skull Trooper (Male), Skull Ranger (Female) skin, Skull Sickle Harvesting Tool, and Crypt Cruiser Glider are available to purchase in store, in order to get the Ghost Portal Back Bling you'll need to complete the Skull Trooper Challenges.

It's been a busy week for Fortnite as, along with the two sets of challenges, Epic has also launched Fortnite Update 6.02. This new patch introduces a Limited-Time Mode called Disco Domination as well as the new Quad Launcher weapon. You can read all about those, as well as the other tweaks and changes made, in the Fortnite 6.02 patch notes.
