Sony's Black Friday sale is now live on the PlayStation Store, dropping prices on over 100 popular PS4 games. The sale runs between now and November 27 at 8 AM PT (11 AM ET). So if you see something you want, grab it before then. But before you finalize your purchase, you might want to check our Black Friday PS4 coverage to see if you'll be able to get a better price somewhere else in the coming days (though it might be on a physical copy). Without further ado, let's see what's on sale.
First off, a couple of key the PlayStation services have gotten temporary price cuts. A 12-month PlayStation Plus subscription, which lets you take your console online and also gets you free games each month, is on sale for $40 right now. Also, a year's subscription to PlayStation Now, a service that lets you download or stream over 650 games, is on sale for $80.
Anyone with a PlayStation VR headset (or anyone who's planning to pick one up at a Black Friday sale price) can grab the online team shooter Firewall: Zero Hour for $30, the surreal puzzle adventure Torn for $21, or the boxing game Creed: Rise To Glory for $15.
You'll find a lot more games on sale below, or you can check out the full list, which includes DLC, virtual currency, and special editions, here.
Marvel's Spider-Man is a critical and commercial success, but if you were holding out to web up a Spidey discount, today is your day. As part of Ebay's ongoing pre-Black Friday sales, you can get the swinging superhero for $40--the lowest price we've seen from the coming sales season.
Like many of Ebay's sale items, this is likely limited by time and supply. You can pick it up at the sale price here. You may have to wait a bit for delivery, though; as of time of writing, delivery is estimated December 5-10. This joins Ebay's line-up of "Better Than Black Friday" deals, which includes discounts on other recent games like Red Dead Redemption 2 and Black Ops 4.
Insomniac and Sony just detailed the second DLC pack Turf Wars, part of the ongoing serialized story The City That Never Sleeps. It's set to drop next week, on November 20, with new story missions, sidequests, and of course, Spidey suits.
"The feeling of embodying Spidey and using his abilities is astonishing, and the time spent on exploring its major characters help make its story feel heartfelt, despite superhero bombast," critic Edmond Tran said in GameSpot's Spider-Man review. "There have been open-world Spider-Man games before, but none so riveting and full of personality, none that explore and do justice to this many facets of the universe."
Survivor Series is one of the "Big Four" original WWE pay-per-views, along with the Royal Rumble, Wrestlemania, and Summerslam; the first edition of the show was in 1987, and the latest edition, which will air live on the WWE Network on November 18, will be the 32nd iteration of the event.
But despite its longevity, Survivor Series is the least prestigious of the four original events. January's Royal Rumble is the beginning of the Road to Wrestlemania. April's Wrestlemania, of course, is the end of that road. August's SummerSlam is the anti-Wrestlemania, where the narrative turns and the heroes often lose, so they can triumph in April.
That leaves November's Survivor Series, which is right in the middle of company's narrative dead zone, before things pick up at the beginning of the new year, and when WWE is competing against the NFL for viewers.
So compared to Wrestlemania, there aren't a lot of big moments at Survivor Series. But when there is a moment, it's inevitably a massive one. It needs to be to stand out and pull people away from football and the holiday season.
Here are the 10 most shocking moments in Survivor Series history. If you liked this, check out the match card for this year's Survivor Series. And check in with Gamespot on Sunday, November 18, when we will cover the entire event live.
10. The Undertaker Returns (2005)
The Dead Man is famous for his effects-heavy returns. This has been especially true in recent years; because he works an increasingly sporadic schedule, his rare appearances are even more special. At Wrestlemania 34, for example, his entrance had everything: lasers, flames, smoke, and lightning effects galore.
This particular return at Survivor Series, in 2005, was lower budget, but no less effective. Undertaker emerged from a flaming casket to clean house, stare down Randy Orton, and close the PPV. Orton was an excellent juxtaposition to the Dead Man: a youthful, arrogant jerk versus a grizzled experienced warrior. And the terrified look on Orton's face told everyone that the Legend Killer was way in over his head.
9. The Shield Debuts (2012)
The Shield, comprised of Dean Ambrose, Seth Rollins, and Roman Reigns, was originally a mercenary-for-hire group that protected CM Punk. They made their debut at Survivor Series, when they interfered in a triple threat between John Cena, Ryback, and Punk. There were no combat vests or 2-way radio intros yet. But the chemistry and the brutality were already there, and we watched three future world champions began their ascent.
8. Bob Backlund Wins the WWE Championship (1994)
When Bob Backlund returned to WWE in the mid-90s, he was a bit of novelty. He had the misfortune of being WWE's top guy right before the company went national, and thus, benefitted little from WWE's commercial explosion of the late 80s. He was older with an unsculpted body. So it was an utter shock when Backlund won the WWE Championship at Survivor Series, after Bret Hart's mother threw in the towel for her son.
Unfortunately for Backlund, his return to the spotlight didn't last long. Three days later at Madison Square Garden, Backlund lost the title to Diesel. He got gut-kicked, Jackknifed, and pinned in eight seconds.
7. The Rock Goes Corporate (1998)
The Rock had gone through different character phases: first as a pure goofy babyface Rocky Maivia, then as a Nation of Domination heel, and then as a trash talking jock babyface who called himself the People's Champion.
But then at Survivor Series he hugged Shane McMahon and Vince McMahon in the ring and allied himself with the Authority. It felt like a slap in the face that the guy who mocked authority was now taking orders from it. For over a year, he was the Corporate Champion. He developed a vindictive cruel streak, most memorably during his months-long feud with Mankind.
6. Goldberg Squashes Brock Lesnar (2016)
The first time these two men fought each other was at Wrestlemania XX; the match was terrible and the crowd booed both men, who were leaving WWE to pursue other professional opportunities.
Years later, at Survivor Series (2016), Lesnar and Goldberg had their rematch, which was cross-promoted with WWE 2K17's "Suplex City" marketing campaign. But shockingly, Goldberg won in less than a minute-and-a-half after dominating his opponent.
For years, Lesnar was built up as an unbeatable threat. He dominated Cena at Summerslam (2014). He handed Undertaker his first Wrestlemania loss at Wrestlemania XXX. But this Survivor Series match was proof that the Beast could actually be beaten.
5. Sting Debuts (2014)
For years, long after his WCW colleagues signed contracts with WWE, Sting remained unsigned. And it was getting to the point where fans assumed he would never make the jump. He would the one guy in the industry who could turn down Vince McMahon.
But at Survivor Series in 2014, Sting got involved in the final match of the night between Team Cena and Team Authority, setting up a Wrestlemania feud between himself and Triple H. For the fans in attendance and watching on television, the mere novelty of seeing Sting on WWE programming was shocking enough.
4. Austin Uses a Forklift To Dump Triple H (2000)
Sometimes, the wrestlers take themselves a little too seriously. They might try to murder each other (kayfabe, of course.) And one of the more explicit murder attempts came at Survivor Series, when "Stone Cold" Steve Austin hoisted Triple H's car into the air upside down, and then dropped it directly on its hood, apparently crushing The Game inside. It makes Braun Strowman's ambulance-tipping antics look like patty cakes.
The real reason why this happened was that Austin needed time off to treat his neck; it had gotten progressively worse ever since Owen Hart botched his piledriver against Austin at Summerslam (1997). The injury, and subsequent neck fusion, would lead to Austin's early retirement.
2. The Undertaker Debuts (1990)
When the Undertaker debuted, it was as the final member of Ted Dibiase's Survivor Series team. Back then, he was accompanied by Brother Love rather than Paul Bearer. And though he seemed spooky and haunted, he was not the magic conjuring, lightning shooting Phenom that we know and love today.
This moment proved the value of commentators. They cannot make a bad match into a good one, but they can elevate a good match into a great one. That night, "Rowdy" Roddy Piper was in the booth, and he had the best line: "LOOK AT THE SIZE OF THAT HAM HOCK!" That, combined with the low angle shots and the reactions of frightened children, made this debut a particularly memorable, shocking moment.
1. The Montreal Screwjob (1997)
There's no surprise pick for number 1. Of course, the Montreal Screwjob is the most shocking thing to ever happen at Survivor Series. It's one of the most shocking things to ever happen in WWE, period, and it changed the industry forever.
It's a long and oft-told story. But here's a Cliffs Notes version.
Bret Hart was WWE champion, and he was planning quit and go to WCW to make more money. Conventionally, the champion should lose to his opponent and drop the belt before heading to the other company. But Bret, who hated his Survivor Series opponent Shawn Michaels, didn't want to lose to him, let alone be stripped of the title in his home country of Canada..
So Vince McMahon took matters into his own hands. He worked out a secret plan in which Shawn would put Bret in the Sharpshooter, and the referee would pretend to see Bret submit and call for the bell. Shawn would win the title, and Bret would be taken completely off guard.
The plan worked, but not without its complications. Bret got so legitly mad that he spit in Vince's face by ringside and punched him out backstage. And the fans turned on Vince so drastically, that he decided to go along with it and became the evil heel character Mr. McMahon. The Montreal Screwjob kicked off a Renaissance period for WWE, even though no one involved it yet. For one night, wrestling was as real as it could possibly be.
From the opening scenes, you know exactly where Creed II is headed. Creed II is to the original Creed what Rocky II was to the movie that started it all: Adonis Creed starts out on top of the world, which means he has nowhere to go but down. He'll hit rock bottom, linger there for a while, then drag himself back up for a triumphant return. That's the basic outline of Creed II. It's intimately familiar, and it's so well executed that you won't mind the story's inevitability.
That isn't to say there are no surprises. The story of Michael B. Jordan's Adonis Creed, son of Apollo Creed, parallels that of his predecessors, but it's not a simple cut and paste. Rocky Balboa (Sylvester Stallone) has his own arc in this film, while Bianca (the incredibly talented Tessa Thompson) really comes into her own as a character. Maybe most surprising of all is the journey of Ivan Drago, returning villain from Rocky IV, played once again by the great Dolph Lundgren.
Like the original Creed, Creed II is about legacy. Adonis can't escape the past, and he has the extra burden of carrying Rocky's legacy in addition to his own father's. Back in 1985, in Rocky IV, Rocky defeated Ivan Drago after Drago killed Apollo Creed in the ring. Now Drago, disgraced for decades in his home country, returns with a son who's been training his whole life for this moment. They throw down the gauntlet in Philadelphia, and Adonis has no choice but to accept.
At least, that's how he sees it. But Creed II moves past the simple theme of legacy when Rocky asks Adonis, "Why do you need to fight this fight?" Why does Adonis accept that his father's and his mentor's problems are now his problems? What does he actually want?
As in the last movie, Jordan brings a huge amount of depth to the character. It wouldn't be a Rocky movie without some training montages, and Creed II has some really creative ones. More importantly, Jordan absolutely sells how hard the character pushes himself. And Adonis doesn't take defeat lightly. Rock bottom really looks grim for him, thanks to Jordan's vulnerable, emotional performance. And his physical condition is staggeringly impressive--the amount of training that must have gone into making his body look like this is hard to imagine.
As Adonis's partner Bianca, Thompson proves in Creed II that she can bring a unique presence to any role. As essentially a supporting character for Adonis, Bianca might have felt like a second stringer in another actress's hands, but Thompson steals the show more than once. As the viewer, you believe that Adonis would collapse without her support in their personal life. She's his foundation. And Stallone is still Stallone--capable of expressing a surprising amount of emotion for a guy whose face looks like that. He may actually have become a better actor in his advanced years.
And then there's Lundgren. Like Rocky, Ivan Drago is well past his fighting years--although unlike Rocky, Drago still cuts a physically intimidating figure. His son Viktor (Florian Munteanu) is a monster of a man who spends most of the movie yelling and throwing punches that look like they could break through a brick wall. But the elder Drago is such an impressive presence--especially next to the clearly exhausted Stallone--that you feel genuinely scared for Rocky during an early confrontation when it seems like the two old rivals might come to blows.
Creed II accomplishes something incredible when it humanizes Drago. Yes, he's still the bad guy of the story, but he's not a villain. He's an ex-boxer who's essentially been in exile; disgraced at home, abandoned by family and country. Drago's path, much like Adonis's, was inevitable. And Creed II spends enough time with Ivan and Viktor that you truly start to feel for them. Training montages flip back and forth between Adonis's cushy apartment, beautiful girlfriend, and fancy gyms, and Ivan and Viktor's dingy home, ratty facilities, and generally lonely life. Both sets of characters are just doing what they have to do to improve their lot.
Creed II's fights, the main event, are breathtakingly personal. Adonis and Viktor make every punch look and feel real. The camera often stays uncomfortably close, making excellent use of a first person perspective to make you feel like you're literally in the fight, taking those hits along with the characters. The blood, sweat, and tears feel so immediate that you'll forget about caring whether you think you know what the outcome is going to be. Jordan and Thompson invest so much emotion that you can't help but feel along with them.
Creed II comes with a different director--Steven Caple Jr. replaces Ryan Coogler--but it nearly matches the original Creed in quality. It's Rocky sequel comfort food: exactly what you want, executed with amazing finesse. The only question left is where the series will go from here, as Adonis Creed now has his own legacy to maintain.
The Good
The Bad
Emotional performances, especially from Jordan and Thompson
The time has finally come for a new Fallout game. Like previous entries, Fallout 76 is a massive game filled to the brim with RPG systems and mechanical details many of which aren't explained in detail. Add that on top of the new multiplayer functionality and it's more than likely you've got some questions that need answers to. Fortunately, we're here to help with our collective knowledge having each played the game for a couple dozen hours.
Many of the series' classic idiosyncrasies remain in Fallout 76. You'll wander the land, gather resources, craft items, kill a super mutant or two, and get involved in all sorts of questlines. In this feature, we go over tips you should know about the game's survival and progression systems, as well as call out important details to keep at the forefront of your mind as you play--whether it's taking time to build up your C.A.M.P. or pilfering whatever Power Armor you see.
If you're keen for a more basic rundown of what to expect when you first jump into the game, be sure to check out our Fallout 76 survival guide. In that feature, we offer recommendations of cool places to check out, as well as a few beginner's tips.
Fallout 76 is out now on PS4, Xbox One, and PC. Since its servers have only just gone live, we've only begun the review process, but be on the lookout for our full thoughts in the days ahead! We've also got a bevy of other guides coming too. Expect details on where to find all the Power Armor, as well as specific on where you can find Vaults. If you've still got questions about how Fallout 76 plays, be sure to check out our feature highlighting everything you need to know about the game.
In the meantime, what are some of the craziest discoveries you've made in Fallout 76? Got any useful tips to offer, too? Let us know in the comments below.
Tackle the Main Story Early On
Once you leave Vault 76, you are free to go anywhere you want. But don't let that freedom go to your head, as you most definitely lack the resources needed to survive. If you're not careful, you're likely to end up somewhere high leveled and dangerous. We strongly recommend at least doing the first couple quests in the main story, which act as an extended tutorial and also provide you with a ton of important supplies and blueprints. The story missions in the Overseer's Camp, the town of Flatwoods, and the Morgantown Airport teach you about workbenches, diseases, and how your C.A.M.P. works. You also gain a ton of basic weapons, ammo, aid supplies, recipes, and plans for building. After Morgantown, you'll be in much better shape to start exploring freely. Keep in mind that the main story is in general a great way to get new stuff and learn the game, so it's a good idea to hop back in and do it every once in a while.
Use the C.A.M.P
The C.A.M.P. is a new feature in Fallout 76 that acts as your own personal base that you can use to rest, repair equipment, and eventually build your own home. Because it's technically a camp, that means you can move it to anywhere you want on the map--for a small fee, of course. But don't fret, as stuff you've already crafted is stored and can be replaced at no cost, so you only have to worry about building something like a workbench once.
Traveling to your C.A.M.P. is always free, so try to place it strategically. That means putting it near resources, existing crafting benches, and water until you have unlocked crafting stations and water purifiers to do the work for you. Even if you aren't interested in building up your C.A.M.P., it's worth creating a basic one that has all the stuff you need, like a cooking station, workbenches, and a stash.
It's also worth noting that you can't just set up your C.A.M.P. anywhere you please. It needs to be in a location that isn't named. In addition, if you want to preserve your stuff from the elements, make sure to store your stuff in your Stash (more on that in the slide ahead) before leaving. There's a lot to the C.A.M.P., so be sure to check out our separate video that goes over all the nitty-gritty details.
Build a Stash
Like previous Fallout games, your character's inventory limit is going to be a consistent obstacle, because when you're carrying too much stuff, your Action Points are sapped just from moving around--compared to past games where you just became incredibly slow. Because of this, your Stash at homebase is one of your most valuable assets. Always have a Stash in your camp and use it store stuff to make space for yourself. Only you can access your Stash, so anything you place in there is safe from the hands of unfriendly players. You'll notice other Stash boxes throughout the world and in other people's camps, but using them will only access your Stash and not anybody else's. If you're far away from your camp and need to know where to look for a Stash, there will usually be one at a Train Station or Red Rocket.
Always throw whatever junk you've picked up into your Stash; there's actually a command that instantly offloads all your junk in the Stash menu. Once all your junk is in your Stash, you have access to all of it at any workbench for crafting, so you don't need to worry about carrying it around everywhere you go. Do keep in mind that the Stash does have an item limit. It's not possible to build a second one, so eventually you're gonna have to start getting rid of stuff. You can't put off Spring cleaning--not even in Fallout 76!
Repairing Weapons and Armor is Different!
Weapon and armor conditions return for Fallout 76 after having been absent from Fallout 4. However, unlike Fallout 3 and New Vegas, where you could use another weapon or armor of the same type to improve the first's condition, you need specific junk to repair your gear in Fallout 76--much like how you upgrade mods. If you're missing materials, you can tag them for search just like in Fallout 4 to help you find what you need when scavenging. While armor takes a little time to bust, weapons can degrade rather quickly, so make sure to keep an eye on them--lest they break in the middle of combat.
Beware of Diseases
One of the newest additions to Fallout 76 are diseases, and they can really harm you if you're not careful. You can get them from pretty much anything. The obvious comes from enemies labeled as "diseased," such as a Diseased Radroach, which can easily infect you by simply touching you. When you see an enemy marked as "diseased," it's always best shoot them from a distance.
You wouldn't think it, but beds have a high chance of giving you disease, specifically any bedding that's not raised off the ground. You also also catch diseases from eating rotten or raw food, swimming in water, or even just walking in certain areas that contain airborne diseases. That last one can be avoided by wearing certain equipment, like Hazmat or Space Suits, or Gas Masks like the Fire Breather Helmet.
If you're unfortunate enough to catch a disease, your options are to either to wait it out, or cure it with medicine. Waiting for a disease to go away on its own can take anywhere from 30 minutes to an hour depending on the disease. Curing a disease is obviously the prefered method, but Cure Disease (actually what the item is called) can be tough to find. Alternatively, if you're in a real pinch, you can set up your camp and wait to die and then respawn, which will cure your disease.
Pilfer Power Armor
Power Armor is high-level equipment that comes in handy later on. But in your early runnings, you'll come across plenty of Power Armor chassis out in the world, but they'll only have a few pieces of armor on them. These pieces are usually around level 40, so you can't even use them most of the time. But don't ignore these just because you're at a low level, as you can still take advantage of them. Remove all the armor pieces attached to the Power Armor, and if you have the space, bring them with you to store in your Stash. After that, hop into the Power Armor chassis, as even without any armor plates attached, it'll give a defense bonus and a boost to your carrying capacity.
It's worth noting that once you hop into a Power Armor chassis, it's yours, which means you can store it in your inventory or place it in your Stash. Taking the time to scavenge Power Armor pieces early on will put you in a better place when you reach the appropriate level to actually use fully decked-out Power Armor.
Pay Attention To The Verdant Season
Regions will gain what the game calls a "verdant season" where resources like plants will be more abundant. It cycles through different regions, so pay attention to the tip messages on the right of the screen so you know where to visit if you want to collect extra resources. Pay special attention for ingredients needed to cure diseases such as blood leaf, which is found near streams.
You Can Change Your Look At Any Time
If you're you're the type to spend an hour or two in the game's character creator, know that you're not locked into your choices after you confirm your appearance. Unlike previous games, Fallout 76 lets you change your appearance at any time. Simply bring up the map, tap R1 or RB to access the menu, and choose the "Change Appearance" option. Resort to this if you're in a rush to play the game and want to think about your looks later.
Don't Forget To Unlock Plans And Recipes In Your Inventory
Crafting is an important part of the Fallout experience. After all, if you're going to survive out in the Wasteland, you'll need to leverage all that useless junk you grab into functional items. As you explore, you will find new plans and recipes that'll expand your repertoire of craftable items. You might think these will get added to the workbench recipe list upon picking them up, but you'd be mistaken. To unlock them in your crafting list, simply pull up your Pipboy and confirm them in the Notes section of your inventory.
Make It A Point To Scavenge Bobby Pins And Radaway
Classic necessities from previous games, like Bobby Pins and Radaway, are much harder to come by in Fallout 76. Make it a point to investigate every nook and cranny of an environment, as these items are often tucked away in the most unexpected places. And if you've got enough money or resources, make sure to stock up by buying, trading, or crafting them. Work at it enough and before long these won't be so hard to keep in constant supply.
Interact With Others!
Fallout 76 is a multiplayer game so interacting with other players is major component. But you must be wondering: "What's possible?" First off, there is in-game voice chat that's area-based, letting you hear people close by. Direct communication is a useful tool for asking players if they want to trade or help you out. If you don't want to to hear other players you can always turn this off in the audio settings, and it's still possible to communicate with visual emotes.
Trading with other players is as simple as walking up to them and pressing a button. You can get a full look at someone's inventory and request specific items you're interested in. Of course, there's also PVP. You can't attack or be attacked by other players until you're level 5, which is meant to prevent spawn camping outside Vault 76 and killing all the newcomers. Once you can attack others, you'll notice that when you first start shooting players, you will actually be inflicting a reduced amount of damage. Again, this is meant to prevent random people from just killing you, or you from killing them. If the other player attacks back, the two of you have officially engaged in combat with the damage safety turned off.
While it's difficult, it's possible to kill a player who isn't fighting back, but doing so is considered murder. That puts a bounty on your head and replaces your icon on the map with a bright shiny red star, letting everyone know where you are. Any player can then murder you and be rewarded with a bounty of caps, which comes out of your personal supply. You'll get some rewards from the bodies of dead players, but looting them isn't gonna score you their armor or weapons. Instead, you only get their junk and crafting supplies. While this may not seem like much, scoring a large supply of junk can be a nice boost for you, while losing a lot of junk you just spent the last hour collecting can be pretty devastating. Luckily, your dead body will be marked on the map, so you can recover your stuff regardless of what killed you.
When an encounter stops being fun and games, you can block a player by finding them on the social menu and then flagging them.
How Parties Work And Some Useful Tips
Teaming up as party comes with its own benefits. Party members can share Perks with each other (more on Perks later), as long as your Charisma stat is three times the rank of the Perk. It's best to work together with your party and figure out which perks to share to maximize the benefits of the group.
When you're in a group, the questline the party leader has active is shared with the whole party, and completing the quest gives everyone the reward--even if party members have already beaten that specific quest.
Party members can also fast travel to each other without needing to pay caps. You aren't tethered to each other, so you're free to split up and travel separately and then rejoin as a group whenever you want. In fact, if you're friends with someone and in the same server, you can fast travel to them for free even if you aren't in a party together. If you have a large group that needs to be broken up into multiple teams, this is a great way to stick together and form a supergroup.
Good Perk Cards To Get
Fallout 76's new leveling system is quite a bit different from previous games. This time it's based around Perk cards. Every time you level up, you can put a point into one of the seven S.P.E.C.I.A.L. skills that make up your character's stats, and then pick a card to equip for the skill. The number of points you have in that skill determines how many cards you can have. For example, if you have four points in a particular skill, you can unlock four Rank 1 cards, or two Rank 2 cards, or one Rank 3 card and one Rank 1 card. A Perk card always starts at Rank 1. If you want to upgrade its rank, you need to combine it with duplicates of the same card.
There are dozens of Perk cards, many of which we've yet to find. You generally earn them by leveling up, opening up Perk card packs, or by completing challenges. Below is a rundown of which cards you should look out for.
As you probably know, the Charisma skill is based around working with other players. If you're in a team, you want to use Charisma Perk cards that provides team bonuses. A useful one is Inspirational, which nets you bonus XP when in a team. But make sure to share the card if you want your whole team to get the XP boost rather than just you. Even if you aren't in a team, Charisma still has Perks, like Lone Wanderer, which reduces damage and boosts AP regen for solo players.
As you play, an important factor to consider is your weight limit. Running out of space is a problem you'll face often. The Strength Perk card, Pack Rat, can reduce the weight of your junk items up to 75% at max rank. However, in our experience two of the most unexpected sources of weight are food and first aid supplies.
The Agility Perk card Thru-hiker can reduce food and drink weight to a max of 90% and can easily clear up to 60 lbs from your inventory. Another good Agility Perk card is Action Girl/Boy, which lets you regenerate your AP faster. This is incready useful as it ties into your sprint, which tends to run out quickly early on.
Endurance cards are useful in managing the game's survival requirements, such as reducing radiation, not needing to eat or drink as much, or preventing diseases. Make sure you and your party always have lockpick and hacking perks handy so you can unlock safes or hack terminals.
Gunsmith is an incredibly useful Intelligence Perk card that makes slows gun degradation and lets you crafter higher tiers of guns as you rank it up. There's also First Aid, which increases the amount of health gained from stimpacks.
These are only few examples of cards we found useful during the early parts of the game. Remember you can swap your perks at anytime, so always take the time to set them up to fit your current playstyle.
Complete Challenges to Earn Atoms
Fallout 76 has an in-game microtransaction store called the Atomic Shop you can access from the main menu. Everything it offers is purely cosmetic, like new outfits, paint jobs for you Pipboy or Power Armor, photo mode poses, and player emotes. It all costs Atoms, a currency that you can buy with real-world money. But chances are you'd rather earn those Atoms by completing in-game challenges. There's a series of set challenges you can complete along with a rotating set of daily and weekly challenges. You'll naturally complete a lot of these just from playing, but if you're itching to get more Atoms, check out the challenges page in the menu to find some of the easy ones to complete.
Rapid-Fire Tips (Other General Tips)
There's a lot of small stuff packed into the game that's worth being mindful of. Below are some tips we didn't think would suffice as their own slides, but are important to mention nonetheless:
Holotapes still play when you enter a loading screen but you no longer hear them. So if you have a tape playing wait until you leave or enter a building or fast travel until you're done listening to it.
Always carry a Hazmat suit with you. There are tons of areas with heavy radiation that can quickly kill you the more you spend time there, so a Hazmat suit is essential. That, and they can prevent airborne and waterborne diseases.
If you find an instrument, take 30 seconds to play it and receive the Well-tuned status, which grants you a bonus +25% AP regeneration for 1 hour.
Be warned, if you murder someone while in a party, your teammates can start attacking you right away. You won't be able to attack them, however, because you're on the same team.
Use a Tinker's Workbench to bulk your materials, which will condense them and reduce the weight, freeing up more space in your inventory or Stash.
If your meat, veggies, or fruit spoil, don't eat them but also don't throw them away. You can convert them into fertilizer.
Sleep at the start of every play session until you get the well rested icon. It means you get more XP on your adventures.
You can swap your Pip-Bboy between two viewing modes: the standard one takes up your entire view, but the alternate version lets you see what's around you while you navigate menus.
When building the CAMP, many objects in the world block larger saved bases from being placed. Fortunately you only really need one point of contact and can float your entire base on a single set of stairs. Minimizing your base's footprint will reduce your chances of not being able to deploy it.
Even if you don't like VATS, it's still very good for quick shots with bolt action weapons.
Remap the grenade button if you play on PC and plan on using ShadowPlay. Its currently set to Left ALT, and trying to start and stop ShadowPlay will have you accidentally throw a grenade. Also it's just an awkward key to put melee/grenade on anyways.

You might have already gotten yourself a new Exotic this week in Destiny 2. The weekly reset saw the completion of the Murder Mystery quest, whose final prize was the Destiny 1 fan-favorite Exotic machine gun Thunderlord. That was a pretty good prize, but if you need more Exotics--and who doesn't--Xur is back this weekend to quench your thirst for golden loot.
This week, Xur is camped out on Titan. You'll find him on The Rig east of the location where you spawn in, toward the center of the northern edge of the area. Run to the far side of the area and when you come out from the covered portion, turn drop down and turn left. Xur is in the small square building waiting there.
As always, Xur's bag of Exotics includes one weapon and one piece of armor for each of the three classes, specifically from Destiny 2's Year One batch. The weapon this week is Coldheart, a powerful trace rifle laser beam that was previously a preorder bonus for Destiny 2. Its Cold Fusion perk give it a steady beam, and the Longest Winter perk mean it does more and more damage the longer you hold the beam on your target.
Knucklehead Radar is a favorite for Hunters--the helmet maintains your radar even when you're aiming down sights, which makes it great for the Crucible. Warlocks get Aeon Soul, which grant additional class ability energy to teammates when you use your own class ability, with the gains increased when more people on your Fireteam are also wearing Aeon Exotics. Finally, the Titan helmet An Insurmountable Skullfort start health regeneration when you kill enemies with Arc melee abilities, while also recharging your melee energy.
An Insurmountable Skullfort (Exotic Titan helmet) -- 23 Legendary Shards
Alongside the items above you can purchase directly, you can also shell out Legendary shards for Xur's Fated Engram. This engram is guaranteed to decrypt into a Year One Exotic you don't already own, making it a good way to fill out your collection if you find Xur's offerings lacking--provided you can afford it. Make sure you buy it on the character whose class you want the Exotic to match.
Apart from finally taming Thunderlord (here's how if you haven't yet), you should be seeing Exotic drops in the world of Destiny 2 carry fewer duplicates. That's because of Bungie's last big update to the game, which weighted Exotics you don't own higher than ones you do for random drops in the world. Duplicates will still drop, but they should come less often. Bungie also has weighted armor duplicates over weapon duplicates, so if you do get an Exotic you already have, it'll be more likely to be a piece of armor with random perks, which might still be useful. Weapons don't carry random perks, so you can disassemble those dupes.
There's also great non-Exotic loot to be grabbed this week in the Iron Banner. If you still need to earn Triumphs and Iron Banner armor and weapons from the event, best to get in there--Bungie has said that Season 4 is coming to an end at the end of November, which means your chances for this batch of Iron Banner stuff will end with it.
Though Season 4 is ending, the start of Season 5 (known as the Season of the Forge) means another batch of new content as part of Destiny 2's overall Year Two plan. The next expansion piece is called Black Armory, and its due to drop on December 4. It'll come with new Year Two Exotics, as well as other new gear, a new Raid lair, and a new activity.
Black Friday 2018 has well and truly taken over, with UK retailers now jumping on the bandwagon for the annual shopping holiday. High street retailer Argos has launched its Black Friday deals, offering discounts on TVs and video games, as well as the peripherals and accessories you can use to enjoy them. Discounts are available both in-store and online, and we've collected some of the noteworthy deals below.
While newer games are pretty much close to full price still, you can pick up some games from earlier in the year, such as Nier: Automata and Onrush, on the cheap at Argos. This is a great chance to snag those games that you may have let pass you by when they originally released, and if you're looking for cheap stocking fillers for Christmas, you could do a lot worse.
Beyond the games, there's a decent selection of TVs on offer, so if you've been waiting for the ideal opportunity to upgrade to a 4K set, this could be it. Rounding off the discounts at Argos are a bunch of controllers. There are a selection of colored wired Xbox One controllers, which also work on PC. Beyond that a number of Switch controllers themed after iconic Nintendo characters are also available. For those looking for cases for their Switch, Argos has a few of those too. Take a look at the full selection below.
Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 has gotten another global update across all platforms, including quality-of-life improvements, a new Perk system modifier, and PC-specific balance changes. Plus it includes the usual round of regular bug fixes that are to be expected with an ongoing live game.
In the patch notes, Treyarch says that the PC balance updates are distinct from the other platforms and the teams evaluate them separately. As a result the notes have their own PC section with additional keybinds, more slight toggles for things like push to talk or Asus Aura RGB effects, and several balance changes to weapons.
Meanwhile, all modes got improvements to detecting melee attacks, exploit fixes in Multiplayer, and crash fixes in Zombies. The Zombies mode also got a new modifier to its Perk system to increase weapon reload speed. If you've played previous games you may recognize this as the "Speed Cola" perk. Combining it with Fast Mags/Hybrid Mags, it results in a 50% overall increase.
"This preserves the role of these weapon attachments in creating the quickest-handling guns in each weapon class," reads the notes. "Additionally, we wanted to ensure the reload modifiers from certain Pack-a-Punch versions of weapons are still meaningful, which stack with the new 'Speed Cola' tuning values."
Improved melee attack hit registration. More improvements to come in an upcoming patch.

The first five Survivor Series PPVs hewed close to the stated theme: 5-on-5 or 4-on-4 Elimination matches, which would often be 20 minutes or more in length. But the sixth Survivor Series PPV, in 1992, had a single Survivor Series match; the rest were single or tag matches, like any other PPV. WWE even planned to change the name of the PPV in 2010; they only kept it due to fan outcry.
The fact is, it's difficult to make these types of matches narratively coherent; there are just too many wrestlers involved for each of them to have a personal stake in the outcome. That's why last year and this year's Survivor Series, which book everything as a Raw vs. Smackdown contest, work so well. There doesn't need to be personal issues at play, just straightforward "brand supremacy" contest. The fans get dream matches (like the upcoming rematch between AJ Styles and Brock Lesnar), and they don't disrupt the single-brand storylines for an entire month..
When Survivor Series is booked haphazardly, you get weird teams like the ones in this gallery. Why are they friends? Why should we care? Don't worry about any of that, and don't overthink it. Here are eight of the weirdest WWE Survivor Series team-ups of all time.
If you liked this gallery, check out the most shocking moments in Survivor Series history, check out the match card for the upcoming Survivor Series PPV, and be sure to visit Gamespot on Sunday, November 18, when we will cover the entire event live.
8. Team Out-of-Shape (1996)
(Yokozuna, Flash Funk, Jimmy Snuka, Savio Vega)
Former WWE Champion Yokozuna was always big. But during his second WWE run from 1995-1996, his weight spiraled out of control. His match at the 1996 Survivor Series was his final one with the company; he was sent home to lose weight afterwards, but he could not lose enough to get cleared by doctors, and was eventually fired.
Yoko spent most of his final match camped on the apron. And his teammates, Savio Vega, Flash Funk (2 Cold Scorpio, in a criminally bad pimp gimmick), and an over-the-hill Jimmy Snuka didn't help matters against the team of Vader, Farooq, Fake Razor Ramon, and Fake Diesel. The match ended in a no contest, and it should have ended much sooner.
7. The World's Largest Athlete Destroys His Useless Team (1999)
(The Big Show, The Blue Meanie, Taka Michinoku and Sho Funaki)
The Big Show had a big axe to grind against the Big Bossman; at a memorable low point, Bossman crashed Show's father's funeral and dragged his casket around by a chain.
So when Big Show had to take on Bossman's team at the 1999 Survivor Series, he decided (rightly!) that his ragtag teammates, Blue Meanie, Taka, and Funaki, would only get in the way. So he beat the hell out of them in the locker room, and then proceeded to win his Survivor Series match by himself, defeating Bossman, Albert, Viscera, and Mideon in under a minute-and-a-half. It was weird for sure, but it was also kind of awesome.
And Show wasn't done. In the main event of the evening's show, he defeated Triple H and The Rock to become WWE champion. How's that for a day's work?
6. The Best of America? (1997)
(Vader, Goldust, Steve Blackman, Marc Mero)
"Vader, the team you've assembled here doesn't seem to have a common thread!" Michael Cole stated the obvious and then shoved the microphone in front of a speechless Vader, who took a moment to collect himself before admitting, yeah, true.
Vader, Goldust, Blackman, and Mero had no personal reasons to team up, but they were thrown together as Team USA to take on Team Canada (The British Bulldog, Doug Furnas, Jim Neidhart and Phil Lafon). They lost after Goldust walked out on his teammates, to the delight of the Montreal crowd.
5. The British Bulldog Joins The Greenwich Posse (1999)
(Davey Boy Smith, Pete Gas, Rodney, and Joey Abs)
The British Bulldog plus Shane McMahon's three prep school friends (two of whom could not wrestle) was not a good idea, even on paper. Davey Boy looked irritated, both in real life and in storyline. This was also during Bulldog's weird blue jeans phase, which was probably extremely uncomfortable; the guy's quads were the size of canned hams.
This match wasn't even funny as a goof, and the crowd didn't care about any of it. Val Venis, Mark Henry, Steve Blackman, and Gangrel completely outclassed their competition, destroying the Posse before finally taking out the British Bulldog in a lopsided fight.
4. The Royal Embarrassment (1994)
(Jerry "The King" Lawler, Queasy, Sleazy, Cheesy)
There is probably a way to incorporate little people into WWE without making it demeaning, corny, and humiliating for both the viewers and the performers. But this sure isn't it.
Lawler and three little people dressed like kings took on Doink and three little people dressed like clowns. And of course, Creative had the bright idea to name them like Snow White rejects; the kings were Sleazy, Queasy, and Cheesy, and the clowns were Dink, Wink, and Pink. You know. Humor!
If you ever needed a reminder that despite all the corporate sheen, WWE chairman Vince McMahon is a unapologetic carny, this is it.
3. A Knight To Forget (1993)
(Shawn Michaels, The Black Knight, The Red Knight, and The Blue Knight)
The match between the Hart Family and Team Lawler at the 1993 Survivor Series would have been a high point in a storyline that carried on for years, in which Lawler harassed Bret, his mother, and his father, often times while they were sitting in the stands.
But then, things went pear-shaped. From Bret's memoir Hitman:
"In mid-November, I heard that Vince finally had been indicted by the Feds. Then the WWF took another hit when Jerry Lawler was charged with having sex with an underaged girl. My entire Survivor Series match was centered around Lawler and his constant jabs at my family; without him, the match would mean nothing. Lawler was hastily edited out of the weekend TV show, with no explanation given to the fans, and Shawn was thrown in to replace him at Survivor Series."
That's why we got Shawn Michaels and his masked, anonymous Knights, who were handily disposed of by Bret, Bruce, Keith, and Owen Hart, and then never mentioned again.
2. Team Gross (1993)
(Bam Bam Bigelow, Bastion Booger, Fatu and Samu)
To take on Doink, who had been harassing Bam Bam in his workplace for weeks (which would probably make Bam Bam a sympathetic face these days), Bigelow put together a team of gross ne'er do wells: Bastion Booger, whose entire gimmick was to be fat, burp, and fart, and The Headshrinkers, who were portrayed as complete savages, because WWE was a bastion of progressiveness in 1993.
They came to the ring eating whole chickens with their mouths open, screaming and spitting at the camera, unified only by the audience's disgust. But the best was yet to come…
1. The Four Doinks (1993)
(Luke Doink, Butch Doink, Mabel Doink, Mo Doink)
WWE decided that the best way to book this match between Bigelow and Doink was to have Doink, incomprehensibly, sit it out. Instead of Doink and three other guys, it was the Bushwhackers (Luke and Butch) and Men on a Mission (Mabel and Mo) in clown makeup.
The match was a gimmicky mess; the Doinks took out the Headshrinkers by having one of them bite into a poisoned water balloon and having the other slip on a banana peel. But it was fun at the time in a 'so bad it's good sort of way,' even if it doesn't hold up to repeated viewings.
And that's the best way to to enjoy the 'weirdest' WWE matches. Turn your brain off, embrace Vince McMahon's terrible sense of humor, and remember that pro wrestling's roots are in the traveling circuses. It doesn't all need to be taken seriously.
Smackdown's card has changed quite a bit in the past week, hasn't it? Well, everything should be set for Sunday's Survivor Series PPV, and this show features WWE's Raw and Smackdown superstars taking each other on in the ring. The Staples Center in Los Angeles, California will host the PPV, which starts at 7 PM ET / 4 PM PT with a Kickoff Show starting two hours prior. The event will be available to watch on the WWE Network as well as PPV, and there are plenty of different ways to watch Survivor Series.
The main attraction of the the event is none other than the multiple Survivor Series matches. Men, women, and tag teams will all get their own elimination tag matches, which will be scattered across the evening. The only one of these matches with any type of build is the women's match, which we previously mentioned. In total, there are eight matches taking place during the evening.

Raw Women's Champion Ronda Rousey vs. Charlotte

Tag Team Survivor Series Match [Kickoff Show]
Ignoring the fact that only Raw superstars are pictured above, the Monday night and Tuesday WWE shows will have its tag teams square off in the ring. I love Smackdown's tag division, especially with the recent inclusion of Sanity, but I feel as though Raw is really trying to rebuild its division. In order to make to do that, Raw needs the win here.
Prediction: Raw wins
AOP vs. The Bar
I was really hoping Seth Rollins would have beaten AOP on his own and retained the Raw Tag Championship. Sadly, he lost to AOP, and I have no clue what to make of this match anymore. Big Show teaming with The Bar will give them the extra push they need to beat AOP, who are monsters in their own right. But there's nothing on the line here, and I can see it going either way.
Prediction: The Bar wins
Buddy Murphy (c) vs. Mustafa Ali
(Cruiserweight Championship)
The only match with something on-the-line is for the Cruiserweight Championship. Out of every match on the card, this will be the best one to watch, and honestly, it's the only one I really care about now that Becky Lynch has been pulled from the card. Regardless, both of these men consistently put on great matches, and I'm a big Mustafa Ali fan--not just because he's from my hometown of Chicago--so I'm giving him the win.
Prediction: Mustafa Ali wins
Men's Survivor Series Match
Now that Daniel Bryan is out, he's been replaced by Jeff Hardy. This match really boils down to speed (Smackdown) vs. brute force (Raw). Lashley, McIntyre, and Strowman are three of the strongest men on the main rosters. However, on the Smackdown side of things, everyone on the team is a longtime veteran, while Raw has a rookie--comparatively--leading the charge with Braun Strowman. This should be a good match, with a lot of fun spots, and I'm giving the win to Smackdown, but I could see this going either way.
Prediction: Smackdown wins
Women's Survivor Series Match
Even though Survivor Series is only a few days away, Smackdown's team is not complete--because Charlotte took Becky Lynch's place in the champion vs. champion match. More than likely, we'll get a big surprise as to who is joining team Smackdown on Sunday, unless WWE just tosses Nikki Cross in there. Anyway, I'm digging Smackdown's lineup for this match than Raw's, so I'm giving Smackdown the win, but it will more than likely be very close as Nia Jax and Tamina will probably dominate a lot of the match for Raw.
Prediction: Smackdown wins
Seth Rollins vs. Shinsuke Nakamura
Right next to the Cruiserweight Championship match, Rollins/Nakamura will be a must-watch Survivor Series bout. WWE has been trying to build something between these two, but Rollins has been intensely involved with Dean Ambrose. Sadly, that's going to play heavily into this match, as Ambrose will undoubtedly interfere. However, instead of going after Rollins, I have a feeling he'll attack Nakamura after a long battle in order to give him the win.
Prediction: Shinsuke Nakamura wins after Dean Ambrose interference
Ronda Rousey vs. Charlotte
WWE is trying to make the best out of a bad situation by having Charlotte replace Becky Lynch for the champion vs. champion match. And while Charlotte is fantastic in the ring and could easily carry this match, there is no heat between the two. Originally, I had Lynch to hand Rousey her first loss, but because of this change, I expect Rousey to come out on top.
Prediction: Ronda Rousey wins
Brock Lesnar vs. Daniel Bryan
I can't wait to see AJ Styles beat Brock Lesnar! Wait, that's not happening anymore? Wait, Daniel Bryan beat AJ Styles for the WWE Championship after a low blow? What is happening? This feels like weird fan service after the Becky Lynch debacle. People want to see these two fight, I guess. As much as I love Daniel Bryan, I don't see him beating Brock Lesnar, especially after the November 13 switcharoo. This champion vs. champion match just feels weird now, and it will most likely be Lesnar squashing Bryan.
It's almost time for Survivor Series, WWE's fall PPV, which comes to the WWE Network on Sunday, November 18. This event is one of WWE's oldest PPVs, dating back to the late-80s, when the sports entertainment company wasn't putting out a big show once a month. Like Royal Rumble, Wrestlemania, and Summerslam, it's considered one of the big four WWE PPVs.
Survivor Series began back on November 26, 1987 with a simple idea: have four tag team matches where contestants are eliminated until only one team is left standing. The 1987 Survivor Series came in at 2 hours and 44 minutes for the matches and a whole bunch of weird interviews and segments.
Considering GameSpot's Mat Elfring and Chris E. Hayner review each current WWE PPV, we thought it would be a good idea to take a time machine 31 years in the past to watch this show on the WWE Network, and review it like it just recently aired. Because they were only four matches at this event, we decided to discuss some of the segments and interviews that took place because they are bonkers in their own right.
Here's the card for Survivor Series 1987 before we kick things off:
Match 1
Team 1: Brutus Beefcake, Jake Roberts, Jim Duggan, Randy Savage, and Ricky Steamboat
Team 2: Dangerous Danny Davis, Harley Race, Hercules, The Honky Tonk Man, and Ron Bass
Match 2
Team 1: The Fabulous Moolah, Itsuki Yamazaki, Noriyo Tateno, Rockin' Robin, and Velvet McIntyre
Team 2: Dawn Marie, Donna Christanello, Leilani Kai, Judy Martin, and Sensational Sherri
Match 3
Team 1: The British Bulldogs (Davey Boy Smith and Dynamite Kid), The Killer Bees (B. Brian Blair and Jim Brunzell), The Fabulous Rougeaus (Jacques Rougeau and Raymond Rougeau), Strike Force (Rick Martel and Tito Santana), and The Young Stallions (Jim Powers and Paul Roma)
Team 2: The Bolsheviks (Boris Zhukov and Nikolai Volkoff), Demolition (Ax and Smash), The Dream Team (Dino Bravo and Greg Valentine), The Hart Foundation (Bret Hart and Jim Neidhart), and The Islanders (Haku and Tama)
Match 4
Team 1: André the Giant, Butch Reed, King Kong Bundy, One Man Gang, and Rick Rude
Team 2: Bam Bam Bigelow, Don Muraco, Hulk Hogan, Ken Patera, and Paul Orndorff
Make sure to come back to GameSpot on Sunday, November 18 for live coverage of this year's PPV and a review of that show as well.
Interview: Team Honky Tonk Man
Mat: What's amazing about this is that Hercules is in the back mugging so hard for the camera. Everyone is having their own conversation, but only Honky Tonk has the mic. It's pure chaos, and it's wonderful. Unscripted promos are the best.
Chris: This is an example of something that would never EVER happen in 2018, and I'm not sure if that's a good thing or not. It's just manic, having these four essentially on their own planes of existence, with Honky Tonk Man--who I do not like one bit--screaming into a microphone. It's wild how silly they make Harley Race seem here, and I kind of love it. My only wish if that it would've been Bobby Heenan with the mic.
Interview: Team Macho Man
Mat: The madness continues. Hacksaw Jim Duggan is using his 2X4 as a gun and Ricky Steamboat is doing Karate moves. The best part of the whole segment is Macho Man sliding in, with his back turned to the camera to tell us about the danger zone. He seems so confused yet confident in his confusion.
Chris: I… I don't even know what to say about any of this. Ricky Steamboat is a New Yorker, billed from Hawaii, doing a karate gimmick. Jim Duggan's character is "weirdo with a 2x4." The '80s were wild and, at times, way too much. While these are fun, for the most part, this is going to be a long show.
Men's Survivor Series Match 1
Mat: Dangerous Danny Davis sounds like one of my created wrestlers. He kinda looks like one too. Brutus "The Barber" Beefcake's outfit gives me no confidence that he's actually a good barber. Why was I so into this guy as a kid? He's like a poor man's Zodiac. The audience at this event is the best. It's just regular folk. There's no wrestling smarks or dumb signs. It's just average folk. I'm so happy I got into wrestling during this era.
Ricky Steamboat is so good. He's such ahead of his time, and it really shows here. He's so smooth in the ring. And it's apparent, from the get-go that this match is really just to highlight team Macho Man. It gets pretty brutal towards the end when it's Macho Man, Steamboat, and Jake Roberts all beating on Honky Tonk, to the point where Honky Tonk just leaves the ring and gets counted out. What a weird finish, but I'm totally down with that.
7/10
Chris: I can't believe Jim Duggan did a corkscrew plancha to the outside. I'm kidding, of course that didn't happen. There's none of that on this show because it's 1987. These characters, though, are fascinating to watch. It's interesting to me that I watched this stuff in the 1980s and was so convinced it was real. As an adult, I'm watching a barber with a mullet fight an Elvis impersonator and… I'm kind of into it. These characters are so over-the-top but in a wildly entertaining way, even if the fighting looks even less impactful than anything you'll see today. The star of the match, for my money, is Ricky Steamboat. He's one of the best to ever step between the ropes and he's in fine form here. The match itself, though, left a lot to be desired. This is the first Survivor Series match ever and it ended because Honky Tonk just walked away? Poor form.
5.5/10
Interview: Andre The Giant's Team
Mat: You ever see a bad movie where all the extras in the background are talking, but it's obvious no one is really having an actual conversation. That's what's happening here. One Man Gang (oh Akeem) is just talking to the backs of everyone's head and nodding like a madman. I feel like Andre The Giant is mere seconds away from cracking up during that bit.
Chris: Wow. First of all, Slick and Bobby Heenan in a promo together is the stuff of dreams. The odd man out here is Rick Rude, the only person showing literally zero emotion. He's just kind of standing there, showing off his amazing mustache. Sometimes, though, that's enough.
Women's Survivor Series Match
Mat: I know who Fabulous Moolah, the Jumping Bomb Angels, and Sensational Sherri are, and that's about it. Before the match starts, Jesse Ventura decides to promote The Running Man, shamelessly, and I love it. But man, Rockin' Robin is pretty awful to watch, especially when she's facing Sensational Sherri for a few minutes. They're both in very separate leagues as Robin half-sells everything. Speaking of separate leagues, the Jumping Bomb Angels are a lot better than I remember. The pace is pretty high for a match during the late-80s. You can't really take your eyes off the match as everything is happening to quickly.
There are so many crossbody blocks, double underhook suplexes, and women being pulled into the ring over the top rope though. Wash, rinse, and repeat. And toward the end of the match, when it's just the Jumping Bomb Angels and the Glamour Girls, I just want the match to be over. The quick pace has worn a bit thin, and I just need it all to slow down a bit.
6/10
Chris: Do you remember the Glamour Girls? Yeah, neither do I. But they wear gold and Jimmy Hart is their manager, I guess. So many of the names in this match are forgotten, which is a bummer. But seeing the likes of Sensational Sherri, Rockin' Robin, and Fabulous Moolah is interesting. Sherri doesn't get enough credit for her role as a wrestler, due to her later time as one of the very best managers ever. She looks great in this match, though, and it the "Ladies World Champion," which is somehow a worse title name than Divas Champion. Unfortunately, the action in this match just doesn't have the same weight to it. This show, for the most part, isn't about blood feuds or anything like that, so the characters are important. Sadly, the women's characters just are defined well-enough--especially the final four of the Jumping Bomb Angels and the Glamour Girls. At least this match had a real ending, though.
5/10
Interview: Bobby Heenan's Team
Mat: This is the most madness. There are so many people yelling on screen, and I can't understand one thing anyone is saying. Heenan is blocking everyone talking too, and his back is to the camera. It's the best. I'm also glad to see Jimmy Hart does his jacket changes during interviews. It's very important that your outfit represent the wrestlers you're managing.
Chris: This is officially the best part of the show yet. Why? Because Demolition. I can watch Demolition stand in the background and be weird for hours. What a crazy pants team Heenan built. And shouts to Greg "The Hammer" Valentine for making it onto this show and yet another costume change for Jimmy Hart.
Interview: Strike Force Team
Mat: This looks like a bunch of dudes tailgating before a football game, but I'm very confused as to what football team these gentlemen are rooting for. Is it the Decatur Staleys? Now that was a great football team. Anyway, this is a good example of why some wrestlers should be a bit more scripted, as it's impossible to make out what's actually going on.
Chris: Team Strike Force looks like an early-80s TV movie adaptation of some comic book you've never read. They all look like low budget superheroes and their motto is "unity for victory." Does that make Bret Hart their Joker?
Note from Mat: Strike Force was TOTALLY a comic book you've never read during the '90s.
Tag Team Survivor Series Match
Mat: It's really weird to see Rick Martel not using his "Model" gimmick. This is a really long match, running around 40 minutes. Sure, there are some fun moments, but this match is overstuffed, and it contains plenty of wrestlers I'm not interested in, including the Hart Foundation as heels, before they really hit their groove. This was the first time during this Survivor Series event that I simply didn't care what was happening nor did I feel invested in the match in any way.
3/10
Chris: I'm having a hard time believing this match started with wrestlers demanding the audience rise for the Russian national anthem. Yeah, this was Nikolai Volkoff's gimmick, but it's so much more haunting in 2018. Regardless, why is this match so long? There's nothing interesting happening in it at all. In fact, the part I was most entertained by was Jesse Ventura talking about the pilgrim hat he was wearing.
2.5/10
Segment: Ted DiBiase Counts Money, Bullies Children
Mat: Ted DiBiase is the greatest thing, to me, about the late-80s and early-90s WWF. The Million Dollar Man is such a great gimmick. He's just sitting in a nice car, counting money, and trash talking. The man is incredibly underrated when it comes to cutting promos. That laugh is the best.
Additionally, I could watch all these segments of Million Dollar Man challenging kids to do contests for money all day long. They are hilarious. There is nothing better than DiBiase kicking the ball out of the kid's hand while he dribbling. NOTHING. None of this second part of the segment is new, but it's a nice package to show off how amazing DiBiase is.
Chris: Ted Diabe is such an a**hole. He's a perfect heel, just throwing money at anything standing in his way. He's literally spending his Thanksgiving riding around in the back of a car, counting his money and remembering the times he humiliated children. What an amazing character that perfectly sums up the excess of the '80s.
Interview: Team Hulk Hogan
Mat: How do these interviews keep getting weirder? What is going on with Hogan's bandanna? Why is Hogan blocking everyone who is talking into the mic? This seems like a bunch of men who have already lost their minds.
Chris: Leave it to Hulk Hogan to take this insanity to the extreme. Why does his headband have bangs? And, yeah, for some reason, Hulk is blocking everyone. Whoever produced this is just... bad. Also, I'm convinced this promo alone inspired the Oddities.
Men's Survivor Series Match 2
Mat: I forgot how big Hulk Hogan was, which is kind of a dumb statement, but the crowd is on fire from the moment Hogan enters the arena. It wasn't like this at all during the rest of the PPV. The whole match is really just building towards a face-off between Hogan and Andre, and when it begins, it really pays off. I love how sad Hogan is after getting eliminated. He's on the verge of crying. As soon as he's gone though, the train loses steam, right up until Bam Bam does a bunch of somersaults to escape Andre, and I completely lose it.
The finish is nutso, as Andre wins by arm dragging Bam Bam. Today, you can't win a major match without dropping like at least 14 F-5s on someone. Andre wins, but then Hogan comes out an mugs for the camera a bunch to his theme music. And there's like 10 minutes of Hogan pointing and flexing because that's a thing that happened a lot back then. Yeah, this feels a lot like the '80s, which is good because it's 1987.
7/10
Chris: Man, Hogan is so over. It might be the most over anyone's ever been in wrestling, which is saying something. This is going down during peak-Hulkamania, and his popularity just dwarfs everyone else in the ring. Also, he still has a bit of a hairline, so there's that too. Truthfully, this match is nothing more than means to an end. It's all about getting Hogan and Andre face-to-face.
Everything outside of that good and this match serves as a decent reminder of how cool Bam Bam Bigelow was. It's easily the best match on the card, but the magic comes when Andrew and Hulk are in the ring together, because that electricity shoots through the crowd. But Hogan losing the match via countout is a stroke of genius here. Hogan sells disappointment in himself, while they keep him from losing clean. From there, it's just a matter of time until Andre the Giant wins the match.
8/10
Post-Match Interview: Andre The Giant
Mat:While this interview is going on, Hogan is still doing his thing in the ring. His music is blaring and the crowd is cheering. Meanwhile, I can't make out what Andre the Giant is saying. He pointed a lot, so I know Andre means business. I haven't had this much fun watching mediocre matches in years. Can we cut back to Ted DiBiase picking on children, please?
Chris: The end of this show really makes Hogan look awful. He got counted out on his own accord then attacked Andre with the title? That's your hero, America? That's your Real American? For shame!
WWE's next big PPV is almost here, as Survivor Series comes to PPV and the WWE Network on Sunday, November 18. The show traditionally has two teams competing against each other in elimination tag matches. Usually, teams of five eliminate each other, one by one, until only one wrestler is left standing.
Since Raw and Smackdown are currently shows where the superstars don't crossover to fight each other, Survivor Series has become one of the few events of the year where wrestlers from the Monday night programming take on the Tuesday night show. In addition to these elimination matches, WWE has the champions of both Raw and Smackdown face each other, which is the only time of the year you can see this event.
This year's event is coming to the Staples Center in Los Angeles, California. Survivor Series kicks off on PPV and on the WWE Network at 7 PM ET / 4 PM PT, and while a Kickoff Show has not been announced yet, we're speculating there will be a two-hour long preshow, much like the other "Big Four" WWE PPVs.
This is the 32nd annual Survivor Series from WWE, which dates back to 1987. Since the focus of the event are the Elimination Tag Matches, we're taking a look through the history of WWE to look at every single traditional Survivor Series match in the history of WWE. On each slide, the winners are presented first for each match, unless noted otherwise. So check out every single Survivor Series Elimination Tag match from this iconic PPV.
Note: Neither 1998 or 2002 had a Survivor Series match, so they don't appear on this list.
