Black Friday is quickly approaching on Friday, November 23, the day after Thanksgiving in the US. Walmart has released its circular for the retail holiday, and it contains hundreds of physical copies of moves and television shows--along with TVs--for exceptionally low prices.
Many of these deals, including games, will be available online on Wednesday, November 21 starting at 10 PM ET / 7 PM PT, while the in-store shopping kicks off on Thursday, November 22 at 6 PM, locally. Make sure to check with your local Walmart as hours may vary, and there may be a chance, like with Target and Best Buy, that the stores will be closing in the early-morning hours.
There will be hundreds of movies on sale during the event. In the circular, Walmart only listed a small portion of what will be available in store. It states over 110 movies will be priced at $2, 180 at $4, 70 at $6, 30 at $8, 50 at $9, and 90 at $10. The selection will be very wide for the Black Friday event, but there is a limited stock, so you'll want to get to your local Walmart early to pick these up.
From the $2 items listed on site, there isn't anything exceptionally notable, aside from the original Jumanji on DVD. There were, however, a couple decent selections on Blu-ray in the $4 category: Spider-Man: Homecoming and Home Alone. Walmart is also discounting a few movies in 4K to under $10 like Wonder Woman, Deadpool 2, and Rampage. You can also pick up this year's Mission Impossible: Fallout for only $8, but keep in mind, this is a digital code for Vudu and not a physical copy.
Below is the full list of the DVDs, Blu-rays, and 4K movies listed in the Walmart Black Friday ad. This is not the complete list, but if more get added, this list will be updated.

Overlord may not be part of the Cloverfield universe, but it is the first R-rated film from J.J. Abrams' Bad Robot studio, and it embraces that mature rating. This part-war, part-horror movie doesn't shy away from the gory reality of combat, combining World War II action with monster movie moments for a thrilling ride that rarely lets up. With likable heroes and despicable villains, Overlord is a trip into Nazi-occupied France that's worth taking.
Our heroes are an archetypal squad. Protagonist Boyce (Jovan Adepo) is your everyman soldier, conscripted into the army but averse to violence. With him are the jokester Tibbet (John Magaro) and the somewhat wimpy war photographer Chase (Iain De Caestecker). Leading them all is the uncompromising Corporal Ford (Wyatt Russell). There's a likeable quality to gravitate toward in each member of the squad, whether it's Boyce's nobility or Tibbet's wisecracks.
The squad also finds a lone ally during their mission. Just before reaching the French village that houses the radio tower, they happen upon Chloe (Mathilde Ollivier), who lives there with her aunt and little brother. Throughout the film, Chloe does what she must to keep herself and her family safe, and you get the sense that she would have eventually taken on the Nazis occupying her village herself if the squad hadn't shown up. Unfortunately, she's the only female character in the entire film, save for a throwaway extra or two. While that may be accurate for the setting and scenario in which these soldiers find themselves, it's still slightly disappointing.
Their goal is simple: Take out a radio tower so that air support can be called in for the invasion of Normandy. If they fail, D-Day doesn't happen. Overlord immediately sets high stakes and shows off its hyperviolent tendencies--within minutes, dozens of soldiers are severely injured or dead, and we're treated to a GoPro-style shot of Boyce air-dropping from the plane and plunging into the water below. It's the first of many dynamic shots and longer takes, which are often punctuated by flash frames of blood and gore.
Overlord's sound design is equally powerful, with loud explosions, haunting moans, and terrifying screams. You might not always see the horrible act happening behind a closed door, but the sounds from the other side help paint you a grisly mental picture. As for what you can see, the movie is covered in drab grays, greens, and browns, punctuated by fiery reds from blood, fire, and explosions. Crimson severed limbs and bloody explosions stand out strongly against such a background.
Their chief opponent is Wafner (Pilou Asbaek), a Nazi officer who exudes evil. His scenes are characterized by both violence and aggressive sexual acts, all of which make him very hateable, very quickly. Wafner is a bad guy you want to see fall, and the climactic fight with him is akin to a Marvel villain fight. But the same can't be said for the other key antagonist, The Doctor. This Nazi scientist is responsible for a series of horrible experiments happening in the village, but aside from a few appearances where he watches some bodies get torched or injects a patient with serum, he has little to do. Despite being the creator of the movie's monsters, he has a disappointing presence in the film.
The monsters themselves are a different story. The Nazis' goal is to create unkillable super soldiers, and their successful test subjects rise despite grievous injury after grievous injury. Even the traditional "shoot the zombie in the head" method isn't a valid option. These aren't Walking Dead shamblers, nor are they 28 Days Later rage machines: These super soldiers are walking, thinking tanks, a refreshing take on the zombie trope. They aren't seen as often in the film as you'd expect, but their less frequent appearances help to keep their superhuman abilities all the more mysterious. Still, pure horror junkies may be expecting to see them maul more victims than they actually do. Fortunately, some jump scares and tense long takes help keep parts of Overlord feeling like horror even when there isn't a monster on the screen.
Despite mixing the military with horror, Overlord is a war movie at its core. While it picks off its cast like an 80s slasher flick, it doesn't shy away from gun violence. There's an unrelenting sense of danger, of nearly getting caught, hanging over the whole film. The Nazis killed a lot of people, and our heroes are aiming to avoid the same fate. It's fun to watch the team design and carry out a battle plan, whether it involves silently hiding in an attic, tricking Nazis to get inside a compound, or simply opening fire in the streets.
These exploits transform Boyce, and his character arc is fun to watch; he goes from being something of a pacifist to a trigger-pulling hero. His kills are few in number, but they are done in service of helping others. As a person of color, Boyce's role as the protagonist is also noteworthy given the historical setting. Boyce and Chloe have great chemistry, while Boyce's clashes with Ford are the movie's strongest scenes, strengthening both their character arcs. While the whole squad, Chloe included, work well together, Jovan and Russell stand out.
Overlord is a journey, both for the characters and the viewer. What starts as a simple airdrop becomes a tale of survival in a lab meant for horrifying experiments. It's a journey worth taking. The squad members are charming in their own ways, and the intensity doesn't let up. Chloe stands strong despite being the movie's only key woman, and The Doctor simply could have used more screen time. Despite some missteps, Overlord marries a war film to horror tropes with strong success.

Battlefield V is still a little more than a week away from its release on PS4, Xbox One, and PC, but some players are able to jump into the World War II shooter right now. Those with a subscription to EA Access on Xbox One or Origin Access on PC can download and play Battlefield V beginning today, November 9.
Subscribers to either of EA's services will be able to experience up to 10 hours of the game ahead of its launch, and any progress you make during the trial period will carry over when Battlefield V officially releases. Meanwhile, members of the premium Origin Access Premiere service will get access to the full game. A standard EA Access or Origin Access subscription runs for $5 per month or $30 per year, while an Origin Access Prime subscription is available for either $15/month or $100/year.
With Battlefield V now available to many players, DICE senior producer Lars Gustavsson shared a message with fans on the game's official Twitter account. In the message, Gustavsson thanks the community for their continued support and for their hand in shaping the series into what it is today. You can read the full message below.
With the first players already deployed and playing #Battlefield , Mr. Battlefield himself has a very special message for the Best Community In The World. Here's to you, the players! pic.twitter.com/y99MjnfpIT
Battlefield V was originally intended to launch on October 19, but it was delayed by a month in order to give DICE more time to further improve the gameplay. DICE general manager Oskar Gabrielson shared a message with fans on the game's original intended release date and revealed that everyone who purchases Battlefield V during its first week of availability will receive two bonus items for free.
Like many titles nowadays, Battlefield V will be available in standard and Deluxe editions. The latter retails for $80 and grants you a handful of bonuses, including early access to the full game beginning November 14. You can read more in our Battlefield V pre-order guide.
Destiny 2 players are still hoping for a new Exotic in Thunderlord, which is presumed to be the reward for the on-going, multi-week murder-mystery quest that started at the end of the Festival of the Lost. But if waiting three weeks to get your hands on a new Exotic is just too long, you can rely on Xur, the weird merchant and servant of The Nine who pops up each weekend. As always, he has a handful Exotics to sell you in exchange for Legendary Shards. Here's where to find him and what he's selling right now.
This week, you'll find Xur on Io. Spawn in at the Giant's Scar landing zone and hop on your sparrow, then head straight through the Cabal base into the drilling area beyond. Head for the northwest corner of the area and look for a cave near some Taken enemies. Inside and to the right is Xur, creeping in the darkness.
His lineup of Exotics, as per usual, includes one weapon and one piece of armor for each of the three classes from the Year One collection. The weapon is The Prospector, a grenade launcher you can hold down the trigger to fire in full-auto mode. When you release the trigger, you can detonate all your launched grenades at once--and they stick to surfaces and set things on fire, too.
The Prospector (Exotic grenade launcher) -- 29 Legendary Shards
Alongside the direct-purchase items above, Xur has the Fated Engram. This is guaranteed to decrypt into a Year One Exotic you don't already own, making it a good way to fill out your collection if you find Xur's offerings lacking--provided you can afford it.
Even if you can't, the latest Destiny 2 update mercifully makes Exotic duplicates less likely to drop. The game now accounts for the Exotics you've got in your collection when a new one drops randomly in the world, which will decrease the chance of getting an Exotic you already own. Duplicates are still possible, but Bungie has also changed things so dupes are more likely to be armor than weapons, because armor pieces feature random perks, meaning there is a potential upside to finding something you already have.
The update has also increased the chances of unlocking a quest to get another Exotic: Malfeasance, a Taken-infused hand cannon. The quest line to track it down starts when a specific boss, the Primeval Ascendant Servitor, appears in Gambit matches. Bungie's last update upped the rate at which the Servitor shows up in Gambit, which should hopefully mean more Malfeasances for more players.
Xur is here until the weekly reset on November 13, and he'll only show up two more times before Destiny 2 closes Season 4 on November 27, according to a recent blog post. That means your Gambit and Crucible ranks will reset--but at least in the meantime, you'll be able to jump into Iron Banner again starting on November 13 to try to complete your spiffy Iron Lord armor sets.
Fortnite has pulled its limited-time Blitz mode and replaced it with the funky Disco Domination. Epic didn't give any stated reason for the swap, but Blitz just returned in the recent 6.22 update, so it was particularly limited.
Blitz mode speeds up the traditional Fortnite match by closing the storm circle right from the start. The result is a match that lasts no longer than 15 minutes, and features much more loot to find around the map. Disco Domination, by comparison, keeps matches a normal length but tasks players with finding capture points (as dance floors) to rack up team score. In fact, Disco Domination is one of the more forgiving modes in Fortnite, as players have a limited ability to respawn.
The 6.22 update added a number of other changes for Fortnite as well. It brought the Week 7 challenges, a new Heavy AR weapon, NFL skins, and another limited-time mode called Team Terror. That mode sorts players into two teams of 32, with the goal of wiping each other out. But it comes with a twist, in that the Cube Monsters from the Fortnitemares event are also wandering around the map, and can also attack you.
Fortnite keeps gaining steam as it continues issuing updates, most recently passing a new milestone with 8.3 million concurrent players. Part of that popularity is no doubt due to the wealth of new cosmetic items to unlock with new challenges, and if you need any help on that front you can check out our full challenge guide.
When you head to theaters to watch The Girl in the Spider's Web, don't be surprised to see quite a few changes from the source material, the novel by David Lagercrantz. While, overall, the movie follows the story told in the book, there are a number of details and plot points that have either been changed or dropped altogether.
Of course, that's not necessarily unique to this particular film. Most book adaptations change things up to fit the narrative of the movie or simply to keep a film from running 19 hours long.
For Fede Álvarez, who directed the film and wrote the screenplay with Jay Basu and Steven Knight, the changes are an important part of showing who this movie's Lisbeth Salander (Claire Foy) is and it all started with the very first draft of the script. "We started with a draft from Steven Knight, a brilliant British writer, and he did that part of choosing what part of books were going to be made into a movie," Álvarez told GameSpot.
From there, he sat down with Basu to shape the story. "When we wrote it, it was more about choosing the themes and focusing on the themes I care about personally, which had more to do with family and guilt and secrets and shame," he explained.
Those themes are not only central in The Girl in the Spider's Web but to the kind of films Álvarez prefers to make. As he told GameSpot, "I'm interested in seeing the real human being behind the flawed human being." With this film, he's giving audiences the chance to know Lisbeth as a flawed human being and how she got to be that way, beginning with her family and childhood.
However, he's also spending time on the importance of the person she's become because of those influences. Throughout The Girl in the Spider's Web, Lisbeth is more of a computer hacking vigilante than anything else, righting wrongs as she sees fit.
While it remains to be seen how fans of the book will take to the changes in the film, it's clear that Álvarez knows exactly what his vision for Lisbeth Salander is. You'll be able to see her when The Girl in the Spider's Web hits theaters on November 9.

Best Buy may have cut back on the amount of physical copies of movies and TV series it carries in the store, but the retailer still plans on having some huge deals on DVDs, Blu-Rays, and 4K discs, many of which come with digital codes as well. The company's sale starts on Thursday, November 22 at 5PM, locally, and the doors will close at 1 AM on November 23. Season 6 of Fortnite rolls on. Another set of weekly challenges are now available to complete for Week 2, and as usual, if you manage to finish all of the ones from a given week, you'll in turn complete a Hunting Party challenge--this season's equivalent of the Road Trip challenges from Season 5.
The reward for completing a Hunting Party challenge is a special loading screen, which hides a very subtle hint to the location of a free item hidden around the island. Typically, the item in question is a free Battle Star, which levels your Battle Pass up by one tier once collected, but toward the end of Season 5, Epic began hiding banners in their place.
Oddly, it appears a banner is the reward for completing the Week 2 Hunting Party challenge. If you've kept up-to-date with all of Season 6's weekly missions thus far, you'll unlock the following loading screen, which depicts a character standing in the middle of a dark forest while werewolves lurk among the trees. Peer closely enough at the image and you'll spot the silhouette of a banner and a carriage engraved in one of the trees on the right side of the screen.
The carriage in question can be found moldering in the desert just to the north of Paradise Palms. Glide to that location at the beginning of a match, find the carriage, and the banner will appear above it. Collect it as you would any other item and you'll be able to use it as a profile icon.
If you need more helping finding the secret banner, we've marked its location on the map below. You can also watch the video we put together at the top of this story showing you exactly where you need to go to collect the banner. However, as has been the case with previous Hunting Party and Road Trip challenges, the banner will only appear once you've completed the requisite number of challenges and unlocked the aforementioned loading screen.
Week 2's challenges arrived shortly after Fortnite's 6.01 update, and they task players with visiting corrupted areas and using the newly reenabled Shadow Stones during matches, among other missions. Completing these will help level up your Battle Pass, which in turn will unlock cosmetics and other rewards, such as the new Pets. You can see everything up for grabs this season in our Season 6 rewards gallery. For help completing challenges, be sure to check out our Season 6 challenge roundup.
November is here, and although Black Friday 2018 isn't until November 23, some retailers have already begun pulling back the curtain on the deals they'll offer on the big day. Target has released its Black Friday ad, which means you can start preparing for what video games, consoles, accessories, TVs, tablets, and other items you'll to want to buy on the biggest shopping day of the year. You can find the full Target Black Friday ad here, but we've gone in and pulled out all of the gaming deals below. We've also highlighted Target's best gaming deals.
You can get these sale prices online or in store, but as always, stock will be limited. If you want to brave the crowds and get your hands on the items in person, Target stores will be open and offering these deals from 5 PM Thursday, November 22 to 1 AM Friday, November 23. Then--presumably after spending a few hours cleaning up and re-stocking--they'll re-open Friday, November 23 at 7 AM. It's possible certain stores will use different hours, so you might want to double-check closer to Black Friday.
A few video game items are listed as doorbusters in Target's ad. For starters, Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 on both PS4 and Xbox One will be on sale for $45--not a bad discount for a game that just launched last month. Another recent game is getting an even bigger price drop; the starter pack for the toys-to-life space shooter Starlink: Battle for Atlas will be on sale for $40, down from $75.
In terms of hardware doorbusters, you'll be able to get a PlayStation 4 Slim 1TB console with Spider-Man for $200 (for a savings of $100). Also $100 off is a PlayStation VR bundle that comes with the headset, camera, and two Move controllers, as well as copies of Superhot VR and Creed: Rise to Glory, all for $250.
Even many of the non-doorbuster discounts are much better than you'd see during normal sales. Assassin's Creed Odyssey can be had for $35, while Shadow of the Tomb Raider is down to $30. Overwatch and Star Wars Battlefront 2 are down to just $15 each. A Nintendo Switch can be had for its usual price of $300 but with a free copy of Mario Kart 8 Deluxe.
Now it's time for the big list. All of the following games will be available at the prices listed below on Black Friday, but Target says even more games will also be on sale. We'll update this article when we find out what those are. In the mean time, check out the full list and start planning your Black Friday 2018 purchases now.
Black Friday 2018 is just around the corner, and that means a flood of deals are on the horizon. Best Buy is among the latest retailers to share its full ad, and on the game side, it is positively brimming with offers on PS4, Xbox One, and Switch games, along with hardware and accessories.
Best Buy's console deals are limited in number, but they present a good way to pick up any of the big systems. Those looking for a PS4 can get one bundled with Marvel's Spider-Man, which just released in September, for $200. $200 can also get you an Xbox One S Minecraft bundle. If you're instead interested in an Xbox One X, Best Buy has perhaps the best deal we've seen on it: for $430, you get a special-edition Xbox One X that's bundled with November's Battlefield V, plus a second controller. If you're in the market for a Nintendo Switch, you'll get the same offer at places like Target, which is a $300 bundle (the standard price of the system) that includes Mario Kart 8 Deluxe.
The bulk of the gaming offers are on specific games. Among the highlights is the recently released Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 for $45, God of War for $25, and PUBG (Xbox One) for $15. For $30, you can get Assassin's Creed Odyssey, Madden NFL 19, NBA 2K19, or Forza Horizon 4. Switch, which often doesn't get a lot of discounts, has a number of games on sale, including Donkey Kong: Tropical Freeze for $40, Mario + Rabbids: Kingdom Battle for $20, and Monster Hunter Generations Ultimate for $35. 3DS owners can pick up Pokemon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon for $20 each.
Outside of individual games, Best Buy has deals on a variety of accessories, including a 30% discount on all Astro headsets. But some of the best offers it has are for subscriptions: You can get 12 months of PlayStation Plus for $40 or 12 months of Xbox Game Pass for $70. Considering the latter gets you access to certain games you might be buying on sale (like Forza Horizon 4 and Sea of Thieves), it could be a preferable option.
Best Buy is holding a pre-Black Friday sale until November 11, but its actual Black Friday offerings will be available beginning on Thanksgiving Day, November 22, at 5 PM local time. (Specific opening times may vary by state.) You'll also be able to shop online at Best Buy's website. Early access will be available beginning on Sunday, November 18 for My Best Buy Elite and Elite Plus members. Standard My Best Buy members get access on Monday, November 19; essentially, you can sign up for free and get access days ahead of time.
My Best Buy members will get a chance to grab additional hot deals in the Black Friday ad before anyone else. Early Access sales are on Sunday, Nov. 18, for Elite Plus and Elite members and on Monday, Nov. 19, and Tuesday, Nov. 20, for all My Best Buy members
Read on for the full list of game deals, and check out our roundup of all Black Friday deals for much more.
We're another week into Season 6 of Fortnite, which means a new set of challenges is now available to complete on your platform of choice, whether that be PS4, Xbox One, PC, Nintendo Switch, or mobile. As usual, Week 6's challenges are broken up into two categories--Free and Battle Pass--and consist of some fairly straightforward tasks. However, there is one that may give you a bit of trouble if you don't know where to look, so we've put together this handy guide on finding the sheet music and pianos in Pleasant Park.
One of the Hard-level challenges for Battle Pass owners in Week 6 is to find sheet music in Pleasant Park. This itself is simple enough; you'll see a stand with the sheet music in one of the houses in the area, and you'll need to collect it to unlock the next step of this four-stage challenge. Once you've found the sheet music, you'll need to play it on two giant piano keyboards scattered around the island.
You won't need to travel very far to make it to the first piano; it can be found on the hill just to the west of Pleasant Park, fairly close to where the sheet music was located. Once you've made it to the piano, you'll need to jump on the keys in the right order to move on to the next step. Fortunately, you'll see a stand with the sheet music near the keyboard, so all you need to do is follow the order written on it to complete this step. However, you'll need to be alone in the area before you can play the music, as other players who also try to use the same piano will interrupt your progress.
Once you've completed this step, you'll be tasked with collecting another piece of sheet music, this one located in a building in Retail Row. After you've found it, you'll need to head just east of the area to find the second piano. Just as before, play the keys in the right order and you'll complete the challenge. For a closer look at exactly where you need to go, you can watch us complete the challenge in the video at the top of this guide.
With that done, you'll be one step closer to unlocking the new Season 6 cosmetics and rewards. The other challenges from Week 6 are all fairly straightforward. Most require you to either eliminate opponents with a particular weapon or place the new Chiller trap in different matches, all of which can be accomplished with a little persistence. You can see the full list of Week 6 challenges below. For tips on previous missions, be sure to check out our complete Fortnite Season 6 challenge roundup.

Disney's new streaming service will come online in late 2019, Disney CEO Bob Iger announced on a Disney earnings call, CNET reported. Iger also confirmed the service, dubbed Disney+, will come with new live-action shows in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and Star Wars franchises.
Disney+ will be the streaming home for Disney's various existing films and TV shows, which means much of that stuff will stop being available on services such as Netflix starting in 2019. But Disney+ also see an influx of its own original content to tempt subscribers away from the services they already use. The most notable additions are a pair of live-action series Disney is planning for two of its biggest franchises, Star Wars and the MCU.
On the MCU side, Disney is bringing back fan-favorite character Loki, played by Tom Hiddleston, for his own show. The Star Wars series, meanwhile, will spin off from Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, to tell more stories of Cassian Andor, the Rebel spy played by Diego Luna. Both series will see the film actors return to reprise their roles. The Cassian show joins another Star Wars spin-off project, The Mandalorian, created by Iron Man director Jon Favreau.
Sweetening the deal for subscribers to Disney+ are animated series. The new season of the returning Star Wars: The Clone Wars will appear on the service, as well as a Pixar series based on Monsters, Inc. The service will also get a reboot of High School Musical and exclusive movies.
Disney hasn't revealed what the streaming service will cost yet, or the exact date of its launch--or of the release of those new series. But for fans of Star Wars especially, it looks like keeping up with the franchise is going to require a new subscription starting toward the end of 2019.
Rockstar Game's newest release, Red Dead Redemption 2 on PS4 and Xbox One, is a game where you'll want to spend a great deal of time uncovering all of its secrets and details. You can spend 50-plus hours just completing the main story, slowing accumulating wealth and honor. But if you're someone looking for a shortcut--who wants to find a quick path to success while living the life of an outlaw in the last days of the wild west--we've got you covered. Much like the original game and GTA V, Red Dead 2 features an assortment of cheat codes that unlock additional resources, with some injecting odd gimmicks and quirks into your game.
To find the Cheats menu, press the pause button and select the Settings option. In this menu, press Triangle or Y (on PS4 and Xbox One, respectively) to pull up the Cheats menu. From here, you'll find a long list of locked cheats. Initially, you won't know what any of these do or how to unlock them. Many of these codes can be activated by putting in the correct phrase, but others will require some extra time and effort.
In addition to finding passwords while exploring the world, some of which are written into the ground, throughout the game you'll find newspapers for sale in towns, and some of these offer clues as to how to unlock these extra fun options. More newspapers will become available after completing main missions, which you'll see detailed in news articles. While many of these cheats introduce some mostly benign bits of fun--such as keeping your character, Arthur Morgan, perpetually drunk--activating these codes at any time will have some consequences for your save game. Once you activate these codes, all Trophies and Achievements will be deactivated on this particular file. As a result, before trying any of these codes, be sure to make a separate file for your main save.
With over 30 codes to unlock, some of which have some specific requirements, we've collected a list of cheats that we've uncovered thus far. We also have a separate feature discussing some of the most entertaining and best cheats in Red Dead Redemption 2. Be sure to check back with GameSpot as we update this page with new codes, and how to find them.

The second live-action Star Wars TV show for Disney+, Disney's upcoming streaming service, has been revealed. The series will focus on the adventures of Cassian Andor, the character played by Diego Luna in the movie Rogue One, and will go into production next year.
Disney confirmed that Luna will reprise his role. The series will be set before the events of Rogue One, and is described by the studio as a "rousing spy thriller" that will "explore tales filled with espionage and daring missions to restore hope to a galaxy in the grip of a ruthless Empire."
In a statement, Luna said: "Going back to the Star Wars universe is very special for me. I have so many memories of the great work we did together and the relationships I made throughout the journey. We have a fantastic adventure ahead of us, and this new exciting format will give us the chance to explore this character more deeply."
The Andor show does not yet have a title or release date. Disney has also announced that the new streaming service will be called Disney+, and confirmed that they are making a new Marvel series centered on Loki. Disney+ launches in 2019.
Production on The Mandalorian, the first live-action Star Wars show to be announced for Disney+, is currently underway. It is being overseen by Jungle Book director Jon Favreau, and while the cast is yet to be announced, the first image was released last month. We've also had an official description, which stated that the series will "follow the travails of a lone gunfighter in the outer reaches of the galaxy far from the authority of the New Republic." In addition, some of the directors lined up to helm episodes have been revealed, including Thor Ragnarok's Taika Waititi and Jurassic World star Bryce Dallas Howard.
While major change is afoot in the Marvel Cinematic Universe as it moves toward Phase 4, those eager for more from certain existing characters are in luck. Disney and Marvel have confirmed plans to create a Disney+ show centered around Loki, with actor Tom Hiddleston set to return to the role.
Unfortunately, there were few details shared beyond that basic premise. This confirmation came as part of a broader announcement about Disney+, which is now officially the name of the company's upcoming streaming service.
Disney boss Bob Iger shared the news along with the latest earnings report. Disney+ will debut in the United States sometime in late 2019. It's unclear when the Loki show will debut, how many episodes it will consist of, or what the general plot will be. But, hey, it's more Loki with Tom Hiddleston, which seems like good-enough news for now. Alongside this news, Disney confirmed another new Star Wars show.
Word on a Loki show was first reported back in September by Variety, when it revealed there were plans for new series focused on MCU characters who had not starred in their own movies. (Scarlet Witch was another name mentioned.) Each show was reported to consist of 6-8 episodes and be made using a sizable budget. More recently, Variety reported that a new show was also on the way that would feature the Winter Soldier and Falcon.
It remains to be seen what these shows ultimately look like, but it's clear Disney plans on leveraging its biggest brands to help Disney+ compete with Netflix. In addition to the Loki show, we'll also be seeing a live-action Star Wars series called The Mandalorian coming from Jon Favreau.
The latest update for Fortnite has arrived, and it introduces a variety of new content on the Battle Royale and Save the World sides of the game. Update 6.22 is out now--as are Week 7 challenges--and Epic Games has shared the full patch notes that cover all the additions and changes, including some new limited-time modes and a weapon. Here's what's new.
The new gun is the Heavy AR, which was announced through the in-game news feed recently. It comes in Rare, Epic, and Legendary forms, and you'll find it in chests, vending machines, and supply drops, and as floor loot. Another notable item-related change is a significant decrease in the drop rate of the recently added balloons.
The first of the new LTMs is Team Terror. It pits two teams of 32 against each other with the goal of wiping out the opposing side. The wrinkle is that Cube Monsters, the enemies that players had to contend with during the recent Fortnitemares event, will also attack you. Of course, they can drop some nice loot, so it might make sense to deal with them before enemy players.
The second LTM is the returning Blitz. This takes the basic Battle Royale gameplay and speeds things up, as the storm circle begins closing in right from the start of the match. It will also close in more frequently than usual, leading to matches that should last no longer than 15 minutes. To further speed things up, there's more loot to find around the map.
You can check out the patch notes for the Fortnite: Battle Royale below. Head to the Fortnite website to see what's new with the Save the World mode--that includes a continuation of the co-op mode's Fortnitemares event.
Epic Games also recently announced a partnership with the NFL to bring football skins to Fortnite. These will be based on real-world jerseys, and although they're featured on Epic's patch notes page for this update, they're set to arrive later this week. The outfits will be available for purchase from Fortnite's in-game shop, but Epic hasn't announced pricing details yet. All 32 NFL teams will be represented, and Epic says you'll also be able to customize your jersey with any number from 0-99. The skins will be available in the store beginning at 4 PM PT / 7 PM ET on November 9.

Season 6 of Fortnite is underway, which means players across all platforms--PS4, Xbox One, PC, Nintendo Switch, and mobile--have a slew of new cosmetics and other items to earn in Epic's popular battle royale game. Just as in previous seasons, Epic is rolling out a set of challenges every week throughout Season 6. Finishing these will help level up your Battle Pass, which in turn will unlock rewards. If you manage to clear all of the challenges in a given week, you'll also complete a Hunting Party challenge--this season's equivalent of the Road Trip challenges from Season 5.
Just as before, the reward for completing a Hunting Party challenge is a special loading screen, which features a subtle hint pointing to the location of a free Battle Star hidden somewhere around the island. If you complete one week's set of Season 6 challenges, you'll earn the loading screen below, which shows off a group of characters gathered in a farm.
The area depicted in the loading screen is located in the desert directly east of Paradise Palms, and if you peer closely enough, you can notice the faint silhouette of a Battle Star above the tractor in the background of the screen. Fly to the area at the start of the match, head to the lone tractor, and you'll find the Battle Star waiting to be collected. Pick it up and you'll level your Battle Pass up by one tier.
If you need a more visual guide on where to find the Battle Star, you can see the exact location of the farm on the map below. We've also put together a video of us collecting the Star above so you can see exactly where you need to go. However, as was the case with Season 5's Road Trip challenges, the Battle Star will only appear if you've completed the requisite challenges and unlocked the above loading screen; you won't be able to find it if you haven't done the necessary steps.
When you're not robbing folks, riding from town to town, and trying to keep your gang out of trouble in Red Dead Redemption 2, chances are pretty good you'll be hunting. Tracking and killing animals keeps you and your gang fed and earns you crafting materials, as well as goods to sell to make money to get Arthur better equipment. But for any hunter in Red Dead Redemption 2, the ultimate prize are the various Legendary Animals scattered around the map, whose pelts yield unique rewards--if you're canny enough to bring them down.
In Chapter 2, you'll be introduced to your first Legendary Animal in a story mission with Hosea, in which he and Arthur set out to hunt a huge grizzly bear. You can return to the hunt later if you're so inclined, but it's possible to take the bear on your first encounter with it, if you're skilled (or more likely, lucky). If you manage to kill and skin the big grizzly, you'll get a Legendary Bear Pelt, a unique item in the world of Red Dead Redemption 2 that can be used to make special new gear.
The question is, what exactly do you do with the huge Legendary Bear Pelt once you have it? Red Dead 2 isn't very clear on this point. In fact, there are special requirements for using the pelts of Legendary Animals--you can't just sell them to any store in a town, or donate them to Pearson back at your camp. In the case of the Legendary Bear pelt, there's a good chance you won't even have heard of the person yet who you need to interact with in order to use it.
Here's what you need to know about hunting the Legendary Bear, where you'll find it, and what to do once you've killed it.
Where To Find The Bear
The easiest way to get to and deal with the Legendary grizzly is in Chapter 2, when you take on the mission Exit Pursued By a Bruised Ego from Hosea. Arthur and Hosea will head out to find the Baharati Grizzly Bear in the Grizzlies East region, north of O'Creagh's Run, and once you've finished the mission, the bear will be hanging around in the area for you to hunt. Once you've fought off the bear during the mission, Hosea will decide to take his leave of hunting giant killer animals with some "I'm getting too old for this s---" dialogue. At that point, you can choose to stick around and finish what you started and take down the bear.
It's worth noting that the bear is no pushover and it can definitely kill you if you're not careful. If you're not outfitted super well at this point in the game, you might want to take some time in the world to earn better gear and improve Arthur's well-being before you commit to the fight. That said, it's possible to kill the bear here and now--we did it with Arthur's stock weapons that he had at this point in the game.
Bring down the bear and you'll be able to skin it, taking a whole bunch of stuff, including the Legendary Bear Pelt. This is the unique item you need for crafting special clothing you can't get anywhere else.
You've Got The Legendary Bear Pelt--Now What?
Once you have the pelt, you'll probably be pretty confused about what to actually do with it. Regular shopkeepers won't take the pelt off your hands, and neither will Pearson in camp. You need to go to a specific person to deal with the pelt: the Trapper.
If you talk to Pearson, he may well off-handedly mention the Canadian fur trapper who hangs around in the area, which will mark the Trapper's location on your map. He roams around, so make sure to check your map for his icon before heading out. He also has a shop in Saint Denis, located in the southeast corner of the map, in the outdoor market, where you can reliably find him.
When you find the Trapper, you'll be able to check out his goods, all of which are unique clothes made from the pelts of Legendary Animals. The thing is, you'll need more than to just take down the bear if you want the whole outfit. Various Legendary Bear items also require other pelts, as well as for you to spend some money. Here's what you'll need to craft each piece of the Legendary Bear outfit:
Legendary Bear Head Hat: Legendary Bear Pelt, $40,
Completing the outfit also requires the Boar Riding Gloves, which require a Perfect Boar Pelt and two Perfect Rabbit Pelts, and will cost you $15.
Though each of the bear items notes that a Legendary Bear Pelt is required, there's only the one. Once you've taken down the Baharit Grizzly, you'll have fulfilled the Bear Pelt requirement for each clothing item.
What Happens If You Lose Your Bear Pelt?
You'll likely sling the Legendary Bear Pelt onto your horse and then find yourself riding for quite a ways to track down the Trapper, whether you're headed south to Saint Denis or out into the wilderness. In all that travel time, misfortune can easily befall even the most careful of cowboy, and if your horse falls or you're killed, you'll likely lose the Legendary Bear Pelt.
That's okay! Don't panic. Whether you carry the pelt physically to the Trapper or not, once you've killed and skinned the Baharati Grizzly Bear, the pelt is unlocked. That requirement will be fulfilled on the Trapper's list even if you don't actually carry the skin all the way to him. You can still access the clothing items once you have everything you need for the recipes.
There are a whole lot of other Legendary Animals to find out there in the big world of Red Dead Redemption 2--check out our guide on where to locate them all. And try our clothing guide for information about where you can get more clothes to customize Arthur's look.
Each week brings a shuffling of content to Destiny 2, and this week that includes another Ascendant Challenge along with something minor but technically new: the next stage of the murder mystery quest. The Ascendant Challenge, on the other hand, is not actually new, having been recycled from earlier in the season for Forsaken players. But whether you've done it before or not, there's good reason to give it a shot, as Powerful gear awaits you as a reward. Here's where to go and what to do to complete the current Ascendant Challenge.
Before you try to tackle the Ascendant Challenge, the same requirements as always hold true; most notably, you need a Tincture of Queensfoil. This is a consumable item that you'll happen upon while playing in the Dreaming City, although you can also buy them. Using a Tincture gives you the Ascendance buff, which allows you to see a Taken portal. It's this portal you must go through to complete the Ascendant Challenge. Along with a Tincture, you have to grab the Ascendant Challenge bounty from Petra in the Dreaming City; it's through this that you actually get your Powerful gear.
For the current challenge, the portal is located in Rheasilvia. In the northeast corner, head inside a building and go straight as far as you can. Turn right, and then go left in the next area to reach Harbinger's Seclude. Go up a set of stairs and out the doorway on the right. Head straight through this area, through another doorway, and continue straight in the next zone. At the end of a bridge you'll see a statue covered in Taken Blight balls; platform your way up the objects around it and you'll be able to go through the portal on top of its head. Check out the video above for a walkthrough. If you struggle to get up, take out your ghost and you'll see some invisible platforms just off the slide of the area that can help you get up.
Going through the portal transports you to the Keep of Honed Edges in the Ascendant Plane. Platform your way across a series of rocks and you'll find an area with three knights who are immune to damage. Kill all of the other enemies and the barrier protecting a sword will go away, allowing you to pick up the relic.
At this point, more enemies spawn in and one knight will begin attacking you. Kill the knight, and the other two will join the fray along with additional enemies. Take them all out, and you'll again have to platform across a series of rocks, now with enemies to make things more challenging. There is debris moving through the area, and at least certain things you step on will disappear after a short period of time, so make sure not to linger. Make your way toward a platform with a large blue object on it to complete the challenge.
As in previous weeks, the chest you receive at the end of the Ascendant Challenge isn't anything special. But the bounty you get from Petra offers Powerful gear for completing it; this can help to boost your Power level, so ensuring you have the bounty is essential.
We're past the halfway point of Season 6 in Fortnite: Battle Royale. The challenges for Week 7 are available now and feature a nice mix of easy-to-do and multi-part challenges for players to complete as they seek a Victory Royale. Three challenges are offered to all players for free, but four others are reserved for Battle Pass owners. Fortnitemares challenges are now gone, but in their place are Lil' Kev challenges--provided you logged in before the deadline.
As Season 6 of Fortnite: Battle Royale rolls on, new challenges continue to roll out on all platforms--PS4, Xbox One, PC, Nintendo Switch, iOS, and Android. Those feed into the latest Battle Pass, and as with previous seasons, you level that up by playing the game and completing challenges. Every week there will be a new set of tasks for players to complete that unlock Battle Stars and level up the Battle Pass to unlock goodies.
Like in Season 5, weekly challenges are split into two categories. The first is a free set, which are available to all Fortnite players, while the second is for Battle Pass owners. To get a Battle Pass you'll need to cough up 950 V-Bucks in game. If you haven't bought the Battle Pass, you'll be able to complete certain objectives and earn some rewards, but some of the coolest unlocks are locked behind the paid Battle Pass, so if you plan on sinking lots of time into Fortnite, we recommend picking that up.
Although you can pick up a Battle Pass later and go back to unlock any premium rewards you've earned based on the tier that you've already reached, there is one major advantage in doing it at the start of the season. Namely that you'll get bonus XP, which is dished out for just playing the game either alone or with buddies. This XP levels you up and translates to Battle Stars that also level up your pass, so it may be a good idea to get in early if you can.
Alongside the standard challenges, there are also Hunting Party challenges for those who buy the Battle Pass. These operate similarly to the Blockbuster and Road Trip objectives of past seasons, where each one tasks you with completing all challenges from a single week during the season. The reward for each is a loading screen that reveals the location of a hidden Battle Pass tier you can then obtain. Additionally, by completing seven of these, you'll earn a Legendary skin that will remain a mystery for now.
Each week we'll have guides on the trickiest challenges to make things quicker and easier for you. However, this article will serve as a hub for all our guides so, as the season goes on, you'll be able to keep coming back here to get the latest guides as well as ones for previous weeks. This will be especially helpful if you decided to pick up a Battle Pass part of the way into the season. If you're wondering if it's worth the effort, you can take a look at all of Fortnite Season 6's new skins, cosmetics, emotes, sprays, and other items to unlock in this gallery of Fortnite Season 6 Battle Pass rewards.

As part of the recent (and final) Nintendo Direct broadcast centered around Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, Nintendo revealed the final members of the character roster, as well as the fact that even more will released as DLC. It also confirmed exactly who you'll be able to play as right out of the gate, and it hearkens back to the N64 days of the series.
While Ultimate boasts a huge roster with a total of 74-plus characters, the initial lineup is much smaller. As is appropriate for a mash-up like this, the characters you start with all hail from the original Super Smash Bros., consisting of nothing but classics like Mario, Samus, and Link. Here's who you'll start out with:
Mario
Donkey Kong
Link
Samus
Yoshi
Kirby
Fox
Pikachu
Alongside those eight, you'll of course have access to a randomized feature if you can't make up your mind. (If that's a problem, good luck once you have everyone unlocked.)
The Direct presentation filled out the roster with two more characters: Street Fighter's Ken and Pokemon's Incineroar. (Piranha Plant is also coming after launch, but only as a pre-order bonus, as are other DLC fighters.) The company also detailed a huge variety of other aspects of the game, including the ability to adjust handicaps for players (convenient if you're better or worse than a friend), a new Spirits system and mode, new Amiibo figures, and much more.
A new Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Switch bundle launched on November 2, though the game itself releases on December 7. For more, check out our Ultimate pre-order guide.
Fortnite's 6.22 update is now live, bringing a new weapon as well as two limited-time modes to the hit game. While the Fortnitemares event may now be over in Battle Royale, the Halloween spirit carries on in one of this week's LTMs, a brand-new mode dubbed Team Terror.
Much like other team-based LTMs, Team Terror pits two teams of players (in this case, 32 vs. 32) against each other in a battle to be the last side standing. What sets it apart from previous modes, however, is the presence of Cube Monsters, the zombie-like creatures that first appeared during the aforementioned Fortnitemares event. These will spawn around the island as the match rolls on, adding a PvE element to the LTM.
Destroying Cube Monsters will cause them to drop weapons or ammo, giving you an incentive to take down any you come across. Resource and loot drop rates have also been adjusted for the new LTM. The likelihood of floor loot spawning has been increased by 15%, and farming resources have been increased by 75%. You can find more details on Team Terror in Epic's patch notes.
In addition to Team Terror, Epic has brought back a previous LTM this week: Blitz. This is a much faster-paced version of a standard battle royale game; the match begins with the storm already closing in on the island, and the time between storm circles is much shorter than normal, so each match will last about 15 minutes at most. Loot is also much more plentiful in Blitz mode, further speeding the action up.
Beyond the new LTMs, the 6.22 update introduced a new gun to the game: the Heavy Assault Rifle. It's available in Rare, Epic, and Legendary variants and can be found as floor loot or in chests, vending machines, and supply drops. Epic has also reverted the Pumpkin Launcher back to the standard Rocket Launcher and reduced the spawn rate of the new balloons.
Fortnite may not cost a cent to download, but like many other free-to-play games, it offers various ways to spend real-world money, if you're so inclined. Earlier this year, developer Epic began selling an Ace starter pack, and while that is no longer up for purchase in the game, a new pack has taken its place and offers a similar value.
The Summit Striker starter pack is now available from Fortnite's in-game store on all platforms. It can only be purchased once per account, and like the aforementioned Ace pack, it costs $5 and comes with two new cosmetic items: the Summit Striker skin and the Top Notch back bling. You can see how both look in the image below.
In addition to the cosmetics, the Summit Striker starter pack comes with 600 V-Bucks, which you can use toward cosmetics and other in-game purchases. Typically, V-Bucks can only be acquired either by playing Fortnite's paid Save the World mode or purchasing them with money. However, the smallest increment you can buy gets you 1,000 V-Bucks for $10, which makes this starter pack a particularly good value, even if the included skin and back bling don't appeal to you.
Epic has offered several different starter bundles for Fortnite this year, starting with the apply titled Starter Pack that came with the Rogue Agent outfit and the Catalyst back bling. That was subsequently replaced by the Ace Pack, which included the Ace Outfit and Swag Bag back bling to tie into the High Stakes event that was going on at the time. If history is any indication, the Summit Striker pack won't be around for very long, so you'll want to grab it while you can if you're interested.
Epic recently rolled out Fortnite's 6.22 update. It introduced a new weapon to Battle Royale--the Heavy Assault Rifle--and marked the start of two limited-time modes: the returning Blitz mode, and the new Team Terror. Beyond that, a set of NFL skins will be added to Fortnite's in-game store starting November 9.
Fortnite dances have become a mainstay of sporting events since the title exploded in popularity, so it's only fitting to see a real-world sport invade the battle royale game. Developer Epic Games has announced it is partnering with the NFL to offer a new set of football skins in Fortnite based on real-world jerseys, and they're set to arrive later this week, following the new update.
Starting Friday, November 9, NFL outfits will be available for purchase from Fortnite's in-game store. Epic hasn't announced pricing details for the new skins, but you'll be able to choose between uniforms of all 32 teams in the NFL. Epic says you'll also be able to customize your jersey with any number from 0-99. The skins will be available in the store beginning at 4 PM PT / 7 PM ET.
The NFL outfits aren't the only new items on the way to the game this week. Fortnite's in-game News feed is teasing that a new weapon--the Heavy Assault Rifle--is "coming soon" to the title. Epic hasn't announced when the new gun will be added, but it will presumably arrive as part of this week's Fortnite patch.
A lot of other things have been transpiring in Fortnite recently, most notably the major world-changing one-time event that took place in the game on November 4. At the end of the Halloween-themed Fortnitemares event, the mysterious purple cube that has been a fixture of the game since it first appeared toward the end of Season 5 exploded, sending players to a strange realm of light.
Once players were transported back to the island, they noticed that the vortex that was in the middle of Loot Lake has now been replaced by a strange Stonehenge-like monument. Epic has also rolled out a set of Li'l Kev challenges--named after the community's nickname for the purple cube--that will give you the chance to unlock the new Li'l Kev back bling.
After sharing a tantalizingly brief teaser trailer back in March, Nintendo formally revealed its next Super Smash Bros. game at E3 2018. Dubbed Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, the new installment in the beloved fighting series arrives on Nintendo Switch later this year, and while there are still undoubtedly some details we don't yet know about it, Nintendo revealed a ton of information about the game in the months following its big unveiling, giving us a good idea of what to expect.
To catch you up on all of the biggest details Nintendo has revealed about the game so far, we've compiled everything we know about Super Smash Bros. Ultimate below, from the game's release date and new characters to the many changes being made to its gameplay. We'll continue to update this list as new details emerge, so be sure to check back for the latest information on Nintendo's highly anticipated mascot fighter.
Prior to its full reveal at E3, there was much speculation over whether Super Smash Bros. Ultimate would be a new installment in the series or an expanded port of the Wii U entry, in the vein of Mario Kart 8 Deluxe. Nintendo cleared up any misconceptions during a Q&A session at the expo, confirming that Ultimate is indeed a brand-new title built for Nintendo Switch.
How Many New Characters Are There?
Super Smash Bros. Ultimate introduces 11 new fighters to the series' roster, with an additional six coming as DLC. Nintendo revealed the first three of these newcomers--Inkling, Ridley, and Daisy--during its E3 presentation. Inkling and Ridley are both brand-new additions to the series, with unique movesets and play styles drawn from their respective franchises. Inkling can splatter opponents with ink and use a variety of weapons taken from Splatoon, such as Splat Bombs and the Splat Roller; Ridley, meanwhile, can spew fire and spear other combatants with his tail.
Daisy, on the other hand, isn't an entirely new addition to the roster, but rather an Echo Fighter--a clone of an existing character, in the vein of Lucina and Dark Pit. Her moveset and play style are based on Princess Peach, although she boasts some different characteristics to set her apart. As Nintendo further explained during a dedicated Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Direct in August, Echo Fighters can either be displayed as separate characters on the selection screen or stacked atop the fighter they're based on.
Everyone! Super Smash Bros. Ultimate features the largest roster in the series to date with more than 70 confirmed fighters (and six more DLC characters). Every fighter who has ever appeared in a Smash Bros. game will return in Ultimate, including all of the ones released as DLC for the Wii U and 3DS installments--such as Bayonetta, Corrin, and Mewtwo--as well as third-party characters like Sonic, Cloud, and Street Fighter's Ryu.
The roster even encompasses characters who have previously only appeared in a single Super Smash Bros. game, including Pichu and Young Link (whose sole appearances were in 2001's Melee), and Wolf and Snake from 2008's Brawl. Longtime Metal Gear Solid voice actor David Hayter revealed he is reprising his role as the latter in Ultimate, and Snake's signature stage, Shadow Moses Island, has also been confirmed to return.
Not all of these characters will be available from the outset; Nintendo revealed that the game's initial fighter select screen will only consist of eight characters--the same number as the starting roster in the first Super Smash Bros. for N64. However, the company says the conditions for unlocking characters have been streamlined this time around, and new fighters will be doled out frequently, giving players the feeling that they're constantly making progress.
How Many Stages Are There?
Nintendo confirmed during its August Direct presentation that there will be 103 different stages in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, each of which also boasts a Battlefield and Final Destination form. Taken together, this amounts to more than 300 levels to fight on. Moreover, Nintendo is introducing a new feature to the game called Stage Morph; when toggled on, it will cause one stage to transform into another in the middle of a match.
The majority of the stages in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate are taken from previous installments in the series. Among those that have been confirmed thus far are Spirit Train and Tortimer Island from Super Smash Bros. for 3DS; Princess Peach's Castle and Great Bay from Melee; New Pork City and Frigate Orpheon from Brawl; and Mario Galaxy and Gaur Plain from Super Smash Bros. for Wii U. That said, there will also be a handful of new stages in the game. At E3, Nintendo revealed Great Plateau Tower (based on The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild) and Splatoon's Moray Towers, while the August Direct gave us a look at New Donk City from Super Mario Odyssey and Simon Belmont's signature stage, Dracula's Castle.
What Else Is Different?
Aside from all of the new characters, stages, and items, Nintendo is making a ton of mechanical and balance changes in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. Game director Masahiro Sakurai says the amount of tweaks in the game could number in the "tens of thousands," and they range from subtle visual upgrades--like Wii Fit Trainer's refined face--to reworked movesets and other dramatic overhauls.
One of the most notable changes is the pace of the game. Combat in Ultimate feels speedier than in Super Smash Bros. for Wii U, resulting in quicker and more intense matches. Moreover, Nintendo has introduced some new techniques, such as directional air dodges, and simplified other ones, like short hop attacks, improving the game's accessibility while also allowing for more skillful play. In keeping with this emphasis on speedier matches, players will dish out more damage in one-on-one battles, while those who excessively dodge will now be penalized with slowed dodge movement and a smaller window of invulnerability.
Most Final Smashes have also undergone some dramatic changes in Ultimate. Some existing specials, like Pikachu's Volt Tackle and Sonic's Super Sonic transformation, are now uncontrollable, lightning-fast attacks, while other characters have received new Final Smashes entirely. This time, Link fires a devastating Ancient Arrow, while Pit barrels through opponents in the Lightning Chariot. Nintendo says that nearly every Final Smash has been reworked in Ultimate to be more immediate, allowing players to get back into the fray more quickly.
Likewise, many returning characters have received significant overhauls in Ultimate, both in terms of their appearance and their movesets. Ganondorf, for instance, is modeled after his classic look in The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, and he now uses his sword for his smash attacks. Princess Zelda's new model is based on her appearance in A Link Between Worlds, and Link dons his Champion's Tunic from Breath of the Wild. Shulk can now choose Monado Arts directly rather than having to cycle through them, while Palutena's special attacks have been streamlined.
What Are Spirits?
In the place of trophies, Super Smash Bros. Ultimate introduces a new type of collectible called Spirits. These come in the form of character artwork from a variety of different games and can be equipped to power up your fighter. There are two types of Spirits: Primary, which enhance your character's stats, and Support, which can be attached to the Primary spirit and confer additional abilities, such as autoheal. Spirits also come in several different classes, ranging from Novice to Legendary, and three power types: Attack (Red), Grab (Green), and Shield (Blue).
Spirits can be acquired in the aptly titled Spirits Mode. Here, you'll need to battle against a fighter that somewhat resembles the Spirit you're challenging; for instance, to acquire the Lakitu and Spiny Spirit, you'll first need to defeat Iggy Koopa and his team of tiny, red Bowsers. These Spirit battles also typically feature some sort of stage hazards such as poisonous floors, so you'll need to think about the appropriate Support Spirits to equip in order to succeed.
Can I Use GameCube Controllers?
Super Smash Bros. Ultimate will support several different controller options, including the Switch Pro controller, a single Joy-Con, and many Smash fans' preferred gamepad, the GameCube controller. As was the case with Super Smash Bros. for Wii U, the latter will be compatible with the console via a separate adapter. This peripheral plugs into the Switch dock and works with both standard wired GameCube controllers and the wireless WaveBird.
Those who already own the Wii U GameCube controller adapter will be able to use it with Super Smash Bros. Ultimate on Switch. Nintendo will also release a new controller adapter later this year, along with a new line of Smash-branded wired GameCube controllers. Both are already available for pre-order from various retailers such as Amazon and GameStop; the adapter retails for $20, while the GameCube controllers run for $30 each.
Will It Work with Amiibo?
Nintendo confirmed Super Smash Bros. Ultimate will be compatible with the existing range of Smash Bros. Amiibo, and data saved to those figures will carry over to the new game. The company has also announced it will release several new Smash Bros. Amiibo. Nintendo showcased figures of Ridley and Inkling, the first two new fighters announced for Ultimate, during its E3 2018 presentation, and we've since also gotten a look at Amiibo of King K. Rool, Daisy, Ken, Isabelle, and several other characters.
In addition to the new figures, Nintendo announced it will also produce Amiibo for all of the returning characters in Ultimate. The company has specifically confirmed Wolf, Ice Climbers, Young Link, and Pichu will receive Amiibo, although that will presumably apply to other returning fighters such as Snake as well. The Ridley, Inkling, and Wolf figures will launch alongside Super Smash Bros. Ultimate this December and retail for $16 each, while the other Amiibo will arrive in 2019. Reprints of many previous Smash Bros. Amiibo will also be available later this year for $13.
Will I Need to Pay to Play Online?
While online play on Nintendo Switch had been free for most of the console's life on the market, Super Smash Bros. Ultimate (and other online-enabled games like Splatoon 2, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, and Pokemon Let's Go, Pikachu and Let's Go, Eevee) now require a subscription to the Nintendo Switch Online service in order to play them online. Subscriptions are available for one month (US $4 / £3.49 / AU $6), three months (US $8 / £7 / AU $12), and 12 months (US $20 / £18 / AU $30). Nintendo also offers a Family Plan, which allows up to eight accounts to share one membership for US $35 / £31.49 / AU $55 a year.
Will There Be DLC?
Yes, Nintendo has confirmed it plans to release five additional fighters for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate following the game's launch. Each fighter will come bundled in a set with a new stage and several music tracks for $6. Nintendo will also offer a Fighters Pass, which costs $25 and gives players access to all five DLC sets when they release. According to director Masahiro Sakurai, the DLC characters have already been settled on. While fans got to vote on which fighters they wanted to see added to Super Smash Bros. for Wii U and 3DS, Sakurai notes that this time Ultimate's DLC characters were all selected by Nintendo.
On top of those five fighters, Nintendo will also release a sixth additional character for Ultimate shortly after its launch: Piranha Plant. Everyone who either purchases the game through the Eshop or registers their copy on My Nintendo by January 31, 2019 will receive a free download code for the fighter. If you miss the cutoff date, Nintendo will also offer Piranha Plant as a paid DLC character separate from those included in the Fighters Pass. The company says it expects Piranha Plant to be available "around" February 2019.
When's the Release Date?
Super Smash Bros. Ultimate launches exclusively for Nintendo Switch later this year, on December 7.
Nintendo is releasing a new line of Amiibo for each of Super Smash Bros. Ultimate's new and returning characters. We've already gotten a look at figures of Wolf, Ridley, and Inkling, and during the final Super Smash Bros. Direct presentation, Nintendo revealed another handful of Amiibo and when they'll arrive.
The aforementioned Wolf, Ridley, and Inkling figures are launching alongside the game on December 7. King K. Rool and Ice Climbers Amiibo will follow next year on February 15, while figures of Young Link, Daisy, Pichu, and newcomers Isabelle and Ken will all release sometime in 2019.
On top of those Amiibo, Nintendo announced it will release a figure of the surprise DLC character Piranha Plant, which game director Masahiro Sakura says has a "nice curved form to it." The Piranha Plant Amiibo is likewise launching on February 15, while the character itself is slated to join the game "around" February.
In addition to the new figures, Super Smash Bros. Ultimate will be compatible with all existing Smash Bros. Amiibo. A number of these figures will be re-released near the game's launch. However, as before, some will only be available at certain retailers. The reprinted Pac-Man Amiibo, for example, is exclusive to Best Buy stores.
Smash Bros. isn't the only upcoming Switch game to receive Amiibo. Blizzard also announced a Loot Goblin Amiibo figure for Diablo III: Eternal Edition. This figure is notable for having a unique design and packaging than other Amiibo, and it's available exclusively at GameStop.
Xbox One players are in for a great weekend, as two big games are free to play for the next few days. PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds and PES 2019 are available for free through November 11, though they will revert to their standard price after that time.
PUBG remains one of the biggest games in the world, and is largely credited with kicking off the current trend of battle royale games that has since been followed by Fortnite, Call of Duty: Black Ops 4, and soon Battlefield V. PES 2019, meanwhile, might not have the same popularity as FIFA 19, but Konami's Pro Evo series has enjoyed widespread critical acclaim in recent years, and this season is no different.
In GameSpot's PES 2019 review, critic Richard Wakeling awarded the game a 9/10, writing: "The lack of licences for top-tier leagues remains a disheartening sticking point, but PES continues to make brilliant strides on the pitch, building on what was already an incredibly satisfying game of football to produce one of the greatest playing football games of all time. It might be lacking off the pitch, but put it on the field against the competition and a famous giant killing wouldn't be all that surprising."
Our PUBG review, meanwhile, awarded the shooter an 8/10. "PUBG's technical shortcomings can undermine its broader achievements on rare occasions, but they don't override your desire to continue playing," wrote critic Michael Higham. "Each phase of a match presents a different type of tension that is equal parts thrilling and terrifying, driven by the insatiable desire to be the last person (or squad) standing. Whether you play solo or in a group, successfully executing adaptive tactics to win intense, high-stakes firefights makes for an incredibly rewarding experience. Every player has unique stories of their most memorable matches, and even after hundreds of hours, PUBG continues to inspire rousing tales of victory and defeat."
