Black Friday 2018 Early Ad Deals: Target, Walmart, Best Buy Sales On Games, TVs, Movies, And More

By Chris Pereira on Nov 14, 2018 12:22 am

Black Friday 2018 is officially a week and a half out, but with some stores offer deals early, it's technically just a few days away. With the new year fast approaching, the biggest shopping day of the year (at least in the United States) is almost upon us.

Black Friday officially takes place on November 23, but we now have a great sense of what to expect on the deals front. We started out by getting Target's ad early, giving us a look at what will be on sale across games, tech, and entertainment, and that's been followed by several other huge ones, Walmart and Best Buy. Everything from 4K TVs to PS4, Xbox One X, and Nintendo Switch are on sale, not to mention games and movies ranging from Assassin's Creed Odyssey and Star Wars to Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 and Deadpool 2.

As always, tracking what's on sale and where can be an overwhelming task, as can determining what the best deals are. We'll be doing our best to help you stay on top of this so you can make the most of Black Friday (and Cyber Monday immediately after that) without having to drown in a sea of circulars and hastily scrawled post-it notes. Below, you'll find our complete coverage of the event; be sure to check back as more ads are revealed in the lead up to the big day.

Platforms And TVs

PS4

All PS4 Deals

If you're looking for all things related to PS4, we've collected every deal announced so far for the platform--including consoles, accessories, and games--in one story. Among the highlights is a $200 PS4 bundle that comes with Marvel's Spider-Man at Target.

Cheapest PS4 Consoles

Those specifically hunting for a PlayStation 4 are in luck, as the console will be on sale in addition to many of its games. We'll be keeping an eye on all the ads as they come out to find out exactly where you should head for a PS4.

Xbox One

All Xbox One Deals

For a look at all things Xbox One, we've put together a roundup of every announced deal related to the system. That includes deals on consoles, games, and accessories. One of the best offers we've seen so far is a $400 Xbox One X bundle with a whopping $120 in Kohl's Cash from (you guessed it) Kohl's.

Cheapest Xbox One Consoles

Whether you're hunting for an Xbox One S or an Xbox One X, you'll have some options this year. We're keeping track of the best offers on the consoles to help make it easy for you to pick one up.

Best Xbox One Deals

Say you're not interested in wading through a huge number of deals--there are dozens upon dozens of games on sale--but want some good prices. We've selected what we think are the top deals of interest to those with an Xbox One (or anyone just now picking one up).

Nintendo Switch

All Nintendo Switch Deals

Nintendo Switch has had a big second year on the market, and whether you're looking for discounted games or some kind of sale involving system itself, you'll have at least a limited number of options to choose from. That includes a free copy of Mario Kart 8 Deluxe when buying the console at Target.

Cheapest Nintendo Switch Consoles

Fortunately for those looking to pick up a Nintendo Switch this year, there will be Black Friday deals at a number of retailers. However, many of them appear to be identical and favor a free pack-in game rather than actual discounts on the standard price.

TVs

All TV Deals

TVs are always one of the hot-ticket items on Black Friday, and 2018 is no exception. We've rounded up all of the discounts so far and will continue to do so as they roll in.

Stores

Walmart

Walmart Game Deals

Walmart has a huge ad full of games on sale, along with consoles and accessories. One of its best deals see Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 drop to just $40 despite its relatively recent release.

Walmart Entertainment Deals

You'll find not just games on sale at Walmart, but a ton of movies and TV shows, too. Whether you're looking for DVDs or Blu-rays, you're in luck, while 4K fans can find some good films in the sub-$10 range, which is atypical.

Walmart Tech Deals

If you're more interested in how you obtain and consume your entertainment and games, you might be in the market for a TV, streaming device, or soundbar. If that's the case, Walmart is among the places you'll find a number of cheap options.

Best Buy

Best Buy Game Deals

Best Buy has some sort of sale on each of the main consoles--PS4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch--but its lineup of deals on individual games is frankly staggering. We've compiled the massive list of everything on sale in one place.

Best Buy Entertainment Deals

Alongside all of its games, Best Buy was a hide array of movies and TV shows on sale, spanning DVDs, Blu-rays, and 4Ks. In particular, there are some sweet sales for Marvel and Star Wars fans.

Best Buy Tech Deals

As is to be expected from Best Buy, a huge portion of it is dedicated to all things technology, including TVs. We've rounded up everything you can expect to see this year at the retailer.

Target

Target Game Deals

Target was the first big store out of the gate to release its Black Friday ad early, and it included a ton of stuff of interest to game fans. You'll find a PS4 with Spider-Man for $200, among other things.

Target's Best Game Deals

If you're interested in what Target will have to offer on the gaming front without wading through a long list, we've rounded up some recommendations on the best deals it has this year. This covers consoles (with deals on Switch, PS4, and Xbox One) and games for those systems.

Target Entertainment Deals

Alongside its game offerings, Target's early Black Friday ad gave us a look at its many movies and TV shows that will be on sale, and it includes some great sub-$10 4K movies.

Target Tech Deals

Black Friday is always a great opportunity to pick up a new TV for relatively cheap, and 4K TVs are among the variety of tech items you'll find discounted at Target.

Microsoft Store

Microsoft Store Game Deals

Microsoft's retail outfit always has Black Friday deals that include Xbox One consoles, and this year is no exception. While it hasn't yet revealed offers on individual games, we know Microsoft Store is among your options for getting a $400 Xbox One X.

Kohl's

Kohl's Game Deals

Kohl's doesn't sell many games, but it oftentimes has some excellent deals come Black Friday. 2018 is no exception, as it might be the best place to buy an Xbox One X.

Kohl's Tech Deals

Kohl's might primarily be a clothes retailer, but it does sell a limited number of electronics, like TVs. These are discounted in addition to netting you some Kohl's Cash.

Sam's Club

Sam's Club Game And TV/Tech Deals

Although you'll need a membership to take advantage, Sam's Club has some good offers on gaming and tech items, although its game deals are only on PS4 and Xbox One and simply match what we've seen elsewhere.

Games

Assassin's Creed Odyssey

2018's new entry in the Assassin's Creed series will be discounted on Black Friday, despite the fact that it only released in late October.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 4

Black Ops 4 represented a significant shift for the Call of Duty series, dumping a traditional single-player campaign and introducing a battle royale mode, Blackout. It's another game that, despite having only just been released, will be on sale come Black Friday.

Forza Horizon 4

Playground Games' terrific open-world driving game, Forza Horizon 4, is among the many games you'll find on sale this Black Friday. While you can play it through Xbox Game Pass, those looking to buy their own copy have numerous options.

God of War

God of War has been one of the year's standout games so far. It will be discounted this Black Friday, and thanks to the fact that it came out earlier in the year, the savings are even greater than with some of its fellow triple-A games that launched more recently.

SoulCalbur VI

The newest entry in the SoulCalibur series is a good one, and it of course brings with it a guest character--The Witcher's Geralt. Despite having only come out in late October, you'll find it for nearly half price on Black Friday.

NBA 2K19

The most popular basketball game series returns with another strong entry in 2018. As with all of the year's big annual sports games, NBA 2K19 sees a nice discount on Black Friday.

Tips And Previews

When Do Black Friday Sales Begin?

It's difficult enough to keep track of all the deals, but further complicating matters are the way in which sales are staggered. No longer can you expect to just show up on Friday (or Thursday night) and be early--sales are starting hours or even days before then. We've done our best to compile all of this information in a digestible way.

What to Expect

We should have a firm idea of everything that will be on sale well in advance of Black Friday, but while we wait for all of the ads to come in, we've previewed what to expect from this year's big day. That may help you determine if you should buy something now or wait for a possible deal later this month.

Black Friday Tips

Anybody can walk into a story on Black Friday or browse to a retailer's website, but there are tips and tricks to best approaching it. We've put together a guide to help you make the most of all the big sales.

Destiny 2's Ascendant Challenge Location Guide (Nov. 13-20)

By Chris Pereira on Nov 14, 2018 12:04 am

The weekly reset in Destiny 2 has taken place. For this week, we aren't seeing the introduction of a bunch of new content, but the missions offered by Petra in the Dreaming City have restarted once again. We're back to the start of a three-week cycle as the Awoken continue to battle the curse--something Petra acknowledges in her dialogue when you first speak with her. She also has the typical bounty for the Ascendant Challenge, which is a return to the challenge first seen in Week 5 of this season. Here's what you need to do and where to go to find the portal that can net you some Powerful gear.

Like in past weeks, the Ascendant Challenge involves using a specific item (a Tincture of Queensfoil) to receive the Ascendance buff. This allows you to see a Taken portal that sends you to the Ascendant Plane to do a mission of sorts. But the portal's location and your objective has been different each week, and that's true for Week 5. Before starting, though, be sure to grab the corresponding bounty from Petra, as that's the key to earning a piece of Powerful gear.

No Caption Provided
Gallery image 1Gallery image 2Gallery image 3Gallery image 4Gallery image 5Gallery image 6Gallery image 7

This week's portal is found inside a Lost Sector (Bay of Drowned Wishes) located right near Dreaming City's landing zone in Divalian Mists. You'll move to the midway point of the Lost Sector, killing things until a little before you reach a door that's locked. (You can skip the enemies, but killing them will likely be easier.) If you've used your Tincture of Queensfoil, you'll see the portal and can jump through to reach the Ascendant Plane location, Agonarch Abyss.

Unfortunately, there's a good deal of platforming involved here. You'll make your way down to a temple where a large tree is. Blight balls spawn in that slow your movement, and you'll have to deal with a pair of wizards who spawn in additional Thrall enemies. Take out the wizards and you're all done. You can see this all in our video guide.

The chest that you can then open is, as always, nothing special. But finishing the Ascendant Challenge completes the bounty from Petra, which nets you a piece of Powerful gear.

When you speak to Petra, you'll notice she acknowledges that things have returned to the way they were three weeks ago. She's again offering the first of the three story missions where you rescue her associates. Meanwhile, Bungie has announced there are changes coming for Exotics, Masterwork Cores, and Iron Banner.

Fallout 76 Is Live Early

By Kevin Knezevic on Nov 14, 2018 12:03 am

Fallout 76, the newest installment in Bethesda's post-apocalyptic RPG series, officially launches for PS4, Xbox One, and PC on Wednesday, November 14, but some players won't have to wait until then to start exploring the irradiated ruins of West Virginia. Users on Reddit have pointed out that the Fallout 76 servers are now live ahead of its release date, so you can jump in a little early if you have the game.

Unlike previous entries in the series, Fallout 76 is always-online and requires a persistent internet connection, even if you plan on playing solo. GameSpot booted up Fallout 76 on Xbox One today and can verify that its servers are indeed live. If you managed to get your hands on an early copy of the game or have it pre-loaded on PC, that means you won't have to wait until November 14 to start playing.

That said, given the fact that it still isn't widely available, you may not run into many other players in Fallout 76 just yet. While the game can still work as a solo adventure, it places a heavy emphasis on multiplayer. For instance, Fallout 76 completely eschews NPCs; the only human characters you'll encounter in the game are other players, making for a very different kind of RPG than previous Fallout games.

Taking such a radically different approach with Fallout 76 was "scary," Bethesda admits, but the publisher is committed to supporting the title. Bethesda boss Pete Hines said Fallout 76 servers will be up "forever." He told GameSpot, "We're going to keep going as long as people keep playing it and it shows no sign of slowing down."

In the meantime, PS4 players still have a little more time to claim some Fallout 76 freebies. From now until November 14, you can get three Fallout 76 avatars and a theme for your PS4, whether you've pre-ordered the game or not. There are other bonuses available; you can read more about them in our Fallout 76 pre-order guide.

Destiny 2's New Exotic Thunderlord Is Live, Here's How To Get It

By Phil Hornshaw on Nov 13, 2018 11:54 pm

We've updated this post with the details for the third and final step of Destiny 2's Murder Mystery quest, which unlocked on November 13. Here's what you need to know to complete all three steps and claim Thunderlord.

Destiny 2's Festival of the Lost has ended, but there's still one piece of Destiny's Halloween-themed event to go. It's a murder mystery quest line Bungie teased at the start of the Festival, in which players are tasked with figuring out what happened to Master Ives, the Cryptarch formerly seen in the Reef back in the first Destiny.

Ives' death is both a story point and a quest to get a new Exotic weapon. That gun is Thunderlord, a lightning-slinging machine gun from the original Destiny that, until now, hadn't shown up in the sequel. Unlocking it is a multi-step but relatively low-level quest, whose first step unlocked on October 30, the second on November 6, and the final on November 13. With that last step, you'll return to some familiar territory if you've played Destiny 1: Earth's Cosmodrome in Old Russia.

To start it, head to Amanda Holliday in the Tower, where you'll receive Master Ives' journal. The pursuit item is colored gold, like other Exotic weapons quests, and requires players to search out the missing pages from Ives' diary out in the world. Here's how to solve the mystery and get Thunderlord.

Step 1: The Crytarch's Journal

Clearing that first step is actually pretty easy to accomplish. There are 10 pages to acquire, and players can get them either by finding Legendary engrams in various activities--including Gambit, the Crucible, Strikes, and everything else you already do in Destiny 2--or from killing tougher Fallen enemies in the EDZ on Earth.

Actually snagging all the pages is an easy feat to knock out if you head to the EDZ. You're looking for Fallen with orange-colored health bars, which are otherwise known as Elite bad guys. You need the orange enemies in particular; you won't get pages from Majors, who have yellow health bars, like the ones designated as high-value targets, for instance.

No Caption Provided

The quickest way to find Elite Fallen to kill in the EDZ is to find a public event and join it. The Glimmer Mining event that takes place in various places in the EDZ is a solid bet, especially if you knock it up to its Heroic level. You won't get a page for every Elite you kill, but the drop rate is pretty high--one or two public events should do it.

If you don't feel like messing around on Earth, you can also spend some shards at the Cryptarch in the Tower to quickly gather up the Legendary engrams you need to complete the step. That method will cost you 250 Legendary shards if you buy 10 engrams to get all 10 pages. Given how easy it is to get the pages in the EDZ or by earning Legendaries organically, though, you probably don't need to waste the shards.

Step 2: Hunting The Fallen

The second step is almost as quick and easy as the first. It returns you to the EDZ, this time to complete four Lost Sectors. You'll start with a batch of three that need cleaning out: Atrium, Widow's Walk, and Terminus East. If you're not familiar with the names, those are the three Lost Sectors located in the Trostland area of the EDZ.

No Caption Provided

You'll find Atrium in the church where Devrim Kay hangs out, Widow's Walk in the northwest corner of the area, and Terminus East in the northeast corner. Once you've wrecked the Major enemies in all three, you'll get a new step that directs you to yet another Lost Sector, called Whispered Falls.

No Caption Provided

Jump on your Sparrow and drive west to the Outskirts area, and look for the Lost Sector up in the hills in the west end of the area. It's north of the narrower portion of the map you drive through to access Winding Cove.

Kill the Major in Whispered Falls and you'll need to wait for Amanda Holliday to summon you back to the Tower. She'll eventually give you new coordinates, which will send you to the third and final stage of the quest.

Step 3: Return To The Cosmodrome

No Caption Provided

Your final step for the mission unlocks when you're prompted to return to Amanda Holliday. She'll identify a strange teleporter in Earth's European Dead Zone you should go check out--it's actually a Mission that starts you on the final step of the quest. To get there, warp into the Winding Cove location in the EDZ, then ride east toward the Outskirts. You'll find the mission start in the northern part of the canyon in the Whispered Falls Lost Sector. Fight your way inside to reach the teleporter.

Starting the mission warps you back to the Cosmodrome, the place where Destiny players first started way back in the beginning of the original game. You're basically following the path of the very first Destiny mission, fighting through Fallen into the Wall around the Cosmodrome. Keep following the mission markers until you get inside, where you'll face a big battle with a Fallen Captain called Kikliss, Murderer, and a huge batch of minion enemies.

No Caption Provided

This is the toughest fight of the mission by far, so bring your best guns and try to keep moving. Smaller Fallen enemies will continually spawn into the battle, so Supers that take out lots of enemies at once or are good for crowd control will help. Once you damage Kikliss enough, a giant Servitor will join the fight, which makes it even more annoying. Try to keep space between you and Kikliss while you focus your fire on the Servitor, since it can make other enemies invincible--including the boss.

Killing the Servitor should make it a little easier to take down Kikliss, which is your main objective for the mission. Once you do, you'll be prompted to fight your way back out the Cosmodrome. Back outside, you'll get a message from Amanda Holliday suggesting that this could be your last time back in the Cosmodrome, and you'll see an objective prompt reading, "Leave The Cosmodrome?" It seems Destiny 2 is suggesting there might be more secrets to find hidden in Russia, so take your time in leaving to look around. We haven't found whatever secret the game is hinting at just yet, but we'll update this guide when we do.

No Caption Provided

If you approach the teleporter near where you started, you'll be sent back to orbit and prompted to return to Holliday in the Tower. When you do, she'll wonder about what the Fallen who killed Master Ives were really after, but she'll also thank you for avenging his death. Your final reward is a "trinket" she found in his stuff, which is none other than the sparking machine gun Thunderlord. The Exotic goes in your Heavy weapon slot, and carries the "Reign Havoc" perk, which causes lightning strikes from the sky as you rack up kills with bullets.

By Chris Reed on Nov 13, 2018 11:42 pm

November 23 marks Black Friday this year, though deals will be popping up before then. We're learning about much of what will be on sale this year weeks ahead of time, and that includes the full ad for Walmart's Black Friday offering. Below, we've broken out everything related to gaming--games, consoles, and accessories--to help you plan your shopping. let's look at all the upcoming deals.

The Xbox One S Minecraft Creators Bundle will be marked down to $199, and you'll be able to save $100 on an Xbox One X, bringing the price down to $399. When it comes to games, it might be quicker to list the ones that won't be on sale. There will be tons of great deals, making Black Friday a good time to grab anything you've had an eye on recently. Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 will be marked down to $40, which is $5 cheaper than it will be at Target and Best Buy. Assassin's Creed Odyssey is dipping to $35, as is Destiny 2: Forsaken Legendary Collection. And while they're not getting discounts, Walmart is offering exclusive steelbook versions of Fallout 76 and Red Dead Redemption 2 for $60 each.

And for once, Nintendo Switch owners won't be left out in the cold. While Nintendo's big games rarely go on sale, Walmart will be offering Black Friday discounts on a good number of them. For $35 each, you'll be able to get Arms, Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze, The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, Kirby Star Allies, Monster Hunter Generations Ultimate, and Xenoblade Chronicles 2, among others.

As with many other retailers, Walmart isn't waiting until Friday to begin offering its discounts. The deals begin at 6 PM local time on Thursday, November 22 (Thanksgiving in the US). Online shoppers will get access to the discounts even earlier; Black Friday deals at Walmart.com will start on Wednesday, November 21 at 10 PM ET (7 PM PT).

You can find the full list of discounted items for each platform below. And if you want to see all the other items Walmart will have on sale, check out the full Walmart Black Friday ad.

Anyone looking to buy Battlefield V can trade in any of these first-person shooters to get an additional $10 toward your purchase of Battlefield V on top of the trade-in value. Buy an Xbox One, and you can save $20 on three months' worth of Xbox Live Gold or an additional wireless controller. (Note that much better console deals will be available next week.) Nintendo Switch owners can also pick up any two Nintendo Labo kits for $99 total.

As for the individual games on sale, Xbox One owners can grab Halo Wars 2 for $30, Switch owners can get Super Bomberman R Shiny Edition for $20, and PS4 owners can dive into The Elder Scrolls Online: Tamriel Unlimited for $10. You can find more discounted games below, or check here for the full list of deals and recent price drops.

But again, before you buy anything, you'll probably want to check the Black Friday deals to see if the items you want will be cheaper next week.

PS4 Black Friday 2018 Deals: The Best Place To Buy A PlayStation 4

By Chris Pereira on Nov 13, 2018 11:31 pm

In terms of sheer numbers, deals on individual games represent the bulk of the gaming offers we see on Black Friday. Based on what we've seen so far this year, that will again be the case, but it doesn't mean you have no cheap options for picking up a console like PS4.

Sony has announced its official Black Friday promotions on PS4, and it reflects what we've seen in the early ads we've seen released to date do include some very nice PlayStation 4 offers. One of Target's best gaming deals is a doorbuster that gets you a 1TB PS4 Slim and a copy of Spider-Man for only $200. You'll find an identical sale at both Best Buy, Walmart, and now Sam's Club, too. You could argue that would be a nice price for the system alone, but to get a $60 game that was just released in September makes it even sweeter, and it seems you'll be able to take advantage of this at numerous retailers. Unfortunately, those looking for a PS4 Pro appear to be out of luck (so far).

While this being available through at least stores is encouraging, if you're interested, you'll want to head to your local store (or to its website) as soon as possible on Black Friday. In some areas, stores will actually open on Thanksgiving Day, and Best Buy will have early access in the beginning of Thanksgiving week. You can check out the full Target ad or the store you plan on heading to for further details.

We're sure to see more deals pop up for PS4, and we'll continue to update this post as they emerge. We've already had one pre-Black Friday offer at Sam's Club that has now ended, though that required you to have a membership.

On the games side, we've already seen confirmed discounts for some of PS4's biggest games of the year, including God of War, NBA 2K19, and Call of Duty: Black Ops 4. We'll be hunting for deals all month long, so be sure to check back with us as more Black Friday ads are revealed, and check out our roundup of PS4 deals.

Toy Story 4 Trailer: The Gang Gets Back Together

By Dan Auty on Nov 13, 2018 11:27 pm

While many fans had presumed that 2010's Toy Story 3 was the end of Pixar's hugely popular, groundbreaking animated film series, the fourth movie is due for release next year. The first teaser for Toy Story 4 has now been released. [Update: Following up on this, Pixar has now released another new Toy Story 4 teaser that effectively serves as a trailer reaction video to this promo, and it's quite funny.]

Unsurprisingly, it doesn't give much away. It doesn't seem to have any footage from the movie, but instead shows all the main toys dancing blissfully through the air to the lilting sounds of Joni Mitchell's 'Both Sides Now.' As it reaches the end of the line, a wooden fork toy--known as Forky--yells "I don't belong here!" And then things get weird. Check it out above.

Toy Story 4 sees all the main cast return, including Tom Hanks (as Woody), Tim Allen (Buzz), Annie Potts (Bo Peep), Joan Cusack (Jessie), Blake Clark (Slinky Dog), Wallace Shawn (Rex), and John Ratzenberger (Hamm), plus Arrested Development's Tony Hale as Forky. It hits theaters on June 21, 2019.

The movie is directed by Josh Cooley, who previously co-wrote Inside Out for Pixar, and Jonas Rivera. It was originally announced back in 2014 with a 2017 release date, but delays caused the film to switch release slots with The Incredibles 2. In addition, former Disney Animation head John Lasseter was set to direct, but sexual harassment allegations against him resulted in him stepping away and ultimately leaving the company.

In a recent interview, Hanks spoke about what fans can expect from the movie. "Toy Story 4 is going to have an impactful ending," he revealed. "The way you record Toy Story; you're in a room with the team that has created it. When I went in for my last day of recording, I wanted to have my back to them, because usually you're facing them so you can look right up and you can talk about it. But I didn't want to see them and I wanted to pretend they couldn't see me. When I realized what they were going for, I realized, 'Oh, this is a moment in history.'"

Toy Story 4 Gets Another Teaser Trailer, And It's Very Funny

By Dan Auty on Nov 13, 2018 11:25 pm

Hot on the heels of yesterday's first Toy Story 4 teaser, a new promo has arrived for the upcoming Pixar sequel. Like the first trailer, this one doesn't feature any footage from the movie, but it is a hilarious couple of minutes with a couple of special guests.

The video takes the form of a trailer reaction video, where a pair of toys at a fairground attraction--Ducky and Bunny--discuss the teaser. They are very excited about the prospect of a new Toy Story movie, but have some trouble remembering Buzz Lightyear's famous catchphrase. Luckily Woody and Buzz are on hand to help out. Ducky and Bunny are voiced by Keegan-Michael Key and Jordan Peele, with Tom Hanks and Tim Allen as Woody and Buzz. Check it out above.

Toy Story 4 hits theaters on June 21, 2019. All the main cast return--as well as Hanks and Allen, there's Annie Potts (Bo Peep), Joan Cusack (Jessie), Blake Clark (Slinky Dog), Wallace Shawn (Rex), and John Ratzenberger (Hamm). There's also a new role for Arrested Development's Tony Hale, playing the character Forky, who was introduced in the first teaser.

The movie is directed by Josh Cooley, who previously co-wrote Inside Out for Pixar, and Jonas Rivera. It was originally announced back in 2014 with a 2017 release date, but delays caused the film to switch release slots with The Incredibles 2. Pokemon Let's Go Pikachu & Let's Go Eevee Reviews Roundup

By Oscar Dayus on Nov 13, 2018 11:22 pm

Pokemon Let's Go Pikachu & Let's Go Eevee might not be the core RPG some fans were hoping for, but it does mark the first major Pokemon game released on Nintendo Switch. The pair are designed to act as a form of bridge between the mainline series and Pokemon Go, with a simpler throwing mechanic for catching new creatures and a stripped-down combat system.

The big question, however, is: are they any good? With the games' release date fast approaching, reviews have begun to go live. GameSpot's Pokemon Let's Go Pikachu / Eevee review-in-progress awarded the games an 8/10, with critic Jake Dekker stating they "take the Pokemon formula in some exciting new directions." Read on for a wider selection of reviews, or check out GameSpot sister site Metacritic for more.

  • Game: Pokemon Let's Go Pikachu / Let's Go Eevee
  • Platform: Nintendo Switch
  • Developer / publisher: Game Freak / The Pokemon Company, Nintendo
  • Release date: November 16
  • Price: US $60 / £50 / AU $80

GameSpot -- 8/10 (Review-in-progress)

"Despite concessions, Pokemon Let's Go Pikachu and Let's Go Eevee are delightful reimaginings of the series' origins and a deep RPG in their own right. It makes a lot of smart improvements on the original Red, Blue and Yellow while holding on to what made them so special in the first place. Fans of the series might be let down by the lack of features they've come to expect, but Let's Go Pikachu and Let's Go Eevee take the Pokemon formula in some exciting new directions." -- Jake Dekker [Full review]

IGN -- 8.3/10

"Returning to Kanto in Pokemon: Let's Go Pikachu or Eevee is almost as much fun and as heartwarming as I'd hoped it would be with its fresh, colorful design and new mechanics. Pikachu and Eevee are adorable, overpowered leads with the capability to learn some incredible moves, and they feel special both in and out of battle. The Pokemon Go catching system is a more relaxing way to fill out the Pokedex and grind for experience, and I never felt like I was missing out on battles because of it. Kanto is littered with charismatic trainers ready to fight. Some irritating UI design and issues with its motion controls add up to be a minor annoyance, but the addicting capture cycle and great challenges in the post-game keep me coming back to play." -- Miranda Sanchez [Full review]

Eurogamer -- Recommended

"Important as looks may be to the world of Pokemon, as much as it has its quirks, as much as it can be uneven--how I wish, at times, that it would stop trying to be cute and just let the world do the talking, instead of flying straight past cute and into excessively twee, as it often does - Let's Go has succeeded almost everywhere else. Miraculously, I think it works, for both the little one curled up in that back seat and this big one, who really wishes he didn't have to drive." -- Chris Tapsell [Full review]

Polygon -- No score

"I will always find something comforting about the Kanto region, a place that feels as familiar to me now as any place I've lived in. And the undeniable cuteness of becoming best friends with Eevee is a touch that almost by itself justifies playing through the game. Shedding expectations about what Pokemon is supposed to be is the toughest challenge here, more than trying to become a Pokemon master. But we're now in a new era of Pokemon, with a new generation of young trainers. Maybe the only way forward is to let go of the past." -- Allegra Frank [Full review]

The Independent -- No score

"Remarkably, Let's Go Eevee and Pikachu manages to remix the worn formula without breaking it, serving up a nostalgic game that feels like classic Pokemon. Here's hoping the next core Switch game builds on this for a completely fresh adventure." -- Jack Shepherd [Full review]

Top 10 UK Games Chart: Red Dead Redemption 2 Finishes Top Once Again

By Oscar Dayus on Nov 13, 2018 11:22 pm

Red Dead Redemption 2's strong sales appear to have continued, at least in the UK, with Rockstar's open-world game finishing at No.1 for the third consecutive week, according to sales monitor Chart-Track. In fact, the entire top five is unchanged: Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 beats FIFA 19 to No.2 by just a few hundred units, while Forza Horizon 4 and Spider-Man PS4 continue to chart well.

This week's solitary new entry is 2K's Carnival Games, which debuts at No.20. Red Dead's strong showing this week is no surprise, given its launch week sales. Rockstar stated earlier this month that the game boasted the "single biggest opening weekend in the history of entertainment," with sales surpassing $725 million that weekend.

If you're one of those millions who picked up Red Dead Redemption 2 already, check out our tips for beginners and read all about what to do with your legendary bear pelt. If you're still on the fence or deciding on a platform, read up on which console performs better, and check out GameSpot's Red Dead Redemption 2 review. "Red Dead Redemption 2 is an excellent prequel, but it's also an emotional, thought-provoking story in its own right, and it's a world that is hard to leave when it's done," wrote critic Kallie Plagge.

You can read the full top 10 sales chart below, courtesy of UKIE and Chart-Track. Note this table does not include digital sales data, and so should not be considered representative of all UK game sales.

First Detective Pikachu Trailer Is Much Better Than You Expected

By Dan Auty on Nov 13, 2018 11:18 pm

The first trailer for the Pokemon: Detective Pikachu film is here. The live-action movie based on the hugely popular game series is released next May and stars Ryan Reynolds as the world-famous yellow Pokemon.

The trailer reveals that the movie is set in Ryme City, where Pokemon exist alongside humans. A famous private detective has gone missing, leading his son Tim to start investigating what has happened to him. But Tim used to be an aspiring Pokemon trainer, and with his ability to hear what Pikachu can say to him, the pair team up to solve the mystery. And of course, the trailer is also packed with other Pokemon, including Psyduck, Bulbasaur, Charizard, and Greninja. Check it out above.

The cast also includes Justice Smith (Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom), Kathryn Newton (Blockers), Ken Watanabe (Godzilla, Inception), and Bill Nighy (Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows). Detective Pikachu is directed by Rob Letterman, who previously helmed Goosebumps, Captain Underpants, and Shark Tale. The movie hits theaters on May 10, 2019.

Detective Pikachu is based on the video game of the same name. A shorter, downloadable version of the game was released in Japan in 2016, with the full version released worldwide in March 2018. In her review for GameSpot, Kallie Plagge said that it is a "simple game," with "not much variety to the way you solve cases." Nevertheless, "it's full of heart, and its silly characters and intentionally campy tone are what make it fun."

Stan Lee: The Stars Pay Tribute To The Marvel Legend

By Dan Auty on Nov 13, 2018 11:17 pm

Tributes have been coming in for Marvel Comics legend Stan Lee, who has died at the age of 95. Lee passed away today, November 12, and notable figures from the worlds of movies, TV, and comic books have taken to social media to pay tribute to him and his effect on their lives.

Many of the current stars of Marvel superhero movies offered their respects to Lee, who hepled create some of the most famous superheroes of all time. Captain America actor Chris Evans said, "There will never be another Stan Lee. For decades he provided both young and old with adventure, escape, comfort, confidence, inspiration, strength, friendship and joy." He was joined by Wolverine star Hugh Jackman who described Lee as "a pioneering force in the superhero universe. I'm proud to have been a small part of his legacy and... to have helped bring one of his characters to life."

Kevin Feige, the head of Marvel Studios, said that "no one has had more of an impact on my career and everything we do at Marvel Studios than Stan Lee. Stan leaves an extraordinary legacy that will outlive us all." Iron Man actor Robert Downey Jr. posted an image of himself and Lee on-set together, while Spider-Man star Tom Holland called him "the father of Marvel" who "made so many people so incredibly happy."

Guardians of the Galaxy star Zoe Saldana also posted an on-set image of Lee, director James Gunn, and herself on-set, and called him an "inspiration and superhero to us all."

Josh Brolin, who played Thanos in this year's Avengers: Infinity War, explained the extent to which Lee's work had influenced him. "To those of us who have been so deeply affected by the humanity of his imagination, the understanding of reaching beyond our potential and the necessity of tapping into our immeasurable imaginations, we thank you and are forever indebted," he said.

Disney boss Bob Iger released a statement as part of a tribute on the official Marvel website. "Stan Lee was as extraordinary as the characters he created," Iger said. "A superhero in his own right to Marvel fans around the world, Stan had the power to inspire, to entertain, and to connect. The scale of his imagination was only exceeded by the size of his heart."

Lee's official Twitter feed also offered its own simple tribute, which you can see below:

There were also tributes from the wider community of actors, musicians, politicians, and comic book creators. Artist Rob Liefield, who co-created Deadpool, spoke about the last time he saw Lee, back in August. "He was peaceful and comfortable and in great spirits," he wrote. "He sat in his favorite chair overlooking his pool and the beautiful canyons. I thanked him for being a visionary, not just creatively, but being a visionary in bringing Marvel to Hollywood, knowing how well they would be served by TV and film."

Filmmaker and host of AMC's Comic-Book Men Kevin Smith, who directed Lee in his movie Mall Rats, wrote about how Lee's creations has been an inspiration to him and to so many fans. "You dreamed up some of my favorite modern myths and created characters that instilled in me a moral barometer, teaching me right from wrong and showing me it's always better to be a hero instead of a villain," he wrote. "Your characters represented us: yes, they had extraordinary, unbelievable abilities, but they were also reflections of a world we knew, where a Spider-Man is really just a boy who wants to help."

Marvel's comic book rivals DC also posted a moving tribute to Lee. And of course, Lee's legacy will also live on the many cameos he filmed for Marvel movies--check out our look at these scenes here.

Game Of Thrones Season 8 Premiere Month Announced In New Teaser

By Dan Auty on Nov 13, 2018 11:15 pm

It has been confirmed that the eighth and final season of Game of Thrones will premiere in April 2019. This brings the series back in line with the premieres of season 4, 5, and 6, following Season 7's July 2017 debut.

The news was revealed in a new teaser tweeted by HBO. The video doesn't contain any footage from the new season, and we don't yet have the exact date that it will premiere. But it's an exciting reminder of all the main characters and promises that the new season will be a spectacular one. Check it out above.

This teaser follows the lengthy cover feature which Entertainment Week published earlier this month, that contained plenty of tidbits about the final season. While HBO has been extremely protective of spoilers and secrets, showrunners DB Weiss and David Benioff did give a few hints about what we can expect. They revealed that the opening of Season 8 will mirror that of Season 1, with Daenerys Targaryen (Emilia Clarke) riding to Winterfell with her armies in preparation for the arrival of the Army of the Dead. This is a deliberate call all the way back to the first episode in 2011.

In addition, Jon Snow actor Kit Harington spoke about the full table read of Season 8's scripts. He stated that Benioff and Weiss started the session by asking the cast members to avoid doing anything that might give away any of the new season's secrets, no matter how small. Harington then revealed that the scripts made him cry twice.

EW have also revealed that at one stage Benioff and Weiss were considering finishing the show with three theatrical movies rather than six episodes. Season 8 will contain the biggest battle of the show's history, and the pair were concerned that HBO's budget might not allow them to do what they wanted.

In related news, production is set to begin the prequel spin-off show next year. Game of Thrones creator George RR Martin stated on his blog that the series, which is co-written with Jane Goldman (Kick-Ass, Kingsmen) will be titled The Long Night. However, he subsequently denied that this was the title, writing that "HBO has informed me that the Jane Goldman pilot is not (yet) titled THE LONG NIGHT. That is certainly the title I prefer, but for the moment the pilot is still officially UNTITLED. So… mea culpa, mea culpa, mea culpa."

Monsters Come To Life As Godzilla Vs. Kong Enters Production

By Jeremy Winslow on Nov 13, 2018 11:07 pm

The "massive monster brawl movie" that director Adam Wingard (Blair Witch, Death Note) teased back in 2017 has finally begun production. According to Screen Rant, Warner Bros. has announced that Godzilla vs. Kong's production is officially underway.

In addition to announcing that the film has entered production, Warner Bros. has released Godzilla vs. Kong's official plot synopsis. As stated, the film will see the legendary monsters face each other with Earth as the battleground. Monarch, a top-secret organization first introduced in Legendary Pictures' 2014 Godzilla and that later appeared in 2017's Kong: Skull Island, will embark on an expedition to uncover the truth behind the behemoths' origins. You can read the full synopsis below:

In a time when monsters walk the Earth, humanity's fight for its future sets Godzilla and Kong on a collision course that will see the two most powerful forces of nature on the planet collide in a spectacular battle for the ages. As Monarch embarks on a perilous mission into uncharted terrain and unearths clues to the Titans' origins, a human conspiracy threatens to wipe the creatures, both good and bad, from the face of the earth forever.

Warner Bros. has also made some casting announcements in recent months. In addition to the titular monsters, Godzilla vs. Kong will include Alexander Skarsgård (Zoolander and Zoolander 2, Battleship), Eiza González (Horton Hears a Who!, Baby Driver), Rebecca Hall (Iron Man 3, Transcendence), Brian Tyree Henry (White Boy Rick, Widows), Kyle Chandler (Zero Dark Thirty, The Wolf of Wall Street), and more. Millie Bobby Brown of Stranger Things fame is reported to reprise her role from Godzilla: King of the Monsters, which is scheduled to debut in theatres in May 2019.

This upcoming film won't be the first time the two have battled each other. Fans of the MonsterVerse will remember 1962's King Kong vs. Godzilla. Unlike that film, which didn't have a clear winner, Godzilla vs. Kong will see a definitive victor emerge--at least according to Wingard. "I do want there to be a winner," Wingard told Entertainment Weekly during the release of 2017's Death Note. "The original film was very fun, but you feel a little let down that the movie doesn't take a definitive stance. People are still debating now who won in that original movie, you know. So, I do want people to walk away from this film feeling like, Okay, there is a winner."

We'll have to see who Wingard crowns the definitive winner when Godzilla vs. Kong hits theatres in May 2020.

Forza Horizon 4 Black Friday 2018 Early Deals For Xbox One

By Tamoor Hussain on Nov 13, 2018 11:07 pm

Playground Games' Forza Horizon series has become a standout in the genre, offering tight and satisfying driving gameplay while setting it all in real-world locations that are picturesque and provide a variety of activities to engage in. The latest entry, Forza Horizon 4, will no doubt be a hot property when it comes to Black Friday deals, and although the event is still a few weeks away, ads for various retailers have confirmed discounts on the title.

For those on the hunt for a good discount, there's a few options to consider, and most of them knock around $20 off the full price. First up, Best Buy has it priced at $30, which is currently the biggest discount that we've seen. Walmart, meanwhile, is offering the game for $35, and Target also has it for $35. It's worth noting that these are all physical versions of the game, as opposed to digital codes.

Forza Horizon 4 is also available through Xbox Game Pass, which is the Microsoft service that gives subscribers access to a selection of games for as long as they're a member. Although you won't outright own Forza Horizon 4, this is a way to play the game--alongside a bunch of others--for fairly cheap.

Forza Horizon 4 launched on October 2, and has held up the series' high standards, earning a 9/10 from GameSpot.

"There's such a diverse range of activities stuffed into every corner of Horizon 4, and meaningful changes contribute to smart driving dynamics and a more consistent sense of achievement," said Edmond Tran in his Forza Horizon 4 review.

"Everything you do in Horizon feels valuable, no matter how big or small--from the basic thrills of speeding a fast car down a gorgeous mountain highway to spending time tinkering with your favorite ride to manage seasonal road conditions to just hanging out with friends and strangers online and goofing off in friendly games. The charm of the Horizon series is as palpable as ever, a winning, all-inclusive recipe that celebrates the joy of driving above all else."

All PS4 Black Friday 2018 Deals In Early Ads: Games, Consoles, And Accessories On Sale

By Chris Reed on Nov 13, 2018 10:57 pm

As you've probably realized by now, it's almost time for Black Friday. In 2018, Black Friday takes place on November 23, which is next Friday, although certain retailers will offer deals even sooner than that. As such, it's time to start planning any shopping you might want to do, as this will be a great time to pick up a PS4 console, accessories, or games. Whether you're looking to pick up a gift for someone else or yourself, you likely won't find lower prices at any other time of year, based on the ads we've seen so far from places like Target, Best Buy, and Walmart.

Sony itself has announced its Black Friday promotions, and you'll find a lot of what retailers have to offer line up with these deals. When it comes to PS4 consoles, the best option announced so far is from Target, Best Buy, Walmart, and Sam's Club all of which get you a PlayStation 4 Slim 1TB and Spider-Man as a pack-in game for $200 (or $199 in the case of Walmart and Sam's Club). That's a great deal, seeing as the console normally costs around $300 and Spider-Man costs $60. Given it's part of Sony's official lineup of deals, you can expect to find this pretty much everywhere.

In terms of accessories, another doorbuster Target will offer is a PlayStation VR bundle that comes with a camera, Move controllers, Creed: Rise to Glory, and Superhot VR, all for $250; that deal is mirrored at Best Buy. If you want a cheaper route, several stores will have a $200 PSVR bundle. Also, both Target, Best Buy, and Kohl's will have DualShock 4 controllers available for $40, while Walmart beats them at $39. Again $200 for PSVR and $40 for controllers are among Sony's official Black Friday deals, so expect to see those from a lot of stores.

On the games side of the equation, there's plenty to save money on. The recent release Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 will drop to $40 at Walmart. Another recent one, Shadow of the Tomb Raider, will be available for $30. Both Detroit: Become Human and God of War will be available for $25 each, as will Far Cry 5. Assassin's Creed Odyssey is at its cheapest (so far) at Best Buy, where it'll be $30.

We've gathered all of the PlayStation 4 deals announced so far into one place so you can get the best deal on whatever it is you're looking for. We'll keep this article updated as more retailers announce their Black Friday plans, so check back later; for now, the big ads we've gotten are from Target, Best Buy, and Walmart. Depending on exactly what you're looking for, you'll be going to a different store.

You can find all of the PS4 Black Friday deals below, but you'll have to wait for November 23 to get the discounts.

Xbox One Backwards Compatibility Adds Three More Games

By Steve Watts on Nov 13, 2018 10:40 pm

Microsoft announced even more backwards compatible games coming to the Xbox One at its X018 conference. On November 13, the service will add three more games: the full trilogy of Final Fantasy XIII titles with Xbox One X enhancements. Plus Civilization Revolution, which is already available via backwards compatibility, will be getting some Xbox One X upgrades as well. [Update: The latest batch of backwards compatible games is now live on Xbox One.]

The original Final Fantasy XIII was Square Enix's big tentpole title in its marquee franchise. For its two sequels--Final Fantasy XIII-2 and Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII--the studio focused more singularly on the central character of Lightning and blended in some action game mechanics. While FFXIII's narrative was built to stand alone, XIII-2 and Lightning Returns are part of a matched set, with a cliffhanger that neatly leads from one into the other.

Civilization Revolution took the sim aspects of the popular strategy series and simplified them for a more quick and casual experience. That helps the interface work a little better on consoles, but the game has hit tons of other platforms including mobile devices.

As always, once these go live on the service, if you already own these games you can insert the disc to start the download, or find the digital version in your Games section on the dashboard. The number of games on Xbox One is big and constantly growing, so check out our full list of backwards compatible games to see if any of your nostalgic favorites are already available.

Wondering If Overlord Was A Cloverfield Movie Was Fun For The Actors Too

By Michael Rougeau on Nov 13, 2018 10:30 pm

When Jovan Adepo first read the script for Overlord during the auditioning process, he was excited. "I was just thinking to myself, 'This is an incredibly ambitious film,'" the actor told GameSpot during a recent interview.

Overlord follows a small squad of World War II paratroopers on a mission to destroy a radio tower on the eve of the famous Normandy landing in 1944. In a small French village, they discover horrifying experiments being perpetrated by evil Nazi scientists. Adepo plays Boyce, a member of the squad and the movie's main protagonist.

Naturally, in addition to the film's ambition, Adepo also liked one of the names attached to the movie: producer J.J. Abrams. "When my agent first told me about it and he told me who was involved, you know, I was obviously intrigued," Adepo said. But it was more than just working with Abrams. Adepo spent much of production wondering the same thing as many fans: whether Overlord was going to be a Cloverfield movie.

"I'm a digger, man. I came from a journalist background, so I'm naturally very nosy," Adepo said. "I was watching Cloverfield Paradox right after the Super Bowl, and I was really curious as to how we were going to be connected to them, or if we were at all."

The question was treated as mystery internally, just like it was to those outside the movie. At one point, Adepo flat out asked: "It might not have been the smartest thing, but whatever--I just went up to one of the producers and I was like, 'Hey are we a part of the Cloverfield universe? And he was like, 'Uh, Jovan, I don't know,' and I know he knew, but he just wasn't going to tell me. But I mean, that's what you expect. Bad Robot is very good at keeping everything in this 'mystery box' until it's the perfect time."

Adepo said if there were Cloverfield connections in the early version of the script that he saw during auditioning, he never noticed them. And the script apparently underwent only minor changes after that, such as altering Boyce's background after Adepo was cast. Adepo said the producers allowed the question to float around set well into production. But eventually, they came clean to the cast.

"There was a moment, from what I can remember, when we were doing a couple of pickups, where they just knew that we were very curious about the whole thing, and they were like, 'No guys, we're kind of just teasing you,'" Adepo recalled. "'We were just pulling your leg. We very much wanted this to be its on thing.' Because when it was conceived, it was its own thing."

Naturally, not every production from Abrams' Bad Robot studio is going to wind up being a secret Cloverfield movie, like 10 Cloverfield Lane and Cloverfield Paradox were. Overlord's potential place in that canon felt both likely and unlikely; on one hand, a movie set during World War II would take place long before the events that set any of the other Cloverfield films in motion, but on the other, Overlord's mix of grounded action and sci-fi horror is the exact right kind of weird to fit.

Adepo said he was intimidated to work with Abrams either way--until he met him. "It was a really cool experience, and it was really cool to meet him, because, you know, just seeing him only in videos and in interviews and stuff, he's so intimidating to me," Adepo said. "But to get to meet him in person, he's one of the kindest people I've met, and he just genuinely wants you to do well."

Abrams visited the set in England multiple times to check on production and offer his own creative input. "It's so cool to see him walk around and just like, smile to himself and nod his head, and he's like, 'Show me the next thing, because I think you're doing a good job,'" Adepo said. "When J.J. flies from Los Angeles to England to see the work on the film and he's just smiling the whole time, you're doing your job."

He said Julius Avery, Overlord's director, deserves a lot of credit for having a clear vision and executing it while also balancing the studios' demands. "[Julius] walked in the first day of pre-production with this idea of the type of movie that he wanted to make," Adepo said. "This is a guy who is in love with action movies, the classical heist film--that's like, his jam. His favorite movie is Heat, for Christ's sake. So when came into this movie, he knew exactly what he wanted to do. And of course, when you're working with the studio, you have to learn to collaborate and be efficient in your collaboration, because everybody's bringing great ideas to the forefront. You want to just try to mix it as much as you can and still come out with your movie."

Cloverfield tie-in or not, Adepo thinks the people who will enjoy the movie most are the ones who understand what it's supposed to be. "I've heard people talk about it's like one of those classic B horror films," he said. "Don't get me wrong--you know, my first film was [1950s period drama] Fences. I get like, the importance of heightened drama and, you know, proper filmmaking. But like, you want to be able to go to a movie and enjoy a movie without it speaking to the social climate of what's going on right now, or whatever the case may be. You know what I mean?"

"We get enough of that every day in the news," he continued. "You want to have a moment where you can go to the movies, get some popcorn with your buddies or go on a date, and just see a really fun movie that's high energy that's going to keep you involved, and that's exactly what Bad Robot wanted to do with this film. And I think we accomplished that."

Overlord is in theaters now.

Sam's Club Black Friday 2018 Early Ad Deals -- PS4, Xbox One, TVs, And More

By Tamoor Hussain on Nov 13, 2018 10:18 pm

Black Friday 2018 is set to officially kick off on November 23 but retailers are getting people primed to spend their hard-earned cash by revealing their ads early. For those looking to drop some dollars on new entertainment hardware, games, or pretty much anything else, this is actually pretty helpful as you can compare prices to find the best deals ahead of time.

Walmart's Black Friday ad is already available, and you can also get an early peek at Best Buy's and Target's too. Now, Sam's Club has also unveiled its ad a little early, and we've gone through to pick out everything that may be of interest to anyone that loves to park themselves in front of a screen to enjoy a movie, game, or TV show.

As noted on the Sam's Club website, customers will need to return on November 22 for more event pricing, and many of the deals visible in the advert now may not be available until that date too. For someone looking to do a complete overhaul of their setup--and has a lot of cash to work with--the retailer is offering a 75" Samsung 4K TV along with an Xbox One S (1TB) for $2,280.

In terms of console specific deals, you can get the PlayStation 4 1TB with Insomniac Games' Spider-Man for $199. It's worth keeping in mind that this is the slim version of the PS4, and not the more powerful PlayStation 4 Pro. If you're in the market for an Xbox One, the S model is available as part of the Minecraft Creators bundle for $199. Again, if you want the most powerful Xbox One on the market, you'll need to seek out deals on the Xbox One X instead.

NBA 2K19 Black Friday 2018 PS4 And Xbox One Deals

By Tamoor Hussain on Nov 13, 2018 10:11 pm

Black Friday 2018 is going to be the ideal opportunity to grab yourself some video games that you can play with family and friends throughout the holiday season. Sports games are always a great way to pass some time, settle existing feuds, or start new ones, and if you're a fan of basketball, NBA 2K19 is probably something you'll want to consider grabbing.

It seems that most retailers have reached the same discount price for NBA 2K19, with the game available for $30 at Best Buy, Target, and Walmart across both their PlayStation 4 and Xbox One versions. You can find links to them below.

In GameSpot's NBA 2K19 review, Michael Higham said the "core NBA 2K mechanics are challenging and rewarding" and that it offers a variety of game modes to enjoy. "If you want to immerse yourself in the sport and culture, NBA 2K19 has you covered with a breadth of content," he continued. "But even that has its limitations after several years of iterations. Although those willing to grind for everything will eventually get rewarded, the system of VC still comes off as exploitative. But there's a lot of fun to be had in NBA 2K19 despite its flaws, especially if you have a strong love for the sport.

"NBA 2K19 dishes out what you'd expect from the franchise: accessible yet deep core mechanics that often work just right and occasionally falter. Beyond that, there's a full roster of ways to enjoy the sport thanks to a robust package of game modes."

NBA 2K19

If you'd like to see more of the deals that Best Buy, Target, and Walmart have on offer, check out our full Black Friday 2018 roundup. Along with video game hardware and software, you'll also find some of the noteworthy discounts on TV sets and other entertainment equipment that we've seen in the lead up to Black Friday.

PUBG Announced For PS4, Release Date Confirmed

By Oscar Dayus on Nov 13, 2018 10:06 pm

PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds is finally coming to PS4. Sony announced the news today in a new trailer, which you can watch above. The video reveals a release date of December 7.

PUBG will launch on PS4 with all three maps: Erangel, Miramar, and Sanhok. Developer PUBG Corp. states the PlayStation version will contain "all major features, ranked system, event mode, achievements and much more."

Pre-orders are live now, with bundles ranging from $30 / £25 / AU $40 to $60 / £50 / AU $85, depending on how many in-game coins you want and whether you desire a Survivor Pass. All those who do buy the game in advance of launch will receive two platform-exclusive items: a Nathan Drake outfit from Uncharted and Ellie's backpack from The Last of Us. PUBG Corp. also states the game is "enhanced for PS4 Pro systems, including support for HDR lighting on compatible TV sets."

PUBG first came to PC in March 2017 as part of Steam's early access program. It later came to Xbox One as an Xbox Game Preview title, and launched fully on those platforms in December 2017 and September 2018, respectively. Microsoft announced recently that PUBG would be among 15 games coming to Xbox Game Pass in November.

A PS4 version has been heavily rumored for some time, and a PlayStation port was listed by the South Korean ratings board in September. Before that, developer PUBG Corp. had stated it wanted its hit battle royale game to come to "every platform."

The Xbox One version was successful at launch, selling more than 1 million units in the first 48 hours despite still being in beta at that point. Since that time, PUBG Corp. has supported the shooter with a multitude of updates, including new maps, weapons, and modes.

Fortnite Teases New Mounted Turret Weapon

By Kevin Knezevic on Nov 13, 2018 10:00 pm

Fortnite developer Epic has been introducing new weapons and items to the hit game with nearly every update, and it looks like that trend will continue with this week's patch. Fortnite's in-game News feed has now given us our first glimpse at a new weapon on the way to Battle Royale mode: the Mounted Turret.

Judging by its description in the feed, the Mounted Turret seems like it'll be fairly different from the other kinds of weapons you can pick up in the game. "Place the Mounted Turret and hop in to apply some suppressive fire," the description reads. However, it also warns the weapon can overheat, so you'll want to use it strategically if you're lucky enough to come across one. You can take a look at it below.

No Caption Provided

Epic hasn't officially confirmed when the Mounted Turret will appear in the game; however, weapons that are teased in the News feed typically arrive as part of the next weekly update, which is expected to roll out for all platforms this week barring any unforeseen delays.

The latest weapon to come to Fortnite was the Heavy Assault Rifle, which launched alongside last week's 6.22 update. The gun comes in Rare, Epic, and Legendary forms and can be found in chests, vending machines, supply drops, and as floor loot. You can see it in action in the video above.

In addition to that, Epic recently partnered with the NFL to add a line of football jersey skins to Battle Royale; these are available for purchase from Fortnite's in-game store. The developer has also begun selling a Summit Striker starter pack that comes with a new skin, back bling, and 600 V-Bucks for $5.

Rainbow Six Siege's New Operators Leaked Ahead Of Wind Bastion Reveal

By Oscar Dayus on Nov 13, 2018 09:38 pm

Rainbow Six Siege's new season, Wind Bastion, is scheduled to be revealed soon, but the update's new Operators appear to have leaked ahead of schedule. Videos uploaded to the game's subreddit depict characters named Nomad and Kaid, teasing a full reveal for the Pro League Finals on November 18.

Kaid, a Defender, seemingly carries an electrified device to prevent attackers breaching hatches. The Attacker Nomad, meanwhile, appears to have some form of wind push ability. Both Operators come from Morocco's GIGR (Groupe d'Intervention de la Gendarmerie Royale).

Wind Bastion also contains a new map for all players named Fortress, a military facility in the Atlas Mountains. According to Ubisoft, the "map will be comprised of two distinguishable sections offering a variety of open space, points of cover, and lines of sight for both close and long range engagements." Fortress is also "the first ever map to be heavily associated with an Operator." Ubisoft has not announced whether that Operator is one of the two new ones, or a member of Siege's existing roster.

One of the major changes coming to Siege at the start of Season 4 will be censorship of certain in-game environments and icons. Ubisoft is removing references to specific mature content, like gambling and sex, in Siege ahead of its release in Asian territories that have heavier content restrictions.

Siege's last major patch, Update Y3S3.2, addressed many of the bugs that previously existed in the game. The update also added balancing changes to both Clash and Maestro, two Operators that Ubisoft felt were underused. Two firearms, the SMG-11 and Vector, were also patched to reduce recoil and improve the weapons' handling.

Xbox One Games On Sale This Week At The Microsoft Store

By Chris Reed on Nov 13, 2018 09:05 pm

It's a new week on the Microsoft Store, which means a new slate of Xbox One and Xbox 360 games is on sale. Some of the deals are available to everyone, while others require you to have an Xbox Live Gold account. Now, I'm going to be frank with you: it's not a great week in terms of deals. Only a few games are on sale, and none of them are likely to knock your socks off.

We could cry about that, or we could wonder what it means. My thinking is that Microsoft is gearing up to launch a major sale for Black Friday and Cyber Monday and is saving the best deals for that. So check out the games that are on sale now below. If you find the selection disappointing, just hold on and see if next week's deals blow you away--they just might. Without further ado, here's what's on sale between now and November 19.

Probably the best game of the bunch is Valiant Hearts: The Great War, which is on sale for $4.50. It's a puzzle adventure game that shows how World War I affected the lives of everyday people. It also contains a lot of historical information, so you just might learn a thing or two.

I Am Bread, a game that tasks you with controlling a piece of bread, is on sale for $3.24. Horror fans might want to grab Don't Knock Twice for $4.50, and puzzle game aficionados can pick up Unbox: Newbie's Adventure for $9. Anyone with an Xbox 360 that's still hooked up can get Sonic & Sega Racing for $10 or Stuntman: Ignition for $2.24.

You can see the full list of games on sale over on Major Nelson's blog. In the meantime, if you have Xbox Live Gold and you enjoy free games, make sure to pick up your November Games with Gold. And if you want to see what kinds of deals you'll be able to get next week, check out our Black Friday hub, where we're tracking all the video game deals at all the major retailers.

New Alita: Battle Angel Trailer Delivers Serious Cyborg Action

By Dan Auty on Nov 13, 2018 08:44 pm

It's been nearly a year since the first trailer for the James Cameron-produced manga adaptation Alita: Battle Angel was released, and the movie still won't be with us until February. In the meantime, a new trailer has arrived.

This latest promo recaps much of the basic plot, in which a girl called Alita (Rosa Salazar), who is growing up in a futuristic city, discovers that she is a cyborg that was found on a rubbish dump by her scientist dad, played by Django Unchain's Christoph Waltz. We then get a ton of action, including confrontations with other cyborgs and a violent chase on what looks like a sci-fi race track. Check it out above.

Alita: Battle Angel also stars Jennifer Connelly (Hulk), Mahershala Ali (Moonlight, Luke Cage), Ed Skrein (Deadpool), and Jackie Earle Haley (Watchmen). It's directed by Sin City's Robert Rodriguez. Cameron intended to direct the movie for many years, but in 2016 handed over the reins to Rodriguez, who is also known for the likes of From Dusk Till Dawn, Desperado, and the Spy Kids movies. The movie was originally set for release in July this year, but was delayed a couple of times and now hits theaters on February 14, 2019.

When the first trailer debuted last year, the movie attracted some controversy for the look of the title character--specifically, her large, unnatural eyes. Rodriguez explained at San Diego Comic Con in July that he wanted a realistic depiction of the source material, echoing James Cameron's wishes to bring the manga to life.

The manga Battle Angel Alita was first published in 1990, and the original series ran for nine volumes until 1995. In 1993, a two-episode anime version was produced, which adapted the first two volumes of the manga.
