Black Friday 2018 is just a couple of days away, falling on November 23. Along with lists of virtually all of the deals we can expect during the shopping bonanza, we've gotten a number of deals early--and that includes discounts on a PlayStation Plus membership.
As of this writing, the best deal on PS Plus sees a 12-month subscription to the service for $40--a nice $20 savings and the cheapest we ever see these subscriptions go for anymore. You can get this price straight through PSN, as the deal is available as part of the ongoing PlayStation Store's Black Friday sale.
Alternatively, a number of retailers have either price matched or launched their PS Plus deals early. You can see the full list below, but Amazon, GameStop, Best Buy, and more are all offering PS Plus for $40 right now.
PS Plus is Sony's online subscription service. You'll need a membership in order to play most online multiplayer games on PS4 and PS3, such as Rocket League and the recently released Fallout 76. On top of that, Sony offers a batch of free games for PS Plus subscribers every month, which are yours as long as you have an active membership, as well as additional discounts on titles from the PlayStation Store. Subscribing now will get you November's PS Plus games, which include Yakuza Kiwami.
PS Plus subscriptions are available in several increments. A one-month subscription typically costs $10; a three-month membership runs for $25; and a 12-month subscription is normally $60. If you're interested in sampling the service before committing to it, Sony is offering a free 14-day trial through the PS Store, although that will automatically convert into a one-month subscription if you don't cancel it before the trial period ends.
You can find all of the announced PS Plus deals, as well as our other guides on this year's PS4 Black Friday sales, below. For even more discounts, be sure to check out our full Black Friday deals coverage.
The newest adaptation of Robin Hood, the tale of the archer who robbed from the rich to give to the poor, angles to be an origin story worthy of action figures. It makes sense on paper--a charismatic hero creates a popular uprising while sniping a bunch of dudes in the throat with arrows. Why couldn't Robin Hood be a superhero? The inclusion of tights could be optional, but wouldn't be wholly out of step with movie's adopted genre.
In execution, though, Robin Hood is a middling but forgettable blockbuster, hoping to mix together Batman, John Wick, Kingsman, and any number of Marvel Cinematic Universe movies, but without enough charm or fun to stand next to any of them.
A voice-over monologue at the start of Robin Hood advises us that the movie won't bother with history or accuracy--we wouldn't care anyway, we're told--and drops us into a medieval Britain whose people mostly wear slick leather jackets and whose landscape has an inordinate number of things spouting flames into the air. This is a "cool" take on a story that's been told time and again in cinema.
Robin Hood's cast fights valiantly for the premise. Taron Egerton, in the titular role and doing the most running, jumping, and bowstring-drawing, brings his everyman charm from the Kingsman franchise; Jamie Foxx works very hard as the intimidating, ass-kicking mentor and shows off action chops of his own; and Ben Mendelsohn deploys some signature oozing sleaze as the Sheriff of Nottingham, nearly reaching the same level as his sneering Imperial middle-manager in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story or Ready Player One's Nolan Sorrento. But ultimately, the movie just isn't charming enough to raise the character of Robin Hood from folk hero to superhero.
Though Robin Hood is retelling a familiar story, it takes a few liberties in the name of modernization. After moving in with his girlfriend Marian (Eve Hewson), Egerton's amiable Lord Robin of Loxley is drafted into the English army and sent to fight in the Crusades, where he's stuck for four years. What follows is a lengthy combat scene that could have been lifted from any movie about current conflicts in Iraq or Afghanistan, as Robin and his squad of English archers clear nondescript desert towns door by door, bows drawn as if they're carrying assault rifles. The action sequence sets a tone for the film. As soon as the defending forces start using a giant gatling-crossbow, the sequence becomes something like an Iraq War-set Saving Private Robin.
It's here that Robin meets John (Foxx), a Moorish fighter who nearly kills him. Robin's ruthless English buds save his life, and then Robin saves John's as the English threaten to torture and murder unarmed prisoners. Through fast-forwarded plot contrivance, both wind up back in England, where Robin discovers he's lost everything, including his fiance. John recruits him to strike back at the English war machine by becoming England's take on DC's Arrow.
Robin has the added benefit of being a rich dude, so the movie adds his Bruce Wayne side to the proceedings. It's a nice shift to add a little more of Robin's political maneuvering to the story, but the whole story has a Clark Kent-is-obviously-Superman feel. Nobody manages to put together that the barely disguised desperado known as the Hood arrived in town right when Robin did, and we get a few confusing scenes where the Sheriff seems to be hinting he knows more than he's letting on, but actually doesn't. In general, everyone in Nottingham must be kinda dumb.
From there out, Robin Hood is less about robberies and more about Egerton busting into places and shooting arrows really fast at soldiers in a series of big action set pieces. The safest comparison is John Wick's close-up, fast action pointing and shooting, and it's in these action sequences that Robin Hood is at its most fun. Egerton deftly handles both the physicality of action sequences and that loveable action hero air of always staying just an inch from being in over his head. There's only one sequence, a carriage chase through Nottingham's constantly aflame mining district, where special effects break down and the use of green screen gets especially egregious. We maybe didn't need so many clearly post-production fire effects.
While the action is generally pretty serviceable, it's the script and the characters that ultimately let the movie down. Robin himself is just not engaging enough to make him memorable. The character can't capture the relatability of a John McClane, the effortless cool of an Indiana Jones or James Bond, or the quippy one-liners of a Spider-Man or Tony Stark. Add that to the fact that Robin is largely dragged through the story by John, the guy who has most of the motivation and the intellect to enact his agenda, and it starts to feel like we're following the wrong guy.
Meanwhile, Mendelsohn does his best to ratchet up the bile and get you to hate him, but the sheriff never manages much more than complaining, screaming threats, and getting easily outwitted. The rest of the supporting cast--Hewson, Jamie Dornan as her semi-shady commoner politician boyfriend, and Tim Minchin as Friar Tuck (one of the only two people who seem to know Robin in the entire town)--are stuck pushing the plot between action scenes with little to work with.
The most interesting part of Robin Hood is also its most easily buried. The subject matter of Robin's legend is always that of the underclass taking back power from their rich oppressors, and the movie tries to pull in a few modern issues to make a more contemporary point. The English's approach to the Crusades is obviously meant to evoke "enhanced interrogation" in the Middle East today. Later, commoners in Nottingham are met by soldiers carrying iron riot shields. With bandanas over their mouths and firebombs in their hands, the good guys resemble nothing so much as photographer Robert Cohen's famous photo of protester Edward Crawford in Ferguson, Missouri, heaving a tear gas canister toward police.
The movie's viewpoint isn't subtle, but those scant few images also mark Robin Hood at its most risky and intelligent. It's unfortunate that director Otto Bathurst is too busy breathlessly running to the next action scene to spend much time ruminating about how Robin Hood might inform modern life. A few quick images and the neurons they activate in your brain will have to suffice.
Robin Hood bookends its story by completing the voice-over monologue from the beginning of the film, remarking that the story is far from over. The whole thing ends with the very first appearance of the legendary Sherwood Forest, so clearly there's more rich-robbing to be done, but it seems unlikely there's enough in this blockbuster to warrant stretching Robin Hood's story into more movies. It's a fun enough way to spend an afternoon, but as much as Robin Hood might want a piece of the superhero action, it can't quite manage the fun, fascinating characters that would make it more than another note in the history of the familiar tale's film adaptations.
Grand Theft Auto V may be more five years old at this point, but the game is still consistently one of PS4 and Xbox One's best-selling titles every month. It's also one of the most commercially successful video games of all time, shipping more than 100 million units worldwide. If you're one of the seemingly few people out there who have yet to pick it up (or plan on giving it to someone this holiday season), you'll be able to find some good deals on it this Black Friday.
Many retailers have already begun sharing their Black Friday ads ahead of the big shopping day, giving you the opportunity to scope out all of the sales before embarking on your retail expedition. While there don't seem to be too many deals on GTA V as of yet, the best one at the moment can be found at Best Buy. The electronics giant is selling GTA V: Premium Online Edition for $20. This edition comes with the base game as well as some freebies for GTA Online, including the Criminal Enterprise starter pack, a handful of vehicles, weapons, and more.
Walmart will also have a discount on the Premium Online Edition of GTA V this year. Starting at 6 PM local time on Thanksgiving, you can pick up the open-world game for $25. You'll be able to snag it before then if you're planning on doing your shopping online; Walmart's Black Friday deals kick off on Walmart.com on Wednesday, November 21 at 7 PM PT / 10 PM ET, while Best Buy will offer its deals even sooner in some cases.
If you get a copy in time, you'll be able to get some free GTA 5 money for use in GTA Online by simply logging in right now.
GTA V first launched to critical acclaim back in 2013. GameSpot awarded it a 9/10 in our GTA V review, calling it "the bar by which all other open-world games, or indeed any game that aims for a cinematic feel, should be judged." Despite its age, Rockstar continues to roll out new content for its GTA Online mode, such as the recent After Hours nightclub update.
You can see all of the GTA V deals so far below. We'll continue to update this list as more deals are announced, so be sure to check back often for the best savings you can find on GTA V. This year, Black Friday falls on November 23; you can find even more discounts on other games, TVs, and more in our Black Friday roundup.
Black Friday is almost upon us, and with it come deals by the dozens. If you're in the market for PC games, it's hard to beat the annual Steam sale, which just kicked off in preparation for the retail holiday.
The Steam Autumn Sale lasts through November 27 at 10 AM PT. The sale prices have gone live, offering good deals on NBA 2K19 ($30), Civilization 6 ($18) and its Rise and Fall downloadable content ($20), Dead Cells ($20), and more. Steam is also offering discounts on some of its own hardware, like 30% off a Steam Controller, or the discontinued and nearly-depleted Steam Link for $2.50. Check below for highlights of some of the best deals. Keep in mind that in some cases you may be better off shopping at other PC specialists like Fanatical, which give Steam codes.
The storefront has also opened its nominees for the Steam Awards. You can vote for your Game of the Year and VR Game of the Year, along with more esoteric categories. The Labor of Love Award gives accolades for continued support of an older game, while the Better With Friends Award celebrates multiplayer experiences. The Best Alternate History Award even awards games that have created their own unique twist on the past. Participating in the awards can earn you XP and badges.
Given that Black Friday is a retail holiday, there are a lot more sales at brick-and-mortar stores as well as online retailers offering physical goods. Console digital storefronts are offering their own sales as well, though, along with Steam competitors. Check out our full roundup of Black Friday deals to plan even more of your shopping.

Ahead of the game's latest update, Week 8 of Fortnite Season 6 arrived, and it brought a new assortment of challenges to complete in Epic's popular battle royale game across PS4, Xbox One, PC, Nintendo Switch, and mobile devices. If you're hoping to snag the rest of Season 6's Battle Pass rewards, you'll want to complete as many challenges as you can, as doing so will reward you with the XP and Battle Stars needed to unlock them.
That isn't the only incentive to complete challenges; if you manage to clear all of the ones from a given week, you'll also earn a special loading screen, which hides a clue pointing to a free item that's hidden somewhere around the map. Depending on how many sets of weekly challenges you complete, you'll either be able to find a free Battle Star--which will level your Battle Pass up by one tier--or a Banner that you can use as a profile icon.
If you've completed every challenge up to and including Week 8's, you'll unlock the loading screen pictured below. It features the AIM skin--the Legendary outfit you receive after completing seven of this season's Hunting Party challenges--perched atop a roof viewing at a holographic map of the island. Look closely at the background, however, and you'll notice the outline of a Banner etched on the chimney just behind the character.
The area alluded to in the loading screen is Flush Factory, located in the southern edge of the island. Glide there at the start of a match, land on top of the roof, and you'll find the Banner near the chimney just as teased. Collect it and you'll be able to use it as your icon. We've highlight its exact location on the map below.
As is the case with previous Hunting Party rewards, you'll need to complete the requisite number of challenges and unlock the aforementioned loading screen before being able to collect this Banner. The item won't appear on the map unless you've cleared all of the necessary steps, so you won't simply be able to go to its location and collect it without putting in the necessary work.
Season 6 of Fortnite is winding down, giving you only have a few more weeks to unlock the rest of its Battle Pass cosmetics and other rewards. Week 8's challenges are all fairly straightforward, although its trickier missions task you with shooting clay pigeons and dancing in front of fish trophies. If you need help completing any of the challenges from this season, be sure to check out our Fortnite Season 6 challenge roundup. You can also find links to all of our Fortnite Season 6 Hunting Party challenge guides below.
Black Friday is only two days away, although most deals will be live by Thursday. When it comes to Nintendo Switch, you'll find a better slate of deals than last year, although there isn't a huge amount of variety (or steep discounts) on the console itself. Beyond that, though, there are a bunch of games on sale, and that list has now expanded further with Nintendo confirming the lineup for its Eshop Cyber Deals sale.
Many stores have already released their ads, and in some cases, their offers will be available hours or even days in advance. In terms of the Nintendo Switch console, we're seeing an identical deal popping up in a lot of places since we first saw it in Target's preview ad. Target, Walmart, and Best Buy will sell the system for $300, as per usual (or $299 in Walmart's case), but the system will be a special bundle that comes with a free copy of Mario Kart 8 Deluxe. Unfortunately, if you were hoping for a sub-$300 Switch, we have yet to see anyone drop the system's price. If the aforementioned bundle doesn't appeal to you, Kohl's has a more expensive option that also comes with $90 in Kohl's Cash.
A large number of Switch games are on sale, although the sheer scale of these deals is not the same as on PS4 or Xbox One, as you'd expect. Still, there are some good offers: last year's surprisingly excellent XCOM-like, Mario + Rabbids: Kingdom Battle, drops to $20 at Best Buy; Monster Hunter Generations Ultimate drops to $35 at Target, Walmart, and Best Buy; Arms goes to $35 at Walmart; and Bayonetta 2 (which includes the previous game) will be $40 at Best Buy.
Nintendo will presumably launch its own game sale through the Switch Eshop, but as of yet that has not yet begun, as is the case with the PSN and Xbox Live sales. We'll report back if (but, more likely, when) it does.
Below, you'll find all of the Black Friday deals on Switch consoles, games, and accessories that we've spotted so far. More deals should be announced in the day ahead, and we'll keep this page updated. For even more, check out our full Black Friday deals coverage.
Since February, The Pokemon Company has been giving away a different Legendary Pokemon for free every month in 2018 as part of its massive Year of Legendary Pokemon campaign. We've now come to the final month of the promotion, and for the last giveaway, The Pokemon Company has saved two Legendaries from the classic Gold and Silver versions: Lugia and Ho-Oh. [Update: The Lugia and Ho-Oh giveaway is scheduled to end in only a few more days, making this your last chance to claim the Legendary Pokemon if you haven't yet.]
For a limited time, you'll be able to get one of the Johto Legendaries in any of the seventh-generation Pokemon games on 3DS, but the way to claim them differs depending on where you live. Those in the US will, once again, need to visit a certain retailer to pick up a download code for the Pokemon; this time, the code will be available at GameStop from November 2-25. UK residents, meanwhile, will need to go to a participating Game store to pick up a code, while those in Canada can get one from EB Games.
As before, which Legendary you receive depends on which version you own; those with Sun or Ultra Sun will get Lugia, while players with Moon or Ultra Moon will get Ho-Oh. The Pokemon will also come equipped with a Gold Bottle Cap in the Ultra games, have a higher level, and know different movesets. You can see the full details below.

Once you've picked up a download code for the Legendaries, you'll need to redeem it using the Mystery Gift feature from the games' main menu. Select that, then choose the option to receive your gift via a code/password. Connect to the internet when prompted and input the download code; your Legendary will then be downloaded into your game. You'll then need to pick it up from the deliveryman waiting inside any Pokemon Center.
While you're at GameStop, you also still have a chance to pick up a free download code for the new Mythical Pokemon Zeraora, which is starring alongside Lugia in the latest Pokemon animated film, The Power of Us. The Zeraora distribution is scheduled to end on November 9. You can see all the other Pokemon giveaways going on now in our roundup of all the free Pokemon for Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon.
Things get dark in Turf War, the second episode of Marvel's Spider-Man's DLC campaign. After the relatively lighter and slower investigation into Black Cat's plans with the mob in The Heist, the first of three expansions that make up a campaign called The City That Never Sleeps, Spider-Man finds himself thrown into a full-on gang war at the start of the second. Turf War is The Empire Strikes Back of the campaign, and throughout the two or so hours of story missions trying to stop the powerful mob boss Hammerhead, Spider-Man is completely embattled and potentially outmatched.
Turf War doesn't pull its punches. Cops are dying, gangsters are threatening witnesses and openly committing murders, and Spider-Man is struggling to keep up with it all. The basic structure of the game remains the same--there are missions scattered around New York as part of the story campaign, and in between them you can wander around doing whatever you feel like--but the nature of Turf War makes every objective feel dangerously time-sensitive. When Hammerhead's men threaten to kill an informant, you'll want to swing across town to stop them. When gangsters prepare to attack police convoys and take their weapons, you'll be concerned that your presence is needed. This chapter is at its best when it feels like Spider-Man really is at war--and he's losing.
It helps that Turf War feels significantly more challenging than vanilla Spider-Man. Another new batch of enemies, these ones wearing jetpacks and sporting shields, join the array of enemies from both the base game and The Heist to make for some pretty dicey encounters. More than one fight in Turf War will put seasoned Spider-Men through their paces, especially if they're a bit rusty from the month off between the two DLC chapters. Scraping through some fights against an extremely well-outfitted enemy as Spider-Man swings madly from one crisis to another perfectly fits the tone of Turf War.
Spider-Man PS4 is at its best when it's taking close, intimate looks at the game's characters, and in Turf War the game casts that spotlight on Yuri Watanabe, Spidey's high-ranking friend in the NYPD. Yuri is operating with a personal vendetta against Hammerhead that builds in the early part of the DLC, and as she and Spider-Man try to stop them, his reliance on her authority and her reliance on his superpowers are weaknesses that strain their relationship and have serious consequences.
Yuri saw some characterization in the base game, but she was largely a voice on Spidey's radio advising him where to go. Here we spend more time with Yuri as the battle between the gangsters rages and she and Peter Parker grapple with their own exploited personal failings. You might wrap up Turf War's story campaign in a couple hours, but thanks to the frantic pace and challenging difficulty, those hours will feel fraught. The speed and challenge bring a bit of a different pace and tone to Marvel's Spider-Man, the variety of which makes Turf War new and fresh, while the dark focus on character channels the best parts of the game's main story.
As you clear Turf War's campaign, you'll also find a small handful of new open-world events to New York to complete, mostly just to give you a little more to do in this chapter. Like in The Heist, there's not a lot to them and you've gotten a taste of some or all of them before now, but they provide a few solid reasons to hang around the game after completing the story chapter. The gang war leads to new open-world crimes that are a bit different from the generic set that came in The Heist, which is welcome given that you'll need to clear quite a few of them to hit 100 percent completion in this chapter.
Screwball is also back with more challenges, some of which have new wrinkles added that make them a bit tougher than their vanilla counterparts. And there are new Hammerhead-themed base-clearing challenges, which can be pretty tough thanks to new locations and new enemies to fight.
As with The Heist, it's nice to have a reason to jump back into Spider-Man PS4 and mess around in its world, but its Insomniac's story and characterization that once again are making Spider-Man something worth revisiting. Turf War excellently ratchets up the stakes on Spidey and forces him to deal with a whole host of new personal and interpersonal issues. Together with its predecessor chapter, Turf War suggests there are plenty of stories Insomniac could continue to cover in Spider-Man, and that they'll all be worth swinging back to New York to experience.
Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald is in theaters now. Have you seen it yet? What did you think of Newt's latest adventure? Let us know in the comments below the article, and keep reading to find out what was going on with that ending.
The ending of Fantastic Beasts 2: The Crimes of Grindelwald was a doozy. At least one prominent character introduced in this sequel was unceremoniously killed, and even more importantly, that twist probably left your jaw on the floor. That's partially because it was so unexpected, and partially because it doesn't seem to make a shred of sense.
We're going to do our best to explain Crimes of Grindelwald's ending, so naturally, we're getting into spoilers for the Fantastic Beasts sequel. You've been warned.
Let's get this out of the way: Who is Credence, Ezra Miller's character? As Grindelwald reveals in the movie's final scene, Credence is actually Aurelius Dumbledore, a secret Dumbledore sibling. Yes, another secret Dumbledore. I say another because, as Harry Potter fans may recall, the former Hogwarts headmaster was a private, secretive man. It's unclear whether the general wizarding community was aware of his siblings, Aberforth and the long dead Ariana, but certainly Harry Potter and the other students at Hogwarts--and by extension we readers and fans--knew nothing of Dumbledore's family. The existence of his siblings toward the end of the series was treated as a reveal.
Now it turns out that Albus had yet another secret brother, and even he might not know about Aurelius. At least, the character (played here by Jude Law) gives no indication in this movie that he knows Credence's real identity. And once again, the series treats the existence of a Dumbledore sibling as a massive twist.
J.K. Rowling is the sole credited screenwriter on The Crimes of Grindelwald, so you can take what's in this movie as canon if you like. But it's a pretty cheap twist either way. For one thing, it was never set up at all throughout these movies, and it goes utterly unexplained--which, granted, makes it incredibly shocking. For another, Rowling already did the "secrets of Dumbledore's past" thing in the main Harry Potter series. Here, she's merely repeating herself, and it's way less interesting the second time around.
But the Aurelius Dumbledore twist raises even more questions beyond simply "why," like "How can Credence possibly be Albus Dumbledore's brother?" That isn't easy to answer, since it doesn't seem to make sense.
The Baby Switcheroo
First, let's get into the "how:" How did Aurelius Dumbledore wind up where he is? The movie explains this in the second-to-last scene's interminable exposition dump, so bear with me while I do my best to untangle it.
Credence's identity is a huge focus of The Crimes of Grindelwald, and most characters seem to think he's a lost son of the Lestrange family. Specifically, Credence is thought to be Corvus Lestrange, half brother to Leta Lestrange, Zoe Kravitz's character. But Leta reveals in the tomb scene that he can't be Corvus, because she knows Corvus is dead.
There's yet another new character who features prominently in this story: Yusuf Kama, who we know nothing about until this scene. According to Leta, her father put a spell on Yusuf's mother, who then died in childbirth having Leta. Leta's father remarried, producing another baby--Corvus. Yusuf sets out to kill Credence to get revenge against Leta's father, since he thinks Credence is Corvus Lestrange. However, while on a boat from England to New York, Leta switched Corvus with another baby because she got sick of his crying (solid big sis move). The boat sank, and Leta survived, but with the other child.
The reasons for a lot of this are unclear. Why does anyone think that Corvus is dead, since Leta and a baby that everyone should believe is her brother survived the boat sinking? And if everyone thinks Corvus is dead for some reason, why does anyone, including Yusuf, think Credence is Corvus? Why were Leta and Corvus on that boat to begin with? How could that other baby be a secret Dumbledore? What are the odds of those two babies being on the same boat? Why did Credence end up in foster care with some wizard-hating weirdo?
Some of these questions may be answered in the movie, but it's impossible to be sure after just one viewing, thanks to the film's convoluted story, confusing structure, huge cast of poorly developed new characters, and last minute info dump where all this is revealed so quickly it's hard to keep track. This is where the Fantastic Beasts movies really start to feel like the Star Wars prequels. But if we're going to try to make sense of it, we have to get into the Dumbledore family history.
Dumbledore Family History
Albus's parents were Percival and Kendra Dumbledore. The Harry Potter books establish a pretty clear timeline for their tragic story. Kendra Dumbledore died in 1899, the same year as Albus's younger sister, Ariana. And Percival was imprisoned in the wizard jail Azkaban, where he died some time after 1890. The Crimes of Grindelwald takes place sometime around 1927. Therefore, if Credence--AKA Aurelius--is Albus's full brother, he must be in his late thirties, which he clearly is not.
There are more possibilities if Aurelius is Albus's half brother. If Kendra had Aurelius late in her life--toward the end of the 19th century--then he would be in his late twenties during Crimes, which is more possible, although still unlikely, as Credence seems clearly meant to be a teenager in these films.
That leaves one last possibility, and the one that's most likely: Aurelius is Albus Dumbledore's half brother by their father, Percival. Percival spent the final years of his life in Azkaban, where the dementors suck all the joy and emotion out of the prisoners. It's hard to imagine Aurelius fathering a child and somehow smuggling that child out of Azkaban, but then again, who knows what Rowling has in mind?
What's certain is that it isn't explained in this movie, so let's hope we get the full story in the next one. Either way, it seems incredibly strange that Albus Dumbledore has yet another sibling, and that this one was somehow lost to history, despite being the focus of the entire magical world circa 1927. No one remembers any of this by the time Harry Potter starts digging through Dumbledore's past in the 1990s? Rita Skeeter uncovers no hints of Aurelius's existence while gathering dirt for her book, The Life and Lies of Albus Dumbledore? No doubt we'll find out in future Fantastic Beasts films, but it seems for that to make sense, Credence's true identity will need to stay a secret, which I can't imagine will prove satisfying from a narrative perspective.
Anyway. By the end of Fantastic Beasts 2, Grindelwald is poised to make his move, with a small army of followers that now includes both Credence/Aurelius and, for reasons that make absolutely no sense, Queenie. Newt, Dumbledore, and the aurors are ready to fight back, which should hopefully make the next Fantastic Beasts movie a little more straightforward.
The Blood Pact
There's one other facet to Crimes of Grindelwald's ending that gives us hope for Fantastic Beasts 3 and beyond: Dumbledore is in possession of the blood pact he made with Grindelwald. Oh, by the way, blood pacts are now a thing in Harry Potter I guess. Who needs unbreakable vows when you have blood pacts?
The blood pact between Dumbledore and Grindelwald is a physical, magic McGuffin that Grindelwald has had in his possession all along. It's the reason why Dumbledore insists several times in this movie that he can't be the one to confront Grindelwald. As teenagers, the two were close--"closer than brothers," and in fact, they were most likely romantically entangled. Thus, they made a blood pact that apparently prevents Dumbledore from fighting Grindelwald.
Thanks to Newt's niffler, Dumbledore is now in possession of that blood pact, and he believes he can destroy it, paving the way for the epic confrontation we know these movies are headed toward. At least that's something to look forward to.
From the opening scenes, you know exactly where Creed II is headed. Creed II is to the original Creed what Rocky II was to the movie that started it all: Adonis Creed starts out on top of the world, which means he has nowhere to go but down. He'll hit rock bottom, linger there for a while, then drag himself back up for a triumphant return. That's the basic outline of Creed II. It's intimately familiar, and it's so well executed that you won't mind the story's inevitability.
That isn't to say there are no surprises. The story of Michael B. Jordan's Adonis Creed, son of Apollo Creed, parallels that of his predecessors, but it's not a simple cut and paste. Rocky Balboa (Sylvester Stallone) has his own arc in this film, while Bianca (the incredibly talented Tessa Thompson) really comes into her own as a character. Maybe most surprising of all is the journey of Ivan Drago, returning villain from Rocky IV, played once again by the great Dolph Lundgren.
Like the original Creed, Creed II is about legacy. Adonis can't escape the past, and he has the extra burden of carrying Rocky's legacy in addition to his own father's. Back in 1985, in Rocky IV, Rocky defeated Ivan Drago after Drago killed Apollo Creed in the ring. Now Drago, disgraced for decades in his home country, returns with a son who's been training his whole life for this moment. They throw down the gauntlet in Philadelphia, and Adonis has no choice but to accept.
At least, that's how he sees it. But Creed II moves past the simple theme of legacy when Rocky asks Adonis, "Why do you need to fight this fight?" Why does Adonis accept that his father's and his mentor's problems are now his problems? What does he actually want?
As in the last movie, Jordan brings a huge amount of depth to the character. It wouldn't be a Rocky movie without some training montages, and Creed II has some really creative ones. More importantly, Jordan absolutely sells how hard the character pushes himself. And Adonis doesn't take defeat lightly. Rock bottom really looks grim for him, thanks to Jordan's vulnerable, emotional performance. And his physical condition is staggeringly impressive--the amount of training that must have gone into making his body look like this is hard to imagine.
As Adonis's partner Bianca, Thompson proves in Creed II that she can bring a unique presence to any role. As essentially a supporting character for Adonis, Bianca might have felt like a second stringer in another actress's hands, but Thompson steals the show more than once. As the viewer, you believe that Adonis would collapse without her support in their personal life. She's his foundation. And Stallone is still Stallone--capable of expressing a surprising amount of emotion for a guy whose face looks like that. He may actually have become a better actor in his advanced years.
And then there's Lundgren. Like Rocky, Ivan Drago is well past his fighting years--although unlike Rocky, Drago still cuts a physically intimidating figure. His son Viktor (Florian Munteanu) is a monster of a man who spends most of the movie yelling and throwing punches that look like they could break through a brick wall. But the elder Drago is such an impressive presence--especially next to the clearly exhausted Stallone--that you feel genuinely scared for Rocky during an early confrontation when it seems like the two old rivals might come to blows.
Creed II accomplishes something incredible when it humanizes Drago. Yes, he's still the bad guy of the story, but he's not a villain. He's an ex-boxer who's essentially been in exile; disgraced at home, abandoned by family and country. Drago's path, much like Adonis's, was inevitable. And Creed II spends enough time with Ivan and Viktor that you truly start to feel for them. Training montages flip back and forth between Adonis's cushy apartment, beautiful girlfriend, and fancy gyms, and Ivan and Viktor's dingy home, ratty facilities, and generally lonely life. Both sets of characters are just doing what they have to do to improve their lot.
Creed II's fights, the main event, are breathtakingly personal. Adonis and Viktor make every punch look and feel real. The camera often stays uncomfortably close, making excellent use of a first person perspective to make you feel like you're literally in the fight, taking those hits along with the characters. The blood, sweat, and tears feel so immediate that you'll forget about caring whether you think you know what the outcome is going to be. Jordan and Thompson invest so much emotion that you can't help but feel along with them.
Creed II comes with a different director--Steven Caple Jr. replaces Ryan Coogler--but it nearly matches the original Creed in quality. It's Rocky sequel comfort food: exactly what you want, executed with amazing finesse. The only question left is where the series will go from here, as Adonis Creed now has his own legacy to maintain.
The Good
The Bad
Emotional performances, especially from Jordan and Thompson
Thanksgiving is now a day away, and while Black Friday 2018 begins on November 23, most of the deals will have begun by Thursday. It's a great opportunity to buy a PS4, and you'll be able to get plenty of cheap things to go with it, including quality games and PS Plus. Sony's digital PSN games sale is already live, and below you'll find all the deals from Walmart, Best Buy, GameStop, Target, and other retailers.
Sony itself has announced its Black Friday promotions, and you'll find a lot of what retailers have to offer line up with these deals. When it comes to PS4 consoles, the best option announced so far is from Target, Best Buy, Walmart, and Sam's Club all of which get you a PlayStation 4 Slim 1TB and Spider-Man as a pack-in game for $200 (or $199 in the case of Walmart and Sam's Club). That's a great deal, seeing as the console normally costs around $300 and Spider-Man costs $60. Given it's part of Sony's official lineup of deals, you can expect to find this pretty much everywhere--and not only that, but the deal seems to have gone live early at most every store.
In terms of PS4 accessories, another doorbuster Target will offer is a PlayStation VR bundle that comes with a camera, Move controllers, Creed: Rise to Glory, and Superhot VR, all for $250; that deal is mirrored at Best Buy. If you want a cheaper route, several stores will have a $200 PSVR bundle. Also, both Target, Best Buy, and Kohl's will have DualShock 4 controllers available for $40, while Walmart beats them at $39. Again $200 for PSVR and $40 for controllers are among Sony's official Black Friday deals, so expect to see those from a lot of stores.
On the PS4 games side of the equation, there's plenty to save money on. The recent release Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 will drop to $40 at Walmart. Fallout 76 drops to $40 at GameStop in-store, while PSN has Spider-Man for $40. Another recent one, Shadow of the Tomb Raider, will be available for $30. Both Detroit: Become Human and God of War will be available for $25 each, as will Far Cry 5. Assassin's Creed Odyssey is at its cheapest (so far) at Best Buy, where it'll be $30.
We've gathered all of the PlayStation 4 deals announced so far into one place so you can get the best deal on whatever it is you're looking for. We'll keep this article updated as more retailers announce their Black Friday plans, so check back later; for now, the big ads we've gotten are from Target, Best Buy, and Walmart. Depending on exactly what you're looking for, you'll be going to a different store.
You can find all of the PS4 Black Friday deals below, but you'll have to wait until closer to November 23 to get the discounts.

The Year of Legendary Pokemon may be coming to an end soon, but The Pokemon Company still has a few more freebies in store for Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon players. Last year, it gave away several special Pikachu wearing Ash's hat to commemorate the release of the series' 20th film, Pokemon the Movie: I Choose You, and now you'll have another chance to add them to your collection.
From November 9-30, The Pokemon Company is distributing five Pikachu via Mystery Gift, each of which is sporting one of the various hats Ash Ketchum has worn throughout the anime series. Additionally, each Pikachu comes at a different level and knows a slightly different moveset that reflects the attacks it used at that point in the series.
While you could only claim one of the Pikachu the last time they were available, you'll be able to download all five this time around. To do so, you'll need to input the appropriate code via the Mystery Gift feature, which can be accessed from Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon's main menu. You can find the codes and other details on each Pikachu below.
Once you've selected Mystery Gift, you'll need to choose the option to receive your gift with a code/password in order to get the Pikachu. Connect to the internet when prompted and enter the code of the Pikachu you want, and the Pokemon will download into your game. You'll then need to pick it up from the deliveryman waiting by the desk inside any Pokemon Center.
In addition to Ash's Pikachu, Pokemon fans still have time to claim the last free Legendaries of 2018: Lugia and Ho-Oh. These are being distributed from November 2-25 via a download code, which you can pick up from a participating GameStop store. You can see all the other Pokemon giveaways going on now in our roundup of all the free Pokemon for Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon.
The Monster Hunter series is known for its loot, as players defeat enormous beasts for parts so they can craft some stylish duds and weapons from their bones and skins. Our first look at the upcoming Monster Hunter film starring Milla Jovovich and Ron Perlman shows that aspect is definitely making the transition to the big screen.
In the movie still shared by Sony, we see Jovovich and costar Tony Jaa dressed in some post-apocalyptic leathers and metals. But it's Jaa's weaponry that really catches the eye. In one hand he's brandishing a massive sword that appears to be the Giant Jawblade, while the other hand holds a more obscured bone-bow.
That signals that the movie will be true to the series in at least one aspect: the concept of hunters crafting their gear out of the fallen remains of monsters is alive and well. Presumably after completing a hunt they won't have to farm it a dozen more times to get the full set.
Jovovich plays Artemis, a UN military commander who gets transported to a different universe crawling with beasts. She teams up with Hunter (Jaa) to close the portal and keep the monsters from coming to earth. Along the way they'll meet up with familiar characters from the universe like the Admiral. It's being directed by Paul W.S. Anderson, who also directed his wife Jovovich in adaptations of Capcom's Resident Evil franchise. A release date has not been announced.
This year's Black Friday extravaganza is almost here, with many of the big deals happening on Thanksgiving, November 22. However, Black Friday is all about the day after, when stores offer deep discounts on various items, from video games, to televisions, and more. And if you're a person who purchases physical copies of movies on DVD, Blu-ray, and 4K, there are some fantastic deals you're going to want to check out.
The best part about most of these Black Friday movie deals is that the majority of the physical discs--primarily Blu-ray and 4K--come with digital copy codes. So you'll be buying these movies cheaper than you can get them through a service like Google Play, iTunes, or Vudu, and a physical copy comes with it.
There are quite a few sales to keep you eyes on, including Barnes and Noble's sale on 50% off of Criterion Collection Blu-rays. The only Criterion movies shown in the circular were Ingmar Bergman's Cinema, The Tree of Life, and The Princess Bride, but more will be on sale.
Best Buy has a long list of DVDs, Blu-rays, and 4K movies on sale during the event. You can pick up either of the Super Troopers movies on Blu-ray for $4 each or movies from this past year for cheap: Avengers: Infinity War ($7), Black Panther ($7), Sicario: Day of the Soldado ($6), or Game Night ($8). The best movie deals to come to Best Buy are Star Wars: The Complete Saga (Episodes 1-6) for $20 and The Godfather Collection for $10.
Every store has different operating hours during Thanksgiving, Black Friday, and the weekend following the holiday, so take a look at our store hours guide, and make sure to check with your local retailers as store hours may vary.
Below you'll find a list of all the movie sales from retailers during Black Friday. Many of these stores don't have all its discounted movies listed on the various sites, but more will be added to the Black Friday sales. However, don't expect any huge surprises as these retailers want to put its best deals in the circulars to get you in the stores.
It's now Wednesday, meaning Thanksgiving is a day away. Although Black Friday 2018 might officially take place on Friday, the vast majority of its deals will begin on Thursday--if they aren't already live. Sony's PSN and Microsoft's Xbox Live sales on digital PS4/Xbox One games are underway, and the discounts on PS4 and Xbox One bundles have been made available, too.
Best Buy's early access sale has ended for the time being, though it is still offering some deals on its website before it rolls out the full promotion on Thursday. Ebay has had some terrific deals leading up to Black Friday, and today (Wednesday only), it has some the best Xbox One and Nintendo Switch deals we've seen. Meanwhile, the PS4 Spider-Man bundle is on sale at numerous stores days before we expected, and PS Plus is $40 at a whole bunch of retailers. And after looking like Spider-Man and Fallout 76 wouldn't be discounted, we've now learned of deals on both.
Black Friday officially begins on November 23, and beyond what you can get now, we already know most of what to expect. We started out by getting Target's ad early, giving us a look at what will be on sale across games, tech, and entertainment, and that's been followed by several other huge ones, Walmart and Best Buy. Everything from 4K TVs to PS4, Xbox One X, and Nintendo Switch are on sale, not to mention games and movies ranging from Red Dead Redemption 2 and Star Wars to Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 and Deadpool 2. GameStop has also finally shared its ad, greatly expanding the list of deals.
As always, tracking what's on sale and where can be an overwhelming task, as can determining what the best deals are. We'll be doing our best to help you stay on top of this so you can make the most of Black Friday (and Cyber Monday immediately after that) without having to drown in a sea of circulars and hastily scrawled post-it notes. Below, you'll find our complete coverage of the event; be sure to check back as more ads are revealed in the lead up to the big day.
If you're looking for all things related to PS4, we've collected every deal announced so far for the platform--including consoles, accessories, and games--in one story. Among the highlights is a $200 PS4 bundle that comes with Marvel's Spider-Man at Target.
Those specifically hunting for a PlayStation 4 are in luck, as the console will be on sale in addition to many of its games. We'll be keeping an eye on all the ads as they come out to find out exactly where you should head for a PS4.
Given the popularity of PS4, there have been surprisingly few deals on PS Plus, but there are some--including one that will get you a year-long membership for only $40, which is about as good as PS Plus discounts get.
For a look at all things Xbox One, we've put together a roundup of every announced deal related to the system. That includes deals on consoles, games, and accessories. One of the best offers we've seen so far is a $400 Xbox One X bundle with a whopping $120 in Kohl's Cash from (you guessed it) Kohl's.
If you're hunting for an Xbox One S, you'll have some options this year. We're keeping track of the best offers on the console to help make it easy for you to pick one up.
Those able to spend extra for an Xbox One X are also in line for some discounts, with many saving you upwards of $100. There's even a deal at Best Buy on a special-edition version of the console itself.
Say you're not interested in wading through a huge number of deals--there are dozens upon dozens of games on sale--but want some good prices. We've selected what we think are the top deals of interest to those with an Xbox One (or anyone just now picking one up).
Whether you already own an Xbox One or are getting one this year, you may want an Xbox Live Gold subscription--it'll net you free games every month, exclusive discounts, and the ability to play online. Here are all the top deals on a membership.
Rather than buy individual games, you might prefer to get access to Microsoft's Netflix-style service, Xbox Game Pass. Fortunately, there are a small number (but very good) deals on memberships this Black Friday.
Nintendo Switch has had a big second year on the market, and whether you're looking for discounted games or some kind of sale involving system itself, you'll have at least a limited number of options to choose from. That includes a free copy of Mario Kart 8 Deluxe when buying the console at Target.
With more deals than last year, there's a lot of Switch offers to parse through. We've done our best to round up what we think are the best Switch console and game deals you can find this year.
Fortunately for those looking to pick up a Nintendo Switch this year, there will be Black Friday deals at a number of retailers. However, many of them appear to be identical and favor a free pack-in game rather than actual discounts on the standard price.
TVs are always one of the hot-ticket items on Black Friday, and 2018 is no exception. We've rounded up all of the discounts so far and will continue to do so as they roll in.
Walmart has a huge ad full of games on sale, along with consoles and accessories. One of its best deals see Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 drop to just $40 despite its relatively recent release.
What's outlined above is a big ad--Walmart has a ton of games on sale. If you'd prefer a more manageable look at it, we've rounded up what stuck out to us as the best gaming deals at the retailer this year.
You'll find not just games on sale at Walmart, but a ton of movies and TV shows, too. Whether you're looking for DVDs or Blu-rays, you're in luck, while 4K fans can find some good films in the sub-$10 range, which is atypical.
If you're more interested in how you obtain and consume your entertainment and games, you might be in the market for a TV, streaming device, or soundbar. If that's the case, Walmart is among the places you'll find a number of cheap options.
GameStop has updated its preview ad to the full deal, and it's packed with a ton of games. And while the retailer sometimes doesn't offer the same kind of discounts we see elsewhere, it's got some of the best prices this Black Friday.
The GameStop ad is huge, and you might need some help finding the best deals. We've combed through it for our picks of the top offers to give you an easy guide to shopping at GameStop this Black Friday.
Best Buy has some sort of sale on each of the main consoles--PS4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch--but its lineup of deals on individual games is frankly staggering. We've compiled the massive list of everything on sale in one place.
If you'd rather not dig through the enormous list of gaming items that Best Buy has discounted, we've put together a curated list of what we think are the store's top deals.
Alongside all of its games, Best Buy was a hide array of movies and TV shows on sale, spanning DVDs, Blu-rays, and 4Ks. In particular, there are some sweet sales for Marvel and Star Wars fans.
As is to be expected from Best Buy, a huge portion of it is dedicated to all things technology, including TVs. We've rounded up everything you can expect to see this year at the retailer.
Target was the first big store out of the gate to release its Black Friday ad early, and it included a ton of stuff of interest to game fans. You'll find a PS4 with Spider-Man for $200, among other things.
If you're interested in what Target will have to offer on the gaming front without wading through a long list, we've rounded up some recommendations on the best deals it has this year. This covers consoles (with deals on Switch, PS4, and Xbox One) and games for those systems.
Alongside its game offerings, Target's early Black Friday ad gave us a look at its many movies and TV shows that will be on sale, and it includes some great sub-$10 4K movies.
Black Friday is always a great opportunity to pick up a new TV for relatively cheap, and 4K TVs are among the variety of tech items you'll find discounted at Target.
Again, with such a wide variety of TVs, tech, movies, and TV shows on sale, it can be hard to figure out what's actually a good deal. We've put together a list of what we think are Target's best deals.
Sony has kicked off the PlayStation Store's Black Friday sale, and it discounts games for all PSN members. While the prices aren't always as good as those offered on physical games, this will be your most reliable place to find digital PS4 game discounts.
Xbox Live's annual Black Friday sale is already live if you've an Xbox Live Gold member, getting you discounts on digital games. It runs through November 27, although even once it opens up to non-Gold members, the deals may not be quite as good if you're not a subscriber.
Microsoft's retail outfit always has Black Friday deals that include Xbox One consoles, and this year is no exception. While it hasn't yet revealed offers on individual games, we know Microsoft Store is among your options for getting a $400 Xbox One X.
Kohl's doesn't sell many games, but it oftentimes has some excellent deals come Black Friday. 2018 is no exception, as it might be the best place to buy an Xbox One X.
Kohl's might primarily be a clothes retailer, but it does sell a limited number of electronics, like TVs. These are discounted in addition to netting you some Kohl's Cash.
Although you'll need a membership to take advantage, Sam's Club has some good offers on gaming and tech items, although its game deals are only on PS4 and Xbox One and simply match what we've seen elsewhere.
Whether you're looking for games or hardware to upgrade or build a PC, Newegg may have what you're looking for. The store has outlined all the deals you can expect from it this Black Friday.
Buying directly from Steam isn't the only way to get Steam games, and it's often by going through other retailers that you get the best prices. Fanatical, for instance, has dropped the prices of numerous Steam PC games.
Ebay has been quite aggressive with Black Friday this year, first beating certain prices offered by certain stores and then offering its own slate of terrific deals. It's now outlined the highlights of what to expect, before and during both Black Friday and Cyber Monday.
Below you'll find roundups of all the deals on specific games, but we've also assembled a list of what we think are Black Friday 2018's best deals across PS4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch.
Perhaps the biggest game release of the year came in October, likely too close to Black Friday for us to see extensive deals. And while we're not seeing much in the way of price cuts on the base games, there are some other sales of note.
Black Ops 4 represented a significant shift for the Call of Duty series, dumping a traditional single-player campaign and introducing a battle royale mode, Blackout. It's another game that, despite having only just been released, will be on sale come Black Friday.
Playground Games' terrific open-world driving game, Forza Horizon 4, is among the many games you'll find on sale this Black Friday. While you can play it through Xbox Game Pass, those looking to buy their own copy have numerous options.
God of War has been one of the year's standout games so far. It will be discounted this Black Friday, and thanks to the fact that it came out earlier in the year, the savings are even greater than with some of its fellow triple-A games that launched more recently.
The newest entry in the SoulCalibur series is a good one, and it of course brings with it a guest character--The Witcher's Geralt. Despite having only come out in late October, you'll find it for nearly half price on Black Friday.
It looked as if Marvel's Spider-Man wouldn't be discounted on Black Friday outside of the $200 PS4 bundles, but it turns out you will be able to get a copy of it for as little as $40.
Another game that seemed like it would go without any true Black Friday deals is Fallout 76, which would be understandable considering it was only just released. However, it will in fact go on sale for $40.
The most popular basketball game series returns with another strong entry in 2018. As with all of the year's big annual sports games, NBA 2K19 sees a nice discount on Black Friday.
With more than 100 million copies shipped, it seems like everyone should own a copy of Grand Theft Auto V by now. That's apparently not the case, as it continues to sell extremely well--and if you're among those looking to pick it up, you can do so on the cheap this Black Friday
WWE's annual wrestling sim, WWE 2K19, features a larger roster than ever before. And like so many of the other fall releases, this is one that will be on sale come Black Friday.
Another popular annual sports game is FIFA 19, which comes packed with a variety of different modes, including the wildly popular Ultimate Team. You'll have some extra cash to pump into FUT thanks to these Black Friday deals.
There's never been a better time to jump into Destiny 2 thanks to the release of the Forsaken expansion. Legendary Collection gets you the base game and all DLC released for it to date.
Although it's now a couple years old, Ubisoft's competitive shooter continues to grow strong, thanks in large part to a consistent stream of new content. As you'd expect, Siege will be discounted this Black Friday.
If you've got a need to catch 'em all, there's some good options on picking up a Pokemon game, and the hardware to play it. Although the latest games to be released in the franchise are Let's Go Pikachu and Let's Go Eevee, they're unlikely to be discounted soon. Instead, Pokemon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon can be purchased at a good price, and they're great games too. If you need hardware to play the games, there's a pretty nice 2DS bundle too.
Want to challenge your friends and family to some virtual football this holiday season? The latest entry in the Madden series is the way to go. Whether you're an Xbox One or PlayStation 4 owner, there's discounts across all versions available.
The third and final entry in the new series of Tomb Raider games, Shadow of the Tomb Raider, only just arrived in September, but you'll be able to find it for half price during Black Friday sales.
Marvel movies are among the biggest in the industry, and so Black Friday wouldn't be complete without the MCU being discounted. These include recent 4K releases like Avengers and Avengers: Age of Ultron.
The biggest movie of the year will see some steep discounts during Black Friday, including on the 4K UHD version of the movie (which nets you bonus Blu-ray and digital copies).
If you're looking to fill out your collection of anime, there's a wide variety on sale this Black Friday, and we've rounded up picks for some of what we think are the best deals around.
It's difficult enough to keep track of all the deals, but further complicating matters are the way in which sales are staggered. No longer can you expect to just show up on Friday (or Thursday night) and be early--sales are starting hours or even days before then. We've done our best to compile all of this information in a digestible way.
We should have a firm idea of everything that will be on sale well in advance of Black Friday, but while we wait for all of the ads to come in, we've previewed what to expect from this year's big day. That may help you determine if you should buy something now or wait for a possible deal later this month.
Anybody can walk into a story on Black Friday or browse to a retailer's website, but there are tips and tricks to best approaching it. We've put together a guide to help you make the most of all the big sales.
Super Smash Bros. Ultimate features a very full roster of every Smash character ever, along with some new additions. One conspicuously absent member of the roster is Waluigi, the Luigi doppelganger who has featured in several Mario sports games. The fan outcry has been ongoing, and rest assured, Nintendo has heard you.
Speaking to Nintendo of Canada's Andrew Collins, Okay Cool noted the fan campaign to put Waluigi in the game, including an appearance in the Washington Post. Collins made it clear the company has seen your pleas and passion.
"I think it's great when something builds naturally because, you know, as a marketer, when you have something that goes viral like that it's brilliant," he said. "You can't buy that. You can't create it. And when the fans do something like that, it's amazing. But it's so good to see from a passionate side of things. And let's face it, it's funny. I've seen some of the photos. I've seen some of the artwork that people have created, and it's fantastic to see their passion."
Obviously, this isn't a promise that Waluigi will actually come to the game, but an acknowledgement from Nintendo that it has seen the response is more than nothing. That may be enough to prompt the company to add him as downloadable content.
Nintendo has already announced the addition of five more fighters are coming as DLC, along with the free Piranha Plant DLC for early purchasers. Each pack will cost $6 and come with one new fighter, one new stage, and a variety of music tracks. They will be available as a bundle for $25, which will also net you an outfit based on Rex from Xenoblade Chronicles 2. The roster for these DLC fighters is already set, so if Waluigi is ultimately destined to Smash with the rest of his compatriots, the plans are already in-motion.
The last round of announced characters included Incineroar from Pokemon and Ken from Street Fighter, and you can see them in action here. Smash Bros. Ultimate will hit on December 7. For more details check out our pre-order guide.
Black Friday is still a couple of days away but the discounts are already rolling in. And they're not just limited to the US, where Thanksgiving and Black Friday is actually celebrated. UK retailers are jumping on the bandwagon and offering discounts to entice would-be shoppers into spending some cash. If you're in the market for Call of Duty: Black Ops 4, high-street retailer John Lewis is selling it for £30, which is the cheapest we've seen it.
That price goes for both the PS4 and Xbox One versions. It must be noted, however, that delivery is going to add to the price. The cheapest option is Click & Collect for £2, and will require you to head to a store to pick up the item even if you order it online. Still, £32 is pretty good for the game, considering it's a very recent release.
Naturally, this deal will only be available while stocks last, and given that John Lewis isn't a video game specialist don't be surprised if it's out of stock relatively quickly, especially at that price.
Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 earned a 8/10 from GameSpot. In her review, Kallie Plagge said the game's "three main modes are substantial." She continued: "Multiplayer introduces more tactical mechanics without forcing you into them, and it largely strikes a good balance. Zombies has multiple deep, secret-filled maps to explore, though its returning characters don't hold up and prove distracting.
"Finally, Blackout pushes Call of Duty in an entirely new direction, making use of aspects from both multiplayer and Zombies for a take on the battle royale genre that stands on its own. Sure, there isn't a traditional single-player campaign, but with the depth and breadth of what is there, Black Ops 4 doesn't need it." You can read the full Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 review for a more in-depth analysis of it.
Those in the US looking for a deal on Black Ops 4 also have plenty of options, as GameStop, Walmart, Target, and more have already revealed the deals they're going to have for Black Friday, some of which are live now. Check out our Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 Black Friday deals roundup for more details.
If you're in the market for video game hardware this holiday season, today is your day. While lots of Black Friday deals are flying around this week, some of the best discounts you'll find are available today only (November 21) at Ebay. That's because between now and 5 PM PT (8 PM ET), you can enter promo code PICKFAST at checkout in the Ebay app to get 15% off nearly anything on the entire site. Yes, you will need the latest version of the Ebay app to get the discount, but here are the links to spare you a search.
With that out of the way, here are the best console deals we've found.
Xbox One X 1TB Console
Xbox One X consoles normally retail for $500. Newegg via Ebay has them on sale for $100 off right now. Tack on the 15% discount with promo code PICKFAST, and you've brought the price down to a quite-reasonable $340.
Nintendo Switch is sure to be a hot item this holiday season, but unlike the competing consoles, it almost never goes on sale. But thanks to the Ebay discount, you can get $45 off right now. Newegg via Ebay has Switch consoles for their normal retail price of $300, but the promo code PICKFAST brings the price down to $255.
Ebay doesn't appear to have any spectacular deals on PS4 consoles, even when you factor in the 15% off promo code. However! Sony is offering an unbeatable Black Friday sale price on PS4 Slim consoles bundled with Spider-Man. You can get this swinging bundle for $200 at a variety of retailers.
If you have a PS4, adding a PSVR headset is well worth its normal price--especially with amazing games like Tetris Effect, Moss, Astro Bot: Rescue Mission, Beat Saber, Resident Evil 7, and Skyrim VR on the platform. But today you can take the already-fantastic Black Friday sale price of $250 and knock 15% off, bringing PSVR down to the lowest price we've ever seen.
Pokemon: Let's Go Pikachu and Let's Go Eevee are now available on Switch, marking the series' proper debut on Nintendo's hybrid console. While not direct remakes of Pokemon Yellow version, the pair follow its template very closely, featuring the same setting, story beats, and the original 151 Pokemon (plus their Alolan variants, which could be acquired either from certain NPCs or by transferring them over from Pokemon Go).
Despite their many similarities to Yellow, Let's Go Pikachu and Eevee do introduce some new elements to the series--most notably Meltan, a brand-new Mythical Pokemon that hasn't appeared in any previous mainline Pokemon game. Fittingly for a Mythical Pokemon, Meltan can't be acquired through normal means, so we've put together a guide explaining just how you can add it and its evolved form, Melmetal, to your collection.
How To Catch Meltan
The key to getting a Meltan in Let's Go involves connecting the games to Pokemon Go. As previously mentioned, you can link the mobile title to Let's Go via Bluetooth and transfer any Gen 1 Pokemon you've captured there over to the Switch games. The Pokemon you've transferred will then appear in the Go Park, a new facility that replaces the Safari Zone in Fuchsia City. See our full guide to connecting Go and Let's Go for more details.
To begin a transfer, simply speak to the receptionist at the front desk of the Go Park and follow the on-screen prompts. This is a one-way process; any Pokemon you send from Go to Let's Go can't be returned to the mobile game. However, you'll need to complete at least one transfer in order to catch Meltan, as sending a Pokemon to Let's Go will reward you with a special item in Go: the Mystery Box.
The Mystery Box is the key to summoning Meltan in Pokemon Go. Once opened, the Mythical Pokemon will begin appearing in the wild for a limited time, and you'll be able to capture it just as you would any other monster. However, you'll need to act quickly to catch as many as you can; the Mystery Box only remains open for 30 minutes, and you'll need to wait a full seven days before you can activate it again by transferring another Pokemon.
While you can typically only transfer the original 151 Pokemon, Meltan is the sole exception. Once you've managed to catch one in Go, you'll be able to send it over to the Let's Go titles the same way you would any Gen 1 Pokemon. You'll then be able to recapture it in the Go Park to add it to your team.
At the moment, this is the only way to obtain Meltan in either Go or Let's Go. You won't be able to find it in the wild in the Switch games, so if you're hoping to add one to your collection, you'll need to link the two titles together. However, The Pokemon Company has teased that a new Special Research questline revolving around Meltan will be available for Pokemon Go players sometime this winter, suggesting there will be other ways to acquire it in the future.
Meltan is a pure Steel-type Pokemon that stands at eight inches tall, making it one of the smallest monsters in the Pokemon universe. While it may not look particularly intimidating, it does have a notable distinction: Meltan is the first Mythical Pokemon capable of evolving, and it's able to grow into a hulking monster called Melmetal.
How To Evolve Meltan
As before, Pokemon Go is the key to obtaining Melmetal. In order to evolve Meltan, you'll need to feed it enough Candy in Go, just as you would evolve most other Pokemon in the mobile game. These are acquired each time you catch a Meltan or send one to Professor Willow, but be warned: you're going to need to capture a lot of Meltans if you're hoping to get its evolution, as the Mythical Pokemon requires a whopping 400 Candies to evolve.
Given how long it takes to reopen the Mystery Box, amassing enough Candy to evolve Meltan is a daunting prospect. Fortunately, if you've stocked up on Rare Candies, you'll be able to use them to expedite the process. You can also feed Pinap Berries to Meltan during the capture phase, which will increase the number of Candies you receive if you successfully catch it. Once you've evolved Meltan, you can transfer your Melmetal to the Let's Go games and recapture it in the Go Park.
Just as its base form, Melmetal is a pure Steel-type Pokemon. According to the series' lore, it was worshiped in ancient times because of its ability to create metal. It is also capable of learning a brand-new move called Double Iron Bash, a two-hit Steel-type attack that can make the opposing Pokemon flinch.
Pokemon Go's first Gen 4 Legendary, Giratina, may no longer be available in the game, but another rare Pokemon from the Sinnoh region has now taken its place. Cresselia, a Psychic-type Legendary first introduced in Pokemon Diamond and Pearl, has begun appearing in Raid Battles around the world, giving players their first chance to capture one for a limited time.
As usual, in order to catch Cresselia, you'll first need to team up with other players in real life and head to a Gym where a Cresselia Raid is taking place. Once there, you'll be able to challenge the Legendary Pokemon to a battle; if you manage to successfully defeat it, you'll earn a handful of Premier Balls and a chance to capture it.
Cresselia will appear as a Raid Battle until December 18, giving you nearly a month to add one to your collection. As mentioned above, it is a pure Psychic-type, making it susceptible to Dark, Bug, and Ghost Pokemon. Tyranitar, Scizor, and Giratina are particularly useful, but you'll need to bring along a powerful team to bring Cresselia down thanks to its high HP and defense stats.
Cresselia isn't the only new Gen 4 Pokemon to arrive in Go recently; last week, Niantic introduced a handful of Gen 4 evolutions to the game. Players can now get Electivire, Magmortar, Rhyperior, Porygon-Z, and other evolved Pokemon in Go. To do so, you'll need a new evolutionary item called the Sinnoh Stone, as well as the requisite amount of Candy.
The Gen 4 evolutions arrived alongside the ongoing Hatchathon event. From now until November 27, you'll be able to hatch Pokemon that have evolved forms that were first introduced in the series' Gen 4 titles, such as Rhydon, Porygon, and Magby, from 2 km Eggs. You also have a chance of hatching a rare shiny Elekid during the event.
The newest pair of Pokemon adventures, Let's Go Pikachu and Let's Go Eevee, are now available for Nintendo Switch. Among other things, the games feature connectivity with Pokemon Go, allowing you to transfer certain monsters over from the mobile title. In fact, doing this is quickest way to unlock the new Mythical Pokemon Meltan, but even if you don't own either of the Switch titles, you'll have a way to get the new Hex Nut Pokemon in Go.
A new Special Research questline centering around Meltan is now live. By completing the missions assigned by Professor Willow, you'll be able to encounter the new Mythical Pokemon in Pokemon Go, even without connecting it to either of the Let's Go titles. The new questline arrived much earlier than anticipated; The Pokemon Company had previously teased that Special Research related to Meltan would be available this "winter," although it hadn't provided a time frame.
In addition to the new Special Research, Niantic is rolling out a few more special events to commemorate the launch of Pokemon: Let's Go. First, you'll be able to collect new Field Research tasks focusing on Gen 1 Pokemon at PokeStops from now until November 27. Niantic says these tasks feature monsters "not commonly found" in either of the Let's Go games, such as Kabuto and Omanyte, giving you a good incentive to catch and transfer them over.
On top of that, new Raid Battles are slated to arrive in Go from November 23-26. During this time frame, you'll be able to encounter certain Eevee evolutions--Flareon, Jolteon, Vaporeon, Espeon, and Umbreon--as Raid Bosses. Raichu and Alolan Raichu will appear as Raid Bosses more commonly during this period as well.
With Black Friday almost here, it's no surprise we're seeing lots of great deals on video games. But what is surprising is how much you can save on games that came out just a month or two ago. If the PS4 exclusive Spider-Man has been on your wishlist or gift list, now is the time to grab it, because it's on sale for a great price at several retailers right now, and you're not likely to find it cheaper anytime soon.
Spider-Man launched on September 7 exclusively for PlayStation 4. Made by veteran PlayStation developer Insomniac Games, the company behind the Ratchet & Clank series, it has received almost universally high marks from critics and players alike.
GameSpot scored Spider-Man 9/10, with Edmond Tran writing, "The feeling of embodying Spidey and using his abilities is astonishing, and the time spent on exploring its major characters help make its story feel heartfelt, despite superhero bombast. There have been open-world Spider-Man games before, but none so riveting and full of personality, none that explore and do justice to this many facets of the universe. Insomniac has created a superior Spider-Man experience that leaves a lasting impression, one that has you longing for just one more swing around New York City, even after the credits roll." You can read more in our Spider-Man PS4 review.
The post-release content for Spider-Man includes three DLC episodes. Two are available now, and the final episode is due out in December.
Though Black Friday 2018 doesn't officially start until November 23, we've rounded up some major deals for people to take advantage of. Coming off the heels of the recent launch of Fallout 76, the series' first attempt at an online game, several retailers have already put the PC, PS4, and Xbox One releases up for discount just in time for Black Friday.
As of this time, Best Buy, GameStop, and Walmart will have the game up for sale during Black Friday. While these deals aren't currently active, you'll be able to plan ahead by keeping track of which retailers have the kind of deals you want. For instance, Best Buy will have all three versions of Fallout 76 up for Black Friday with some special bundles. Though both the PS4 and Xbox One releases will be still be normal retail price at $60, they'll come packed with a special Vault Boy keychain. While the PC release will be bundled with a Blackout Yeti mic for $100. GameStop has both standard console versions for $40, with the special Tricentennial release at $60 (down from its original $80 price). Walmart will also have the game up for sale, discounting their retailer-exclusive steelbook edition for $60.
Fallout 76 is a bit different compared to Bethesda's previous efforts with Fallout 3 and 4. As an online survival game, you'll focus more on surviving the elements while also staying a few steps ahead of other enemies and rival players while exploring the expansive map of Appalachia. Instead of a traditional Fallout narrative, with your choices and decisions will leaving drastic consequences on the state of the world and all the characters in it, 76 places more of an emphasis on the moment-to-moment plot with your character simply trying to survive in the irradiated wilderness of West Virginia.
Though our final review isn't up yet, editor Edmond Tran offered up some early impressions with the game so far: "Fallout 76 attempts to pull off some significantly new ideas for the series, but with few exceptions, they notably diminish many aspects of the game. Multiplayer is fun, but it's not an ideal way to enjoy questing, and the shooting mechanics aren't strong enough to make combat-heavy activities enjoyable for long periods. Things feel better as a solo experience, but the lack of in-universe characters makes becoming emotionally invested in the world and your goals difficult."
Black Friday 2018 will kick into high-gear later this week. Again, many of these deals aren't active just yet, so be sure to keep tabs on the deals that interest you the most. In addition to Fallout 76, Fallout 4: Game of the Year Edition, God of War, and Black Ops 4 will also be on discount for this week. For more info on Black Friday 2018, be sure to check out our other highlights and roundup of other deals on GameSpot.
Those in the market for a PlayStation 4 are in luck: Black Friday week is officially here and it's brought with it a pretty nice bundle. Alongside early deals from places like Best Buy (for My Best Buy members), retailers have taken certain deals online early, including those on PS Plus and PS4. If you're interested in a PS4, that means you don't have to wait or deal with the lines on Black Friday--you can get a $200 PS4 with a bonus game right now.
Sony's official Black Friday promotions on PS4 essentially lays out what the early ads and deals from stores are offering. When it comes to PS4 itself, the big deal is a $200 bundle including a 1 TB console and a copy of Marvel's Spider-Man. You'll find an identical sale at Best Buy, Walmart, and a number of other retailers, and they're all live right now--even Target, which labeled this as a doorbuster in its ad.
You could argue that $200 would be a nice price for the system alone, but to get a $60 game that was just released in September makes it even sweeter. Unfortunately, those looking for a PS4 Pro have far fewer options; there is a $405 Spider-Man bundle on Ebay as of this writing, but little beyond that.
If you're waiting for other deals, many stores will actually open on Thanksgiving Day, and as noted above, Best Buy early access has already begun. We're sure to see more deals pop up for PS4, and we'll continue to update this post as they emerge.
On the games side, we've already seen confirmed discounts for some of PS4's biggest games of the year, including God of War, NBA 2K19, and Call of Duty: Black Ops 4. We'll be hunting for deals all month long, so be sure to check back with us as more Black Friday ads are revealed, and check out our roundup of PS4 deals.
There are plenty of games going on sale for Black Friday this week, and surprisingly that includes the recently released Red Dead Redemption 2. Rockstar's latest title is being discounted at a few select retailers, as well as on online stores, although it's primarily the more expensive editions of the game seeing a price cut.
All the current RDR2 Black Friday deals are outlined below. We will continue to add to the list as new discounts are announced. Be sure to stay on top of when specific retailers--like Best Buy and Walmart--open and close their doors for Black Friday so you can plan accordingly.
For now, the best Black Friday Red Dead Redemption 2 deals are available through the Xbox Store and PlayStation Store. The normally $80 Special Edition is being lowered to around $70 for Black Friday. The Special Edition comes with the base game, as well as a bank robbery mission and gang hideout, Dappled Black Thoroughbred horse, talisman and medallion in-game bonuses, boosts, cash discounts, the Nuevo Paraiso Gunslinger outfit, and several free weapons. The even more expensive Ultimate edition drops to $90 on both platforms. As of this writing, you'll need an Xbox Live Gold membership to take advantage of the Xbox pricing.
Physical retailers are selling the game at full price but with a bonus item. At Best Buy, the Black Friday deal comes with RDR2 and a special collapsible cup. At Walmart, the Black Friday deal is for the store's exclusive steelbook edition. Ebay has also announced it will have a bundle with the Xbox One version of the game and Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 for $70.
In our Red Dead Redemption 2 review, Kallie Plagge gave the game a 9/10, writing, "Red Dead Redemption 2 is an excellent prequel, but it's also an emotional, thought-provoking story in its own right, and it's a world that is hard to leave when it's done."
Red Dead Redemption 2 is only available for Xbox One and PS4.
Black Friday craziness is almost upon us. Just a little while longer and you'll be happily shopping for bargains, grabbing TVs off strangers and elbowing your way to the checkout. Fortunately, a number of early Black Friday deals have gone live online, so you can get all the satisfaction of saving money from the comfort of your own living room. With that in mind, let's see what FIFA 19 deals are going right now in the UK.
Specialist retailer Game seems the obvious place to start, and the chain is selling the standard edition of FIFA 19 on PS4 and Xbox One for £40, while the Switch version is £35. Amazon UK, meanwhile, is currently selling the game for £34 on PS4/Xbox One/PC and just £29 on Switch.
If you're looking for in-store offers, Smyths lets you pick up your online order from any of its high street shops for no extra cost. The toy retailer lists FIFA 19 at £38 on PS4/Xbox One and £30 on Switch. Supermarket Asda is another bricks-and-mortar option, and it's selling EA's football phenomenon for £34 on PS4/Xbox One and £29 on Switch. You can also pick up the Champions Edition--which comes with a selection of FUT packs and items--for £52 or £44 on those consoles, respectively.
Finally, let's look at download options. The PlayStation Store's Black Friday sale has the PS4 version discounted to £34.19, while the Champions Edition is still full price at £80. Microsoft's Xbox Store, meanwhile, lists the standard edition for £42, or £36 for Xbox Live Gold members. The Champions Edition and Ultimate Edition (which comes with even more FUT packs) are still full price unless you're a Gold subscriber, in which case they'll set you back £48 or £54, respectively.
On PC, EA's Origin Store is discounting digital versions of FIFA 19 by 40%, meaning the standard, Champions, or Ultimate Editions can be bought for £33, £42, or £48, respectively. Finally, Nintendo's eShop is not offering any kind of promotion on FIFA 19, so you're stuck with the full-fat £55 price tag there.
Take a look at all the FIFA 19 deals for Black Friday UK below, or check out our coverage of Game or Amazon UK's Black Friday sales. You can also check out our FIFA 19 review if you want to know whether the game is worth picking up.
