One of the biggest changes added to Fortnite in Season 6 is the introduction of a new consumable called Shadow Stones. Using one allows you to transform into your Shadow Form, which gifts you with a couple of supernatural powers. [Update: Not long after they were added, Epic pulled Shadow Stones from the game entirely due to an unspecified bug. They were then re-introduced but have since been pulled again. There's no word on when they will return.]
In Shadow Form, you won't be able to use weapons, but whenever you stand still, you'll go completely invisible. You'll still be slightly visible whenever you move in Shadow Form, and walking around leaves behind a Shadow Trail that people can easily follow. Running around isn't all that bad though, as you'll have increased movement speed and jump height, and you won't take fall damage.
The true fun comes in your other supernatural ability, Phase. Using Phase propels in whichever direction you're facing. If there's something in your way, like a rock or a wall, you'll pass right through it. With Phase, you'll be able to easily escape anyone who discovers your Shadow Trail, or scare someone with your ghostly apparition in an ambush.
Shadow Form only lasts up to 45 seconds--and can be ended early by holding down the Alt Fire button--so you'll have to figure out when's the best time to use a Shadow Stone after you've found one. Shadow Stones randomly spawn around the map, but can usually be discovered in corrupted areas.
Fortnite Season 6 also puts Impulse Grenade, Suppressed Submachine Gun, Light Machine Gun, Bouncer, and Remote Explosives into the Vault. Grapplers have been updated so that connecting to a moving object incorporates its momentum into your launch force, and the charge for Grapplers has been reduced from 15 to 10.
Fortnite is available for Xbox One, PS4, PC, Nintendo Switch, Android, and iOS.
Epic kicked off Season 6 of its popular battle royale game, Fortnite, but as is to be expected with an update of this scale, things haven't gone completely smoothly. A number of issues have cropped up following the release of the game's 6.0 update, including one that rendered it pretty much unplayable on Xbox One. That has since been resolved, but another bug has been found, this one relating to Shadow Stones, one of the new items Epic introduced to the game this week. [Update: The issue with Shadow Stones was resolved and were re-added, but Epic has had to temporarily disable another item, the Port-a-Fortress, due to a separate problem. Since then, Shadow Stones have again had to be pulled, and they remain unavailable.]
On Twitter, the developer announced that an issue has been discovered with the new consumable items. As a result, Epic has temporarily disabled the stones until it can roll out a fix. The studio didn't provide an estimate as to how long that would take, so it's unclear when players can expect the stones to return to the game.
Epic didn't elaborate what the issue relating to the Shadow Stones was, but it appears players have discovered an exploit that allows them to shoot their weapons while being invisible. Normally, when you consume a Shadow Stone, you'll turn into Shadow Form, which allows you to appear invisible to other players when standing still, but at the expense of being able to use your weapon.
The Shadow Stone isn't the only item Epic has removed from Fortnite; the developer also vaulted a handful of weapons with the start of Season 6. The Impulse Grenade, Suppressed Submachine Gun, Light Machine Gun, Bouncer, and the Remote Explosive are all no longer available in Battle Royale, although players can still find them in the sandbox-style Playground mode. The developer also made tweaks to several other weapons, including the recently added Grappler.
With Season 6 now underway, players can purchase another Battle Pass to level up and, in turn, unlock rewards, such as Pets, a new type of cosmetic item Epic introduced this season. You can see all of the new skins and cosmetics in our Season 6 rewards gallery. If you need help unlocking them, you can also find guides on how to complete Fortnite's latest challenges in our Season 6 challenge roundup.
Halloween Terror is returning to Overwatch for the third year in a row. Blizzard is still keeping the exact details about this year's Halloween-themed event under wraps, but the developer has provided a hint in the form of a cryptic riddle.
This year's Halloween Terror starts on October 9 and continues through to October 31. Once the event ends, you'll have to wait until 2019 to unlock Overwatch's Halloween-themed content. The only clue we have as to what this year's Halloween Terror will include and where Junkenstein's Revenge's story will go next is a poem and short cinematic included in one of Overwatch's tweets.
There's a rumor among explorers About a monolithic lair Home to terrifying horrors Heroes, how will you prepare? pic.twitter.com/XK7W7e0SKA
Every year, Halloween Terror offers new Legendary skins for players to unlock--each priced at 3000 credits--that feature Overwatch's heroes dressed up in costumes, such as Dragon Symmetra. Skins from previous Halloween Terror events are also offered at a discounted price. Several of the maps receive Halloween-themed updates as well, becoming decorated with spider webs and jack-o-lanterns.
Halloween Terror also lets players participate in Junkenstein's Revenge, a PvE mode where four adventurers assemble to stop the combined forces of Dr. Junkenstein and the Witch of the Wilds--alternate reality versions of Junkrat and Mercy--from taking over the fictional kingdom of Adlersbrunn. In 2016, you and three others played as The Alchemist (Ana), the Gunslinger (McCree), the Archer (Hanzo), and the Soldier (Solder 76). In 2017, the story continued and added The Countess (Widowmaker), the Swordsman (Genji), the Monk (Zenyatta), and the Viking (Torbjorn).
Fortnite: Battle Royale Season 6 has finally been released and, alongside it, developer Epic Games rolled out patch 6.00 for the game. The arrival of a new season means there's new Battle Pass content to unlock, as well as some changes to the game world's map and how you play the wildly popular battle royale title. To give us a complete breakdown of everything new or changing with the latest update, Epic has released the Fortnite 6.0 patch notes, which you can read below.
The headliner is the new Battle Pass, which delivers 100 levels and over 100 new rewards, according to Epic. It is available to purchase in-game for 950 V-Bucks. You can also choose to just stick to the free Battle Pass, but some challenges and reward are exclusive to the paid tier. The other big new addition is Pets, which allow you to adventure around the island with an adorable friend by your side. Beyond those new additions, Epic has also introduced a consumable called Shadow Stones and updated the map with new locations such as the Floating Island, Corn Fields, and Haunted Castle. [Update: Shadow Stones have been removed from the game temporarily due to an issue.]
In terms of weapons, the Impulse Grenade, Suppressed Submachine Gun, Light Machine Gun, Bouncer, and Remote Explosives have all been thrown into the Vault. However, all of the weapons and items added to the Vault as part of patch v6.0 are available to use in Playgrounds for now. Take a look at the full patch notes below to see what else is going on with the battle royale mode. You can find details on how patch 6.0 impacts the Save The World mode here.

In related news, Sony surprised everyone by announcing that PS4 cross-play is finally happening. For select third-party games, players on PS4 will be able to connect with people on other platforms. Fortnite happens to be one of these games, and a beta for cross-play is available now. Fortnite will allow for "gameplay, progression, and commerce" across PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PC, Nintendo Switch, Mac, Android, iOS.
"We recognize that PS4 players have been eagerly awaiting an update, and we appreciate the community's continued patience as we have navigated through this issue to find a solution," John Kodera, president of Sony Interactive Entertainment, previously said. "We see the beta as an opportunity to conduct thorough testing that ensures cross-platform play is best on PlayStation, while being mindful about the user experience from both a technical and social perspective."
When Insidious: The Last Key hit theaters back in January, many believed this to be the final chapter of the horror franchise. It essentially told the origin story of Elisa Rainier (Lin Shaye), something fans of the franchise had been hoping for.
Could there be more story to tell from the Insidious lore, though? While another sequel to the series hasn't been announced, producer Jason Blum admits a return is possible. While speaking to GameSpot to promote the new Halloween, he admitted "there's a very good chance" another Insidious movie will happen at some point.
"What was our tagline on [The Last Key]? Do you remember? The Final Chapter or something," he said. "I'm trying to fight it, I haven't fought it successfully yet, but like I said I think there's a good chance."
Of course, should another Insidious movie happen, there are some questions to ask. Would Leigh Whannell--writer of all four films, director of Insidious: Chapter 3--be involved? Who would take over as director? How much of the franchise's cast would return?
Outside of Shaye's Rainier, the only characters to appear in all four films are Tucker (Angus Sampson) and Specs (Whannell). Surely someone from that trio would have to appear, if only to keep the continuity alive.
Whatever the case, without being announced yet, chances are it'll be some time before another Insidious film comes to pass. As it stands, Blumhouse--the production company behind the franchise--has sequels to Happy Death Day and The Gallows in the works, along with a list of other horror films--including Jordan Peele's next movie Us and M. Night Shyamalan's Glass.
For fans of the franchise, though, Blum saying there's a "good chance" of getting another Insidious movie is great news. Now you just need to wait patiently for it to hopefully happen.
Bethesda recently released a new trailer and confirmed the release date of the upcoming Fallout 76 beta. As we previously heard, it'll come to Xbox One before other platforms, but now we know exactly when--the beta begins for Xbox One on October 23 and on October 30 for PlayStation 4 and PC.
In an FAQ for the beta, Bethesda stressed that its purpose is to "stress test and break the game," which means that servers will be "online during targeted timeframes so we can get as many people as possible playing at the same time." Although specific times have not yet been confirmed, the company said the play sessions could last anywhere between four and eight hours. Overall, the beta will go on until a few days before launch.
Bethesda also said that players should expect things to go awry, as beta versions of games tend to do. "The [beta] is a work-in-progress version of the game," it explained. "During the [beta], you will likely see a glorious array of issues; many we know about, and many we don't. Our goal, with your help, is to identify and fix any issues that arise in preparation for the November 14 launch. We need all your suggestions and feedback during [beta], at launch, and beyond to make Fallout 76 the best experience possible, now and for years to come."
To play the beta on PS4 and Xbox One you'll need a PlayStation Plus or Xbox Live Gold membership. Since Fallout 76 is an online title, the final game will also require these subscriptions. The only way to get access to the beta is to pre-order the game at participating retailers or directly from Bethesda.
The beta will weigh in at 45 GB and is not available to pre-load. PC players will not need to re-download the game when it is officially released, but those on console will need to download a launch version. Currently, Bethesda is planning for progress from the beta to carry over to the full game."
Fallout 76 launches in full on November 14 for PS4, Xbox One, and PC. On PC, the game will only be available through Bethesda's own launcher, not Steam. On September 26 Sony announced cross-play functionality is being introduce for certain third-party titles, including Fortnite. However, Fallout 76 is not included among these titles yet.
Bethesda marketing boss Pete Hines said on Twitter: "I work with a lot of devs and games for whom this is important going forward. Fallout 76 does not support cross-play, for a number of reasons. I have no idea if it ever will. But I assure you it is not on our radar right now as we focus on [beta] and launch."
Bethesda has also released the opening video from Fallout 76, which you can watch here or above.

This is the final warning for PlayStation Plus members who haven't picked up their free PS4, PS3, and PS Vita games for September. Starting October 2, September's freebies go away and will be replaced by the free PS Plus games for October. So hop over to the PlayStation Store to get your free games while you still can.
The biggest freebie is Destiny 2, the massive shared-world shooter that puts the loot grind front and center once you beat the campaign. Thankfully, you'll find plenty of things to do on your quest for new guns and armor. This is just the core game, so it doesn't include Forsaken, the big year-two expansion, but it offers more than enough content to help you decide if you want to buy in.

The latest trailer for Red Dead Redemption 2 shows off the newly expanded Deadeye system, which comes with some added bells and whistles for outlaws looking to cause trouble.
As opposed to Deadeye in the classic Red Dead Redemption, this new one progresses in stages and lets you access a few different kinds of functions. You can use it to slow time and aim your shots carefully, or you can paint targets to have Arthur automatically squeeze off shots. You can even see critical or weak points on enemies, as evidenced by an X-ray effect. This will come in handy when fighting off human enemies, but the trailer also shows Arthur shooting down a stage coach by targeting an explosive piece.
The same trailer showed off the wide variety of criminal activities you can take part in, from loansharking to good old-fashioned robbery. Following a kickoff marked by hands-on time, Rockstar is now releasing new information on Red Dead Redemption 2 at a steady clip now approaching its release on October 26. Its multiplayer mode, Red Dead Online, will launch approximately a month after the main game, but it will be in beta and Rockstar expects some kinks to work out.
For more on Red Dead Redemption, check out our pre-order guide. If you want to spring for console to go along with it, Sony is offering a special PlayStation 4 bundle that essentially includes the standard version for free--all 105 gigs of it.
Pokemon fans will soon have a chance to get their hands on October's free Legendary Pokemon for Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon, but those aren't the only rare monsters up for grabs this month. To commemorate the release of the upcoming Lost Thunder expansion for Pokemon TCG, The Pokemon Company is also giving away a rare Mythical Pokemon for the 3DS games this month: the Thunderclap Pokemon Zeraora.
First revealed this past April, Zeraora is a fast, cat-like Electric-type monster debuting in the latest Pokemon movie, The Power of Us. This marks the first opportunity players will have to get their hands on one; like other Mythical Pokemon, Zeraora isn't obtainable within the actual games, so you'll want to add one to your collection while you can.
As usual, the way you'll be able to get Zeraora depends on where you live. In the US, players can pick up a download code for the Mythical Pokemon at GameStop stores from October 19 to November 19; in the UK, The Pokemon Company is distributing codes for Zeraora at Game stores from October 1 to November 15.
Unlike most of the other free Pokemon given out this year, you can only redeem the Zeraora code in either Ultra Sun or Ultra Moon. Regardless of which version you claim it in, the Pokemon comes at level 50 and is equipped with an Air Balloon, an item that negates Ground-type attacks until it is popped. It also knows the moves Plasma Fist, Thunder Punch, Close Combat, and Thunder.
To redeem your download code, first select Mystery Gift from the games' main menu, then choose the option to receive your gift via a code/password. Input your code and Zeraora will be downloaded into your game. You'll then need to pick it up from the deliveryman waiting inside any Pokemon Center.
In addition to Zeraora, The Pokemon Company will give away two Legendary Pokemon originally from the Black and White versions this month: Reshiram and Zekrom. More details on that distribution will be announced soon. In the meantime, you can see all the free Pokemon for Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon available right now.
Jeremy Saulnier has been quietly establishing himself as one of the most talented independent filmmakers for several years now. His witty horror comedy debut Murder Party was followed by 2013's intense revenge thriller Blue Ruin, which demonstrated his skill at combining a dark and compelling character drama with often upsetting violence. The stakes were raised even higher by 2015's brilliant, savage punk rock siege movie Green Room, and while some fans were disappointed that he ultimately dropped out of helming all of True Detective Season 3, the bleak, ambitious Netflix movie Hold the Dark will further his reputation.
The film is based on William Giraldi's 2014 novel, with a screenplay by Saulnier's regular collaborator Macon Blair. It's set in the small town of Keelut, deep in the Alaskan wilderness, where young mother Medora Slone (Riley Keough) is coming to terms with the the abduction of her child by a pack of wolves. This is the latest in a series of wolf attacks on the town's children, so she contacts renowned wolf expert and writer Russell Core (Westworld's Jeffrey Wright) to track and kill the animal that took her child. Meanwhile, her husband Vernon (a terrifying Alexander Skarsgård) is serving in Iraq, but an injury sends him home, where a dark, bloody reckoning over the death of his son is inevitable.
Saulnier is a master at establishing mood. From the the moment Core arrives in Keelut, we know something is very wrong--something unspoken--and that things are not what they seem. The sparse script and Keough and Wright's underplayed performances add to the unease. These are people who are clearly not used to talking much, and the long silences that accompany their initial encounters deftly create the sense that something very bad is about to happen. Core sets out into the wilderness to track the wolves, but it's what he discovers when he returns after that first day that really kickstarts the plot.
While both Blue Ruin and Green Room were small scale, claustrophobic thrillers that used limited casts and locations to tell simple stories, Hold the Dark is a far bigger, more ambitious project. The arrival of Vernon around the 30 minute mark quickly expands what initially seemed like a simple movie. The cast widens to include the superstitious locals and the neighboring police force, and Saulnier takes us beyond the boundaries of Keelut to explore this entire region. The stunning cinematography and droning music help create an environment that is unforgiving and almost otherworldly. And while nothing actually supernatural happens, at times Hold the Dark feels like a horror movie, as Medora tells Core about the terrifying darkness that lurks in the wilderness and the local people talk of possession by wolves.
Saulnier refrains from explaining too much and the movie is steeped in ambiguity; because of the sparse dialogue we are often left to try work out the character motivations through their actions rather than words. In the case of Vernon, a terrifying, vengeful father who can only express himself through violence, this is not always easy. There are hidden, unspoken secrets that are hinted at but never fully expanded on, and the ending is far from the tidy resolution expected from a more conventional thriller.
That's not to say Hold the Dark is always a slow-paced, open-ended mystery. Saulnier might like his narrative ambiguity, but he also loves to deliver visceral action. Fans of his previous movies won't be surprised to learn that this new one contains some of the most shocking scenes of violence you'll see this year; Saulnier never revels in the gore and much of it is quickly cut, but the sudden, random way that the most brutal violence erupts keeps things tense throughout. Most notably, there is a harrowing, brilliantly-directed shoot-out sequence in the middle of the movie, in which a team of inexperienced cops are pinned down by an adversary with a machine gun.
Hold the Dark is a mysterious, uncompromising movie that won't be for everyone. It's very dark--there is little humor, and with the exception of Jame Badge Dale's police chief Donald, the bleak tone keeps us from feeling much sympathy for even the "good guys," let alone Skarsgård's psychotic Vernon and his accomplices. The violence is strong and the movie leaves as many questions as it starts with. But for those who like their thrillers to provoke and challenge as well as thrill, it's an impressive achievement that won't be quickly forgotten.
It's a brand-new month, and those signed up for Amazon Prime will get a whole new batch of movies and TV series to watch starting on Monday, October 1. Additionally, one of Amazon's biggest original series returns for a new season.
Those looking for TV series to watch for the first time or binge all over again have quite a few choices on October 1. Both seasons of the Edgar Wright comedy Spaced will be available to stream. The series follows flatmates Tim (Simon Pegg) and Daisy (Jessica Hynes), two twenty-somethings living together in London. If you're a fan of Shaun of the Dead, this is a must-watch series. Also, every season of the classic sitcom Growing Pains is coming to Amazon for those looking for a nostalgia trip.
There are a ton of movies coming to the service as well on the first of the month, including the sci-fi/action movie Starship Troopers, which surprisingly still holds up. If you're looking for something a bit more scary--since Halloween is right around the corner--you will want to check out [REC] 4, Candyman, Child's Play, Flatliners, and of course, Nightbreed, which is one of the most underrated horror films of the '90s.
Finally, the hit Amazon series The Man in the High Castle comes back for a third season. The series is based on a Phillip K Dick novel from 1962 where the Allies lost World War II. Originally, this season was supposed to come to Amazon sometime in 2017.

It's October, in case you hadn't heard, which means Twitch is giving away a new selection of PC games for free for anyone with an Amazon Prime account. This is a particularly great month for anyone who's into horror and creepy games in general, because that's the theme for this month's games. This is the month of Halloween, after all.
The games in question are fairly well known, headlined by Darksiders: Warmastered Edition. In it, you play as War, one of the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse, who sets out to fight back the forces of hell after the cataclysmic event gets triggered prematurely. If you can get past the title, you'll find a fine action game that mixes combat inspired by God of War with the types of elaborate puzzles you'd find in a Zelda game. With Darksiders 3 launching November 27, now is a great time to play this one.
Next up is Soma, a fittingly chilling addition to this month's freebies in which you must make it through an underwater research facility and learn what's going on there while being hunted. Then comes the point-and-click horror game Sanitarium, followed by the genre-defining action/adventure game System Shock.
To collect your free games, just head over to Twitch on a computer and click the crown-shaped icon at the top of the page. That opens a dropdown menu with a list of all the freebies you're eligible for. Click the button under each game to add it to your account, then go to the "My Games" section of the Twitch desktop app to install it.
Rockstar released the latest trailer for Red Dead Redemption 2 this morning, and as promised, it detailed a lot more of the variety activities you can take on while you explore the Old West. The narration notes that Arthur can take on "a wide array of nefarious activities with his gang members."
As seen in the trailer, you can plan a large-scale heist, rob a train, a coach, or even just an individual on a walk. You can also hold up a store, burgle a house, or go into loansharking. At one point we get a glimpse of how the gang element may work as Arthur pursues enemies through a house and then has an apparent ally enter through another other door to help.
You can also explore the countryside, which is said to be controlled by several different gangs. And when you commit crimes, lawmen will be on your tail. Eventually you might attract the attention of bounty hunters who will aim to track you down and collect the price on your head.
If you're only slightly evil and prefer to only inflict the townsfolk with minor inconveniences, you can just refuse to take a bath. The trailer implies this will imbue you with a powerful stink that will offend the sensibilities of the people you meet.
We recently had hands-on with Red Dead Redemption 2, and discussed it in-depth in our preview video. Rockstar is still slowly outlining more details, like the hunting and fishing mechanics. RDR2 will launch as a single-player only game, and then the Red Dead Online will come as a beta roughly a month later. The game launches October 26 for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. Check out our Red Dead Redemption pre-order guide for more details.
Fortnite Season 6 has begun, which means it's time for a fresh start with a whole new Battle Pass. As with the previous season, we'll be here every week to give you an in-depth breakdown of all the newest challenges, the rewards you'll get for completing them, and guides for getting them done as quickly and easily as possible. For those new to this, here's a quick overview of how everything works: By completing weekly challenges you'll earn Battle Stars that level up your Battle Pass and unlock certain rewards. However, challenges are split into two tiers, with some only available to those that have spent 950 V-Bucks in-game on a paid Battle Pass.
For the first week of Season 6 there's a nice selection of challenges available in both the free and paid tier. In the former, you'll need to grab a Legendary Item in three different matches, use a Cozy Campfire to restore 150 points of health, and begin a multi-stage quest by searching three chests. Once those three have been searched, more stages will open up.
In the paid tier, meanwhile, you'll need to apply 500 points of shield, land at Junk Junction to kick off another multi-stage quest, dance under seven Streetlight Spotlights, and eliminate an opponent in five different named locations. If you manage to complete any four of these challenges you'll earn 5K XP.
Of all the challenges the one that'll require you to put in the most time is likely to be the one that asks you to dance under seven different Streetlight Spotlights. Unfortunately, there's no easy way to get this done, as you'll simply have to trek around the Island and keep your eyes open for the spotlights. Thankfully, there's visually distinct, so that should make things a bit easier. What you're looking for is a streetlight that has a speaker on them, which will be playing music. Once you've located one, stand directly beneath it and bust a move. Then it's off to find the next one.
We've put together a map of all the Streetlight Spotlights we've found, so you can take a look at it below and head to the locations to speed the process up. We've also recorded ourselves completing the challenge, so you can watch us do the challenge in the video above above and follow along. It's worth noting that there's more than seven Streetlight Spotlights, the ones in the map and videos are just the ones we've spotted.

Alongside the start of Season 6, developer Epic Games has released Fortnite update 6.0, introducing Pets, throwing some items and weapons into the Vault, making tweaks to the map, and adding in new consumables. The fall 2018 anime season has officially begun. Starting October 1, a bunch of new series and movies will begin airing on Netflix, Amazon, Crunchyroll, Funimation, and HiDive. With all the new anime, we've outlined what we think you need to add to your watch list.
Bloom Into You is a must watch. This love story between two high school girls also addresses the pressures of living with low self-worth and the struggles of understanding asexual love. Despite the heaviness of the story's drama, there are both brief snippets of hilarity and quiet moments of internal resilience that draw you into the changing dynamic between the second-year student council president who can't escape her dead sister's shadow and the young first-year who dreams of falling in love but doesn't feel the emotions that love stories say a young girl should. Bloom Into You is debuting exclusively on HiDive (in both Japanese and English dub) and premiers on October 5. This fall, HiDive is also airing episodes of the English dub of Princess Principal, one of the best anime from 2017.
You should also add Crunchyroll's Goblin Slayer to your queue--especially if you're a fan of Dark Souls. Goblin Slayer is a dark fantasy about an inexperienced priestess, called Priestess, who's saved by a male adventurer named Goblin Slayer after her entire party is gruesomely butchered in front of her. Goblin Slayer is a bloody story that repeatedly offers up scenes where its characters are left with eyes full of despair, but the show is not without its charm. The series begins airing on October 6.
Other anime to look out for are That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime and SSSS Gridman. The former launches on October 1, with the original Japanese version on Crunchyroll and the English dub on Funimation. The latter comes out on Funimation on October 6. Slime is an isekai--a story where a normal person is transported to another world--that's about pretty much exactly what the name implies, and Studio Trigger's Gridman is an anime remake of Gridman the Hyper Agent, a series about three kids creating a video game superhero. Golden Kamuy and Netflix's Castlevania also return with second seasons this fall, the former on October 8 and the latter on October 26.
The full list of anime series and movies that have been confirmed to premier this fall on Amazon, Crunchyroll, Funimation, HiDive, and Netflix are listed below. We'll update the list if additional titles are announced.

It's the first week of October, and the streaming service giant Netflix is dropping quite a bit of content this week. From movies, to original series, to TV series, to stand-up specials, and more, if you're looking for something new to watch, there is a ton to choose from this week.
Kicking things off on Monday, October 1 are 30 new additions, including the 1984 classic fantasy/adventure The NeverEnding Story. Follow the story of Bastian, as he steps into a fantasy world and rides around on a Luck Dragon, which is dragon that looks suspiciously like a dog. Other movies on October 1 to check out are Billy Madison, Black Dynamite, and Empire Records.
Also, you can check out Season 4 of Fox's Gotham. There is a really fantastic arc during that year featuring Jerome, who is pretty much the Joker. You'll have 22 episodes to get through, so make sure you have a comfortable seat. There is only one other TV series hitting Netflix this week, and that's the webseries Little Things, which is about the life of a young couple. It comes to the service on October 6.
As for Netflix originals, there are plenty to choose from, including Season 2 of the animated comedy Big Mouth, Little Things Season 2, and the movie Malevolent. Oh, Gambit. You're the little movie that could but with every new update, seemingly won't. There's been some juggling of release dates from Fox's film division, which sees Dark Phoenix, the next X-Men film, delayed by a few months. Instead of arriving in February, it's now taking up residence on June 7--a slot formerly occupied by Gambit--according to Deadline. That leaves Gambit knocked back nearly a year to March 13, 2020.
The Gambit movie has been a fascinating thing to watch. One minute, it'll seem like production is ramping up to begin. While in the next, it looks near death. In recent years, it's cycled through the hands of a number of potential directors, from Rise of the Planet of the Apes helmer Rupert Wyatt, to Pirates of the Caribbean vet Gore Verbinski. Through it all, though, Channing Tatum still seems set on starring as the X-Men character.
With all of the behind-the-scenes changes, Gambit has seen a few release dates over the past couple years. It's most recent date of June 7, 2019, might have seemed like wishful thinking, though. After all, the end of 2018 is closing in fast and filming has yet to commence. In fact, there's not even an officially announced director at this point.
So it should come as no surprise that not only is Gambit getting delayed again. Of course, with the upcoming sale of Fox's film division to Disney, there's no telling whether this particular release date will become a reality or if we'll ever see a Gambit movie.
One thing is for sure, though. Producer Simon Kinberg--who also wrote and directed Dark Phoenix--still wants it to happen. In an interview with IGN, Kinberg said, "When you look at Gambit, he's a hustler and a womanizer and we just felt like there was an attitude, a swagger to him, that lent itself to romantic comedy."
Of course, that doesn't mean you should be expecting something along the lines of When Gambit Met Sally. Instead, he claims it's still very much a superhero movie, just with a specific tone to it. "You know, when I say romantic comedy, I use that term loosely, in the same term that I use the term western for Logan loosely," he said, "It's not like they're gunslingers at high noon in Logan. It's just a vibe."
If Gambit is the rom-com to Logan's western, that's a movie we want to see. Whether we'll actually ever get to see it is another story entirely, but don't give up hope just yet! In the meantime, get ready for a PG-13 edit of Deadpool 2.
Well, this is awkward. Two days after the first trailer for Dark Phoenix, the next X-Men movie, was released, Fox is now delaying the film. As stated in the trailer, Dark Phoenix was originally set to open in theaters on February 14, 2019. It would have been the perfect Valentine's Day date movie for you and your favorite mutant, but now you're out of luck.
According to Deadline, Dark Phoenix will now hit theaters on June 7, 2019. That will make it a summer release, but the move is still very odd given how it's only been two days since a trailer arrived. However, as Deadline points out, not only could a summer release mean a much bigger box office take for Dark Phoenix, but the trailer's success in China--44 million views in 24 hours--could lead to it being a much larger hit in the country. It will now be opening against The Secret Life of Pets 2.
The move to June 7 also necessitated another release change for Fox. Gambit, which has had no end of issues actually getting made, originally occupied the slot. It's now been bumped to 2020. Then again, who knows what the odds are that movie actually beginning production anytime soon.
One other release date change by Fox sees Alita, the adaptation of Alita: Battle Angel, moving to Dark Phoenix's old February 14 release. It had originally been scheduled for December 21. Instead, Fox is believed to be releasing a PG-13 edit of Deadpool 2. That would be a very interesting move, given the upcoming sale of Fox to Disney, who owns Marvel. Perhaps this is how the studio will measure whether a toned down Deadpool movie could work. Of course, given that Marvel Studios boss Kevin Feige will likely take control of the X-Men properties once the sale to Disney is complete, this could all change again in the coming months.
Thus far, there's been no change in the release date of New Mutants, the other X-Men movie coming in 2019. The horror film is still scheduled to be released on August 2, 2019.
Deadpool 2 was known for being a very hard R, but Fox appears prepared to put it out in theaters too with an age rating that's a little more inviting to mass audiences: PG-13. The movie is currently slated for December 21, currently listed as an untitled Deadpool movie.
Deadline reports that this mysterious title is Deadpool 2, given a few snips and clips to squeeze it into a size PG-13 dress. Star Ryan Reynolds, who has been heavily involved in bringing the comic character to life, tweeted out an image of Deadpool reading a story to Fred Savage a la The Princess Bride. This may be the framing device for a PG-13 Deadpool 2, as well as a way to extend the length and make up for cut scenes.
In GameSpot's Deadpool 2 review, Michael Rougeau said it worked in much the same way the original did, though it could have used more support from its surrounding cast like Josh Brolin and Zazie Beetz. "But Reynolds' Wade Wilson is just as charming as ever, in his own twisted way, and Deadpool 2 delivers the laughs, action, and gruesome maimings that fans want," he wrote.
Presumably a PG-13 rated version will have most of the same laughs and action, but slightly less gruesome maimings. Fox recently reached a deal with Disney, which could put all of the Fox-owned Marvel characters including Deadpool into the MCU. The report also included word that the X-Men movie Dark Phoenix is being pushed back to the summer, with Gambit being delayed even further.
For months, Sony had been the lone holdout when it came to allowing cross-play in Fortnite, but the company finally relented earlier this week and kicked off an "extended cross-play beta" for the hit battle royale game. If you've already made multiple Fortnite accounts in order to play on different consoles, Epic has now rolled out a tool that allows you to link all of your consoles to a single Epic Account.
First, the developer stresses that the following process will not transfer your existing purchases and progression from your account; rather, it will allow any future progression and purchases you make to carry across platforms. You will be able to combine all of your existing progression/purchases into one account when the developer releases an account merging tool this November.
Before you can link accounts, you'll first need to decide which platform will be your Primary console and which will be your Secondary. Epic recommends that you use the platform with the progression/purchases you value most as your Primary one, as you won't be able to access your Secondary console's purchases until the account merging tool launches.
Once you've determined a Primary console and a Secondary one, you'll need to follow the steps outlined on Epic's website in order to link them together. Both of your console accounts will need to have an Epic Account association; if either one doesn't, you'll need to create one. At the end of this step, you should have two separate Epic Accounts, one for each console. You'll also need to use a different email address for each account.
After that's done, you'll then need to unlink your Secondary console. Sign into Epic's website with your Secondary console account, click on the Account dropdown menu, then click on Connected Accounts and choose Disconnect. Be sure to keep the login information for your Secondary console account, however, as you'll need it to complete the account merging process in November.
Once you've clicked Unlink, log back in with your Primary console account, click on the Account dropdown menu, then click Connect on your Secondary console. Sign into that console when prompted, and your Primary and Secondary console accounts will be linked. You can find more details on how to complete the process here.
Season 6 of Fortnite is now underway, and it's made some pretty big changes to the battle royale game. In addition to a few new areas on the map, Epic has introduced a slew of new items, including Pets. You can see all of the game's new skins and cosmetics in our Season 6 rewards gallery. If you need help unlocking them, you can also find tips on how to complete Fortnite's latest challenges in our Season 6 challenge roundup.
Season 6 of Fortnite has finally arrived, which means players across all platforms--PS4, Xbox One, PC, Nintendo Switch, and mobile--have a slew of new cosmetics and other items to earn in Epic's popular battle royale game. Just as in previous seasons, Epic is rolling out a set of challenges every week throughout Season 6. Finishing these will help level up your Battle Pass, which in turn will unlock rewards. If you manage to clear all of the challenges in a given week, you'll also complete a Hunting Party challenge--this season's equivalent of the Road Trip challenges from Season 5.
Just as before, the reward for completing a Hunting Party challenge is a special loading screen, which features a subtle hint pointing to the location of a free Battle Star hidden somewhere around the island. If you complete one week's set of Season 6 challenges, you'll earn the loading screen below, which shows off a group of characters gathered in a farm.
The area depicted in the loading screen is located in the desert directly east of Paradise Palms, and if you peer closely enough, you can notice the faint silhouette of a Battle Star above the tractor in the background of the screen. Fly to the area at the start of the match, head to the lone tractor, and you'll find the Battle Star waiting to be collected. Pick it up and you'll level your Battle Pass up by one tier.
If you need a more visual guide on where to find the Battle Star, you can see the exact location of the farm on the map below. We've also put together a video of us collecting the Star above so you can see exactly where you need to go. However, as was the case with Season 5's Road Trip challenges, the Battle Star will only appear if you've completed the requisite challenges and unlocked the above loading screen; you won't be able to find it if you haven't done the necessary steps.
Epic kicked off Season 6 of Fortnite this week with the release of the game's 6.0 update on PS4, Xbox One, PC, Nintendo Switch, and mobile. As expected, the patch made some big changes to the battle royale game, introducing a handful of new weapons and locations to the map on top of an extensive list of cosmetics and rewards that can be unlocked with the Season 6 Battle Pass. However, players may notice that a few popular weapons are no longer available. [Update: The new Shadow Stones were also removed temporarily from Fortnite due to a bug, but that issue has since been resolved.]
As part of the 6.0 update, a handful of weapons have been moved to the "vault." This isn't unusual, as Epic periodically removes items from the game in order to further tweak them or make room for new ones, but this time, the developer has vaulted a larger-than-usual cache of weapons. Specifically, Epic has removed the Impulse Grenade, Suppressed Submachine Gun, Light Machine Gun, Bouncer, and the Remote Explosive.
This means that you'll no longer be able to come across any of the aforementioned weapons while playing Battle Royale. They may be reintroduced to the game at a later date; Epic has said that vaulted items could be re-added to the arsenal in a future update, but for the time being, you won't find any while scrounging around for loot. However, Epic notes that the weapons will still be available in Playground mode.
In their place, Epic has introduced one new consumable item to the game called Shadow Stones. These can transform you into Shadow Form for a brief period of time; in this form, you'll be unable to use any weapons, but you'll appear invisible to other players when you're stationary. Epic has also made tweaks to a handful of other weapons; namely, the Double Barrel Shotgun's damage output has been reduced, while the Grappler will now take into account momentum when you fire it at a moving object.
Epic has outlined all of the other changes the 6.0 update makes in the patch notes on its website. There are a lot of new cosmetics and other new items to get your hands on with the Season 6 Battle Pass, such as Pets. You can see everything in our Season 6 rewards gallery. You can also find guides on how to complete the latest challenges in our Season 6 challenge roundup.
After weeks of cryptic teases, Season 6 of Fortnite is finally underway on PS4, Xbox One, PC, Nintendo Switch, and mobile, and it has brought some big changes to the popular battle royale game. On top of new locations around the map--not to mention a slew of fresh skins and other cosmetics to get your hands on--Season 6 has introduced a new category of items we never knew we wanted: Pets.
Among the many new rewards you'll be able to unlock with the Season 6 Battle Pass are Pets, adorable companions who'll accompany you as you play. Much like Back Bling, these little guys are worn on your back. They don't have any practical uses--they're purely cosmetic, as with all Battle Pass rewards--but they look cute, and they'll react differently depending on what you're doing; leap a great distance, for example, and they'll hang on for dear life.
Three different kinds of Pets are available thus far, and they're available in multiple colors: Bonsey, a dog; Scales, a baby dragon; and Camo, a chameleon. You can see images of them, along with all of the other new cosmetics and skins you can get your hands this season, in our complete Season 6 Battle Pass rewards gallery.
In addition to the Pets, Epic has introduced a load of new skins in Season 6. Some of these, such as the DJ Yonder and Calamity outfits, we previously got a glimpse of in the teaser images Epic shared leading up to the new season, but there is also a new Red Riding Hood skin and other loosely Halloween-themed rewards to unlock.
Season 6 arrived alongside Fortnite's 6.0 patch, which vaulted several weapons and made tweaks to various others. It also introduced a new type of consumable item called Shadow Stones. You can read more about the new changes in the 6.0 patch notes. You can also find tips on all of the new challenges available thus far in our complete Fortnite Season 6 challenge roundup.
After months of resisting cross-play, Sony has finally given Fortnite players on PS4 the ability to play with those on other consoles. The platform's cross-play open beta is now available, just in time for Season 6 (now live), enabling "gameplay, progression, and commerce" in Epic's massively popular battle royale game across PS4, Xbox One, PC, Nintendo Switch, and mobile devices.
This move marks a dramatic reversal in Sony's stance on cross-play. The company has come under fire over the past few months for not allowing Fortnite players to play with and share their progress across platforms, despite that functionality being available in other versions of the game. Sony's response to the issue was that PS4 was simply the best place to play, suggesting that there was no need to allow cross-play with other platforms, but fans and other video game industry leaders were unsatisfied by the company's answer.
Sony announced its change of heart in a post on the PlayStation Blog. "Following a comprehensive evaluation process, SIE has identified a path toward supporting cross-platform features for select third party content," Sony Interactive Entertainment president John Kodera wrote. "We recognize that PS4 players have been eagerly awaiting an update, and we appreciate the community's continued patience as we have navigated through this issue to find a solution."
It's currently unclear just how long this "extended open beta" will last, but its timing is quite fortuitous. Season 6 of Fortnite has officially begun, so players will be able to play with and continue their progress on other platforms. This is especially handy, as Epic introduced a new Battle Pass for purchase, which can be leveled up to unlock special cosmetic skins and other rewards.
The mysterious island floating above Loot Lake in Fortnite has started moving, though to exactly what end remains unclear. For those that haven't been keeping up with the latest happenings in Fortnite, a strange purple cube appeared in the game and plunged itself into Loot Lake just before the start of Season 6. Once the season kicked off, however, it floated into the air, taking a chunk of land up there with it.
Currently, the cube and the attached island seems to be just moving between locations on the Fortnite map. Fans have speculated that the it's moving between the runes that the cube left on the map towards the end of Season 5, before it dropped into Loot Lake.
Data miners also seem to have discovered evidence that, in addition to travelling around the map, the cube will grow in size. A folder called "CubeGrowth" has been discovered in game files, which could lend further weight to the speculation that this is all part of upcoming event that developer Epic Games is planning.
As previously stated, Season 6 of Fortnite has kicked off and there have been some pretty significant changes to the game. In addition to a few new areas on the map--some thanks in part to the cube, again--Epic has also introduced a number of new items, including Pets. While they are undoubtedly the cutest new addition, you'll probably be wanting to see all the cool new skins and cosmetics, and we have a Season 6 rewards gallery for that. If you need help unlocking these, you can complete Fortnite's latest challenges using our Season 6 challenge roundup.
Another surprise fans received alongside the launch of Fortnite Season 6 was cross-play on PS4. On September 28, Sony Interactive Entertainment said it had "identified a path towards supporting cross-platform features for select third-party content," including Fortnite. An open beta that allows for "gameplay, progression, and commerce" across PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PC, Nintendo Switch, Mac, Android, iOS of the game is currently underway. If you need a hand with linking your console accounts to Fortnite, we've got a guide.
Change continues to come to Destiny 2 following the release of Forsaken, but the one thing you can count on is a weekly appearance from Xur. The mysterious merchant has arrived once again with a slate of Exotic gear for sale--here's what he has this week, as well as where you can find him on the map. [Update: It's now Monday, and Xur will be disappearing with the weekly reset on Tuesday. If you're interested in this week's wares, be sure to hit him up soon.]
Visiting Xur this week is pretty easy--he's located at the Tower. Head over to the hangar (go left when you first spawn) and you'll find him hanging out on a set of stairs just behind where Dead Orbit and Future War Cult are situated. You can see where he is on the map below.
As for Exotics, he has one piece of armor for each class and one weapon, as per usual. The weapon is the very fun-to-use auto rifle Sweet Business, which features a magazine size of 99 and essentially operates like a chaingun. Titans get the chest armor Hallowfire Heart, which boosts Solar ability recharge rates. Warlocks get the Winter's Guile gauntlets, which increase melee damage temporarily when you get a melee kill. And Hunters get the Aeon Swift gauntlets, which provide various benefits to nearby teammates when you roll (particularly if they're always wearing an Aeon item).
Here's the full lineup and prices:
Sweet Business (Exotic auto rifle) -- 29 Legendary Shards
Aeon Swift (Exotic Hunter gauntlets) -- 23 Legendary Shards
Alongside these items, you can pick up a Five of Swords challenge card for adding modifiers to the Nightfall. Or you can grab the expensive Fated Engram; this costs 97 Legendary Shards but guarantees to decrypt into a Year One Exotic you don't already own.
Welcome changes are on the way to Destiny 2, particularly regarding Exotics. Bungie says it plans to reduce the likelihood of Exotics dropping as duplicates of those you already own. Additionally, it's going to add new ways to acquire Masterwork Cores (needed to infuse items and upgrade them) and provide more Powerful gear through future Iron Banner events.
This was a big week for the game, as a number of new activities came online. Breakthrough was released for Crucible, while a dungeon debuted alongside a pair of new Exotic questlines, including one for Malfeasance.
The internet is awash in anticipation for Red Dead Redemption 2, and it's easy to see why. Rockstar doesn't release new games often, and when it does, the games tend to be landmark events in the gaming world. From everything we've seen so far--including our hands-on time with the game--Red Dead Redemption 2 promises to be one of the biggest games of the year.
It stars Arthur Morgan and the Dutch van der Linde gang--whose members include John Marston, the star of the original game. The game launches for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One on October 26, 2018. Its accompanying online multiplayer mode, Red Dead Online, will launch in beta at some point in November. All owners of the base game will receive free access to it.
A new gameplay trailer showcased more of the single-player component's open-world gameplay. That includes a variety of heists you can take part in and some of the customization options at your disposal.
You don't have to wait until October to secure your copy--you can pre-order Red Dead Redemption 2 right now from a number of retailers, both in-store and online. Here's all the information you need to know to lock in your Red Dead pre-order.

Netflix has acquired the foreign streaming rights for DC Universe's new Titans series. The series launches in the US on October 12, while the Netflix streaming deal gives DC a cash infusion to show it elsewhere, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
The series was originally developed for TNT, but then joined the newly launched DC Universe streaming service as its first scripted drama. It follows Robin as he steps out from the Bat-family to lead a new group of heroes, including superheroes Starfire, Raven, and Beast Boy. DC Universe costs $8 per month, bringing together original television series, comics, and classic movies.
So far the service is in its infancy--it only launched last month--but we've been impressed by what seems like a solid start with room to grow. The model works similarly to CBS' All Access, which offers Star Trek Discovery as an exclusive streaming show.
"DC Universe, as a beta, isn't filled with too many bugs and actually works exceptionally well for something this large," wrote Mat Efring. "The only real downside is the lack of certain content, specifically the DCEUDC extended cinematic universe movies. DC Universe will be a thrill to DC Comics readers and enthusiasts but doesn't have that mass appeal it needs yet. Hopefully, that will change with the release of series like Titans."
Pokemon Go's Ultra Bonus Event has come to an end, but developer Niantic has extended one of the bonuses it offered. The studio announced that Farfetch'd, Kangaskhan, Mr. Mime, and Tauros will continue to hatch from 7 km Eggs until October 8, giving you a little more time to get your hands on these rare Pokemon.
What makes these four monsters particularly desirable is that each one is normally exclusive to a certain region. Tauros can only be found in North America; Mr. Mime only appears throughout Europe; Kangaskhan is primarily found in Australia; and Farfetch'd is limited to Asia.
To add any of these Pokemon to your collection, you'd typically have to either travel to said regions or trade with someone who has already captured them, but even the latter option requires both players to meet in-person. Thanks to this bonus, you'll have a chance of hatching the monsters from 7 km Eggs--the same type of Eggs that are also capable of hatching Alolan variants.
In addition to that, Pokemon Go players still have a chance to capture Mewtwo. The Legendary Psychic Pokemon began appearing in standard Raid Battles for the first time on September 20, shortly after Articuno, Zapdos, and Moltres left the game. Mewtwo will remain a Raid Boss until October 23. Meanwhile, the Mythical Pokemon Deoxys has begun appearing in EX Raids, an exclusive type of Raid Battles that require an invitation.
Pokemon Go's next Community Day event is scheduled to take place on Sunday, October 21. The featured Pokemon this month will be Beldum. While Niantic has yet to announce what special move it will be able to learn during the event, it will presumably be Metagross's signature attack Meteor Mash, which was recently discovered by dataminers in the game's code.
