How Fortnite Season 6's Shadow Stones Work And What They Do

By Anonymous on Oct 02, 2018 12:18 am

One of the biggest changes added to Fortnite in Season 6 is the introduction of a new consumable called Shadow Stones. Using one allows you to transform into your Shadow Form, which gifts you with a couple of supernatural powers. [Update: Not long after they were added, Epic pulled Shadow Stones from the game entirely due to an unspecified bug. They were then re-introduced but have since been pulled again. There's no word on when they will return.]

In Shadow Form, you won't be able to use weapons, but whenever you stand still, you'll go completely invisible. You'll still be slightly visible whenever you move in Shadow Form, and walking around leaves behind a Shadow Trail that people can easily follow. Running around isn't all that bad though, as you'll have increased movement speed and jump height, and you won't take fall damage.

The true fun comes in your other supernatural ability, Phase. Using Phase propels in whichever direction you're facing. If there's something in your way, like a rock or a wall, you'll pass right through it. With Phase, you'll be able to easily escape anyone who discovers your Shadow Trail, or scare someone with your ghostly apparition in an ambush.

Shadow Form only lasts up to 45 seconds--and can be ended early by holding down the Alt Fire button--so you'll have to figure out when's the best time to use a Shadow Stone after you've found one. Shadow Stones randomly spawn around the map, but can usually be discovered in corrupted areas.

Fortnite Season 6 also puts Impulse Grenade, Suppressed Submachine Gun, Light Machine Gun, Bouncer, and Remote Explosives into the Vault. Grapplers have been updated so that connecting to a moving object incorporates its momentum into your launch force, and the charge for Grapplers has been reduced from 15 to 10.

Fortnite is available for Xbox One, PS4, PC, Nintendo Switch, Android, and iOS.

Overwatch Halloween Terror Event Returns With A Mysterious Riddle

By Anonymous on Oct 02, 2018 12:16 am

Halloween Terror is returning to Overwatch for the third year in a row. Blizzard is still keeping the exact details about this year's Halloween-themed event under wraps, but the developer has provided a hint in the form of a cryptic riddle.

This year's Halloween Terror starts on October 9 and continues through to October 31. Once the event ends, you'll have to wait until 2019 to unlock Overwatch's Halloween-themed content. The only clue we have as to what this year's Halloween Terror will include and where Junkenstein's Revenge's story will go next is a poem and short cinematic included in one of Overwatch's tweets.

Every year, Halloween Terror offers new Legendary skins for players to unlock--each priced at 3000 credits--that feature Overwatch's heroes dressed up in costumes, such as Dragon Symmetra. Skins from previous Halloween Terror events are also offered at a discounted price. Several of the maps receive Halloween-themed updates as well, becoming decorated with spider webs and jack-o-lanterns.

Halloween Terror also lets players participate in Junkenstein's Revenge, a PvE mode where four adventurers assemble to stop the combined forces of Dr. Junkenstein and the Witch of the Wilds--alternate reality versions of Junkrat and Mercy--from taking over the fictional kingdom of Adlersbrunn. In 2016, you and three others played as The Alchemist (Ana), the Gunslinger (McCree), the Archer (Hanzo), and the Soldier (Solder 76). In 2017, the story continued and added The Countess (Widowmaker), the Swordsman (Genji), the Monk (Zenyatta), and the Viking (Torbjorn).

Overwatch is available for Xbox One, PS4, and PC.

There's "A Good Chance" More Insidious Movies Will Happen

By Anonymous on Oct 01, 2018 11:53 pm

When Insidious: The Last Key hit theaters back in January, many believed this to be the final chapter of the horror franchise. It essentially told the origin story of Elisa Rainier (Lin Shaye), something fans of the franchise had been hoping for.

Could there be more story to tell from the Insidious lore, though? While another sequel to the series hasn't been announced, producer Jason Blum admits a return is possible. While speaking to GameSpot to promote the new Halloween, he admitted "there's a very good chance" another Insidious movie will happen at some point.

"What was our tagline on [The Last Key]? Do you remember? The Final Chapter or something," he said. "I'm trying to fight it, I haven't fought it successfully yet, but like I said I think there's a good chance."

Of course, should another Insidious movie happen, there are some questions to ask. Would Leigh Whannell--writer of all four films, director of Insidious: Chapter 3--be involved? Who would take over as director? How much of the franchise's cast would return?

Outside of Shaye's Rainier, the only characters to appear in all four films are Tucker (Angus Sampson) and Specs (Whannell). Surely someone from that trio would have to appear, if only to keep the continuity alive.

Whatever the case, without being announced yet, chances are it'll be some time before another Insidious film comes to pass. As it stands, Blumhouse--the production company behind the franchise--has sequels to Happy Death Day and The Gallows in the works, along with a list of other horror films--including Jordan Peele's next movie Us and M. Night Shyamalan's Glass.

For fans of the franchise, though, Blum saying there's a "good chance" of getting another Insidious movie is great news. Now you just need to wait patiently for it to hopefully happen.

Red Dead Redemption 2 Trailer Shows Off New Deadeye System

By Anonymous on Oct 01, 2018 11:38 pm

The latest trailer for Red Dead Redemption 2 shows off the newly expanded Deadeye system, which comes with some added bells and whistles for outlaws looking to cause trouble.

As opposed to Deadeye in the classic Red Dead Redemption, this new one progresses in stages and lets you access a few different kinds of functions. You can use it to slow time and aim your shots carefully, or you can paint targets to have Arthur automatically squeeze off shots. You can even see critical or weak points on enemies, as evidenced by an X-ray effect. This will come in handy when fighting off human enemies, but the trailer also shows Arthur shooting down a stage coach by targeting an explosive piece.

The same trailer showed off the wide variety of criminal activities you can take part in, from loansharking to good old-fashioned robbery. Following a kickoff marked by hands-on time, Rockstar is now releasing new information on Red Dead Redemption 2 at a steady clip now approaching its release on October 26. Its multiplayer mode, Red Dead Online, will launch approximately a month after the main game, but it will be in beta and Rockstar expects some kinks to work out.

For more on Red Dead Redemption, check out our pre-order guide. If you want to spring for console to go along with it, Sony is offering a special PlayStation 4 bundle that essentially includes the standard version for free--all 105 gigs of it.

Another Free Mythical Pokemon Available Soon For Ultra Sun And Moon

By Anonymous on Oct 01, 2018 11:32 pm

Pokemon fans will soon have a chance to get their hands on October's free Legendary Pokemon for Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon, but those aren't the only rare monsters up for grabs this month. To commemorate the release of the upcoming Lost Thunder expansion for Pokemon TCG, The Pokemon Company is also giving away a rare Mythical Pokemon for the 3DS games this month: the Thunderclap Pokemon Zeraora.

First revealed this past April, Zeraora is a fast, cat-like Electric-type monster debuting in the latest Pokemon movie, The Power of Us. This marks the first opportunity players will have to get their hands on one; like other Mythical Pokemon, Zeraora isn't obtainable within the actual games, so you'll want to add one to your collection while you can.

As usual, the way you'll be able to get Zeraora depends on where you live. In the US, players can pick up a download code for the Mythical Pokemon at GameStop stores from October 19 to November 19; in the UK, The Pokemon Company is distributing codes for Zeraora at Game stores from October 1 to November 15.

Unlike most of the other free Pokemon given out this year, you can only redeem the Zeraora code in either Ultra Sun or Ultra Moon. Regardless of which version you claim it in, the Pokemon comes at level 50 and is equipped with an Air Balloon, an item that negates Ground-type attacks until it is popped. It also knows the moves Plasma Fist, Thunder Punch, Close Combat, and Thunder.

To redeem your download code, first select Mystery Gift from the games' main menu, then choose the option to receive your gift via a code/password. Input your code and Zeraora will be downloaded into your game. You'll then need to pick it up from the deliveryman waiting inside any Pokemon Center.

In addition to Zeraora, The Pokemon Company will give away two Legendary Pokemon originally from the Black and White versions this month: Reshiram and Zekrom. More details on that distribution will be announced soon. In the meantime, you can see all the free Pokemon for Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon available right now.

Hold The Dark Review: A Bleak, Bloody Netflix Mystery

By Anonymous on Oct 01, 2018 11:22 pm

Jeremy Saulnier has been quietly establishing himself as one of the most talented independent filmmakers for several years now. His witty horror comedy debut Murder Party was followed by 2013's intense revenge thriller Blue Ruin, which demonstrated his skill at combining a dark and compelling character drama with often upsetting violence. The stakes were raised even higher by 2015's brilliant, savage punk rock siege movie Green Room, and while some fans were disappointed that he ultimately dropped out of helming all of True Detective Season 3, the bleak, ambitious Netflix movie Hold the Dark will further his reputation.

The film is based on William Giraldi's 2014 novel, with a screenplay by Saulnier's regular collaborator Macon Blair. It's set in the small town of Keelut, deep in the Alaskan wilderness, where young mother Medora Slone (Riley Keough) is coming to terms with the the abduction of her child by a pack of wolves. This is the latest in a series of wolf attacks on the town's children, so she contacts renowned wolf expert and writer Russell Core (Westworld's Jeffrey Wright) to track and kill the animal that took her child. Meanwhile, her husband Vernon (a terrifying Alexander Skarsgård) is serving in Iraq, but an injury sends him home, where a dark, bloody reckoning over the death of his son is inevitable.

Saulnier is a master at establishing mood. From the the moment Core arrives in Keelut, we know something is very wrong--something unspoken--and that things are not what they seem. The sparse script and Keough and Wright's underplayed performances add to the unease. These are people who are clearly not used to talking much, and the long silences that accompany their initial encounters deftly create the sense that something very bad is about to happen. Core sets out into the wilderness to track the wolves, but it's what he discovers when he returns after that first day that really kickstarts the plot.

While both Blue Ruin and Green Room were small scale, claustrophobic thrillers that used limited casts and locations to tell simple stories, Hold the Dark is a far bigger, more ambitious project. The arrival of Vernon around the 30 minute mark quickly expands what initially seemed like a simple movie. The cast widens to include the superstitious locals and the neighboring police force, and Saulnier takes us beyond the boundaries of Keelut to explore this entire region. The stunning cinematography and droning music help create an environment that is unforgiving and almost otherworldly. And while nothing actually supernatural happens, at times Hold the Dark feels like a horror movie, as Medora tells Core about the terrifying darkness that lurks in the wilderness and the local people talk of possession by wolves.

No Caption Provided

Saulnier refrains from explaining too much and the movie is steeped in ambiguity; because of the sparse dialogue we are often left to try work out the character motivations through their actions rather than words. In the case of Vernon, a terrifying, vengeful father who can only express himself through violence, this is not always easy. There are hidden, unspoken secrets that are hinted at but never fully expanded on, and the ending is far from the tidy resolution expected from a more conventional thriller.

That's not to say Hold the Dark is always a slow-paced, open-ended mystery. Saulnier might like his narrative ambiguity, but he also loves to deliver visceral action. Fans of his previous movies won't be surprised to learn that this new one contains some of the most shocking scenes of violence you'll see this year; Saulnier never revels in the gore and much of it is quickly cut, but the sudden, random way that the most brutal violence erupts keeps things tense throughout. Most notably, there is a harrowing, brilliantly-directed shoot-out sequence in the middle of the movie, in which a team of inexperienced cops are pinned down by an adversary with a machine gun.

Hold the Dark is a mysterious, uncompromising movie that won't be for everyone. It's very dark--there is little humor, and with the exception of Jame Badge Dale's police chief Donald, the bleak tone keeps us from feeling much sympathy for even the "good guys," let alone Skarsgård's psychotic Vernon and his accomplices. The violence is strong and the movie leaves as many questions as it starts with. But for those who like their thrillers to provoke and challenge as well as thrill, it's an impressive achievement that won't be quickly forgotten.

Four Free PC Games For Twitch / Amazon Prime Members In October

By Anonymous on Oct 01, 2018 10:37 pm

It's October, in case you hadn't heard, which means Twitch is giving away a new selection of PC games for free for anyone with an Amazon Prime account. This is a particularly great month for anyone who's into horror and creepy games in general, because that's the theme for this month's games. This is the month of Halloween, after all.

The games in question are fairly well known, headlined by Darksiders: Warmastered Edition. In it, you play as War, one of the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse, who sets out to fight back the forces of hell after the cataclysmic event gets triggered prematurely. If you can get past the title, you'll find a fine action game that mixes combat inspired by God of War with the types of elaborate puzzles you'd find in a Zelda game. With Darksiders 3 launching November 27, now is a great time to play this one.

Next up is Soma, a fittingly chilling addition to this month's freebies in which you must make it through an underwater research facility and learn what's going on there while being hunted. Then comes the point-and-click horror game Sanitarium, followed by the genre-defining action/adventure game System Shock.

To collect your free games, just head over to Twitch on a computer and click the crown-shaped icon at the top of the page. That opens a dropdown menu with a list of all the freebies you're eligible for. Click the button under each game to add it to your account, then go to the "My Games" section of the Twitch desktop app to install it.

You can also pick up a free Golden Loot Box in Overwatch between now and October 8, and some free PUBG gear until October 17.

Red Dead Redemption 2 Trailer Shows Lots Of Ways To Be A Crook

By Anonymous on Oct 01, 2018 10:30 pm

Rockstar released the latest trailer for Red Dead Redemption 2 this morning, and as promised, it detailed a lot more of the variety activities you can take on while you explore the Old West. The narration notes that Arthur can take on "a wide array of nefarious activities with his gang members."

As seen in the trailer, you can plan a large-scale heist, rob a train, a coach, or even just an individual on a walk. You can also hold up a store, burgle a house, or go into loansharking. At one point we get a glimpse of how the gang element may work as Arthur pursues enemies through a house and then has an apparent ally enter through another other door to help.

You can also explore the countryside, which is said to be controlled by several different gangs. And when you commit crimes, lawmen will be on your tail. Eventually you might attract the attention of bounty hunters who will aim to track you down and collect the price on your head.

If you're only slightly evil and prefer to only inflict the townsfolk with minor inconveniences, you can just refuse to take a bath. The trailer implies this will imbue you with a powerful stink that will offend the sensibilities of the people you meet.

We recently had hands-on with Red Dead Redemption 2, and discussed it in-depth in our preview video. Rockstar is still slowly outlining more details, like the hunting and fishing mechanics. RDR2 will launch as a single-player only game, and then the Red Dead Online will come as a beta roughly a month later. The game launches October 26 for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. Check out our Red Dead Redemption pre-order guide for more details.

WWE 2K19 Roster Confirmed: All 200+ Wrestlers & Superstars, Including DLC

By Anonymous on Oct 01, 2018 10:21 pm

The release date of WWE 2K19 is coming up quickly. One of the most exciting aspects of any new entry in the WWE 2K series is its enormous roster of playable characters, and 2K19 will not be scaling things back--quite the opposite, in fact. 2K has announced the majority of its lineup of wrestlers, and it offers a sizable plethora of superstars to choose from when the game releases on October 9, 2018. Last year's WWE 2K18 ended up with over 180 wrestlers--the largest in the history of the series to that point--and 2K19 has already comfortably topped that. Here's a detailed look at every member of the 2K19 roster.

More WWE superstars were added to the roster for WWE 2K19 very recently, as 2K revealed its DLC for the upcoming game. This batch added 11 wrestlers to the game, none of which were playable in previous versions. It includes Raw superstar Bobby Lashley, and NXT superstars Lacey Evans, Ricochet, and EC3. We've also gotten to go hands-on with MyCareer and found that overall, 2K19 is fun again.

During another recent roster reveal from 2K, Rusev and Lana revealed the latest WWE 2K19 playable superstars with Cesaro and Sheamus, also known as The Bar. The focus for this batch was legendary WWE wrestlers. The large reveal had a few new additions to the game, including Ted DiBiase, who has been only a manager in previous games. Additionally, fan favorites like Scott Hall, Kevin Nash, and Booker T will be included in the new game.

Fans of both Daniel Bryan are going to be very happy as 2K is bringing back Showcase Mode for WWE 2K19, which follows the career of the superstar. From his first match as Bryan Danielson to his feuds with The Miz, it will be covered in the upcoming game. Among the new features are the Million Dollar Challenge, which takes place within the new Challenge Mode. Cover star AJ Styles headlines the roster, while those who pre-order will get bonus characters Ronda Rousey and Rey Mysterio. Additionally, the $130 Wooooo! Edition of the game has been announced which comes with a bunch of exclusives including a season pass, exclusive roster additions, a piece of Ric Flair's robe, early access to play, and more.

This year's edition will be skipping Nintendo Switch, after last year's port featured a bevy of problems from frame rate issues to resolution dropping down to 540p, even in docked mode. However, the game will still be released in early October for Xbox One, PS4, and PC. If you're interested in pre-ordering WWE 2K19, check out our pre-order guide, with all the info about what each edition contains, where to buy it, and pricing.

As release approaches, we'll keep you updated with all the newly confirmed superstars in the game, as well as a breakdown of which shows these wrestlers are from and how many new additions will be playable.
