The SteamVR Knuckles controllers being developed for HTC Vive want to offer way more than just motion tracking; these controllers can track your fingers without you having to worry about dropping them. Denny Unger of Cloudhead Games demoed the prototype controllers in a recent video, showing off what the experience promises.
Unlike the Oculus Touch controllers, the Knuckles controllers have sensors for all five fingers and wrap around your hands. Remove a finger from the sensors to point, or curve your thumb in on the trackpad to make a fist. Because of their design, if you let go of the controllers entirely, and they're going to stay in your palms. This means you'll have more room to use your hands intuitively in VR games without having to worry about dropping your controllers.
These aren't traditional face controllers in any sense. The Knuckles controllers feature a pair of face buttons to go along with a System button; the rest is touch sensitive. The dev kit guide shows that the thumb rests in a deep well-like trackpad at the top of the controller, followed by the index finger on a trigger behind it. The other three fingers rest on the base of the controller. The controller is secured to the hand with an adjustable strap.
LawBreakers developer Boss Key Games has teamed up with Limited Run Games for a physical release of the upcoming shooter. A collector's edition and standard edition will be released this August on PC and PS4.
Both versions will include Abaddon's journal; two character card packs, one for each faction; an exclusive LawBreakers sticker set, Deadzo sticker, and postcard; and an individually numbered box. The $70 collector's edition will be identical on both platforms with one exception: the PC version comes with a digital deluxe Steam code, while the PS4 edition includes a physical copy.
PC collector's editions are available for pre-order now on Limited Run's website, but will close on July 7. There is no limit to the PC version as they will be made as to meet demand. The PS4 collector's edition will be available for order on August 4 and is limited to 2,500 units.
If you can't manage to get your hands on a collector's edition, or if it just isn't for you, you can snag a physical copy for PS4. This version will be limited to 5,000 units.
LawBreakers is a team-based FPS like your standard competitive shooter, but with gravity-defying tricks thrown in. It's a fast-paced game featuring two factions, nine different classes, diverse combat abilities, and options to demolish the competition on the ground or in the air.
LawBreakers is out on PC and PS4 August 8, but if you just can't wait to get your hands on it, you can play the beta on Steam now.
