Developer Techland recently announced that its zombie action game, Dying Light, is getting a ton of free DLC in the next 12 months. To kick things off, it has just released a free content pack on PC that includes new enemies, a weapon, and more.
Called Content Drop #0, it's meant to be a "lead-in" to the frequent DLC drops starting in September. Its most significant additions are a new faction of soldiers and a new type of enemy. According to a press release, the soldiers are "set to cause havoc in the Old Town," while the zombie is referred to as a Mutated Goon. You can check out the content in the video above.
In addition, the DLC adds a "Hunted" player outfit and a weapon, the Harran Military Rifle. The rifle, however, is exclusively available through Techland's new distribution platform, called Gemly. Players can buy games from Techland and other developers through Gemly, and the platform also acts as a community hub and stats system for Techland games.
The studio will release 10 DLC packs over the course of 12 months, with the first one coming in September. Content Drop #0 is currently only available on PC, but it'll come to consoles when the September DLC pack launches. Dying Light is available for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC.
Destiny 2's beta has wrapped up, and the full version's release is now just over a month away. Because the beta is based on a months-old version of the game, one complaint about it--a shortage of Heavy Weapon ammo--was revealed to be something that has already been fixed. Now, another problem area for some players has also been confirmed as something that's been resolved.
Among the content available in the beta is the first story mission, Homecoming. This features a segment where you're tasked with overloading a generator by shooting specific spots on it. Despite there being no enemies around, this led to countless deaths and proved to be perhaps the single hardest section of a beta that also features a boss battle at the end of a Strike. This is thanks to two rotating turbine arms that kill you when they come into contact with you. But as it turns out, you won't have to deal with two of them in the full game.
Speaking on the Namek vs. Saiyan podcast (via Polygon), game director Luke Smith was asked about whether Bungie anticipated this area being so difficult. "I was surprised by the turbine, because there's only one turbine in the shipping game," he said. "I was surprised to see two of 'em."
Smith noted that even he had even fallen victim to the turbine in the course of playing. He added, "That's a great example of something that we implemented, we found it to be too challenging--especially for that opening sequence of the game--and in the shipping game, we removed it. There's one spinning turbine instead of two."
Earlier in the interview, Smith reiterated what we had previously heard, which was that this beta was more "a test of of our technology … and less of a test of our game design because the content is a few months old." Perhaps in response to some of the other criticisms of the beta, he also noted that key elements, like progression, were rendered inaccessible, and that certain things--such as the core game loop--have been kept secret.
Fortnite is scheduled to launch in full sometime next year as a free-to-play game, and it was recently released in Early Access on PS4, Xbox One, and PC. However, it's currently only playable if you purchase a paid version of the game. In spite of the fact that it'll be free next year, Fortnite has already sold a lot of copies.
On Twitter today, Fortnite creative director Darren Sugg revealed that over 500,000 people have already purchased one of the game's paid tiers. It's currently available in several packs: the $40 standard version comes with access to the game as well as loot packs and cosmetic items. The $60 Deluxe, $80 Super Deluxe, and $150 Limited Editions include more bonuses like additional heroes, weapon packs, and more.
The long wait for the game appears to not have dampened player anticipation for it; in fact, if anything, excitement and interest seems even higher because of its delays. Fortnite was first revealed way back in December 2011; since then, it's gone through numerous revisions, with Epic's CEO saying in 2016 that "it's a game that takes time to get right."
Fortnite will officially leave Early Access in 2018, at which point it'll become a free-to-play game. At this time, it's unclear how the free-to-play model will work. If you're interested in jumping into the game now, you can read more about Fortnite's Early Access tiers here.
Exotic items are the most desirable in Destiny--players will spend countless hours attempting to hunt them down. So it's perhaps a bit cruel--but certainly effective--that Activision is now offering up a guaranteed Exotic weapon in exchange for a Destiny 2 pre-order.
As featured in the trailer above, anyone who pre-orders the upcoming Bungie shooter will get their hands on Coldheart. This is an Exotic trace rifle, which is a new type of weapon in Destiny 2. It fires a constant beam in a straight line that deals damage to foes.
Thankfully for those who are uninterested in pre-ordering games, this won't be the only way to get the weapon. Fine print shown in the trailer notes that, while it will be available right at launch on consoles and PC, it can be "attained through gameplay" starting on December 5. It's unclear at what point you'll gain access to the weapon by pre-ordering; you presumably won't jump into the first level with one equipped.
The map in Playerunknown's Battlegrounds isn't like the ones in other shooters. It's a massive, sprawling arena that has several towns, dozens of buildings, terrain features, and even a tunnel system. Developer Bluehole is currently working on two new maps to add to the game, but given this size and complexity, they're still several months from release.
In an interview with Eurogamer, Brendan "Playerunknown" Greene spoke about the difficulties of making new maps for the game, explaining that the studio still doesn't have a planned release date for them. The developer has a long way to go before the next one is playable.
"We're going to explain these maps are still in early development and we're still working on two at the moment," he said. "We're trying to pick one to focus on. But it's still going to take us many months to get it out."
To give perspective on how long it takes Bluehole to create these levels, Greene revealed that it was no easy feat to get the first one up and running. "Maps are not an easy thing to do; the last map took us about six to nine months to get to a really playable state," he explained. "Maps take time. But we're going to be working hard and we're expanding the team so there's no ETA, they'll come when they're ready."
We've seen very little of the new maps; Bluehole has only released two images so far, both showing a desert location. As Greene explained, those screenshots showed a very early prototype of the level. "What people saw in that is what is called 'a beautiful corner,' an area of the map made to show the art director the overall feel the team want to give the map," he stated.
There's a whole lot more from Greene's interview over at Eurogamer; be sure to check it out.
The console versions will include the base game plus "many" of the content add-ons The Sims 4 received on PC, according to publisher EA. The company went on to say that fans can look forward to "periodic game updates and extra content releases."
Additionally, the game's pre-order bonuses have been revealed. Those who buy in advance will receive the Perfect Patio Stuff pack, which introduces hot tubs and "tons of bonus décor for your outdoor oasis." And while the full game launches November 17, you can get three days' early access if you pre-order the Deluxe Party Edition, which comes with the Perfect Patio Stuff pack and "special content like a Flaming Tiki Bar, outrageous costumes, silly animal hats, and more."
Finally, the publisher announced that EA Access subscribers on Xbox One can sample the game a week early, starting November 9, for no extra charge and for a limited time only. Just recently, The Sims 4 joined Origin Access, the PC equivalent of EA Access, and is now playable via that service for no extra charge.
Since the game's launch on PC three years ago, The Sims 4 has seen continued support from EA and developer Maxis. Earlier in 2017 the game received a free update that added toddlers, for example.
"I'm not exaggerating when I say we've been talking about this particular update for years," executive producer Lyndsay Pearson said at the time. "We just had to find the right time, resources, and design to allow us to start the heavy process of actually building and bringing toddlers to life. And believe me when I say it has been really really difficult to not talk about this as we worked to get it right."
In our original PC review, critic Kevin VanOrd called The Sims 4 "a lovely and lively game that elicits constant smirks," but he said a "a decked-out version of The Sims 3 is far more inviting." Read more in our full The Sims 4 review.
The higher end Sega Genesis Flashback and Atari Flashback 8 Gold are slated to release on September 22--a little over a week before Nintendo's official new micro console, the SNES Classic, launches. Both the Sega and Atari Flashback systems retail for $80 each and come pre-loaded with a selection of classic titles; the Genesis Flashback features 85 games, while the Atari Flashback includes 120. Both consoles also support 720p HDMI output and include two wireless controllers, ports for wired controllers, and a save/pause/rewind feature for every title.
In addition to those, AtGames is offering several other versions of the classic Sega and Atari consoles. The Atari Flashback Portable and Sega Genesis Ultimate Portable, as their name implies, are handheld versions of the classic consoles and come pre-loaded with 70 and 85 games, respectively. These versions retail for $60 each and go on sale on September 1. You can learn more about the consoles on AtGames' website.
August is coming up soon, and Sony has now revealed what games PlayStation Plus members will be able to download for free starting next week. As usual, there's a total of six games divided evenly across PS4, PS3, and Vita.
PS4 owners get their hands on destruction-oriented open-world game Just Cause 3, as well as Assassin's Creed: Freedom Cry. This is the standalone spinoff of Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag where you play as Adéwalé, a slave-turned-Assassin. Free-to-play game Dreadnought launches into open beta on August 1, and Plus members will be able to pick up a free DLC pack for it starting on August 15.
On PS3, the games include Super Motherload and Snakeball. Those with a Vita can pick up Level 22 and the excellent Downwell, which also features Cross-Buy with PS4, getting PS4 owners a total of three games this month.
These games will be free to download for Plus members beginning next Tuesday, August 1. You can still pick up all of July's free Plus games until then.
As an additional bonus over the next six weeks, Plus members in the US can rent select movies from the PlayStation Store for 99 cents each. The current title is The Lego Batman Movie; it will be followed by Logan, Power Rangers, Kong: Skull Island, Boss Baby, and Ghost in the Shell.
You'll soon be able to get your hands on a bunch of new Fallout merchandise as part of a new partnership with Loot Crate. The line of boxes will ship every two months, with each one including "four to six exclusively licensed items across gear and other collectable things valued at $65+."
The first box's theme will be Vault-Tec, and it will include an exclusive Fallout 3 Fawkes figure. Each box going forward will include another exclusive figurine, as well as pieces of a power armor set that "builds from crate to crate."
Loot Crate says that if you pre-order a year's worth of boxes, you'll receive a bonus mini-nuke USB hub. The first crate will ship in December, with each one costing $35 within the US--or $50 internationally--not including shipping fees.
Like many other online games, a match of Overwatch can be severely impacted by players who go idle, harass others, or otherwise exhibit what Blizzard broadly labels as "bad behavior." Because of that, the developer has announced plans to more severely punish those who would ruin the experience for others.
"We believe that our in-game reporting and player penalty system is one of our most important features, and it's something we want to invest in significantly over the next year," Blizzard explained on its forums. "To this end, effective immediately, we will be issuing increased penalties to players in response to verified reports of bad behavior."
Among the things that qualify are "abusive chat, harassment, in-game spam, match inactivity (being intentionally AFK), and griefing." Blizzard encouraged players to report anyone they see doing these things, and it vowed to silence, suspend, or ban confirmed offenders.
Beyond this, Blizzard has plans to improve the penalty system in other ways. For instance, in the future, there will be scaling bans in Competitive Play, and you'll be notified when action is taken against a player you've reported.
Additionally, the reporting system will be implemented on PS4 and Xbox One. "As console players ourselves, we know it's been frustrating to not have this functionality on your platform," Blizzard said. "We are actively working on the feature and have many elements of undergoing internal testing right now. Our goal is to implement similar reporting options as are currently available on PC, and any improvements made to PC between now and when it's available."
Square Enix will soon be holding a closed beta for Final Fantasy XV's forthcoming multiplayer expansion. Players who've purchased the game's $25 season pass and have either a PS Plus or Xbox Live Gold subscription will be able to sample the Comrades DLC next week from August 3-8.
The Comrades expansion is a cooperative multiplayer mode for the critically acclaimed RPG. Players will be able to create their own avatar, which they can then use to take part in quests with up to three other players. The full expansion will also feature an array of new weapons and sigils with different attack patterns, as well as single-player quests that can be undertaken with three AI party members.
The closed beta offers a limited sampling of the features from the full version. Participants can save up to eight avatars and customize them with "elements limited to the test version," according to the game's official website. The closed beta will also feature four different weapon types with "attack patterns that vary from Noctis," as well as three quests "with up to three legs to each quest." You can see some screenshots from the expansion below.
Square Enix first announced the Comrades expansion last October, but little has been said about it since then. Most recently, the publisher shared a screenshot of a character-creation system that was in development for the mode, though director Hajime Tabata teased that player-created characters may be used in single-player as well. A future update to the Comrades expansion will give players the option to also play as Noctis and his friends.
Square Enix hasn't announced a release date for the Comrades expansion, though more details are "forthcoming." In the meantime, Final Fantasy XV players have the Power Rangers-like Magitek Exosuits to look forward to, which are slated to arrive as a free update. The game's third DLC chapter, Episode Ignis, is also scheduled to release this December.
Hearthstone's next expansion, Knights of the Frozen Throne, is going to introduce 135 new cards to the game's ever-rotating set, and at least one of those cards is going to be a new Legendary dragon.
Given that the expansion is set in the Icecrown Citadel, the heart of the Lich King's fortress, you could probably have guessed that the Lich King's loyal servant Sindragosa would be a part of the experience in some way. And it turns out that she's a Legendary Mage card. An 8/8 that costs eight mana, Sindragosa's text includes "Battlecry: Summon two 0/1 Frozen Champions."
Those Frozen Champions are one mana 0/1 cards with a potentially powerful Deathrattle effect: "Add a random Legendary minion to your hand." You can see what the cards look like close-up in the images below.
While the true power (and value) of the card will only really be revealed when we know the full set of Frozen Throne cards, we got to ask Hearthstone senior desinger Matt Place a few questions to help set up the card:
GameSpot: For Hearthstone fans who might not be as up on their Warcraft lore, what's Sindragosa's story in a nutshell?
The Lich King himself calls the mighty fallen blue dragon, Sindragosa, back from the dead in Icecrown. Experiencing her full Skeletal Frost Wyrm glory is literally breathtaking.
As a servant of the Lich King, why is her ability a Battlecry instead of Deathrattle?
Like many of the servants to the Lich King, Sindragosa's power is heavily tied to Deathrattle. Instead of just one Deathrattle effect, she comes with two! Her Battlecry summons a pair of Frozen Champions, that each give you a random Legendary minion when slain. Luckily they are 0/1, so you can pick them off with your hero power to quickly cash in.
I think Dragons tend to be more associated with Priest/Paladin decks. How do you think this will play into the Mage meta?
Many of Hearthstone's higher cost dragons have seen a good amount of top-level play, both as part of a dragon-themed deck and as late-game finishers. At eight cost for an 8/8, that comes with two more Legendary minions, I expect Sindragosa to be very appealing for Mage decks looking for a solid late-game finisher.
I'm sure Sindragosa will match well with other cards in the upcoming deck, but what synergies do you see players taking advantage of with the current card selection?
Played by herself, Sindragosa provides a lot of power. But combining her with cards like N'Zoth to get back her Fallen Champions, or The Curator to help insure you have her on turn eight, can be quite strong...and super fun!
For the Frozen Champions, there tends to be debate in the community about "good" vs "bad" RNG. Do you think that, since these cards summon a Legendary, that helps mitigate some of the pushback against this type of randomness?
I believe random is at its best when it is creating new scenarios and game states for the players. Not only does this lead to fun, it is also skill-testing. If you get a random card you don't normally play with, or in this case, a random Legendary that Mage may not normally have access to, it can be a fun challenge to figure out how make best use of it.
And I like cards like Sindragosa and her Frozen Champions that help create these new scenarios while also giving you a solid base line. Even if one of the Legendary cards isn't useful, you still have a giant 8/8 dragon and your other Legendary minion to work with.
-----
Knights of the Frozen Throne doesn't have a specific release date outside of "August," but discounted pre-orders for the set are available now and include a unique card back. In addition to new cards, the expansion will also include the new-to-Hearthstone Lifesteal keyword as well as a set of Legendary Hero cards that will replace both your portrait and Hero Power when used. The expansion also includes access to single-player missions, which will award you one of those new random Legendary Hero cards.
In case you missed it, Hearthstone had a big presence at San Diego Comic-Con last week, with cosplayer Jessica Nigri taking on the roll of the dragon Sindragosa, and the Lich King showing up for photo ops at the "Ice Cream" Citadel. You can check out a preview of that gallery in the photos above.
It's continued to be a slow stretch for new additions to the Xbox One's backwards compatibility library. That drought has ended for at least one day, as three more Xbox 360 games are now playable on Xbox One, including one that you may soon receive for free.
Red Faction: Armageddon headlines the list of new backwards compatible games. It's the most recent entry in the Red Faction series and features some elements of the destruction that made earlier Red Faction games so popular. If you don't already own the game, you'll soon get your hands on a free digital copy if you subscribe to Xbox Live Gold, as it will be offered as a Games With Gold title during the first half of August.
The other two new backwards compatible games are a pair of arcade-style shooters: Gyruss and Raiden IV. The former is an old Konami arcade game, while Raiden IV is a more modern title, having originally been released in arcades in 2007.
The Xbox One's backwards compatibility feature, introduced in November 2015, lets you play Xbox 360 games on the new console. But what games are available? We've now rounded them all up--and we'll continue to update this post as new games are made available.

Daniel Craig is to return as James Bond in the franchise's next film, according to a new report. The actor had previously said he would "rather break this glass and slash my wrists" than play the character for a fifth time, but sources have told The New York Times that Craig is to portray Bond "in at least one more film." This backs up a similar report from British tabloid the Mirror earlier this month.
The next film in the series, which for now is simply being referred to as Bond 25, already has a release date--November 8, 2019--though production companies Eon and Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer have so far not officially announced who will play Bond in the film, nor who will direct it. "Additional details regarding distribution, including international release dates, [and] the film's cast and director will be announced at a later date," they said in a joint statement earlier this week. The only confirmed details for Bond 25 right now are that it will be produced by series stalwarts Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli, and that longtime writing duo Neal Purvis and Robert Wade will return.
Following the completion of the most recent film in the series, 2015's Spectre, Craig was unequivocal on whether he wanted to do another Bond film. "I'd rather break this glass and slash my wrists," he told TimeOut. "No, not at the moment. Not at all. That's fine. I'm over it at the moment. We're done [filming Spectre]. All I want to do is move on.
"At the moment, we've done it. I'm not in discussion with anybody about anything. If I did another Bond movie, it would only be for the money."
"I'll keep doing it as long as I still get a kick out of it," he said, before addressing his strong statements when promoting Spectre: "They say that s**t sticks, and that definitely stuck," he said. "It was the day after filming [stopped on Spectre]. I'd been away from home for a year."
"It's a good gig. I enjoy it. If I were to stop doing it, I would miss it terribly."
Publisher EA has released a new trailer for its upcoming driving game Need For Speed Payback. The video offers our best look yet at the title's customization systems and derelict cars, which you can rebuild from scrap over the course of the game. Take a look at the trailer for yourself above.
The trailer also highlights what bonuses will be available for those who pre-order. As previously announced, you'll be able to grab the Platinum Car Pack, which grants instant access to the following five cars:
"Would that be a platform that Need for Speed: Payback could run on? I don't see why [not], but it's not something we're looking to at this very moment," executive producer Marcus Nilsson explained.
Need For Speed Payback launches on November 10 for PS4, Xbox One, and PC, with a 10 hour trial for EA/Origin Access members starting November 2.
If you enjoyed Mafia III, now might be the time to dive back in. The game's third DLC pack, Sign of the Times, is out now on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC. The expansion will set you back US $10 / £8 / AU $13.45 on each platform, or you can grab it for no extra charge if you already own the US $30 / £25 / AU $45 season pass.
Altogether the new add-on comes in a small 1.1 GB download on console, though you'll need 3 GB free if you're playing on PC. Take a look at Sign of the Times' launch trailer above.
According to publisher 2K, Sign of the Times sees you take on a "deranged and violent group of cultists" called The Ensanglante. The cult uses a hallucinogenic drug to "bend its members to their will" and turn them into killers, all in service of restoring righteousness to New Bordeaux through violent rituals.
In a blog post, Mafia III senior writer Ed Fowler detailed how Sign of the Times has a more deliberate pacing than the previous two expansions, Faster, Baby! and Stones Unturned.
"There's a mystery to solve with Lincoln searching for stray objects left behind, strange writing--you'll even examine bodies for clues," the writer said. "By eyeballing the environment and using a blacklight flashlight to uncover hints, you'll zero in on where The Ensanglante operate and what the hell their endgame is for New Bordeaux. At key points in this DLC, we have these investigation zones where you'll methodically look for clues that reveal more of the truth… and it can quickly turn a corner where you'll be dealing with cult members in tense firefights."
Warner Bros. Pictures has announced Wonder Woman 2 will hit theatres on December 13, 2019, with Gal Gadot reprising her role as the amazonian warrior turned superhero. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Patty Jenkins, who directed the first movie, "is in negotiations to return."
Wonder Woman's domestic box office numbers have also surpassed Man of Steel ($291 million) and Iron Man ($318.4 million) in their entire runs. According to Box Office Mojo, the movie has also surpassed Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice ($330 million) and Suicide Squad ($325 million) in terms of US box office performance.
Jenkins, who is already writing a treatment for the sequel, previously said the follow-up will be set in the United States. "The story will take place in the US, which I think is right," she said. "She's Wonder Woman. She's got to come to America. It's time."
The Nintendo Switch has sold nearly five million units since its launch in March, the Japanese publisher announced today. The company stated in its quarterly earnings report that the hybrid console had shifted 4.7 million units by the end of June 2017. Switch sales are projected to reach 10 million by the end of March next year.
Elsewhere, the system's biggest sellers include The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild--which sold 3.92 million units up to the end of June (though it's unclear whether this also includes Wii U software sales)--and Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, of which 3.5 million copies were sold in the same period. The only other Switch game to sell over 1 million units by then was Arms, whose sales stood at 1.18 million. The console's latest big title, Splatoon 2, was not considered in the April-June report as its launch came in July.
The Switch's strong showing follows a launch that saw it ship 2.74 million units in March alone--however, that figure applies to units shipped to retailers only, and not consumer sales. Today's earnings report says nearly 2 million more units have been sold through to consumers since, leading to an increase in year-on-year revenue. Check out all the details from Nintendo's financial highlights here.
Nintendo has detailed its financial performance for the three month period April 1 to June 30, 2017, and reported a significant increase in sales when compared to the same period in 2016. Nintendo cited sales as $1.3 billion, which is a 148% increase over 2016's $553 million.
Operating profit was also shown to be an improvement over 2016's, reaching $144 million, compared to $45 million last year. In a statement released alongside the financial report, Nintendo confirmed Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, which launched in April, has sold 3.5 million units worldwide.
Arms, which launched in April and has only been on sale for around two months, was described as being "off to a good start with 1.18 million units sold globally." The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild was released in March (the previous financial quarter) and "continued to perform well, selling 1.16 million units." Cumulative sales of the game have reached 3.92 million units.
Nintendo has not clarified whether the The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild sales mentioned above are just for Switch, or if they also include sales of the Wii U version.
In total, the Nintendo Switch hardware sold 1.97 million units for this three month period, while software sales were at 8.14 million units. You can read further analysis of Nintendo Switch sales here.
Nintendo 3DS title Fire Emblem Echoes: Shadows of Valentia was highlighted as being "popular" in Japan and overseas, but specific sales numbers for the game were not provided. The Nintendo 3DS hardware, meanwhile, was 950,000 units, representing a 1% increase over the same period in 2016. 3DS software sales were 5.85 million units, a year-on-year decrease of 31%.
Nintendo launched mobile titles Super Mario Run and Fire Emblem Heroes in its previous financial year and noted that "smart device and IP related income was around $80 million, which it says is a 450% year on year increase.
Looking ahead, Nintendo highlighted Splatoon 2, which is out now, and Super Mario Odyssey, which launches in October, as two of its key titles. The New Nintendo 2DS XL was also mentioned, alongside the releases of Pokemon Ultra Sun/Moon and Hey! Pikmin for that platform.
Of course, the eagerly-anticipated launch of the Super NES Classic Edition was also factored into its future performance, alongside "new [mobile] game applications and continued operations" of existing ones.
Ubisoft's pirates-themed naval warfare game Skull & Bones sounds like it won't be coming to Nintendo Switch. Creative director Justin Farren told GameSpot that Skull & Bones has a rich and beautiful world, something that might not be possible to replicate on Switch.
"Our world is pretty rich in terms of the world that we're bringing to life," Farren told GameSpot from developer Ubisoft Singapore's office this week. "We haven't really talked too much about the Switch, but if that becomes a reality then we would maximise the strengths of the Switch."
We also quizzed Farren about Microsoft's highly anticipated Xbox One X console, which comes out in November. He said he couldn't say much about Ubisoft's plan for the console, but he stressed that the company is platform-agnostic, so you can expect to see Ubisoft make the most of the super-powerful console.
"There's not too much I can say about any specific console, but I will say that we're targeting [PC and consoles]—every bit of the technical team is focused on making sure we maximise the strength of the consoles we're targeting," Farren explained. "So when you read about more memory or rendering, those are things we're leveraging.
"The platforms themselves—our approach is fairly agnostic. [We want to] make sure that if you own a particular platform , you feel like you're getting the best Skull & Bones experience possible."
Skull & Bones, which was announced at E3 in June, is an intriguing-looking naval warfare battle game where players try to sink their enemies in the Indian Ocean. Developer Ubisoft Singapore made the naval battle sequences in Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag. The studio has contributed to many Assassin's Creed games over the years as a co-developer; and it also made the canceled Ghost Recon: Phantoms. Skull & Bones is the studio's first title as a lead developer since then.
Keep checking back with GameSpot for lots more on Skull & Bones, including details on the narrative elements and more.
Pokemon Go will be getting two more legendary birds over the next few weeks: Moltres and Zapdos.

You can catch legendary Pokemon by participating in a Raid. See our guide for more details.
Pokemon Go just got its first legendary monsters very recently; Lugia and Articuno were added via an update after Pokemon Go Fest in Chicago last weekend. While the updates seem to have reinvigorated interest in the game, the festival itself was less well-recevied, ending with attendees receving full refunds and $100 in in-game credit.
Siblings: You can't live with them, you can't stab them in the head--unless it comes to that. The cast of Fear the Walking Dead know that even the healthiest family relationships can get complicated, especially during the zombie apocalypse, and they aired some family drama during a press conference over the weekend at San Diego Comic-Con.
"I think what's interesting is that you don't like each other," actor Daniel Sharman told Alycia Debnam-Carey and Frank Dillane, who play the sibling characters Alicia and Nick Clark.
"That's not true!" cried Debnam-Carey.
Sharman was referring the Alicia and Nick's complex sibling relationship. From Season 1 the Clark siblings have been at odds, but now they seem to have come to an understanding that they each need to do what they have to for survival.
Sharman didn't back down, explaining that he appreciates that the two characters' relationship isn't a typical television family interaction. "It's interesting, usually [on TV] it's quite a sappy relationship," he said, "and I think it's quite nice that it isn't that."
Fear the Walking Dead is the companion series to The Walking Dead. Premiering in 2015, it showed that the zombie outbreak wasn't just contained to one area in the world of The Walking Dead. The apocalypse reached far and wide--in this case to Southern California and into Mexico. After three and a half seasons Fear has held its own, creating interesting new stories with fresh new characters, diving into racial and morality issues, and most of all, portraying complex family relationships. The show stands out for its psychological depth and look at complicated opposing life philosophies.
The gloves came off all around during the press conference, as Sharman and Sam Underwood, who play Otto brothers Troy and Jake, spoke about their characters' interactions alongside the Clark siblings, and how the family bonds have seeped into the cast's relationships with one another.
"We shoot in a very remote location in Mexico," said Sharman. "I think what's really interesting is that you form these really amazing attachments to people very quickly, and that happens in the show. Human beings, it doesn't matter how crazily different they are, you will always form these tendrils and attachments to people."
Fear the Walking Dead has always been a little different from its sister show, The Walking Dead, in that these characters are blood-related families and that dynamic is sometimes more problematic than with families that come together out of necessity.
Jake and Troy have completely opposite leadership styles, one that begs comparison to the biblical siblings, Cain and Abel. Underwood gave his perspective on that. "There's also this struggle for power, the power dynamic between us and I think the idea of Nick connecting to Troy, and Alicia connecting to Jake, is a really interesting exploration of the two sets of siblings," he said. "Cain and Abel has definitely come up."
Brother-sister issues weren't the only topic of conversation during the press conference. After viewing the trailer for the second half of Season 3 trailer, GameSpot asked Kim Dickens and Colman Domingo about Madison and Strand's friendship, since we finally get to see them back together after the events of Season 2, when Strand decided to stay behind while Madison escaped. "Did it look like we were getting along?" Domingo teased.
"It's a really creative and surprising way that they reunite," said Dickens, not revealing any secrets. "And we're up to our old hijinks."
"What I think is very cool, too, with all these characters, we've been torn apart and now we've had some life lessons and it's interesting to see the way they come back," said Domingo. "Like watching Ofelia come back and how she's changed. She's a very different woman, that's what's happening with all of our characters, and it's really beautiful."
Moving into the second half of Fear the Walking Dead Season 3, the familial relationships are only going to get more complicated, as the characters are currently deep in the trenches of the apocalypse and now know what it takes to survive.
"I've recently looked back at Season 1 and the way we've evolved," Domingo reflected. "In the beginning we were just ordinary human beings and now we've been stripped down and had to scavenge and figure what we need, who we are, which I think is very interesting. I think we've all been becoming something else as we've been on this journey."
The fragmented group looks to be coming back together in a big way, and if the past is any indication, when they're all together things can get complicated. Even though the support of everyone will be necessary to face new challenges—dysfunctional or not—family has always been key in Fear the Walking Dead, and there's nothing like family having your back, especially in the apocalypse.
4K and HDR are terms that have been tossed around a lot lately, especially since the new consoles from Sony and Microsoft will support both features. But what are 4K and HDR, exactly? We provide all the important details in Q&A format down below.
4K
What is 4K?
In regards to consumer displays, 4K generally equates to a 3840x2160-resolution panel. This means the typical 4K screen will offer 3,840 horizontal pixels and 2,160 vertical pixels. When you multiply these numbers together, you get a panel with more than 8 million pixels. This is four times the pixel density of a traditional 1080p HD panel. See the math below:
3840x2160 = 8,294,400 pixels
1920x1080x4 = 8,294,400 pixels
The term 4K derived from the fact that the film industry reached a 4096x2160 resolution standard, which is a 1.9:1 aspect ratio, but since most home monitors and TVs use a 16:9 ratio, the resolution was scaled down to 3840x2160p, which is also commonly referred to as Ultra HD.
Why should I care about 4K?
Studies show that by 2020, the majority of US homes are expected to have a 4K-capable UHD TV.
In terms of picture quality, the increased resolution provides improved image clarity and sharpness. It also allows for larger panels, since 1080p screens stretched across a large surface will begin to look blurry with their low pixel density.
Do I need a 4K player to take advantage of 4K?
Yes. There are standalone 4K players, but gaming PCs with modern graphics cards will also be able to output to 4K as well. The Xbox One S can play 4K movies, but it doesn't have enough power to render 4K games. While the PlayStation 4 Pro is capable of running some games natively at 4K, many games use a checkerboard rendering shortcut. Microsoft asserts that its upcoming Project Scorpio console will be able to game at 4K.
Is there a lot of 4K content?
Most blockbuster movies moving forward will offer 4K Blu-ray discs, but UHD content on the Web is still a growing segment. 2160p video is becoming more widely available on streaming services like YouTube, Amazon, Vimeo, and Netflix. Certain high-profile 4K Netflix shows include Jessica Jones, Daredevil, and House of Cards.
What are the issues facing 4K?
Aside from the relatively small library of 4K content at the moment, you'll need a good Internet connection if you intend to stream 2160p video. In addition, because 4K is four times as sharp as 1080p, it can be graphically demanding for gaming.
HDR
What is HDR?
HDR stands for high dynamic range. You might have heard the term as it pertains to cameras, but when it comes to display technology, it's actually somewhat different.
Samsung showcases HDR on its TVs.
When cameras are shooting in HDR, they're typically taking multiple exposures to highlight the dark and light information in a scene. From there, processing is used to combine the exposures into one picture to deliver a balanced image that's more representative of how we, as humans, perceive light and color.
HDR on TVs also aims to represent colors in a more realistic way, but instead of using image processing to combine exposures together, it simply uses panels that offer a much wider color gamut compared to standard RGB TVs.
According to Nvidia, HDR can expand the color gamut by a factor of two, which amounts to roughly 75 percent of the visible color spectrum.
Why should I care about HDR?
In terms of image quality, HDR increases the contrast between blacks and whites over traditional RGB displays. This means whites will look super bright, and blacks will look very dark. Colors will also look much more lush and vibrant. For instance, onscreen fire effects will look much "warmer," and images will, in general, have a little more pop. It's a technology that's arguably more noticeable than the upgrade from 1080p to 4K.
Do all 4K TVs support HDR?
No. While many HDR TVs will feature a 4K panel, not all 4K TVs will support HDR. They're separate technologies. Having said that, HDR pairs very well with 2160p and makes good use of the greater pixel density to create a more dynamic, richer image.
What will I need to enable HDR?
Aside from an HDR-capable TV, you'll need an HDR-capable player and HDR content (this goes for movies and games). In terms of consoles, Microsoft's Xbox One S supports HDR, and Sony eventually pushed out an HDR update to existing PS4s. In addition, the PS4 Pro also supports HDR, though it doesn't have a 4K/Blu-ray HDR optical drive like the Xbox One S. Microsoft's upcoming Project Scorpio console will also support HDR. In order to get HDR working, you'll need an HDMI 2.0 cable.
Is there a lot of HDR content?
Not at the moment. HDR content is still in a state of infancy, even compared to 4K, but both Amazon Prime Instant Video and Netflix are working to incorporate more HDR video content. Some of Netflix's existing, prominent HDR content includes its own Marco Polo and Daredevil shows.
Older movies and games can also be remastered to support HDR. For instance, Sony recently revealed that Uncharted 4: A Thief's End will eventually receive an HDR update.
Are OLED TVs the same as HDR TVs?
Not necessarily. OLED TVs offer deep black levels (with each pixel serving as its own light source) and can be HDR-capable, but since they're not backlit in the same way that popular LED TVs are, they're not generally as bright. This means they can fail to meet HDR's 1,000 nit brightness requirements. In order for an OLED TV to meet HDR's requirements, it needs to have more than 540 nits of brightness and less than .0005 nits of black level.
How can I know if I'm buying an HDR TV?
The UHD Alliance was formed to create standards for HDR TVs. One standard is based on whether or not a TV can reach a certain peak brightness, measured in nits. The other standard, which is more popular for dimmer OLED TVs, is for the panel to meet a certain contrast ratio between blacks and whites.
To know whether or not the UHD Alliance has certified a TV as HDR-complaint, look for the Ultra HD Premium label.
It was just a matter of time before Playerunknown's Battlegrounds got its first big esports tournament. The buzz around the game has only grown since its Early Access release in March, and now that dedicated players have had a chance to master it, it's a good time for a competition. Today, developer Bluehole and the ESL have announced the PUBG Invitational, which will take place next month at the Gamescom conference.
Esports have traditionally been dominated by relatively standard solo or team matches: 1v1, 2v2, etc. Each match of PUBG, on the other hand, features up to 100 players in a free-for-all, all attempting to outlast the others.
This requires a relatively unusual tournament format for the PUBG Invitational. It'll feature 80 players who play in a three-game set to determine the winner. There'll be competitions in all the modes: solo, duo, first-person duo, and squad.
The Invitational will, not surprisingly, have a pretty decent prize pool. Bluehole stated that the prize pool totals $350,000, and the developer will also be selling cosmetic items to the general public to fund the prize pool and event organization, and to give to charities. These items will come in the form of an in-game crate that you can buy for $2.50, which will include several themed items. You can see them below.
The tournament takes place from August 23-26 in Cologne, Germany. It'll be broadcast starting at 7 AM PT / 10 AM ET / 3 PM BST on Bluehole's social media channels.

Sony's PlayStation Vue TV service has steadily expanded both its programming and its regional availability over the past couple of years, and today it received a big addition in the form of a new, sports-centric package.
Vue subscribers can now watch all the sports analysis they can handle by purchasing the new tier. For $10/month (on top of the Vue subscription cost), you get access to NFL RedZone, MLB Strike Zone, regional networks, and other channels. You can see the full list below.
Personally, having grown up a fan of University of Texas sports, I'm particularly pleased with the inclusion of the Longhorn Network. It's somewhat difficult and costly to tack on extras such as that to a normal cable TV plan, since cable companies don't often offer small bundles like this.
The Sports Pack can be added on to the Core ($45/month), Elite ($55/month), or Ultra ($75/month) tiers. It cannot be added to the Access plan ($40/month).
One of the biggest surprises to come out of Nintendo's E3 2017 showing was Metroid: Samus Returns, the first side-scrolling installment in the series since 2004's Zero Mission for Game Boy Advance. The game is slated to arrive for 3DS this September, and alongside it, Nintendo is releasing a brand-new pair of Amiibo figures. Today, the company finally revealed what these and the existing figures unlock in the game.
On Nintendo UK's official website, Nintendo detailed the different extras players can unlock using the various Metroid figures. Tapping the new Samus Amiibo during the game unlocks a reserve Aeion tank, which will automatically restore a certain amount of Aeion energy after players run out. After the game has been completed, the Samus figure unlocks a Metroid II art gallery. Similarly, the Samus Amiibo from the Super Smash Bros. line unlocks a reserve Missile tank, as well as a concept art gallery once the game has been beaten. The Zero Suit Samus figure, meanwhile, unlocks a reserve Energy tank and a music gallery.
The neatest bonus, however, comes from the new, squishy Metroid Amiibo. Tapping the figure reveals the location of nearby Metroids on your map--a handy feature to have as the entire plot revolves around Samus's mission to eradicate every last Metroid. Once players have completed the game, it also unlocks a new difficulty setting called Fusion mode. In addition to being more challenging, the new mode decks the bounty hunter out in the blue-and-yellow Fusion suit from the series' first Game Boy Advance installment, Metroid Fusion.
Netflix has no shortage of new series and movies on the way, but among the most noteworthy is a show called Disenchantment. In addition to featuring an excellent voice cast, it comes from Matt Groening, the creator of The Simpsons and Futurama.
Disenchantment is described as an "adult animated comedy fantasy series" set in a medieval kingdom called Dreamland, where things haven't been going well. It centers around "the misadventures of hard-drinking young princess Bean, her feisty elf companion Elfo, and her personal demon Luci. Along the way, the oddball trio will encounter ogres, sprites, harpies, imps, trolls, walruses, and lots of human fools," according to Netflix.
"Ultimately, Disenchantment will be about life and death, love and sex, and how to keep laughing in a world full of suffering and idiots, despite what the elders and wizards and other jerks tell you," Groening said in a press release.
Bean is played by Abbi Jacobson (Broad City), while Luci is voiced by Eric Andre (The Eric Andre Show) and Elfo is voiced by Nat Faxon (The Cleveland Show). Other cast members include John DiMaggio, Billy West, Maurice LaMarche, Tress MacNeille, David Herman, Matt Berry, Jeny Batten, Rich Fulcher, Noel Fielding, and Lucy Montgomery.
Netflix has ordered 20 episodes of Disenchantment, the first 10 of which will debut at the same time in 2018. Groening will serve as an executive producer alongside Josh Weinstein, who has previously served as a writer on producer on Groening's shows, as well as writing episodes of Brickleberry and Gravity Falls. Rough Draft Studios, which did the animation for Futurama, will take the reins on Disenchantment.
