Virtual reality provides a wealth of new opportunities for gaming, film, and social networking, but one of its main drawbacks is that the headsets must be tethered to either a PC or a phone. High-powered headsets like the Oculus Rift and HTC Vive require a bulky cord running to a powerful PC, while the Samsung Gear VR needs a smartphone to work. However, Oculus and its parent company Facebook are reportedly working on a solution to that problem: a $200 wireless, standalone headset.
As reported by Bloomberg, the headset is meant to be a cheaper alternative to the high-end headsets. Facebook intends to bridge the gap between the budget Gear VR and the more expensive Rift; the new headset will need neither phone nor PC.
It's currently codenamed "Pacific" and has a similar design to the Rift. It will be lighter than the Gear VR and is meant to be highly portable. The report states that it'll be controlled with a wireless remote, and it'll be geared toward playing games, watching movies, and social networking. Oculus is making it more powerful than the Gear VR, but the Rift will still be the only headset with position tracking.
The Destiny 2 beta goes live next week, but starting today you can pre-load it on PS4 or Xbox One. If you redeem your code today, you can download the beta so that you can jump right in when it begins.
If you preorder the game, you'll receive a code to redeem on Bungie.net. This allows you to get a code for the platform of your choice. You can then download the entire file to your system, although you won't be able to access it until the beta begins.
Destiny 2's beta takes up quite a bit of space. PS4 players will need 15 GB of free space on their hard drives, while Xbox One players will need 12.8 GB.
The beta test opens to those who preorder the game on July 18 for PS4 players and July 19 for Xbox One players. Everyone else can jump in starting July 21. The beta runs through July 23. A beta for PC players is also coming, although Bungie says that it will begin in late August. You can check out what's included in the beta here.

At E3 2017, we got a new, extended look at the upcoming zombie-killing action game, Days Gone. Sony showed off a lengthy demo at its E3 press conference, which gave us a glimpse of the game's brutal combat and stealth mechanics. Today, Sony released an alternate playthrough of that demo that demonstrates the different weather, time of day, and gameplay methods that the game will offer.
In the demo, main character Deacon St. John rides his motorcycle through a wintry Pacific Northwest. You can clearly see how the world changes depending on the time of the year; in the original video, Deacon explores a much more summery, lush world. In addition, the game's creative director and the voice actor for Deacon discuss the different ways of approaching the game. Check it out above.
This alternate-path demo was first shown behind closed doors at E3; GameSpot was able to check it out back then, and you can read our impressions of it here.
In my opinion, it's always encouraging to see the ways that open-world games change up gameplay. Days Gone is looking like it'll present many different takes on the same scenarios, while also giving you a pretty interesting world to roam around in.
Days Gone still doesn't have a solid release date, but it's a good bet that it'll come sometime next year. It'll feature enhancements for PS4 Pro, although the nature of them is still unknown. In the meantime, you can watch our interview with developer Sony Bend here.
Switch owners still have one more week to wait for the console's next major release, Splatoon 2, but they have a few new options to play in the interim. This week, five more titles have been added to the Switch Eshop, while a few notable demos are available to download as well on 3DS.
As usual, one of the new Switch games is an ACA Neo Geo classic. This time, it's Fatal Fury Special, and like other Neo Geo releases, it retails on the Eshop for $8/£6.29. This particular game is an upgraded version of Fatal Fury 2, featuring faster game speed, combo attacks, and a roster of 15 fighters. Fatal Fury Special is also available to download today on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
This week also sees the simple and stylish party brawler De Mambo arrive on Switch. The game costs $13/£10 and allows up to four players to battle against one another with only a Joy-Con each. Players use a single button to charge up attacks and ram their foes through destructible stages and off the screen. The game also features a cooperative survival mode and over 70 single-player levels.
The rest of the new releases are largely comprised of intriguing indie puzzlers. Death Squared ($15/£12) is a cooperative puzzle game in which one, two, or four players must guide robots through hazard-laden stages; I and Me ($10) is a puzzle platformer that challenges players with controlling two cats simultaneously through side-scrolling levels; and the straightforwardly-named Levels+: Addictive Puzzle Game ($7) has players sliding and matching panels to level them up and defeat other panels in their way. You can see screenshots of each above.
On the 3DS front, handheld players have two new demos to download from the Eshop. This week, Nintendo has released trial versions of the Mii-based RPG Miitopia and the side-scrolling Pikmin spinoff Hey! Pikmin. This is a good chance to try out the two titles before they both launch on July 28.
While Splatoon 2 may not be available for another week, Switch owners can still try the game a little early by downloading the Splatfest World Premiere demo. The demo lets players participate in Splatoon 2's first Splatfest event, which takes place this Saturday, July 15, from 3-7 PM ET / 6-9 PM PT for US players and 5-9 PM BST for those in the UK.
The video was tweeted as promotion for the Blu-ray release of Kong: Skull Island, which is also part of Legendary's interconnected MonsterVerse. It shows the discoveries made by the franchise's shady Monarch Corporation, including a three-headed superspecies found in the Antarctic. Check it out below:

Godzilla 2 will be third movie in the MonsterVerse, following 2014's Godzilla and Skull Island, which was released in March this year. Although the movie was previously titled Godzilla: King of Monsters, the synopsis that was released by Legendary last month did not use that title, implying that it might change.
The synopsis read: "The new story follows the heroic efforts of the crypto-zoological agency Monarch as its members face off against a battery of god-sized monsters, including the mighty Godzilla, who collides with Mothra, Rodan, and his ultimate nemesis, the three-headed King Ghidorah. When these ancient super-species--thought to be mere myths--rise again, they all vie for supremacy, leaving humanity's very existence hanging in the balance."
Godzilla 2 will be directed by Michael Dougherty, and stars Vera Farmiga, Bradley Whitford, Thomas Middleditch, Sally Hawkins, Charles Dance, plus Stranger Things star Millie Bobby Brown. It hits theaters on March 22, 2019.
Gran Turismo Sport--the first game in the series on PS4--is coming out on October 17 (October 18 in Europe and Australia), publisher Sony has announced. The company revealed the news in a new EU trailer, which you can watch above.
Sony said recently that the racing title would launch this fall, but this is the first time we've had a concrete date since its delay from 2016. Today's announcement follows the completion of the long-running closed beta, which finished earlier this week. That's not the last you'll see of it before launch, however; Sony says a full reveal of the cars and tracks included is coming soon. In the meantime, check out the game's box art--including images of the Day One, Steelbook, and Collector's Editions--below.
We played the latest iteration of Gran Turismo Sport at E3 2017, and you can check out our early impressions here. Elsewhere at the event, Sony confirmed GT Sport will run at 4K and 60 FPS on PS4 Pro, which will also get HDR support.
The racer is exclusive to PS4 and is being developed to support PlayStation VR, though it will not feature dynamic time or weather. The decision to drop these two features, which were key to the series, was made "in order to raise the frame rate and the quality of the image." Players will still be able to set time and weather before the start of a race.
Gran Turismo Sport is the first in the popular series since 2013's Gran Turismo 6, which was a PlayStation 3 exclusive. In our review, critic Joseph Barron said the racer possessed a "lack of vision" but that it "remains a fantastic simulation." For more, check out our full Gran Turismo 6 review.
Fortnite, the team shooter from Gears of War creator Epic Games, launches later this month, and now the publisher has revealed the game's full Achievement/Trophy list to GameSpot.
The survival game will have 46 Trophies in total (including one platinum). To earn them, you'll mostly have to do standard stuff such as complete missions and challenges, loot chests, and craft items. Take a look at the full list at the bottom of this article.
When GameSpot's Peter Brown played Fortnite he found himself won over by the game. "Epic seems to have done the impossible: it's managed to make a game about gathering and crafting appealing to me, someone who typically avoids games built on similar foundations," he said in his Fortnite preview.

The first appearance of Black Panther was one of the highlights of last year's Captain America: Civil War, and expectations are high for the character's standalone Marvel movie next year. The latest issue of Entertainment Weekly reveals plot and character details about the movie, as well as a host of new images.
The images can be viewed over at EW--they are mostly set in Black Panther's homeland of Wakanda, and highlight the film's striking costume and set design. They also feature many of the cast, including Chadwick Boseman, who plays the title role, Michael B. Jordan (Creed), Danai Gurira (The Walking Dead), Lupita Nyong'o (Star Wars: The Force Awakens), Andy Serkis (War for the Planet of the Apes), Martin Freeman (The Hobbit), and Forest Whitaker (Star Wars: Rogue One).
The site also reveals new details about some of the characters. Serkis returns as mercenary Ulysses Klawto, a role he played in Avengers: Age of Ultron, while Jordan plays Black Panther's villainous adversary Erik Killmonger. In addition, Nyong'o is an undercover operative called Nakia and Whittaker plays a shaman known as Zuri.
In an interview that accompanies the pictures, producer Nate Moore suggests that Black Panther will be very different from most modern superhero films. "What I think we landed on was sort of a cross between James Bond and The Godfather," he said. "A big, operatic family drama centered on a world of international espionage. So hopefully we're getting the best of both worlds."
The first Black Panther trailer was released last month--check it out here. The movie hits theaters on February 16, 2018.
Ni no Kuni II: Revenant Kingdom's release date has been delayed from November 10, 2017 to January 19, 2018, publisher Bandai Namco has announced. In a statement, Akihiro Hino, chief executive of game developer Level-5, offered his apology and said the extra time is required in order to "deliver the full Ni no Kuni 2 experience."
"I deeply apologize to those who have been looking forward to the game's release. Please rest assured, however, that we will continue to strive to provide a deep and satisfying single player experience that our fans can look forward to enjoying," he added.
Speaking in a video message, which you can watch above, Hino also clarified a misunderstanding regarding Ni no Kuni 2's multiplayer content. During an interview at E3 a misinterpretation resulted in the suggestion that the game would include multiplayer components, but this isn't the case.
"Ni no Kuni 2 will not have multiplayer content," he said. "I misunderstood the interview question, thinking it was asking about online content in general and my answer referred to online announcement of in-game events. As a result of this, I wrongly gave the impression that the game features multiplayer content."
Ni no Kuni 2 will be available on PlayStation 4. Earlier this year, it was announced that Ni no Kuni II would also launch on PC, which is a first for the series.
One of the Nintendo DS and 3DS's most popular features was Download Play, the ability to play locally with your friends using just one copy of a select number of games. Titles such as New Super Mario Bros., Mario Kart DS, The Legend of Zelda: Tri Force Heroes, and Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon all allowed you to play multiplayer by transferring data directly from one console to another. Right now, Download Play is not supported on Nintendo Switch, but Bandai Namco has got around that in a rather unique way.
In the upcoming game compilation Namco Museum, up to four players (two on each Switch console) can play Pac-Man Vs. using just one copy of the game. According to Bandai Namco, the Switch owner who doesn't own Namco Museum simply downloads a free Eshop app called Pac-Man Vs. (Free Multiplayer-only Version). The publisher confirmed to GameSpot that this allows the two Switch consoles to play together locally, without internet connection.
While this isn't quite as elegant as the system-level implementation seen on the DS and 3DS, it shows at least that a solution is possible. Hopefully, this will lead to more Switch games incorporating features that allow local play on multiple consoles using just one copy of a game. Of course, the Switch's two Joy-Cons allow another form of local multiplayer on the same Switch console in some games, and Mario Kart 8: Deluxe uses this to great effect. However, fewer buttons being available on one Joy-Con than two means some other titles might be limited in functionality, as is seen in FIFA 18 on Switch.
Namco Museum launches on July 28 in Europe and North America, priced at $30. It also includes a number of other games, complete with online leaderboards (which Pac-Man Vs. does not support). You can see a trailer above and a full list of announced games below:
Nintendo has announced that production of the New 3DS has ended in Japan. An update on the official Nintendo Japan website indicates that white, black, and limited edition models of the base New 3DS are no longer being manufactured. The 2DS, New 2DS XL, and New 3DS XL pages do not display the same message.
It is unclear what this means for the western 3DS lineup. The Nintendo US Store currently has no standard New 3DS systems listed, while the UK Store only shows remaining stock of limited edition bundles. GameSpot has contacted Nintendo for comment.
The news comes on the same day Nintendo launched another addition to the 3DS family of systems in Japan. The New 2DS XL came out today, July 13, over there and is already available in Australia and New Zealand. It's coming to the US and Europe on July 28, priced at US $150 / £130 / AU $200.
"The Nintendo 2DS really focused on that entry level gamer," he said. "The four-, five-, six-year old that is just getting into gaming, but wants to play Mario Kart, wants to have a Super Mario Bros. experience, wants to play Pokemon. And we feel with Nintendo 3DS XL at $199 that it's a fully-featured product, that it is, if you will, the Cadillac of handheld gaming. And then we heard from consumers, 'Boy, I wish there was something in between.'"
Blizzard has released a new update for Overwatch on the PC-only Public Test Realm, introducing a variety of tweaks to McCree, Reaper, Reinhardt, Zarya, and Doomfist, the newest character to join the game.
Arguably the most significant change is for Zarya's ultimate ability, the Graviton Surge. When launched it now disables "all movement abilities" of the enemy characters caught within it, much like Junkrat's trap. This means that characters like Tracer will no longer be able to teleport out of the gravitational pull, which in turn makes Graviton Surge significantly more effective.
McCree, meanwhile, will now slow targets hit with his Flashbang, making it harder for them to escape around a corner or behind cover and leaving them open to his gunfire for a little longer. Take a look at the full list of new PTR changes below.
It's important to note that these changes are currently in testing on the PTR and may not necessarily be transferred over to the proper game. Since they're experimental, the changes could be tweaked or even removed completely.
Doomfist
Rocket Punch: Total distance traveled reduced by about 20% (This change has been on the PTR for a little while now)
Seismic Slam: Added a new UI indicator to show how much damage it will deal, and how much it dealt. Previously this was only indicated by the default crosshair filling in, but this is only visible when using the default crosshair. The new indicator should always be visible, regardless of any crosshair changes. Also, targeting this ability while in the air is now restricted to locations lower than your current height
McCree
Flashbang: Now slows targets significantly when they are stunned. This makes them less likely to slide away around a corner or something similar once they are stunned
Reaper
Shadow Step: VO and SFX distance dramatically reduced
Reinhardt
Hammer: Swing speed increased by ~10%. On top of the swing speed increase, we've gone through and tweaked many timings and other things about the Hammer to make it more responsive. Overall it should feel a lot better to swing and make contact with enemies.
Charge: Impacting another charging hero (Doomfist or Reinhardt) no longer deals damage to both characters, but still causes a knockdown on both
Zarya
Graviton Surge: Now disables all movement abilities of affect targets. This is similar to how Junkrat's trap affects abilities
It was recently reported that episodes in Game of Thrones' final season, Season 8, could each be feature-length. Now, HBO's programming boss, Casey Bloys, has confirmed that the network has no plans to air the episodes in theaters.
Asked by The Hollywood Reporter if he would rule out a theatrical release for the eighth season, Bloys bluntly said, "I would." He added, "This is for subscribers," referencing that only HBO subscribers will be able to watch Game of Thrones.
It wouldn't have been totally unusual for Game of Thrones to play in movie theaters, as some people got to see the Season 6 premiere in a theater, according to EW.
As for when Season 8 will air, Bloys said he cannot speculate as to whether it will be in 2018 or 2019, or sometime later.
"All I will tell you is it is obviously a very ambitious season. This is the culmination of eight seasons of fantastic storytelling," he said. "They are writing, and they need to look at the production schedule, and we will take their lead in terms of the airdate that works best for them. They don't even know; they are still putting the season together. And as you can imagine, it's a very complicated show to produce, so it's not like putting together a production schedule for a sitcom that shoots on the stage. It shoots all over the world and takes a long time to figure out where, when and how to shoot. So they're in the process of doing that, and they'll let us know."
There will only be six episodes in Season 8, but as mentioned, they are expected to be longer than episodes in past seasons, so the total runtime may not be all that different.
Deadline reports (via NeoGAF) that among Hollywood producer Akiva Goldsman's projects is a Rainbow Six film that could star Deadpool's Ryan Reynolds.
Sources told the site that there have been "loose conversations" about having Reynolds play the former Navy SEAL John Clark from Tom Clancy's Jack Ryan series.
The Rainbow Six video game series is produced by Ubisoft, and it would follow that Ubisoft's own Ubisoft Motion Pictures group would have a hand in producing the film. In February 2014, Ubisoft announced that it had six movies based on its franchises in the pipeline, covering Rabbids, Assassin's Creed, Watch Dogs, Splinter Cell, Far Cry, and Ghost Recon. The Assassin's Creed movie, starring Michael Fassbender, came out last year.
Bear in mind that is sounds like it's still very early days for the Rainbow Six movie. There is no word yet on who might direct, what the cast would be, or when it would premiere. Keep checking back with GameSpot for the latest.
HBO is working on as many as five pilots for Game of Thrones prequels, and now we know a little more about what the network is hoping to achieve by working on so many. Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, HBO programming boss Casey Bloys started off by saying the network is "incredibly fortunate" that Game of Thrones is popular and acclaimed enough for fans to be clamoring for even more. Considering how popular the show is, Bloys said it would be "insane" to not at least think about making more of it.
"Truly I think it will go down as one of the best shows in the history of television," Bloys said. "It would be insane for a network not to at least entertain the idea of a successor shows--I was going to say 'prequel' but they're not spinoffs because there are no existing characters going off the flagship. It's not Laverne & Shirley from Happy Days; they are prequels," he said. "But it would be insane--with a universe like [author Georg R.R. Martin] has created that is so vast and has so many characters and so many timelines--to not, at least, entertain the idea, which is what we're doing."
The reason why HBO is working on multiple Game of Thrones projects is because it increases the odds of finding something that can be as good as the main show.
"So the idea was, if we're going to try it, let's take a couple of shots and see," he said. "My hope is at least one lives up to the level of quality [showrunners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss] have set," Bloys explained.
The executive also cautioned that it is still very early days for the new Game of Thrones shows. He said he has not even seen an outline for the shows yet, as he is understandably more focused now on Game of Thrones Seasons 7 and 8.
"You're not going to see a situation where we're launching a prequel on the back of the final season," Bloys said. "The final season is going to be its own event. It's going to be a big deal for us and the fans. I'm not interested in using it to launch any other show. We mentioned the spinoffs because obviously there's a lot of interest in them, but it's a very embryonic process, and you know how development goes--it can be a long process.
"We confirmed their existence because there was a lot of interest, but it's not something that we are fast-tracking to get done to air immediately after the final season. I'm guessing fans will need some time to decompress from how amazing the final season is."
It will be a "good long while" before any Game of Thrones prequels air, if they ever do, Bloys said.
The NicoNico platform, which resembles YouTube in some ways, will come to the Japanese Nintendo Switch eShop later this week in Japan. However, as Eurogamer explains, people in other regions can download it if they have a Japanese Switch account.
In March, Nintendo executive Reggie Fils-Aime said the company is in discussions with Netflix, Hulu, and Amazon to bring their streaming services to Switch...eventually. Those services are not available yet because Nintendo wanted the launch to be all about games.
Additionally, the Switch does not have a web browser, though, like the streaming apps, this feature might be added over time.
David Ayer, who directed the box office smash Suicide Squad and was in line to direct a Scarface remake for Universal, has left the film, multiple reports said today. According to The Hollywood Reporter's sources, Ayer's script was "too dark" for Universal's liking.
Anything bearing the name Scarface is sure to be a dark affair, so it's interesting to think about the direction Ayer might have been going for Universal to put the brakes on it. Ayer seemed a good fit for Scarface, as he made the similarly dark and violent films like Training Day, which he wrote, and his directing of End of Watch.
According to THR, Hell or High Water director David MacKenzie and Patriots Day and Lone Survivor director Peter Berg were among those also "circling" the Scarface remake.
Star Wars: Rogue One actor Diego Luna will reportedly play the lead in the Scarfcae remake. The new movie will take place in modern-day Los Angeles, focusing on a Mexican immigrant, played by Luna. The 1932 original and the 1983 version starring Al Pacino also told immigrant stories, though those movies took place in Chicago and Miami, respectively.
The new Scarface movie is scheduled to hit theaters on August 10, 2018.
Prototype developer Radical Entertainment released Scarface: The World Is Yours in 2006, which served as a follow-up to the 1983 movie. No plans for any new games have been announced, however.
Matt Reeves, who is directing the upcoming standalone Batman movie, has revealed that he's not using the script that Ben Affleck wrote alongside Chris Terrior and Geoff Johns. As relayed by THR, speaking on the latest Happy Sad Confused podcast with MTV's Josh Horowitz, Reeves said, "No, it's a new story. It's just starting again."
Affleck himself was also previously attached to direct The Batman, but he later dropped out and was replaced by Reeves. At the time, it was unknown if Reeves would keep Affleck and company's script, and now we know he won't. It's possible some elements are retained, but from the sound of it, Reeves is basically re-writing it.
Affleck is still involved in The Batman, of course, as he's starring in it as the Caped Crusader. Reeves has said his vision for The Batman is to tell a "very emotional Batman story." Reeves has also said that he wants The Batman to be a "noir-driven, detective-version" of the Caped Crusader.
As THR mentions, Affleck will appear at San Diego Comic-Con next week for a Justice League panel. You can bet someone will ask him about The Batman.
Reeves' next movie is War for the Planet of the Apes, which hits theaters this weekend.
What would you like to see from The Batman? Let us know in the comments below!
When Microsoft announced the Xbox One X back in 2016, when it was known as Project Scorpio, the company said the super-powerful console was VR-ready. Microsoft didn't announce any VR plans for the console at this year's E3, and it sounds like we might not learn more about this anytime soon.
Speaking to GameSpot, Microsoft general manager Dave McCarthy said the company is purposefully focusing on PC right now for its VR and AR ambitions. Console will come later, it seems.
"Our focus right now is admittedly on the PC space," McCarthy said. "So we look at Windows 10, we see an open ecosystem for developers. We see a huge installed base of half a billion monthly active devices on Windows 10. And we say that feels like the right area of focus right now [for VR/AR]."
McCarthy went on to say that VR hasn't yet found a "killer experience" that communicates the novelty of VR to a wide audience. This isn't a problem per se, he said.
"I would say developers are still finding their way to define the killer experience there, which is great at this point in its evolution overall," McCarthy said. "We believe in it enough that we have several of our first-party studios actually working on content for our Windows 10 devices. We'll have more to talk about later this year on that."
Earlier this year, the Xbox website removed mention of virtual reality support for Xbox One X. Microsoft later clarified that the console will still offer "high-fidelity VR experiences," though it declined to say why mention was removed from the site or when or how console owners can expect to play VR on Xbox One X.
Sony's PlayStation 4 offers VR support through the PlayStation VR headset. It remains to be seen how VR would work on Xbox One X, whether it be through Microsoft's own HoloLens device or via a third-party device like Oculus Rift, or something else entirely.
In November of last year, Xbox boss Phil Spencer said he thinks VR will eventually "find its spot" in gaming--but it might not be soon. "We designed Scorpio as a VR-capable console. Whether that happens this year, next year, or the year after…"
"I don't think the creators in the game space have yet found--well, they haven't obviously perfected the craft of building VR games," Spencer added. "It's so early; I think we're a couple of years before we'll really see that hit mainstream."
The Xbox One X launches in November, priced at $500 in the US. Check out the video above to get a closer look at the system and learn about its specs.
The latest installment in Conan O'Brien's Clueless Gamer segment has arrived. In this latest silly video, the late night TV host and comedian plays the gorgeous Xbox One and PC indie game Cuphead alongside supermodel Kate Upton.
As you can imagine, this clip is not entirely about video games.
Cuphead was first shown during Microsoft's E3 press conference back in 2014; it immediately caught people's attention thanks to its visual style, which resembles that of 1930s-era cartoons. The project has since expanded in scope, and at this year's E3, we finally got a release date: It's due out on September 29. It supports Xbox Play Anywhere, allowing you to buy a digital copy on PC or Xbox One and access it on both platforms.
This is the first Clueless Gamer video since June's episode about Nintendo's fighting game Arms. The funny spot featured actor Will Arnett alongside Conan--watch it here.
The Surge, the next game from Lords of the Fallen co-developer Deck 13, is coming next week to PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, the studio has announced. If you're playing on PS4 Pro, you'll see benefits such as HDR, dynamic 4K resolution, and 60FPS in 1080p mode, the developer said on Twitter.
There is no word yet on exactly when the demo will launch or what it will contain (via DualShockers). We also don't know if there will be any updates or support for Xbox One X when that console comes out in November. We'll report back with more details as they become available.
The Surge launched in May for PS4, Xbox One, and PC, and GameSpot's review scored it a 7/10. "It bucks the trend towards creative bankruptcy, adopting some fresh ideas and layering those together with aesthetics, tone, and play to create an inspired adventure," reviewer Daniel Starkey said.
A patch released this week added a number of tweaks and bug fixes, along with new customization options such as a FOV slider. One of the fixes is for a problem where a player could die when opening a security door, so it's a good thing that one's fixed.
Allow early evading by default. This will enable the player to cancel attack animation in pre-hit phase and long combo chains by using evade, should they have enough stamina.
Fixes:
No longer end the hit/staggered state on a hit that doesn't interrupt the character.
Fixed a crash related to pathfinding in some enemies.
The MG Judge v2.0 is no longer able to hit through walls.
Equipping the ATLAS Power Core will now work properly in NG+. In rare cases, the player could not level up any longer because the Power Core could not be equipped properly.
Defence values will now scale properly through NG+ and beyond for undirected attacks.
Reward pop-ups will no longer be carried over from previous games when starting/loading a new game.
Fixed an issue that could lead to the player's death in rare cases when opening security doors.
Fixed a crash that could happen when attacking PAX in the security captain boss fight while its AI is inactive.
Capped the core power requirement for unlocking new implant slots at level 125.
Properly updated the UI FX state when switching between injectables that do (not) require energy to use
"Drone Skill Ready" will now properly display at the correct times.
No longer display an error message when using the kill switch.
Fixed an issue that would cause the destruction of upgraded weapons when removing duplicates from the inventory.
Raised the volume of the PAX sounds when stunned.
Security Heavy NPCs will no longer try to attack you if there's a fence between you. They will now go around the fence.
Sound now plays properly when hitting the base of the Assembly boss.
Board room door in management will now properly open.
Fixed a missing pipe in Materials Processing.

Project Cars 2 is coming out in September for consoles and PC, and now, developer Slightly Mad Studios has announced all of the tracks and cars featured in the game.
Starting with the tracks, there are 60 in all, which Slightly Mad says represents the "largest track roster on console" ever. The courses are from all around the world, including North America and Europe.
In a blog post, Slightly Mad said the tracks were "carefully chosen to reflect the 9 motorsport disciplines and 29 series that come with Project Cars 2."
Additionally, the courses will be affected by four seasons of weather, as well as transitions from day to night. Drivers will also have to contend with the elements, as ice, snow, mist, wind, and rain will all bear down on the courses.
As for the cars, another blog post from Slightly Mad confirms that there will be 180 in all in the game. Each of them has been "faithfully built to exacting standards," the developer said, adding that car manufacturers have signed off on the game's designs. Not only that, but real-world drivers have even tested the cars to ensure their authenticity.
The cars are broken down by category, including Road Cars, one of which is the nice-looking and super-fast 2017 McLaren 720S. There are Vintage Prototype cars such as the 1967 Ford GT40 MK IV and the 1965 Lotus Type 40 Ford. Project Cars 2 will also have Open Wheel and IndyCar vehicles available.
Mario Kart Arcade GP VR is in the the works for Japanese arcades, and a new video for it has us wishing it was coming to other parts of the world too.
The video below posted by 4GamerMovie (via NintendoEverything) shows off familiar Mario Kart racing action but from a new and cool-looking perspective. This VR version of Mario Kart puts you in the kart itself. And it looks much more intense. Piranha plants are chomping down directly on you and it's cool to see a banana or green shell from the first-person perspective. Also, it gives a new sense of scale when you're looking up at the castle or other objects. Here's the video:
UploadVR reports that Mario Kart GP VR is made possible using the HTC Vive headset. The video below provides a closer look at how the game works and the tech behind it.
Blizzard updated the Overwatch PTR on PC today to add progression for the new character Doomfist. "You're impressed. That's natural," Blizzard said in a quoted tweet.

With the highly anticipated seventh season of Game of Thrones now just days away from its July 16 premiere, HBO today released official shows from the first episode.
The images show off characters such as Brienne, Daenerys, Dolorous Edd, and Lyanna Mormont, among others, visiting various places in Westeros. You can see all the images here at Entertainment Weekly.
The first episode of Season 7, Dragonstone, airs this Sunday, July 16, on HBO. The official description reads: "Jon (Kit Harington) organizes the defense of the North. Cersei (Lena Headey) tries to even the odds. Daenerys (Emilia Clarke) comes home."
There will be seven episodes in Game of Thrones Season 7, which is fewer than normal. The eighth and final season will be even shorter in terms of episode count at six, though they may run longer. There's no release date for Season 8 yet.
You read that right: the gritty, dark, and brutal action game was used to make a video paralleling Odyssey's trailer. There couldn't be two more different games, and because of that, the video is hilarious. Check it out below, from user JellyElite~ and originally reported by Polygon.
The creator used a Mario hat mod, which you can download yourself through the link in the description of the video. You can also see the original trailer here.
For the first time, the Destiny series is coming to PC with this year's Destiny 2. And it's going to be a huge hit, according to a new report. SuperData Research today put out a release in which it claims Destiny 2 will sell between 4 and 5 million digital units on PC within its first three months on sale.
To formulate its forecast, the research company said it "evaluated the performance of Destiny 1 on both console and PC and how it compared to other AAA titles that launched during the same time period." (We've followed up with SuperData to clarify the bit about Destiny 1 on PC, as the game did not come to PC). The forecast also takes into consideration the effect of the "Battlenet release on PC and macro-level digital download trends."
No one is doubting that Destiny 2 is going to be a smash hit from a sales perspective, as the first game was a huge success on consoles. Given that the install base of the PC market is substantially larger than the console space, the upside could be substantial. This is the first time we're hearing about a specific unit sales projection for Destiny 2 on PC.
Destiny 2 for PC will only be available through Blizzard's Battle.net service.
Destiny 2 launches in September for PS4 and Xbox One, with a release to follow in October for PC. The game's beta kicks off next week on console and in August for PC.
It's once again that time of year: The 2017 Dota 2 International prize pool has just surpassed the 2016 prize pool, making it the biggest International prize ever--and thus the biggest in esports history.
The prize pool now totals $20,793,780 at the time of this writing, exceeding last year's mark by a bit over $20,000--although that amount will certainly increase in the coming days. There's still around a month left in the crowdfunding campaign; the International tournament actually begins on August 7 at Seattle's KeyArena, and runs through August 12.
To put this enormous sum in perspective, the 2017 Masters golf tournament had a comparably paltry $11 million pool, while the FIFA World Cup in 2018 will have a downright absurd $700 million prize pool. In terms of other esports competitions, the Rocket League Championship Series this year gave out $300,000 and the Halo 5: Guardians World Championship gave out $1 million.
Valve raises money by selling the Dota 2 Battlepass, a set of in-game items and quests that are exclusive to its owners. 25% of proceeds from Battlepass sales go to the prize pool, meaning that Valve has actually sold over $80 million worth of Battlepasses this year.
If you're interested in seeing how this year's prize pool stacks up against past ones, you can check out the excellent third-pary Dota 2 Prize Tracker. You can also see the full list of items included in the Battlepass over at Dota's official website.
[UPDATE]: Capcom has clarified that the PS4 and Xbox One version of Resident Evil: Revelations is releasing in Japan on August 31. The game does not yet have a release date for the US and Europe but will arrive this fall. The original story has been updated to reflect that.
The updated story follows.
Capcom has announced a Japanese release date for the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One version of Resident Evil: Revelations. The updated port will arrive in Japan on August 31, with a US and European release following sometime in fall.
Along with enhanced 1080p visuals, the upcoming port includes all of the DLC from the original game, making it the definitive version. Capcom showcased the improved visuals back in May with a pair of gameplay trailers, which follow the game's dual protagonists, Jill Valentine and Chris Redfield, as they solve puzzles and fend off the game's zombie-like Ooze monsters. You can see those videos here.
Resident Evil: Revelations originally debuted on 3DS back in 2012 and was subsequently ported to PS3, Xbox 360, Wii U, and PC in 2013. The game is set between the events of Resident Evil 4 and 5 and follows Jill and Chris as they explore a derelict cruise ship called the Queen Zenobia. It was followed by Resident Evil: Revelations 2, an episodic sequel that released for PS4, Xbox One, PC, PS3, Xbox 360, and PS Vita.
Resident Evil: Revelations will retail for the budget price of $20 when it launches for PS4 and Xbox One. The 3DS game was met with critical acclaim when it originally debuted; in our review of that version, we awarded the title 8.5/10 and called it "a successful blend of old-school Resident Evil horror and new-school action."
