The newest trailer for Thor: Ragnarok--which you can watch here--was revealed at Comic-Con on Saturday, and it was incredibly entertaining, especially the back-and-forth banter between Thor and Hulk. However, the new trailer gave fans a lot of insight into the film--which releases in November. Here's what we saw in the newest trailer.
Thor tosses his hammer at Hela, and she crushes it with ease. While we see this, Thor mentions he "lost" his hammer the day prior. This is the first--of many times during the trailer--that we catch Thor in his own lie, so he doesn't look bad in someone else's eyes.
It's quickly established that Thor has to fight Hulk in an arena, which we saw at the tail end of the first trailer.
What's interesting is that we'll get to see Bruce Banner in this movie as well. This is the first of many moments that make Thor: Ragnarok feel a whole lot more like a "buddy cop movie," rather than a superhero film.
Both Thor and Hulk are on the planet Sakaar, which should be familiar to comic readers, as that's where Hulk was stranded during the story Planet Hulk. The cinematic version of this well-known place is a bit different as it was described during a panel as surrounded by cosmic gateways. These red breaches in the sky could be just that.
Hela stands in Asgard, with the warriors protecting the realm fallen beside her. She's working with someone else, but during this particular shot, it's hard to tell who it is.
A closer shot of this mysterious man reveals it's actor Karl Urban, who plays Skurge. Many comic book readers will know him as Executioner, an Asgardian warrior who teamed up quite often with Enchantress (not the Suicide Squad one).
In Norse mythology, Ragnarok is the end of the world and the death of the gods. This trailer is filled with a lot of dream-like imagery of war and death, and it's unclear whether or not Asgard is actually destroyed during what the audience is shown above. Could this be a vision of the future or did Hela succeed in destroying the Asgard?
In order to defeat Hela, Thor is going to need a bit of help. The first person he recruits is Valkyrie, played by Tessa Thompson. She's a warrior that was working with Grandmaster on Sakaar--as we saw in the first trailer.
The next person Thor recruits is the Hulk. Actor Mark Ruffalo revealed during San Diego Comic-Con that Hulk is a bit smarter than before, with the vocabulary of a two-year-old.
Finally, Thor recruits his half-brother Loki. We saw Loki in the previous trailer, but he was working with Grandmaster.
Loki and Thor work together to shoot some henchmen surrounding a statue of Grandmaster. What's really cool about this scene is that the designs of these characters' designs look inspired by iconic Marvel artist Jack Kirby.
Hulk battles Fenris Wolf in one scene, which is a surprise, since the hound/son of Loki has not been mentioned before. This mythical beast has ties to Ragnarok in Norse mythology as well.
Thor: Ragnarok also pulls more from Planet Hulk that we previously thought, as we see a quick glimpse of what looks like to be Korg. In the comics, Korg was warbound to Hulk during their time as gladiators in the arena. They would each defend each other to the death as brothers in arms.
Hela unleashes an army of the undead.
Heimdall, the guardian of the rainbow bridge, makes a quick appearance. It's obvious that he's out of a job, since he's no longer wearing his signature armor.
Both Loki and Thor use the Bifrost to teleport somewhere. It's unclear where they are going, but we also get to see Hela hot on their tails. Could they be taking the battle to Earth?
The only thing that stands in the way between Thor's team and Asgard is Hela, and there are dead bodies along the path as well. This trailer really nails the fact that almost all hope is lost.
Thor's hammer may be gone, but towards the end of the trailer, he seems to be empowered by the same lightning we've seen strike his hammer.
Hulk leaps into battle against Surtur, the King of the Fire Giants. In the comics, this beast is considered one of the biggest threats to Asgard, and he is the ruler of the fire realm, Muspelheim.
Finally, in the closing moments of the trailer Thor and Hulk have a hilarious back-and-forth, reestablishing the dynamic between these two characters and how they try to one-up one another. Thor: Ragnarok comes to theaters on November 3.
